Haha. Why dont try to have triplets? The older the women age is the bigger chance to have multiple pregnancy. Haha. Yeah.. I remember when he received an award for QSD he said in his speech about how he had some qualms with the writers and express his disappointment with the ending they gave for his character....hearing that made me worried that some people might find him rude but at the same time I'm amazed on how he didn't hesitate to voice out his opinion lol. Then in one of his previous movies he was asked about what can he say on having people say that they are the perfect couple and he was like "Shouldn't you be asking those people who said that?" lol And he never hesitate to said that he was sad that people don't recognize him on the street nowadays and that he will be happy if they will. And when asked about the dating rumors between him and Jang Nara, he was like "That's ridiculous" He seems pretty frank. 5

Popular Post etherealk408
We are already at Page 115 ! the pages really flew after pg100 celebration!! lol i love our Gummers passion and dedication for Gum Couple and this thread..keep going guys! I see some pervie talks before me I'm afraid I might be cutting the flow a bit, but because I still wanna share this now I'll just do it..I hope it's okay. Because I kept seeing everybody wants to know how NamGil thinks and just interested to understand more about him, and because I already did translations for articles and fan account for AhJoong the other day,I thought it's only fair for me to bring some LOONG translations on KNG as well^^ I translated 3 NamGil interview articles from 2 different period of time, one was from December 2016 when NamGil was promoting the movie 'Pandora', and two more from April of this year during promotion of 'One Day', right before he started working on LUTYN. Just like KAJ's interview for LUTYN, the two interviews for 'One Day' was also a round-table interview,so you will see similar contents but in different wordings, or extra added contents here and there. Btw, I just wanna say that he's so HUMBLE when it comes to his outstanding talents as an actor and he's a really tough critic on himself. I hope by reading this our Gummers will get to understand a bit more of NamGil and where he is standing at right now in terms of his life as an actor,as well as his thoughts on things like popularity. While he is a straightforward man, don't forget that he is also a bit of a jokester, and not everything he says are necessarily to be taken at face value. I think one of the most interesting Q & A should be on his views on Marriage, hopefully you guys won't miss it! Article #1 Kim Nam Gil, " It's Only My Job that's An Actor, I Go To Public Bathhouses and Scrubbed Dirt" [December 2nd, 2016] He is someone unique. Contrary to his sharp good looks, the way he speaks is like a good-natured young man from the countryside. But the moment the conversation turned into movie talks, he changed into someone very passionate. His passion for the movie 'Pandora' is even more defined. Kim NamGil, who received both public popularity and criticial acclaim for his acting performances in The Pirates, as well as The Shameless has taken on the role of 'JaeHyuk', a man who seems immature but is full of humane appeal and reliableness in the movie 'Pandora'.Pandora is a movie about a nuclear outbreak that threatens the Korean Peninsula following the largest earhtquake that happened without warning. Kim NamGil whom we met recently at a cafe in Samcheongdong opened the box on the story of Pandora. The side of the Kim NamGil we saw looked more haggard than the one in the movie. He says," I purposely gained weight for the movie. A lot of my image is towards being either a cold city guy, or a bad guy. JaeHyuk is easy-going and an immature second son so I thought it might have been awkward for viewers to accept that image of a slim guy." In the movie "JaeHyuk" was exposed to radioactive material and appeared to be more swollen. Kim NamGil says," I gained weight gradually. When we shot the last scene I didn't eat for about two days. I thought I will appear more haggard but instead towards the end I was losing my strength and my body was swollen." Kim NamGil acted the side of JaeHyuk suffering from the radioactive materials so vividly. When told about how it made even people who were watching suffered in the feelings, Kim NamGil says,"We lowered the "pain" from the actual level of suffering. What we showed was bleeding or vomiting, fallen skin and that was the most basic. The Director showed us source materials of what actually happened when the body is contaminated with radioactive materials and when the skin was broken and could not be regenerated but I could barely watch it. You could even die instantly upon contamination. The side of an actual person receiving those damage was so horrible, we turned the level a lot lower." Before shooting there was a necessity for meetings. "The producers were showing on the whiteboard about how there's a reactor here, what's there etc but all the actors were just sitting there with an empty expression," he laughs. "I studied power plants and did structural study with the Director and Jung JinYoung Sunbaenim. I thought that shouldn't we know at least this much? and explained it to the other actors. Because we are 'external contractors' so in reality we would only know about certain parts while 'working'. So while acting when we are told "do this here" all the actors understood and just went straight ahead to do what we're supposed to." "This movie is of the "disaster" genre and the emotional acting was not working. It was supposed to be very expressive while creating all this havoc but I feel like I couldn't do it as good as the other Sunbaenims did. I was supposed to be using Gyeongsang-do satoori(dialect) but that became the restriction in fully expressing the emotions. Because I was using Satoori while using my body (to perform action scenes) I kept moving my head and got reprimanded (laughs). If only there was more time, I would've sounded fully like a Gyeongsang-do person...but of course I know that's just my greed." Kim NamGil who is seeking the public for a long time after his last appearance in May last year. "The public thinks of that period where after I shoot movies or do broadcast as an absent period. I wasn't like that when I was younger, but now I think there's a necessity to be erased from memory." He continues,"I'm happy just to be able to quietly shoot a movie and do interviews like this. Sometimes when you just put a lot of things down there are times when you are forgotten, and after that there are times when you meet a very good project. Compared to before, I think I feel lesser pressure or pride to be constantly remembered by the public now." "I think it's important for me to have a feel like a civilian (non-celebrity) person. For an actor, being an "Actor" is just a job. I personally think the reason why a lot of actors who got popular and are doing well, but are no longer improving in terms of their acting is because they are not "melted" within the public anymore. Once your face is well-known it could get uncomfortable to be recognized, because of the pressure that comes from having to dress well just to go out and having your whole entire being judged just based on one single photo, I experienced that and it made me wanted to just hide in the basement. But now, I even visit public bathhouses." "I have the Ahjussis there scrubbing the dead skins off my body and I just mix myself within the people. It's because these are the experiences that becomes your foundation. Actually, even talking like this fears me a bit and makes me feel uncomfortable. It's because I'm not "that" way, but people might be looking at from a certain point of view because of this.. I still have no idea what kind of acting I'm supposed to be doing, but I want to keep on giving my best in projects that I want to do." ========= Article #2 'One Day' Actor Kim NamGil, whom the Film Industry keep Discovering [April 4th, 2017] Kim NamGil, who received critical-acclaim at Cannes Film Festival with "The Shameless", and validated his Box-Office powers through Pandora. He, who received love through a rough image, has returned. It was a special day when we met him, he who is warm and deep beneath his surface, just like his character in the movie. If you say the actor Kim NamGil, the image that appears in one's mind would be a "rough guy". It wouldn't be wrong to guess that it's because of the hard masculinity he projected in the works which raised his name to stardom such as SQD, BG,The Pirates, The Shameless and Pandora. But through "One Day", that Kim NamGil greets the audience with a very different side. In the movie, he appeared as KangSoo, a section chief at an insurance company who although was bright by nature and thoughtful, but felt into bereavement after the despair of losing his wife two months before. The movie endlessly asked its audience, who suffers more between the person left behind by his beloved, and the person who has to leave a beloved person behind? Kim NamGil whom we met before the movie was premiered answered, " I think it's no different than asking whether the hen or the egg came first but as humans, the lost of a loved one is something that everybody has to face, and for that I think it is a question worthy of consideration." He revealed, "I participated in this film with the hope to deliver a positive message to those who have lost a loved one and wallowed in self-pity like KangSoo." "At first, I had no confidence to act it and I declined the offer but reading the scenario again a few months later I felt the pain and was really sad. I hope the audience will be able to experience the pain and sadness I experienced, as well as the emotions of healing." -What is your standard when choosing projects. In the past, I put emphasis on the character but now I think that the important thing is the strength of the story, a project that makes you ponders about diversity, as well as a script t that I can be proud of while my audience is able to relate to it. For example in "One Day" , the questions regarding death with dignity, right now the public opinion over that debate is very strained but isn't it difficult to exactly say which side has the correct answer? So recently my interest are going towards projects that don't necessarily needs to tell a message but instead through opening up possibilities gives you a chance to slowly consider and think about matters. - Have you ever give death a serious thought? By nature I'm more of positive person so I don't think pessimistically, but recently as my health worsens and I received scares a few time the thoughts of "it's so tough to live" did enter my head. Being the oldest son, due to the responsibility I hold as head of the family I try my best not to think that way, but if the situation was my health worsening continuedly like Domino, I did have some extreme thoughts about the difficulties of living as an actor. If it was the opposite of this film, and if I was sick and my condition worsens I don't think I would favour the prolongation of life. It will be hard to watch the people around me suffering for my sake, and it would be better to have my life ended when I'm still not at the worst sight of myself. But I watch a foreign movie where a person who wanted death by dignity but the moment the medication was in their mouth, they rise up and say" you're wishing I'm dead so soon?" (laughs) - Among the character you have acted, who do you think is the most similar to your real life persona. Because I played a lot of rough, dark characters in the past, a lot of people seems to believe that's my real personality too. The people who have watched me closely says the character I played in The Pirates, 'Jang SaJung' shares a lot of similar traits with the usual me. But personally I think that One Day's KangSoo resembles me the most. And for that reason I was able to comfortably act KangSoo out. - Between the bad guy character you acted in "Bad Guy' and the pure-hearted man you acted as in this project, which one is the real you closer to? There was a time when I lived like a bad guy, and there was also a time where like KangSoo I live with a pure heart. I think it differs on the situation and who the opposite party is. What's clear is that there is a bad guy that lives within me, and I also have a pure side to me. As well as my idiotic sides. Hahaha. - I heard that the reason you started acting was because you fell in love(with acting) while watching a play while in High School. What play was it? It was one of Shakespeare's Four Great Tragedies, "King Lear". I thought King Lear's macho side was really cool. And the dialogues feels somewhat like they're talking to me. As I watched,I thought I wanted to be someone acting on that stage who could exchange feelings with the watching audience. - After performing on the stage in theater, what was the special reason that you debuted through MBC Talent Audition. It was on the advice of my stage actor Seniors that I auditioned. At the time all the successful Sunbaenims originated from the Talent Audition. Especially because MBC Drama was really on a high at the time, I thought by passing the audition, a broader path will be opened. But that season never came. At the time newcomers who came from upcoming big agencies were cast in the major roles, while those originating from the talent audition had to start from very small roles. But rather than being disheartened because of the size of my roles, I had it difficult because I couldn't fix my habits from the time I was doing theater. It wasn't easy for me to adapt to the environment of the tv station. Every time I was in front of the camera, getting scolded was becoming a habit. At the time, there were many moments where I had doubts and wondered if I really had the quality to be an actor. - Did those moments become a "medicine" for your acting life? It helped a lot. I'm more of the type to not get too hung up about popularity or care too much about it. I suddenly received a lot of love through the character 'Bidam' in GSD and thanks to that I felt with my own skin what it's like to be popular, but the period wasn't too long. It made me realize that you have to let go of a lot of things when you go up suddenly and that it's more important to go down gracefully. For more than 10 years now I've been called the "Blue Chip of Chungmoro" (T/N: a solid, dependable actor acknowledged by both the public and his peers, capable of bringing commercial and critical success in the movie industry) but I just feel that it's such a thankful thing for an actor like me that there are projects that needs me. - I think you were referring to your military duty when talking about letting go of a lot of things. At the peak of your popularity with 'Bad Guy' fans were very regretful to receive sudden farewell from you . Wasn't it that the aftershocks of your accident was so serious that you actually didn't have to serve in the Army? If it really wasn't necessary than the Military Manpower Administration wouldn't have called for me(laughs). During my early debut days I was involved in a huge accident, I didn't have cruciate ligament and received several surgeries so I received the judgement of serving in the Public Service. At the time of receiving the notice of enlistment, it was a period where I was receiving acknowledgement as an actor and I did feel a lot of regret, but since I was doing it with the heart of "let's do well" I remember being dilligent even at the Training Camp. - You're at the age to be thinking about marriage. The type of woman you want to marry? A broad-hearted person who understands me well. I want to get marry to someone like that when I am feeling happiness. The married people around me gave this advice. "If you want to be happy after the love is gone then the marriage will fail. If you hope to be happy through depending on someone, at times of distrust or betrayal when that expectation couldn't be fulfilled and the situation changes, the relationship will be bent out of shape. Don't be too greedy for a specific type of woman, you should be happy first, and by getting married at the time when you wanted to share that happiness you will be happy." - How about now? It's unhappiness. Haha. It's difficult. - Is there any One Day you wish you could go back to? There isn't. I live now, only for today. Haha. - How do you think you'll be living 10 years from now? I hope I will be more mature as a person. But as an actor, I don't wish to become more sensible. Essentially of course I will keep on antagonizing and think even more deeply about what's important, but there is a hope that I will be able to maintain a childish side in me. If I become too sensible, I feel like I wouldn't be able to live more like the person I am. I think the most important thing is to not get too carried away by the opinions and prejudice surrounding me, and to live my life through believing in and what I know, and being myself. ==== Article #3 [Interview] Kim NamGil "The Me in 10 Years Later? Even if I'm Lacking Sensibility, I Hope I Will Still Be Someone Like Me (April 4th, 2017) Have we seen such a bright actor? His speech is so fast, it was to the point we asked him to speak a little slower. That's how much Kim NamGil has things he wants to say. Kim NamGil is meeting the audience through the movie "One Day" premiering in May. Although it has now became a memory. Kim NamGil took his first step in the entertainment industry through the annual MBC Talent Audition competition. But after debuting, his period as an obscure actor was quite lengthy. With his role as 'Bidam' in Queen Seondeok, he gained massive popularity. But the Kim NamGil of right now as a meant-to-be Actor, has calmly laid down the memories of his popularity. If there was a good project, he seeks out the producers and appeal towards them to "use" him, an actor who works hard in his field. And no producer can resist such a Kim NamGil. And this Kim NamGil meets the audience through 'One Day', a film as warm as a Spring day. It is the latest project of Director Lee YoonGi who drew the delicate emotions between man and woman in his previous releases such as 'This Charming Girl' and "A Man & A Woman". In this movie, KNG acted as 'KangSoo",a section chief from an insurance company who lost his wife. As is the usual for a Lee YoonGi film, the emotional depth of his character was not something to be taken lightly. Despite all of this. KNG pulls the audience through the screen with his comfortable acting. As each year passes by, he becomes an actor whose acting depth keeps changing. - What is the standard when you're choosing your projects. "The strength of the story. And I try to think a lot about the diversity." - For the movie "The Shameless" it became a topic of conversation that you personally searched up Director Oh SeungWook and appealed to him that you wanted to be a part of the project. Even now, do you still personally put yourself out there if there is a good project around? "It seems so. But the problem is, a project that's good to me is also a good project to others. So the competition is stiff. So the thought that I have to be more competitive entered my mind (laughs)." - After MBC Talent Audition, you went through a period of obscurity before suddenly striking it big with popularity. But you are a now a Film person who is consistently working at what he wants to do. The path you took is different from the usual. "If we were to talk about the work I've done until now I think we'll have to start from from the first time I made up my mind to become an actor. When I was in high school, I saw the play "King Lear" and that was when I decided I'm going to be an actor. And so I did theater acting, and passed the MBC Talent Audition. In dramas I started with small roles. But rather than being disheartened because of the size of my roles, I wavered because I kept receiving criticism for moving a lot as if I'm doing stage acting while I'm supposed to be shooting a drama. At the time it wasn't nice, but now I think it provided a huge help in my life. Maybe it is for that reason that I'm not that hung up on popularity. Although my popularity soared through Queen SeonDeok but it wasn't too long of a period. Even then I was thinking " let's just go down(in popularity) in a good way". But that doesn't mean it will work out exactly as the way you want it to be. (laughs) Somehow all those things passed by,and all I can do now is having the intention to do my best. I'm not saying this just to be humble." - How will Kim NamGil be in 10 years time. "The title of Director Hong SangSoo's movie " Right Now,Wrong Then" really struck a chord with me. People keep changing so what was wrong then could be right now. It is only when the time has passed that I realized how a principle or belief of mine in the past could be in the wrong. And as I do more projects,I change too. As I will keep on changing, I'm not sure how I'll be(in 10 years),I hope to be someone who grows in maturity. It's different than simply being immature. A person who could still show a childish side to him, I want to be a person like that." - The fact that you served in the Military (which you didn't have to) while your popularity was at the peak is still a topic of conversation - "I served at KangNam City management as a Public Service Personnel. It's not that nice to be talking about doing military duty in the public service. Not long after winning the Talent Audition I was involved in a big accident. Cruciate ligaments were raptured and I had a concussion.I had to be hospitalized for 6 months to receive treatment. But even so military duty was something I must do. I remembered performing it diligently. I worked hard at it with the mindset that an actor needs a lot of experience. While working there, I also experienced the various issues and absurdities within the society." - Your age is not in the small numbers now. Is there a type of woman you want to marry? "Someone who understands me. My hyungs who have gotten married say "if you marry for the sake of being happy, it will be a failure." Marriage is something you do when you're so happy ,you wanted to share that happiness with someone. For the sake of meeting someone, I should be happy first. But right now I am in unhappiness so it's a bit difficult. (laughs)" - I saw you when you participated in a drama in the past,it seems like you have become more talkative. "I do speak a lot. And I like talking. But there are still some actors who speak even more than me. (laughs) Firstly, the surrounding views has changed so I speak more. In the past I wasn't the kind to be responsible of something and there wasn't a place for me to talk. And the questions just didn't come for me. There were things I wanted to say but even at events such as Press Conferences people weren't addressing me so I couldn't say anything. And on a personal side, when I was younger I talk when I wanted to appear like I know something. So it sounded forced when I talked, but now if I don't know something I just say that I don't know, and just talk. Instead that made me more comfortable. I want to talk about things I don't know about with people, and the thing that I do know about, I want to share that knowledge with other people. I'm curious whether my thoughts are the same with others. And so I became more talkative." - You said there were other actors who talked a lot. Any actor you'd consider your rival when it comes to their way with words? "It's Joo JiHoon. He's not someone you should underestimate(laughs)." 5
