‘Goryeo Khitan War’ A flood of petitions criticizing historical distortions

 

 

Viewer protests are pouring in regarding the distortion of history in the KBS 2TV historical drama ‘Goryeo Khitan War’.

 

As of the 24th, two petitions for the Goryeo-Khitan War posted on the KBS Viewer Center had received 1,000 signatures. ‘This is a petition to change the development of the Goryeo Khitan War drama to the original story’ and ‘This is a petition for the completeness of the Goryeo Khitan War’. If more than 1,000 people agree to a viewer petition, the person in charge must leave a response.

One viewer said, “It’s a traditional historical drama that came out a long time ago, but the drama is going to the grave along with the warrior general ‘Yang-gyu’ (Ji Seung-hyun),” and “It’s the quality of the early 2000s.” It's so embarrassing because it's on Netflix and the whole world will see it. “For the sake of preserving the reputation of Korean historical dramas, I hope they sign a contract with the original writer and see it through to the end,” he wrote.

 

Another viewer said, “It was a masterpiece at the beginning of the drama, just before the Second Yuyao War or at the beginning of the war, and a masterpiece until the end of the Second Yuyao War,” but expressed, “I am so frustrated and sad to see that it has turned into a poor work after episode 17.” In addition, they demanded the replacement of the scriptwriter, cancellation of the show for the sake of perfection, and cancellation of the writer award at the ‘2023 KBS Drama Awards’.

 

This drama is the story of the 8th king of Goryeo, ‘Hyeonjong’ (Kim Dong-jun), who led the war against the Khitan to victory, and his political teacher and commander-in-chief of the Goryeo army, ‘Gang Gam-chan’ (Choi Su-jong). Written by Taejong Lee Bang-won (2021-2022) and Lee Jeong-woo. In episodes 17 and 18, a different development from the original story followed, depicting the royal prince, ‘Hyeonjong’ (Kim Dong-hyun), as ‘Geumjjok’. Gil Seung-soo, the author of the original work, said, “They are making a fool out of the person who can be considered the most famous soldier in Korean history.” He added, “The screenplay should be written with sufficient knowledge of historical facts and consultation, but the script writer is deliberately trying to write his own work while avoiding the original work.” I see something.
