I tried to search for the identity of the Chinese Empress' paintings on the walls (there are 2 of them) but I couldn't identify exactly who the 2 women in the paintings were. BUT I did some research on the clothes and the postures. I guess one of them is Empress Wu Zetian (lying down + holding something, seen on the left wall). This woman is usually depicted with such a posture. The 1st frame is from ep 19.and the other one is Empress Dowager Cixi (with the eyes looking at one side). In all the Ancient Chinese portraits I've found, she was the only one having those eyes. The 1st frame is from ep 19.And she was wearing a red robe. As I know, Empress wore yellow robe more often than red one when they were in court. Red robes, on the other hand, would be worn on special events such as festivals, ceremonies or WEDDINGS. Stage 6: The first night... Of course these are only my personal opinions and parodies are just for fun Enjoy~~~ *Jung Bong's voice* Awesome,Tam!!! I like that. Let's call this the Chinese Wedding parody. We had the western and Korean parodies now the Chinese one. I was wondering about that Dowager painting. But since I'm not Asian -- just a wannabe, lol -- I don't know how to explain that. Good one. Hugsss. What about food? Indeed these dishes are very typical in Asian weddings because they have their own meanings (http://thenoshingbride.com/wedding-post-3-east-asian-wedding-food-101-dishes-and-their-meanings/) The only thing I'm very sure about is TK's crab soup. Thanks to my brilliant roommate @moonkeeper Remember their first date in ep 8? The movie was "The last emperor" This kid is actually Puyi, and he's related to Empress Cixi (the woman on the painting from my guess above). From Wiki: "Chosen by Empress Dowager Cixi on her deathbed,[6] Puyi became emperor at the age of 2 years and 10 months in December 1908 after the Guangxu Emperor died on 14 November." So in the Chinese restaurant, the camera was focusing at THAT PAINTING before moving to TAEK. @moonkeeper and I will say TK is the CHOSEN one, the LAST hahaha BRILLIANT! OMG MIND BLOWN. 3 WEDDINGS.. AND GUESS WHAT, WE HAVE 3 BED SCENES TOO! 1. Ep 11: groom still nervous <3 By the way just a thought, didn't emperors that time also go to their wife's bed chamber/ the queen's quarter where the wife is all ready to "serve" him? Wink wink kinda like DS' position here? hahahah 2. Ep 17/19: groom is learning from his past experience and taking it a step further =p And DS' action here (looking at TK's sleeping face) is similar to the one little DS did in the third "bed scene": 3. Ep 20 flashback: our little couple filming their premiere episode of "dangerous roommate" hohohohoho... =p BUT SERIOUSLY SHIN PD... I ASKED FOR ONE BED SCENE AND I GOT 3... Popular Post mangachickava
Argument: SW was DS first love because of her narration below that overplayed her and SW walking out: “In the summer of 1988, the first love of Sung Deok-sun’s life—my first love—began.” Now before you continue reading and scrolling please go listen to her narrate. Did you listen?? Did you hear the cackle at the end?? Did you?? Make sure you do. So let us go back to the start of this love. Which according to DC was August 4th , which yes according to the Lunar calendar is summer. ( I will explain below how they got that date) So first love in summer. Check. 1998, 8 is on the left side above the signs Wait a second…SW is wearing a school uniform? and what is this! DS said they have two months until their dance competition for their SCHOOL field trip. Look at the middle it says 10, 15 So Oct 15th minus two months gives August 15th. NOT August 4th. Considered Korean school system starts late Aug, early Sept and… “There are summer and winter breaks, but 10 optional half days at the beginning and end of each break, which are attended by practically all students, reduce each of these biennial vacations to the remaining 10 days." August 15th would make more sense for the start of the fall semester, and Aug 4th is in the summer break. Also doesn’t SW that night come to get correction fluid? Is that not something a student in school needs? Hmm so why would they broadcast the controversial, political wire taping incident (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KmLh6kfVEM) and because it was aired on August 4th, screw the timeline like that? Quite an interruption. Almost like the writer is saying PAY ATTENTION. Before you scroll to through the pictures, I am going to give a little history lesson that might illuminate why the date is Aug 15th and not Aug 4th and also that the Mystery Chocolate is an “Easter Egg” by the writer. August 15th, 1945 : Korea gains freedom from Japanese control. War time. August 15th, 1974: Korean president during his ceremony for Independence day is interrupted and shot at. The President’s wife is assassinated. The shooter was a Japanese-Korean. credit Please read ALL of that. The scene after Dukbokki, and SW grabbing correction fluid: did he just put the chopstick straight down into the potatoes....*gasp* (for those without the cultural context this signifies death) and wait for it... And here I thought DS just had really bad makeup skills…she looks like a Geisha no? *Also the Japanese kabuki music plays in the background during that scene.* So did we just get confirmation that it was August 15th? Did we just find out what the next Reply story will be about? Same NL same. Good one writer. Since the date of the dukbokki scene was August 15th, it is now FALL ( also fall semester for school has started) --> The 7th Lunar month has started Ipchu (Kor. 입추, Chin. 立秋, lit. onset of fall) is the thirteenth of the twenty-four solar terms. It falls around August eighth on the Gregorian calendar when the sun reaches the celestial longitude of 120°. On the lunar calendar, this term is usually in the seventh month." first love in summer . Check Now I am using the Lunar calendar and not the Gregorian because the WRITER has shown that she is using the lunar calendar and Chinese astrology. 1. with TK’s birthday on Oct 8th. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanlu 'Chrysanthemums bloom yellow' during TK’s solar term and the Chrysanthemum festival is during the lunar month --> http://folkency.nfm.go.kr/eng/subjectindex.jsp?&d=seasonal&f=F6&tit_idx=1869 their name translates to wild chrysanthemums. As shown by their album cover. 2.The interviewer is asking about TK’s EXACT birth time to gather his fortune according to Chinese astrology and then we get SW's Mom talking about SW's exact date of birth and her conception dream which HMMM the writer pretty much spelled it out no? what did DS give TK when they first meet, a yellow fish? "one koi finally reached the top of the waterfall. The gods recognized the koi for its perseverance and determination and turned it into a golden dragon, the image of power and strength." 3. In ep 11 the three moms visit the fortune teller which as you all should guess uses Buddhist, Chinese, Korean folk traditional beliefs. In the episode the families are also shown celebrating the new year in FEBRUARY, because they go by the LUNAR calendar. (remember, ep 10 JH dad birthday on Jan 29th) So why would the writer have DS falling in "love" with TK in the summer? Because I hope by now with the golden turtle proposal you all understand that the writer is playing Creator and she does not just add things for no reason and without spiritual significance. and maybe because the importance of WATER? of TK being the Yin to Duk-SUN's Yang?? Water Festival: Yudu (Kor. 유두, Chin. 流頭) is a traditional summer festival that falls on the fifteenth of the sixth lunar month...The term Yudu, which literally means "immersing head in flowing [water]", And we all know the element water is in TK’s name Just like spam, spaghetti, Christmas, other American/Western things, the Gregorian calendar was not really adopted deeply at the time in Korea, and even now people still use the lunar calendar for their birthday and new year. To assume it was summer based on the western calendar, in my opinion, is a huge mistake and disservice to the depth of thought the writer has given to their love story. Doing that would also highlight why the spiritual/symbolic pieces left by the writer was overlooked so many times. The fact school has started means it also feels like fall. You can choose to ignore or disagree with the above, but really do you think the writer would have made it that easy for us? To have the narration so OBVIOUS? Let us listen to that laugh again HA!

Other people will see her as lovely and mature girl. But DeokSun, who always forces herself to say that she is okay eventhough she is not, actually is a girl who has low self esteem and just pretends to be okay. Augh. This girl T___T She breaks my heart everytime. This is the girl whom everyone in Ssangmun-dong perceived as "wild, tough, whiny, wails everyday, petty". Little did they know the amount she gave up for people's satisfaction and how much she had let them pick her as the "other" option. I`m glad she has Taek, who sees through all the things and feelings she hides. I`m glad she has Taek who can see what other people have failed to see in her. 11 hours ago, aoikarin said: The way JH call DS: UGLY... Yikes really breaks my heart for DS. Why she keep receiving such abuse? 11 hours ago, packmule3 said: "Yah! Why are you disgusting using your hands? So disgusting." And @13infamyss, he didn't call her Dukseon here, either. Just a yah. He called her "Ugly" too in this episode when he told her not to eat Jung Bong's sausage. I`m heartbroken now seeing that Duk Seon actually turned her head when he called her "Ugly". I`m sure this wasn’t the first time either that Jung Hwan had called her “Ugly” – now she responds to this name, perhaps, because she must have gotten used to it. Oh this girl, her low self esteem is rooted so deep. See, the very first time I watched this (waaay before Taek stole my attention), I seriously thought their dynamic was cute. How they treated each other was so different than how they treat the rest. How they snapped at each other brought back good old middle/high school memories. I enjoyed watching them snapping at the each other. I thought what they had right there would be something special in the long run. But these petty little things should only look cute at the beginning. If they were really the end game, bickering at each other should be just one of the things that made up their relationship; it should never be used as a foundation of their relationship. We never got a background story, that despite their constant bickering, these two people understood each other the best among all the 5 bestfriends. I had never felt that connection between them over time. (ie. Trash and Na Jung from Reply 1994 would constantly bicker but then he would call out to Na Jung if he needed something. Before he even asked what he wanted, Na Jung cut his question off and told him where to find it). Anyways rewatching this episode, I had an idea……. Perhaps this bickering between them isn’t really a two-way bickering. I noticed that Jung Hwan would always start picking on her (most likely due to the fact that he liked her and wanted her attention), but there wasn’t a time Duk Seon ever started a fight with him. If anything Duk Seon, I think, because he was always picking on her, has become really careful around Jung Hwan (I`ll perhaps revisit this thought once we're in Ep 3) 11 hours ago, cooleet said: SW really likes BR. He knew who's the real owner of the jacket that DS is wearing. Taek was so jealous of DS and DR. He really is a messy drinker. Y'know, in this scene, I just assumed that people, in that little community, knew each other so well to the point that they would even know who wore what. I was focused on finding cute things for both Sun Woo and Jung Hwan with Duk Seon that I overlooked at the fact that maybe Sun Woo knew that the jacket was her sister’s because he liked Bora. What I had in mind, when I first watched this episode, was that Sun Woo knew that the jacket wasn’t Duk Seon's cause he knew Duk Seon so well and the clothes she owned. LOL. I was seriously shipping Duk Seon with all boys, it’s crazy. I was fine with any boys until SunTaek had slowly built a solid foundation as episodes went by. +++ Anyways this episode was so much fun especially revisiting the novel scenes (I want to read that Dangerous Roomates too!) and that birthday wedding scene. I wish we had picture galore at the end of the drama that showed SunTaek as babies till 2016 events with the family of their own. I would have loved to see the pic that Jung Hwan took with Duk Seon and Taek in it on his 18th birthday! Also it’s adorable that technically it’s only Jung Hwan and Taek who exchange birthday presents every year. LOL. I wonder if they share the money to buy the other kids their birthday presents.
