Hello.  I am your guide for this week’s rewatch of Boys Over Flowers.  I am not a writer or a recapper.  I am a fan, and  I don’t feel guilty for loving this drama.

I see my role as starting out the week’s conversation.  Please feel free to add your own thoughts.  Include your pictures, videos, behind-the-scenes, fun facts, etc.

EPISODE 8 RECAP   by Javabeans (cr. Dramabeans)

After a moment, Jan-di pushes away from Jun-pyo’s hug and says, dully, “I’m sorry.” Jun-pyo takes a moment to let this sink in, then: “Do you understand what I’m doing? The Almighty Gu Jun-pyo is pleading with you.”

Jan-di answers that she can’t help it. He wonders, “How did I come to like someone like you?” as though wishing he didn’t. He tells her she just threw away her last chance, because from tomorrow on, she won’t get any more. Jan-di returns, “That’s what I want.”

He leaves. Jan-di repeats to herself, not very convincingly, “I won’t regret it. I won’t ever regret it.”

Jan-di: “Wake up. Why won’t you wake up? I have so much to say to you, to fight with you about, to explain to you. What’s wrong?”

They explain that Jun-pyo had been depressed all day. The accident occurred after he rushed out saying he had to apologize to Jan-di. Starting to sob in earnest, Jan-di pleads:

Jan-di: “I’m the one who should apologize. Gu Jun-pyo, I wronged you. I lied to you. When you left after asking me to say those words, I regretted it. Gu Jun-pyo, wake up! Now I think I can tell you those words you wanted to hear, but how can I when you’re like this? Wake up!”

Happy to oblige, he does. His eyes pop open and he asks, grinning, “For real?”

Next, they watch a movie in the car at Jun-pyo’s private drive-in theater, where the pressure of being alone starts getting to both of them. Neither can look at the other; Jan-di squirms in embarrassment, while Jun-pyo tries to muster up the courage to make the first move. Their internal monologues are pretty hilarious, particularly with the normally-so-authoritative Jun-pyo trying to psych himself up:

Jun-pyo: “Gu Jun-pyo. Now’s the moment. Turn to her.”
Jan-di: “No! Don’t look at me. Gu Jun-pyo, if you turn toward me, you’re so dead.”
Jun-pyo: “Damn, I can’t do it! I’ll just have some popcorn.”

Their hands accidentally meet as they both reach for popcorn, and Jun-pyo takes that as his signal to make his move. He leans in closer, their hearts start to race, Jan-di closes her eyes in anticipation…

…and then her phone rings. Immediately, Jun-pyo retreats and the moment is broken.

...

She protests when Jun-pyo makes the rather unorthodox request that they put him up for the night, but she’s outnumbered: everyone else jumps to accommodate him.

It’s a little silly to show the five of them all settling in for the night in the same room, although I suppose they kind of explain it when Jan-di’s brother offers to share his room with Jun-pyo and his mother balks at that. (Perhaps they all want a piece of the Jun-pyo love? Can’t say I don’t understand.)

Although this is a far cry from Jun-pyo’s palatial estate — he laughs that his bathrooms are bigger than their bedroom — Jun-pyo is oddly enjoying himself.

While everyone else sleeps, he tells Jan-di, “I came without really planning anything, but this is a ton of fun.” He jokes about the sleeping arrangement, but muses, “Still, with everyone sleeping under the same blanket, doesn’t it seem like a family?”

Now,  my thoughts on episode 8:

--We start off with Jun-pyo pleading with Jan-di.  It’s a bit humbling for him.  I, too, wonder why he likes someone like Jan-di.  He is following his heart and this is where it leads him.

tumblr_osovs7r5vz1w2zf0ho1_540.png

--I guess I knew that Jan-di wasn’t going to be expelled from school, but I love that Jun-pyo worked it out by turning the lights out for the finish of the swimming race.

tumblr_osovs7r5vz1w2zf0ho2_540.png

--So Jan-di gets her dream: a date with Ji-hoo.  It all goes along in a very boring way (to me), but when they end up at Namsan, she seems to be fondly remembering her night with Jun-pyo.  I liked reliving the details of the coffee, the cable car, etc.  We also get to see what GJP did with the pen!

Spoiler

tumblr_osovs7r5vz1w2zf0ho3_540.png

tumblr_osovs7r5vz1w2zf0ho4_540.png

--Hilariously jealous, Jun-pyo can’t contain his curiosity and is following after them on their date.  Ji-hoo is aware of this and he also knows GJP still likes Jan-di, but maybe he doesn’t know how Jan-di feels.  By the end of the date, I think both Ji-hoo and Jan-di have figured it out.

--I liked JH repeating GJP’s mantra:

Spoiler

tumblr_osovs7r5vz1w2zf0ho6_540.png

--I’m including this scene of GJP throwing darts (as in episode 1) because I remember thinking, “He’s throwing with his left hand!”  We all know by now that LMH can do things with both hands, right hand for some things, left hand for others, and he kicks with his left foot.  (I wanted to include the behind-the-scenes from the darts, but I couldn’t find it.  It shows him missing all the darts!    If anyone can find it and post it, that would be great!)

Spoiler

tumblr_osovs7r5vz1w2zf0ho9_540.png

--Ji-hoo’s get-them-together strategy gets pretty crazy with his smack talk at the hockey rink.  I can’t believe what he is saying.  I also can’t believe that friends can have such violent fights.  (There is too much hitting in k-drama for my taste.)

Spoiler

tumblr_osovyz4Gcc1w2zf0ho2_540.png

--This roller coaster of a story takes us to another crazy scene with GJP unconscious in a hospital bed.  Will you say you like him, Jan-di?  I’ll admit I thought it was funny, but man, we're in for a bumpy ride!

Spoiler

--Jun-pyo’s own date with Jan-di:

Spoiler

tumblr_osovyz4Gcc1w2zf0ho5_540.png

tumblr_osovyz4Gcc1w2zf0ho6_540.png

--My favorite part is Jun-pyo showing up at Jan-di’s house and the laughs that follow.  Yes, her family is acting nuts—Jun-pyo doesn’t mind—but there is a lot of poignancy here.

The Almighty Gu Jun-pyo, he who seems to be blessed with everything, is discovering the joys of a happy family.

Perhaps this is the reason he keeps returning to Jan-di.

BOYS OVER FLOWERS- EPISODE EIGHT

Loved the mature Jun Pyo who wasn't prepared to ditch his best friend for a girl. Still, it’s hilarious how his jealousy made him stalk Ji Hoo and Jandi, who were on a date. Although they liked each other enough they found the second half of their date rather unfulfilling and awkward. Is it by coincidence that Ji Hoo brought her to the same place where she had her first date with Jun Pyo?  It’s adorable how he and Jandi both couldn’t stop reminiscing their good times together, in the past. And OMG, Jandi spotted what Jun Pyo scribbled on the wall of the cable car.

Jun Pyo:heart: Jandi.. our first night together.

It’s funny how he made it impossible for her to marry anyone else.

After their date, Ji Hoo takes Jandi to his house. Outside, frustrated and jealous Jun Pyo is torturing himself, wondering what they’re up to:lol:

I don’t think the hockey match and the bloody fight were necessary to convince Jun Pyo’s feelings for Jandi. However, I wouldn’t mind a flaw as long as I get to watch the sweaty and hot- blooded Jun Pyo, engaged in one of the greatest and dangerous games on ice. He loves and respects Jandi so much that he could be ruthless to anyone who insults her.

JP:    If you hurt Geum Jandi, I’ll kill you regardless you’re my friend. Got it?!

JH:    You should have said it from the start. See, you can’t let go of Geum Jandi, right?

Loved how the F4s tricked Jandi into revealing her true feelings for Jun Pyo. Every time I watch this scene I laugh so hard. Jandi rushes to the hospital, prepared for the worst, Yi Jung and Ji Hoo are standing around , on top of that the sad song is being played, unconscious Jun Pyo is lying in bed and Woo Bin is weeping.

Get up, Gu Jun Pyo, get up. Guem Jandi is here, get up you rascal!

Jandi is holding Jun Pyo’s hand, crying and begging for him to wake up:

JD:  I have a lot to tell you, I have a lot of things to fight with you about and I have a lot of things to teach you too, what are you? I should be the one to apologize. Gu Jun Pyo I’m sorry. I lied to you. When you asked me to say that word one time for you…. I regretted it after I sent you away. Gu Jun Pyo get up. I think I can tell you the words that you wanted to hear now, so how can you be lying like this?

Jun Pyo’s eyes pop open and he’s beaming with pleasure; it’s a prank:lol:

Really

Jun Pyo is teasing Jandi:

Tell me quickly what you were about to say a little while ago, the words that I wanted to hear.

And LOLs all round:lol:

cr KoreaNice

I’m happy that the F4s are back together again; I feel sorry for Ji Hoo though, because he’s lonelier than Jun Pyo himself and he doesn’t even have a family.

The way Jun Pyo acted when Jandi was ridiculed at the restaurant, touched my heart and he was gracious enough to send the same delicacies they had, to her family. The almost kiss in the car was hilarious:

Why is it so hot? If I take my jacket off saying that it’s hot, she’ll probably go berserk, right? Gu Jun Pyo, now it’s the time.

And their hearts start pounding. Just when Jun Pyo leans in to kiss and Jandi closes her eyes in anticipation, her phone goes off.

Darn it. Her family is stalking them:lol:

Jandi starts avoiding Jun Pyo on the following day; perhaps she felt the huge inequality between the two of them after the incident at the restaurant. Now it’s up to Jun Pyo to get close to her. He shows up at her house late in the night.

Abeonim, emoeonim, please let me sleep here for one night.

Loved how the episode ended with Jun Pyo getting a feel of the warmth of a family:)

My comments on episode 8

At the swimming competition, GJP realizes that regardless of the outcome and assuming Jandi loved JiHoo, that whether or not they attend school does not make a difference.  I say that because his mood is subdued from the beginning of the race.  I love the friendship scene with GJP, Yi Jeong and Woo Bin caring enough for their friend to pull him out of his doldrum.  I hate Jandi's money grubbing family, not caring who she dates as long as he is wealthy.  It seems they need to learn a lesson that money does not buy happiness--just look at GJP's family.    I'm glad to see Jandi looking glum during the Namsam cable car ride.  I almost feel sorry for Ji Hoo when Jandi pulls aways from his kiss.  I guess this is where Jandi realizes that she has chosen GJP.  I guess I'm still on the fence whether she actually has chosen GJP by her actions.  she's never verbalized what she likes about GJP, has she?  She's definitely verbalized what she hates about him.

One of the funny comments from Viki was someone noticing that the men sent to escort Jandi to the golf course noticed that one of them nibbled on a leaf so as not to be caught by Jandi.  The golf "date" is cute although I can't imagine playing golf with snow on the ground; it's challenging enough when it's dry!  Maybe GJP's thoughtfulness in sending sashimi to Jandi's family is one of things she likes about GJP.  I also love the almost kiss scene in the drive in ruined by Jandi's family LOL.  And finally, we see Jandi smile when GJP sends her the text messages not to eat the sashimi.

The slumber party at the Geum's is just so cute especially with GJP sandwiched between Jandi's father and brother.  It's kinda sad in the sense that one of few times in his life that he has experienced family life.

Hi All!  Long time no post. :)

I was wondering if anyone knows if we ever got an English translation of this interview LMH did back in 2015 for Section TV?    It just seems so hilarious! and I'm dying to know what they talked about, haha.    I'm all caught up on posts but if I've missed it on a previous page, I do apologize.  If you would be so kind as to post a link to it, I'd be grateful.

Thanks!  :)

In episode 8, when I first saw BOF, I knew nothing about the anime or who the lead actor was supposed to be. I thought it was Ji Hoo so at the hospital, I really believed that GJP died and JD would feel bad and would be estranged from Ji Hoo until she can finally forgive herself in the future and be together with him again and that would be the last of GJP so I was just as surprised as Jan Di when he opened his eyes.

One can see that GJP, is extreme in what he does, just no in between or wishy washy, he loves with a passion, get uncontrollably angry or can be very cold and hard. He is just very passionate. One thing great about GJP is that he may tease JD on her station in life but he never looked down on her or her wacky family. It was funny when the mom started tearing food with her hands and passing it to him, and he gagged. I can understand his reaction, yet he tried to eat it and not show his superiority or upper class upbringing, he tried his best to blend in and be part of her family. Jan Di in fact felt a bit embarrassed, having seen how he lives and knowing that it was something different and strange for him and below his standards. He suffered having the father and brother go all over him on the mattress without complaining. Knowing that he would fire maids for the least mistakes, he was extremely tolerant with her family and wanted to please them. He gamely wore the father's clothes when it was too short and he looked ridiculous in it but wore it with a flair like a model. That was hilarious and LMH was wonderful in that scene. So kooky. The making kimchi scene was good too, he joined in the fun totally being a son-in-law.

When she took the leftovers and was insulted by the trio's boyfriends, he made them apologize to her. Not once did he berate her for embarrassing him by taking leftovers. She knew it was not the thing to do so she quietly tried to do it. Instead he realized that she wanted to share with her family so he had the sushi sent to her home and explained it to her in a text so that she would not yell at him. How could she when he was so thoughtful towards her family. That he never once looked down on her and protected her from insults shows the positive effect Jan Di has on him. To him, she is always his equal. The caring and loving boyfriend. He calls himself the great GJP, he knows his power but he totally respects her as a person. That is his charm.

Question, when Jan Di looked at Seo Hyun picture in Ji Hoo's home and she said she could let go of her first love, who was she thinking of? Ji Hoo or GJP???

I think Ji-hoo's taunts were too much, but then I remind myself that this is a drama.  Even so, I didn't think long-time friends would act this way--both Ji-hoo and Jun-pyo.  Amazingly, they are able to work right past their tensions and be friends again.  We see GJP's stubbornness and passion AND hot body in action.

Thanks for sharing the clip!  I think that's the one, though I remembered seeing the board.

I had to laugh ... Jan-di has definitely said that she hates GJP.  Perhaps she thinks there is no point in liking him because there's no real chance of them being together.  Jun-pyo is working on his pride, and Jan-di is working on her prejudice.  She needs to see GJP as an individual and not just as a chaebol heir.

I haven't yet found a translation.  They both seem to be having so much fun.  The reporter, Park Seul-gi, later joked that she thought they had made a connection, but then he started dating Suzy.    She did a great job as the MC at his 2016 Talk Concert.

I feel the same way.  Very well said.  Jun-pyo is gracious and thoughtful, which is not his usual self.  Is he changing?

I think Jan-di's first love is Ji-hoo.

I'm really enjoying all the DMZ photos!  When the "Here" photobook was announced, it was promoted as Lee Min-ho in his natural, everday life, but I think we are seeing that much more so in the DMZ behind-the-scenes.  So much fun!  I really hope to see him in a variety show after his service.

Although I love seeing new pictures every day, I'm going to stick my neck out and give an unpopular opinion:  I think that it would be nice if uri Minho could go back and forth to Suseo without having to face the fans.  He is soooo patient and charming (like our current GJP), but maybe he would like a break.

Keep the BOF episode 8 comments coming!  :)

***Also, thanks for sharing this. I remember he created an online fundraising platform some years back to encourage his fans to participate in donations and volunteering works. As far as I remember such were shortage of water, safety of children and protection of animal. LMH has been giving importance of sharing ever since. Many of his fans not only in Korea but also in other Asian countries like China and Hong Kong have made donations to various charitable organizations including UNICEF. What's NICE is he received a lot of support and love from his fans. So many blessings are coming his way & still counting.....I guess he wants to reciprocate somehow. He's also promoting the pleasures of sharing among his fans.  LMH has his own style of doing all these.....
