O_O OMO. So many spoilers pictures. I think we will all be at the edge of our seats this week. O_O Thank you everyone for sharing the pictures. Seoul is definitely progressing in how much they are allowing the film industry to shoot scenes in major congested areas like that. I don't I can even remember a drama that risked that much. Another reason why I adore IRIS.

Thank you Rubie, Lilazinprincess, and ncly for posting all those wonderful picture. For some reason, I thought that this will be a showdown between HJ and SW or the 5 main cast... why was SW and/or PCY not in this scene? BTW, love the pic of LBH on the bus!!

1. We're still only speculating as far as why SW accepted the mission. True, it could be so that SH wouldn't have to track and kill HJ herself.. but I believe his decision is more deep rooted than that. As joynara explained from reading the novel (that did not appear in the drama) SW was always jealous of HJ. SW was always second best when it comes to the two of them, and maybe by eliminating HJ, he can be ahead of HJ for once and maybe try to win CSH's heart as well.

2. Yes, we believe that SW is now an agent from Iris..

Spy drama shoots in central Seoul

Don’t worry if you see fast cars, cops and spies running around Gwanghwamun this weekend.

It’s all just a day’s work for the actors and crew on “Iris,” the sleek new KBS espionage drama that has had viewers glued to their TV sets since the show began airing in October.

To make way for the film crew shooting scenes for upcoming episodes in the area, cars will be blocked from the five lanes running beside the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts near Gwanghwamun Plaza in central Seoul on Sunday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., according to Seoul city government.

Another five lanes on the Kyobo Building side of Gwanghwamun Plaza will be open as usual for cars heading to Gwanghwamun or the Sejongno intersection.

Normally, there’s a 10-lane road that surrounds Gwanghwamun Plaza, five lanes on each side.

Seoul city government said it signed a partnership with Taewon Entertainment, the Iris production company, to promote Seoul’s major tourist attraction sites in return for providing partial funding for the blockbuster drama.

“The scenes will help promote Seoul’s major tourist attractions to a global audience and discussions are currently underway with foreign buyers in Europe and Asia interested in airing the drama,” said Kim Seon-sun, a public relations officer at Seoul city government, adding that Iris will hit Japan’s market early next year.

To attract future Iris fans from overseas, Seoul city government plans to create tours for sites appearing in the hit show.

Past episodes have featured landmark places in Seoul such as the Cheonggye Stream, Han River and the King Sejong the Great statue in Gwanghwamun Plaza.

The production company asked Seoul city government for a two-day filming permission at Gwanghwamun Plaza, but after discussing the matter with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, we decided to only allow one day, Kim said.

Some people expressed irritation about the filming schedule.

Kim Deok-ja, a 56-year old vendor who sells goods for tourists, complained: “If the traffic’s shutdown and people are not allowed to freely walk around the area, sales will be trimmed that day.”

i thought all filming of everything would be done... before the broadcast of any episodes?

^ Nope. Filming is not complete. It took the production team some time to get the approval from the city of Seoul to film the scenes in the pictures posted.

TV Drama Shoot Draws Big Crowd in Downtown Seoul

“Bang! Bang! Bang!”

“It sounds so real!”

In Gwanghwamun Plaza in downtown Seoul yesterday, around 1,000 people gathered to watch filming of the KBS2 TV drama “IRIS” despite drizzling rain.

Though it was difficult to see the actors up close since the production staff cordoned off areas near the set, people cried for joy whenever they caught a glimpse of the cast. The roaring sound of gunshots and explosion jolted spectators with surprise but they seemed excited nevertheless.

The scene filmed yesterday had the main characters Kim Hyeon-joon (played by Lee Byung-hun), Kim Seon-hwa (Kim So-yeon) and Choi Seung-hee (Kim Tae-hee) confronted by North Korean terrorists who tried to explode a nuclear bomb in the middle of the city.

The scene involved large-scale a gun battle and car explosions. A production staff member said, “We used up nearly all of the 4,000 bullets we brought.”

The scene will be aired Thursday as part of the 16th episode.

People took pictures of the scene and actors with digital cameras and mobile phones. Lee Ki-uk, 47, who has watched all of the drama’s episodes, said, “I came here with my elder son who wanted to see Kim Tae-hee and Lee Byung-hun. We didn’t get to see them in person because of the crowds and restrictions, but it was still exciting to hear the gunshots. I think watching this episode will be more fun.”

To complete filming within the given timeframe, the production staff began preparing for the shoot from 3 a.m. Shooting took around 12 hours from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Other scenes were normally shot with a single camera at different angles, but the staff used five cameras for this shoot. The actors even rehearsed at Seoul World Cup Stadium in the city’s Sangam district.

Producer Kim Sol-mae of Taewon Entertainment, whose company is producing the drama, said, “We went ahead with shooting despite the rain, and we ate rice balls and fishball soup for lunch to save time. Since weddings were in progress at nearby Sejong Art Hall, we stopped making gunshot sounds while ceremonies were going on.”

The road between Gwanghwamun and Sejongno intersection was blocked for 12 hours and makeshift roads were made in the opposite direction, causing heavy traffic in the region. Police said not only roads near the shooting location but also others nearby experienced heavy traffic with average speed of 10 kilometers per hour while the shooting went on.

People passing by the Gwanghwamun area experienced inconvenience since several pedestrian roads were blocked. A 49-year-old Italian said, “I waited 10 minutes in the rain just to cross the street (since police only allowed cars to pass). I don’t know what they’re doing here but it’s absurd that authorities only let cars pass while blocking people. It simply doesn’t make sense since people come before cars.”

Tragic Lovers Share Goodbye Kiss in ‘IRIS’

The November 25 episode of “IRIS” hinted that the two lovers of the drama are never to be reunited. Kim Hyun-jun (Lee Byung-heon) gave what it seemed to be a goodbye kiss to Choi Seung-hee (Kim Tae-hee) when she was released from North Korean captivity.

Hyun-jun, on the North Korean side himself, interrogated Seung-hee, who had been captured. He used Morse code to let her know that she should not divulge sensitive information, and tortured her himself in order to save her from the North Korean agents. He intended to make her lose consciousness so that he could stop torturing her.

But the North Korean agents didn’t stop there. They made her come back to consciousness and gave an injection to force her to reveal classified information. But Seung-hee refused to talk, putting her life at risk. In the meantime, Baek San (Kim Young-chul), the chief of the National Security Service where she works, asked a North Korean leader to release her because he thought that he could use her for his purposes.

Hyun-jun was responsible for taking her back to her home alone. Arriving at her apartment, he lay her down in front of the door and covered her with his jacket. He felt heartbroken to touch her severely bruised face.

Looking at her unconscious form, he said, “I’ve become a monster, as you feared, and I doubt I’ll ever be able to return to who I used to be. Please erase me from your memory altogether.” He then kissed her to signify a permanent farewell.

Meanwhile, curiosity is rising over who Baek San really is, his relationship with Seung-hee, and his past. Now all the attention is being focused on how these mysteries will be solved.

December sings for IRIS again. . .

About a month ago, we reported about December taking part in IRIS soundtrack (OST) with their song Love Is So.... A week later, December released the MV for Love Is So..., which contained scenes from IRIS. Although December faced some controversy with their performance, their songhas been popular amongst netizens, especially IRIS viewers, ever since its release.

Well, guess what? December will take part yet again for IRIS! They finished recording their new song, Can't You Come Back and fans are highly anticipating it. Two versions will be released - an original version and a guitar version.

Season 2 of 'Iris' Due Next Year

A second season of the KBS 2 TV drama ``Iris'' will be produced next year.

Yonhap News Agency Monday quoted an official with the production company of ``Iris'' as saying that the shooting for the drama will begin in May next year.

The official was quoted as saying, ``location scenes will be shot in Italy, New Zealand, Japan and China.''

But Lee Byung-hun, the hero of the first season, won't appear in season 2 because he is scheduled to star in a follow up to the ``G.I. Joe'' movie. Other actors, including Kim Tae-hee, are expected to reappear in season two.

``We have no reason not to produce season two because the viewing rate of the first season has topped 30 percent and its overseas sales were brisk,'' the official said.
