@Princi_86 I played the Path of the Dead score on a loop. That one is sad and mysterious! I love it, thanks so much! We definitely have to talk about scores someday.
Not sure whether this belongs here or there, but here it is. Complete with the lips.

I'm thankful for the post on Grim Reapers, @crazyoverkdrama, although I can't say whether I will be happy with blissful forgetfulness for the characters, because their memories are parts of who they are. It is rather sad to think that these Grim Reapers are basically factory reset products. They are even renamed as Kim Saja, every single one of them. They are robbed of individuality.
And I want the characters, including Sunny and anyone else to face the pain head on, while still remembering the good things and then moving on to build a better future.
As much as they'd like the past not to exist, it still does.
Also, dear @maryofbethany, another great post. I'm not particularly religious, not to mention I have never read Pilgrim's Progress at all, so it's difficult for me to keep up with your detailed explanations. But I have read Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace and in it, the concept of "tribulations that lead towards happiness" is alluded, too, so I'm somewhat familiar with it.
However, because of the show's onset Grecian portrayal of the gods (that they are capricious, volatile, etc etc), I'm more inclined to believe that the gods of the show are distant kinsfolk of Greek gods and goddesess. The jealous, self-satisfied beings who are constantly in need of interventions from the wiser lesser gods and mortals.
I apologize for any offense in this post, if there is any, it is unintentional.

Brace yourselves... Pizza PPL is coming....
Seriously wondering if KS really ate all those chicken since I'm pretty sure GR was vegetarian...
Ack, what's poor Grim Reaper doing this time? Giving the reaped souls pizzas? Like, "Instead of drinking the elixir, let me share my pizzas with you?" Because I'm pretty sure he wears The Hat in that scene. I mean come on.
Oh, and yes I'm sure Kim Shin ate all those chickens by himself (maybe Deok-hwa or Eun-tak ate some, too, if they're lucky...or unlucky, because the chicken menu seemed to have lasted for many, MANY nights in a row).
P.S. Yes, kind souls, I know PPLs fund this drama.

Speaking of fate and destiny
It will be interesting to see this show as a "free will vs fate vs destiny" showdown, with the supreme gods as largely invisible, fickle beings who lord their immense powers over the lesser gods and the mere mortals.
I can sense the injustice already and it makes me both teary and angry.
The Goblin
- Just because the gods decide that the Goblin must die (or end his immortality), does it mean he have to surrender without a fight?
- Must the Goblin let go of any chance for happiness and reconciliation, to ensure that he sticks with his bitter end?
Eun-tak
- Even though Eun-tak is just a missing soul and a Goblin's Bride in the gods' mighty eyes, is she not allowed to live and to love?
- Does Eun-tak's future have to consist of either violent death or blissful forgetfulness?
- Does she have no say in this? Not even after years of suffering?
The Grim Reaper
- Yes, the Grim Reaper was a cruel king in the past, but does he have to spend forever in self-hatred and guilt? Why? Because the gods want to see him suffer more?
- Is Sunny his punishment, and he hers, just because they meet again?
- How long do these two have to be punished to gratify the gods' whims?
Sunny
- If Sunny is the Queen reborn, must forgetfulness be her only gods-sanctioned relief?
- Can't remembrances bring her solace, or is this not allowed?
- Is she to live alone for the rest of her life, as foretold? Is it a self-fulfilling prophecy for her?
Deok-hwa
- Are silence and servitude Deok-hwa's only roles in helping the Goblin?
- Is it because the gods won't approve of the Yoo clan doing anything else?
- If so, then Deok-hwa has to stand aside and let anything, no matter how unjust and hurtful, happens?
Listening to: "Fearful Odds" - an instrumental by M83 (and shamelessly tagging fellow bgm fan @Princi_86 ). What a fitting title for these characters. The link is below, in case anyone is interested.

@packmule3 Ma'am I must've missed that encouraging post of yours. Thank you very much for that (I was so worried that my rambling metas and theories had discouraged people to come to this thread and there was a time when I hesitated to post for days), and for explaining the difference between fate and destiny. In my native language, they are both translated as one word, so philosophically they are understood by my countrymen and women as one concept, without any dimensions.

@blademan I had responded to your question earlier on Wang Yeo's pain in the calligraphy scene. I apologize for the purely speculative answers. Have you read it?
Now, onto Deok-hwa. I don't think he knew it... yet. He would, he is much smarter than he appears to be (he is able to read Hanja AND in Goryeo dialect, plus its grammatical syntax! That is no small feat). He's well on his way to understanding Kim Shin's past.
He wore rather somber clothes in eps 7-8, which probably signifies his mental growth. Additionally, in the lantern scene he looked at Kim Shin in a perceptive way, more than what I could expect from him.

@selenette Sorry to cut your post though.
Thank you very much for sharing this information. So it was his way of showing that he still thinks and mourns their death. Our KS is indeed a softie. Haha.
@azuri Yes he is a big softie. He wouldn't write Wang Yeo's name side by side with his sister if he REALLY, really hated the king without an ounce of pity and grief... I hope he could reconcile with the king and his sister, so the three broken souls would find relief.
I think since the color white also epitomizes purity and innocence, the white lantern also signifies Kim Shin's sadness in the two young people's loss of youthful innocence in the midst of political schemes, feud, and groundless jealousy.

@gutibear Thank you so much for reading the name post! I'm glad you like it. , and yes, @valzki, I think the names are going to be very popular .
RE. WANG YEO'S PAIN IN THE NAME-CALLIGRAPHY SCENE
@blademan I believe it is related to the 黎 (yeo) part of his name, 王黎 (Wang Yeo). Of course these are purely speculations, but here we go
1.When Kim Shin only wrote 王 (wang) "king", the name hadn't referred to anyone specific. It was an entire clan name, it wasn't solely The Reaper's. No harm done yet at this point.
2. After the 黎 (yeo) character was added, the name identified The Reaper specifically out of the many Wang clan's kings. Now the name could hurt him.
3. Perhaps, in this drama's universe, Grim Reapers can feel pain when their past names are invoked... yet we still have 8 more episodes to go to find out.
4. The character 黎 (yeo) means "many people" (commoners, to be precise), "dark", and "black".
I wonder if Kim Shin thought of darkness and blackness (i.e. the King's cruelty) when he wrote it, along with his regrets for not settling things with the young king before the latter died.
Because Kim Shin is a powerful Goblin, his mixture of wrath and sorrow (as he wrote) sent pain to the Reaper's soul... hence the pain in his chest.
RE. THE WHITE LANTERN
@azuri There is a lantern festival in Korea where people send lanterns to the sky, with their wishes handwritten on the lanterns.
From watching Moonlight Drawn by The Clouds, I found that in the festival, we could also make a wish to meet someone whom we hadn't seen for a long time.
But the lanterns are usually colorful. Kim Shin's was white. Why was that?
The color white is associated with death and sadness in Korean culture. Outside, it symbolizes cleanliness, innocence, etc.
So why did Kim Shin release his white lantern to the sky? Imho it was his wish to meet those two again: Kim Sun and Wang Yeo. He also wished to settle whatever debts he had in failing to save Kim Sun, and (perhaps, although he wouldn't admit it)... to save Wang Yeo, too, from the path of cruelty.
The white lantern showed that yes, Kim Shin grieved for their deaths (in spite of what he said about resenting the King for 900 years, and despite the remaining grudge). He mourned the loss of these two young people, whose starcrossed love story was as sad as his own.
EDIT:
In addition, the color white showed how both Kim Sun and Wang Yeo lost their youthful innocence in the middle of political schemes, feud, and groundless jealousy. I think this saddens Kim Shin too.

I'm sure many people here have known this already, but the names written here are KIM SUN 金善 (on the left) and WANG YEO 王黎 (on the right).
Now onto the name meanings.
A. KIM SUN
from KIM 金 = gold, iron
and SUN 善 = virtuous, good, charitable, kindness (Note: the character is formed by two other characters, 誩 ("say a lot") and 羊 ("goat" [= sacrifice, soft speech], implying that the person always speaks in kindness and is sefless/self-sacrificing)
---> GOLDEN VIRTUE, GOLDEN KINDNESS
B. WANG YEO
from WANG 王 = king (Note: the three horizontal strokes are Heaven, Man and Earth. The vertical stroke is the king. A king connects Heaven, Man, and Earth )
and YEO 黎 = dark, black, many people
---> THE DARK KING, THE BLACK KING, THE KING OF MANY PEOPLE

RE: WHY DOES KIM SHIN RELEASE A WHITE LANTERN EVERY 60 YEARS?
The answer is the Chinese Sexagenary Cycle, or the Ganji in Korean. The cycle lasts for 60 years before it restarts. It was the primary time reckoning system in ancient Korean era, which was adapted from its Chinese origin. Calculations related to an individual's lifetime was also done in this system.
So, by sending a lantern every 60 years, Kim Shin hopes to meet the reincarnated versions of both Wang Yeo and Kim Sun to settle his "debts" (and also reminiscing their deaths).
More about the cycle can be found here in Wikipedia.

SpoilerEdit: @LyraYoo thank you for the deeply insightful post on the King and Kim Shin!
@hushhh Greetings! I am a Yoo In-na and Sunny fan, but I agree with you completely that the writer has to give this character more depths! Especially if she really was the Queen.

@joyezz The score with the church organ was definitely The Reaper's, (1)
as well as the Room of Cups score, (2)
and then there's another one when he saw the Queen's face on the scroll, (3)
and when Kim Shin wrote The Reaper's name, I think it's either a continuation to (3) or a new one (4)

Ladies, I'm very, very impressed and satisfied with Lee Dong-wook's emotional scenes in Eps 7-8 of Goblin. I know they are short, but they're so impactful, surreal, and beautifully acted.
I'm also happy with the scores/music in those scenes. They sound like LotR/The Hobbit or GOT scores, or something that composer Hans Zimmer writes in general.
It's as if The Reaper was given his own epic fantasy film... which Lee Dong-wook and his character deserve, tbh.
This is unique, given that his earlier leitmotif is a mixture of the magical and whimsical (resembling John Williams', Nicholas Hooper's and Alexandre Desplat's scores for the Harry Potter films). His leitmotif has changed from light to dark in a span of 8 episodes, I love how the music director pays attention to The Reaper and to Lee Dong-wook's amazing portrayal.
EDITS:
If you must know, the Goblin has only 1 leitmotif in this drama. His scenes are often accompanied by the OSTs. On the other hand, The Reaper has three or four, afaik, which range from light-hearted to somber. Isn't it delightful?
Leitmotif = a recurrent theme throughout a musical or literary composition, associated with a particular person, idea, or situation.
Film Score =An original music written specifically to accompany a film.
Sorry I'm a nerd.

If it's the same student, the one who was her friend and watched her immortalize the leaf, is it that she was always dead?
@theseasasleep (Hello! I'd been wanting to say that your username is the definition of beauty itself, btw. There! I've said it).
To answer your question, yes, imo she's always been dead. Come to think of it, the classmate has never been seen around anyone else but Eun-tak at school.
I'm so sad watching Eun-tak's devastated look in her eyes, that says: "Oh my... this one is a ghost, too. Why are my friends ghosts? Why can't I have one human best friend?"
It was a fleeting moment, but Kim Go-eun showed it so clearly. It wasn't a part of the dialogue, but it was present.

oppa not hyung LOL
@joyezz Yeah! To be precise, The Reaper tried to call The Goblin "Orabeoni". I think he tried to fit the form of address with his ' new image' as a Goryeo girl.
Oppa would be too modern for 'her', so he had to revert to Orabeoni. XD

I apologize, but I beg to differ. Still purely absurd PPL to me, but I understand that producing this drama is very, very expensive.

@gutibear My social critic side loves that drama a lot, it challenges the notion of romance bla bla bla, but my normal side says if this is What Happened in Bali v 2.0, this would be carnage.
