Top 10 stock billionaire celebrities

The founders of Korea’s major star managements snagged the top four slots on the list of Korea’s stock-rich celebrities in 2014, online business researcher’s data showed recently.

As of Dec. 30 last year, Yang Hyun-suk, the founder of YG Entertainment, topped the list with his listed stocks that are worth about 185.8 billion won ($168.2 million), according to Chaebol.com. Lee Soo-man, the founder of S.M. Entertainment, ranked No. 2 with 149.3 billion won. Actor and KEAST majority shareholder Bae Yong-joon and JYP Entertainment founder Park Jin-young ranked the third and fourth, respectively. 
Actors and comedians turned out to have a tight grip on the rest of the list. Actress Park Soon-ae, the wife of the chief executive of Pungguk Alchohol Industrial Co. Ltd., placed fifth, followed by hallyu actor Jang Dong-gun. Actress Kyeon Mi-ri and her 24-year-old daughter Lee Yu-bi, who is also an actress, ranked seventh and 12th, respectively.
The number of celebrities who own listed stocks of 100 million won or higher in market value jumped to 14, up four from a year ago.

On February 5, a media source reported, “In the spring of 2015, Jang Dong Gun will take classes at Seoul Cyber University located in Gangbuk District of Seoul.”

According to the source, the actor will enroll in the undergraduate school of Culture and Art and will major in Culture and Art Business Administration. There, the actor will study the intersection of business and the arts.

Seoul Cyber University offers students the option to take classes virtually, so it sounds like the perfect fit for a busy star like Jang Dong Gun.

Jang Dong-gun is back to studying

Jang Dong-gun was admitted to Seoul Cyber University.

According to a media source on February 5th, his agency SM C&C said, "Actor Jang Dong-gun was admitted to Culture and Art Management at Seoul Cyber University. Due to the nature of the university, he will take courses online at home".

The agency explained, "He has always been highly interested in the management and production of art and culture. He will study now in the constructed education environment to deepen his knowledge".

Although Jang Dong-gun was admitted to Acting school of Korea National University of Arts in 1994, he withdrew himself at the time. He always wanted to back to school and finally made the decision to start studying again.

While he is preparing to study, he is also reviewing his next project as well.

South Korean actor Jang Dong-gun plans to enroll in Seoul Cyber University, majoring in culture and art business, local media reported. 
Jang is set to study in the department of culture and art business administration at the online college starting in March.

Korean film via stamps -- 'TaeGukGi: Brotherhood Of War'

The film "TaeGukGi: Brotherhood Of War" is about two brothers who are swept away in a gruesome war and end up fighting on opposite sides. The film, set during the Korean War (1950-1953), was released on February 25, 2004. It was a landmark in the history of Korean cinema, setting a record in ticket sales. 
Kang Je-kyu directed "TaeGukGi," five years after making his film "Swiri" in 1999, which also saw record-setting ticket sales. Jang Dong-gun starred as Jin-tae and Won Bin played the younger brother, Jin-seok. 

'TaeGukGi: Brotherhood Of War' (2004) is directed by Kang Je-kyu and produced by Kang Je-kyu Film.
In June 1950, Jin-tae, who lives in Jongno District in downtown Seoul, is about to marry his fiancée, Young-shin, played by Lee Eun-ju. He tries to help his brother Jin-seok enter college. He lives a happy life, though it is not easy to make a living. 
The Korean War breaks out and Jin-tae flees to Daegu along with Young-shin and Jin-seok. Upon arriving at Daegu Station to catch the train, Jin-seok is forcibly conscripted by soldiers and boards a military train. Jin-tae tries to bring his brother back, but he ends up on the same military train as he has also been forcibly conscripted. 
After their conscription, the two brothers are sent to fight in the battle of the Nakdonggang River. Meanwhile, Young-shin is captured by anti-communist militia and is executed after she is wrongly accused of having helped the North Korean army. Jin-tae comes to believe that Jin-seok is also killed by the South Korean army, and he later joins the North Korean army and becomes a commanding officer. Realizing what has happened, Jin-seok returns to the battle front and confronts his brother after many twists and turns, but Jin-tae dies in battle. Some 50 years later, Jin-seok cries after finding Jin-tae's remains. 
The film set many records. It cost KRW 14.7 billion to make, a huge amount of money at the time. Some 25,000 extras were employed and 20,000 military uniforms were used. On its opening day, 324,000 people came to see the movie, beating the previous record of 301,000 for "Silmido," and rewrote Korean film history. The number of screens showing it on opening day was 430, exceeding that of the Lord of the Rings movies.
