I saw Queer as Folk when it was on the air.  I actually liked the very end.  Was pretty pleased that they went the realistic route, for Justin's sake especially.  I want him to have the amazing art career he deserves!  You never know what could happen in the future.  Maybe in a few years Brian will open an office in New York specifically to be closer to Justin, and they can live a more realistic happily ever after.  But I felt pretty weirded out by the part leading up to that, when it all felt too much like a fantasy and Brian doing a complete 180 just because he was able to verbalize the love he had already admitted to to Michael and Debbie (not in so many words, of course) as far back as maybe season 2.  And Justin was too young to get married and move out to the country, however much he was drawn to Michael and Ben's nesting. 

I put "BL" and "gay themed" in two completely different categories in my head.  One is realistic, and geared more toward gay people or straight allies who want to see realism.  The other was created for straight girls, who enjoy watching love stories in which both parties are sexually attractive to them, but gay men can get in on the fun, too, if willing to overlook the more ridiculous aspects.  If they would just tone down on any and all force/rape, I think BL can be a mostly positive influence.  Sure, it has bred weird fans who ship straight men together and understand very little about the real obstacles gay men face, but it does normalize love between gay men.  And often in a way that isn't done as often in gay media. . . emphasizing love more than sex, which is a thing that people really need to see.  Better to have girls on the street saying, "aww, so cute" than "eww, gross" when they see a real gay couple.  It's a first step.  But I'm not surprised that Asian BL and Asian/Western gay-themed content have very different demographics that don't completely overlap.

Haven't been on this site since LoveSick and have been lurking in the shadows reading all you wonderful people's comments. Such great insight and calmness (amidst all the fangirl/boy-ing). I just logged in now to say this was a great comment and so true.... baby steps.....

How can an episode have so much and yet not enough... ?!!! I'm satisfied and yet I want more. I don't understand a single thing and yet I grasped so much... Ugh!!!!! As Lazy said just use the butter already and jump each other. The tension is driving me crazy!!! What am I going to do when I finally get the subs? Lose my mind completely?

Btw I totally agree Pond was the VIP here and jealous Ae was interesting to watch but how much manhandling can Pete take in one episode? He was literally dragged everywhere by Ae. 

I think Can was storing up that smash to the face. It was beautifully delivered and a far cry from his mock ones he was shelling out in his room. But what the heck was he trying to do at the house? Hex Tin? Or making an accidental love potion? Have any of you ever seen Were the World Mine? I immediately thought of that scene when Tim makes the flower.

Anyway, I'm going to go calm down by taking Lazy's advice and jumping Dee. Night. I'm way to hyped and boy does he reap the benefits.

I don't know what Tin was doing in front of his mirror but maybe he is a softie who tried to hardened himself in front of that mirror. I guess I'll know soon with the subs.

 

Ae doesn't have any clue if he is gay or bi or straight falling just " for Pete ". Now, I think Ae is gay, he had never been attracted by a girl before but it shows he is still confused by saying that to Pete. Even if he wanted to reassure ( maybe ) pete at the same time? It's probably why Pete will be cautious about Ae and Champoo in the future... Ae is ambigous,  he is possessive of Pete ( a bit too much ) , he told he likes pete more than a friend,  he seemed obssessed with Pete sexually... But still in his mind, he thinks his default programm is being straight....  

 

I love how proctecting Tin is about Pete.  That's so great. He went straight to ask what was about Tin and Ae ...  I think Tin is a softy in desguise. 

 

As for QAF, I didn't really like the US version. Qaf US is an adaptation of the UK original version, and they strayed too far away from the original. And I loved the original too much to like what they did with the US version. I didn't see the final season of qaf US, just read what happened. I was not surprised by the ending;; That why I quit following the qaf US mid season 4.  

 

You should take a look to Qaf uk season 1 and 2. The one and only for me.

Pete's father and mother divorced when Pete was young because his father liked to control Pete's mother. When he learned that Pete is gay, he tried to separate Pete and Ae. Pete's father bribed Ae by trying to give him 3 million baht (the one who told Pete's father about their relationship was Pete's childhood friend, Dayli, we saw her on the trailer).

Then trump came back again and intend to rape pete, fortunately before it happens Ae and his friends came to save Pete. Seeing Pete's clothes that already open made Ae angry and beat Trump until he almost dead. This causes big problems in which Ae almost quit college and have to enter prison. Because Pete didn't want something bad happen to Ae, Pete finally asked for his father's help and agree to go with his father to Germany and study there for 3 years. Yes they separated for three years T_T. Pete told Ae not to wait for him and open his heart to others. But in the end love wins, when pete returned to Thailand Ae welcomed him with a bouquet of red flowers (at this stage Ae had already graduated from college, had worked and he went to Pete's house every year to bring flowers and gifts to Pete's mother, he considered her as his own mother and she also considered Ae as his other son)

The end.

But I read somewhere that there's another special novel that tells the story after Pete came back.

i read again, curiosity kills the cat, I still hate the ending, it's crappy , so trump come back Ae almost killed him , then pete's father save the day with a threat ,  and 3 years after everything is ok and nothing changed...  What a crappy ending with full of angst drama and a unrealistic happy ending. A lot of things change in 3 years in people life, even people changes...

I agree. I don't understand why some dramas/novels make it seem like these GROWN AS& people don't have autonomy or a say in their lives. I mean I understand the whole respecting your parents bull, I am Hispanic after all and we are taught to listen and follow what our elders say, however, we are also encouraged to think for ourselves and do what we think it's best for us, but in Thai Dramas/novels it always seems like these people don't know how to stand their ground. Yes mom and dad are important, but what about your own life/heart? Also a real father would have made sure Trump was in prison or unable to pee on his own

Don't let me start about the abusing father who will "help " Ae to not go to jail in the only condition that Pete has to go with the abusing and controlling father for 3 years.  And what the hell? trump has already a criminal record... If he went to attack pete ( this authors seems to like the rape thing ) I'm sure Ae would have maybe some damage to pay but not the full go to prison , poor trump is the victim. 

 

Plus the fact the " father " whatever he is lawyer, mega rich, etc can save Ae from jail because of the power he has. God it's super crappy and disgusting. 

 

Pete and Ae are not highschoolers, they are young adults... God I love sotus because they were in college but they thought and acted like people who are in college and not in highschool anymore.

 

I'm so pissed at that supposed happy ending. Like I said , a year apart , I would have compromised and swallow the pill. But 3 years...

 

and I hate drama just for the sake of drama .

You should take a look to Qaf uk season 1 and 2. The one and only for me.

Preach!! I also am from this rare species that likes QAF UK more than QAF US Though to be fair, it's difficult to compare a 10 episodes series with one that has more than 80. It's almost impossible to maintain quality over such a long time and QAF US got lost more than once on the way imho. But I liked the ending. I mean, come on, Justin was way too young for the life Brian offered him and even that life was like a 180° turn for Brian that had been mostly triggered by fear. Never a good thing to make plans out of fear.

 

But well I'm a sucker for Stuart and Vince anyway  And the best thing is, you can choose whatever ending you like (cause I'm not listenning to Russell T. Davies ). 

 

As for the episode, as I always wait for subs, I just watched the scene edited by Lazy Subber. And...damn. Why Ae, why????? Everything was going so well!! Why did he say THAT?? The most feared trope in BL world after the "who's uke/seme" horrendous question 

 

 No, like seriously, why? Especially in LBC, it doesn't make ANY sense. Ae had never been attracted to anyone before Pete BOYS OR GIRLS. He's never been into porn, has bever even thought about his sexuality apparently (which I find a bit unrealistic by the way but that's a matter for another day).  Well this is the longest it's taken to sub an episode...I've recently seen the Thai -Mandarin - English sub. Can't wait to do a comparison of the three translations...I actually like the translation of the the scene above from Man to Eng..it's a bit more reassuring. And the  Pond/Ae convo in the room with the computer et.al...and breakfast has me in tears..LMAO..so it will be interesting to see if the Thai - Eng has the same cut...

So about the spoiler on the ending...

 

It's utter *crap* obviously. First I never understood/accepted that Pete refuses to press charges against Trump. It is a bad, bad signal to sent to the victims of homophobic attacks. But if it turns into a rape attempt now...

 

Let's be honest, BL have a big, BIG issue with rapes, harrassment and consent to sex in general. It's what made me drop out on numerous shows or watch them with less interest (MIR, Addicted, TWM, etc). So no, it's not okay to have sex with a drunk person, try to grab their richard simmons in their sleep ( My Tee), or not pressing charges after rape/rape attemps. It is a CRIME, that needs to be judged and punished accordingly. I like BL shows obviously but God they send very alarming messages in this aspect

 I really really hope the plot (which doesn't seem great in the novel from what I've heard so far anyway) will be changed and that * fu c k ing* Trump will end up in jail if he tries to rape Pete. Same goes with those who attacked Tar by the way!

 

As for the role of parents, we have to remember it is an asian show. The respect due to your parents is still extremely strong in a lot of Asian countries and yes sometimes turns to submission. In some societies, parents think they have a right to rule their children's lives, even when they are adults, because their actions can reflect badly on the family reputation. I'm getting some vibes of My husband's lover now.

Ae did press the "enter" key before he closed the lid on the lap top, so that must have brought up some very interesting results. I think that's what got Pond's attention when he opened it up. Remember the music they played at the time. It's the same as when Pond plays his porn videos.
