RONDO 輪舞曲 (drama)

ok, this is my explanation

based on the scene and I interpreted it as:

i) Yoona is a hacker right, so it might be that she did her job in Sheinku ship, the probability that the necklace being dropped at the ship is quite high, so that's why she searched the necklace near the port.

ii) remember Song called Yoona and Yoona just said Appa and then her eyes become widen and surprise, I interpret it as if she called her father and asking him to search for the necklace unfortunately, it is nowhere to be found, so maybe Song bought another necklace just exactly the same as Yoona necklace (remember it was Song who presented to them their necklace)

iii) at the point where she has a new necklace becoz she might probably think that Takumi will question her about the necklace since he knows and she is indeed right.

never mind wrblee, I do enjoy answering your query as it also gives me a deep impact of this drama. Really hope the Koreans will appreciate this kind of drama :D

Hi..Jas,

This is the best series . For all those fans that living in LA , it will be shown on September 24th 2006 at 7pm on KTLA . This is such a good show , it will capture you from episode 1 , you will be on the edge as Yutaka character get deeper and deeper into the web that he would not know how to get out or who to believe anymore . If you care for rating percentage , then you should not bother to watch . But if you want a good thriller and a gentle love story then this one is for you .

I found that Choi Ji Woo is so much better in this series as she did not wail much at all but instead she acted so well and the chemistry between her and Yutaka was very powerful indeed . Yutaka stole the show with his intensed eyes , soflty spoken words but yet you can feel his frustrations , his pains , his losts through this series .

Actually , Choi Ji Woo is not one of my favourite ( do not know why ) but it did not stop me from watching this as the story lines got my interest and this is my first time to know Yutaka Takenouchi , since then I love to see more of his works but unfortunately , in Los Angeles it is hard to find a Japanese videos stores that rent movies or TV dramas with English subtiltle . I saw Rondo set on yesasia.com is on sale , but it has no English subtiltle .

Many would complain that Rondo copied so much of Internal Affairs with Andy Lau . Still it is a good series in its own way as the casts are very good . I changed my mind about Choi Ji Woo afer this ....

I hope this one can help you and if you have any request, please do not hesitate to ask, happily to help if I can

Guide to Episode 1 – credit to yessy and escapist

1982 - one boy (abt. 8 years old) came to Korea with his parents to see a magic show (circus?). Something happened and his father died in an explosion. (Before that event, I saw a girl that the boy gave his dog to?)

2006. That boy grew up named Shou (Yutaka) and he is a henchman of a mafia gangsters-group. But in fact he is a detective. There was some scenes fighting with guns and smoke...

Yuna (CJW) and Yuni (LJH) came to Japan, and lived in a market-area (?) and met a married couple with their help, the wife knows Korean so she can talk with Yuna and Yuni...

Yuna started her job as a violinist in a bar club, but unluckily the bar owner didnt give her enough paying as agreement before, maybe cause the guests of bar club dont like violin much (?) so Yuna came to complain. She was pushed into the wall and that made the mirror on the wall falled... Shou was there at that time and he quickly helped Yuna ... unexpectedly got a scratch on his face by the mirror...Yuna ran after him when he left and gave him a small bandage but Shou threw it away

Shou brought his pet (a cute dog) to a pet-care shop to treat him but this shop lost the dog due to carelessness when locking the cage... This dog walked to Yuna's place and she kept it. Yuni liked the dog so much and hoped they could keep him forever...

Shou came to the shop to ask for return his pet and met Yuna there. Yuna saw the pic drawing of the dog and turned to ignore it.^^ She quickly left the shop but Shou followed her behind..

Basically, the neighbour made a mistake in translation.

YoonA: My sis likes this dog alot. Can you let us take care of it just for a day? It's the same as you handing it over to the vet. We return him to you now, and we shall collect it from you again tomorrow, yeah?

YoonHee: Sis......

YoonA: *to Shou* Please!

Shou: *looks to the lady for translation*

Lady neighbour: She says....... Yeah you can have him back.

Neighbour's hubby: She (YoonA) seemed to have said alotta things? (LOL..)

Lady neighbour: I summarised it.

YoonA: Ok?

Shou: Ok.

So YoonA turned up at Shou's apartment (with the help of the address on the dog tag) the next day giving him a big shock. He got his multi-lingual friend to help out abit, but YoonA just took the dog away anyway LOL.

Back at YoonA's place, the neighbour apologised and explained how much YoonA dotes on her sis, hence such actions. Shou got the neighbour to help him write a note in Korean. He goes in and passes the note to her.

YoonA: *tosses it away* You also dont like to be treated this way, do you. (referring to the plaster haha. I love her here.)

Shou: *picks it up and hands it to her again* Justice is like family to me, and he's the only one I've got. Just like you and your sis. So I hope you won't make it difficult for me. If you are willing to return him to me tomorrow, I'll let you have him for today.

YoonA: Family.....?

Shou: Ok?

YoonA: Sigh. Ok.

So the Senku boss handing over some major projects from his son Ryugo(Hayami) to Kim Young Jae, because he wants his son to concentrate on the political scene. That displeased Ryugo.

Next we see him touring YoonA(CJW)'s neighbourhood, which is under his charge. He spots YoonA, and decided to tail her. At YoonA's place, he reveals that he is from Senku. And that agitated YoonA because Senku once tore apart her home (and perhaps family?) back in Korea. Young Jae's men start to mess up her place cos she was being rude. YoonA screams at Young Jae to leave. Young Jae then tells her "I like you. And I will be back." before leaving.

Kim Young Jae messes up the place and Justice runs off amidst the chaos. YoonA runs off to look for him cos the sis is worried. They feel responsible to Shou.

Shou finds out what has happened and in turn runs off to look for YoonA, cos she is very likely lost.

Last scene:-

Shou: You alright?

YoonA: *holds up Justice* As promised. Have him back. Your precious family.

Shou: *takes Justice* Cold? Let's go back.

YoonA: Why is this happening. All the bad things.. Even back in Korea. Wish I can go back.

Shou: Let's go back. *holds out his hand* C'mon.

YoonA: *ignores his hand and gets up*

Shou: What a stubborn personality......... *puts Justice in her arms* Warm huh? (:

YoonA: *holds Justice close*

Shou: Take turns yeah? Take turns. Ok? Shall make an exception and let you have him tonight. *walks away, and turns around*

Shou: *chuckles* Eh. Let's go.

YoonA: Arigato. Arigato..

---Snows---

YoonA: First snow. The snow's dancing eh? Dancing... *turns to Shou* Rondo.

Shou: Rondo?

Episode 2 Summary : Credit to escapist

. Yoona practices her Japanese in the shop. Her sis grumbles about how she has totally changed since the day of first snow. Sho meets up with Inspector, who tells him about a case of a missing girl, very likely to do with Ryugo.

Sho turns up at Yoona's place. With the help of the neighbour, he lets Yoona know that he will be busy with work the next few days, so she and her sis can have Justice in the meantime. Sho asks if the sisters are really going to open shop. Yoona says yeah. She will not admit defeat in the face of Senku.

Yoona catches up with Sho on the bridge, and thanks him in Japanese with the help of her note which she then passes to Sho. He declines it and says "Never mind. I don't even know what will happen to me in time to come. I feel more at ease now knowing that he has you to take care of him if i'm ever gone." Sho then teaches Yoona how to say "help" in Japanese and tells her to dial 110 (police) if Senku ever stirs trouble again. Yoona tells him "You're a good man indeed. (: I'm glad you came for me on the day of first snow. I'm beginning to like Japan after that day."

Kim Young Jae watches from his car.

Sho and Hide (his funny multilingual friend) turns up at a casino under Kim Young Jae's charge to get Ryugo to return to office. He sees by chance a suspicious petrol ticket in Ryugo's wallet. Kim Young Jae walks right up to Sho and demands to know of what relation he is to Yoona. Sho does not answer his question.

Inspector shows Sho via internet a suspicious guy under Ryugo's charge who may be linked to the missing girl. Sho tells him about the petrol ticket (from somewhere far i think) and says the corpse may be in that area.

Meanwhile the suspect calls Ryugo, all flustered. Ryugo tells him "It's not our fault. Everything will be fine as long as you don't sprout rubbish."

Kim Young Jae messes up YoonA's place once again. He wants her to work for him, and threatens that this will continue til the day she surrenders. Yooni suffers an attack. Sho arrives.

Hospital scene-

Sho: Dont worry. Your sister will be okay.

Yoona: Really? (she understands him!)

Sho: She's your sister. She wont fall so easily.

Sho: *motions at her plastered finger* It's okay.

Yoona: *nods and echoes in Japanese* It's okay.

Sho calls Inspector to check on the progress of the case. He gets very frustrated and decides to take the case into his own hands. Sho sends an sms to the guy from Ryugo's phone "settle the corpse now" and then tails him. Ryugo senses something amiss and calls on the guy to check. He then tells the guy to ambush Sho. But Sho tackled him instead, locked him up in the hut, and went in search of the corpse. Ryugo summons all his men to go. Sho updates Inspector, who also sends his troops over. Sho found the corpse with Ryugo's ring. Ryugo and the guy were arrested.

The guy finally agreed to give his statement against Senku (Ryugo did kill the girl), but was shortly found hanged in the toilet cubicle- the doing of Senku's man in the police force. Ryugo is released guilt-free. His dad summons Senku, slaps Ryugo (scary..) and tells everyone that whoever catches the undercover among them, he will grant that person any wish.

Sho screams at Inspector for messing up (letting the guy die). He is tired of the life he's leading. He sends a letter to his mom. "I am coming home very soon. Sorry to have worried you. -Takumi"

Sho goes to Yoona's place. He asks how Yooni is, and then tells Yoona it's better not to open shop. But Yoona says she will work hard. The two spend a sweet moment together.

This is the best series . For all those fans that living in LA , it will be shown on September 24th 2006 at 7pm on KTLA . Actually like I mentioned previously in CJW thread, even though the plot may be build under the same premises but it definitely gives different feelings to it, while IA focus on the gangster theme, in RONDO for me it is much more than that considering it is 11 episodes and 12 hours time, and it is about forgetting the revenge, promoting peace and develop the two nation that constantly became bitter over the sensitive issue in my personal opinion. Glad that you enjoy the drama :D

summary for episode 3 - credit to yuta_rule

the ep picks up from ep2 where ryuichiro(KH holdings boss) wants to find out who the traitor is. so in the opening scene with the roulette, it was basically to pin down the traitor.

so shou's basically panicking about his identity that'll soon be found out. he talked to his superior abt it, and his superior told him not to worry and that his id as nishijima shou is all under control. then he told shou to get hold of document related to Shenkoo, especially that of Kim Yongjae(shin hyunjun's character) because his casino is a source of circulation for the couterfeits they are making. So then Shou went into the KH holdings buildings in hope of securing those documents, as well as some classified info about Shenkoo's operations.

And then Jyameh, yoona's restaurant is about to be opened. She had to get her flyers printed so they were introduced to Kobayashi Ryouta and his parents who run a printing company. And despite the fact that they're really nice people, they were the unfortunate victims of Shenkoo's threats and are also partof Shenkoo's networks. (Shou found out eventually when he looked at the flyer and compared the phone number to the numebr he saw in the encrypted data.) So Shou then went to look for the father and persuaded the father to surrender himself and confess to the police, and the police will offer protection in return. And so Kobayashi did, but unfortunately met with tragedy.

And then the much talked about final scene.

summary for episode 4 - credit to escapist

The boss of Shinku has a plan in preparations to nab the undercover amongst them. "When that day comes.. we shall have it on the rooftop." (IA?)

YoonA returns Justice to Sho. She hands him a Korean manual. "It's unfair how I'm the only one learning your language when we're both taking care of Justice. You must learn Korean as well. We shall have a competition." She also brought some leftovers from the shop. Sho offers to accompany her to go shopping the next day in return for the food she brought him.

Yoona: Is it alright? Your work..? What're you working as?

Sho: That's a secret.

Yoona: *leans over* Jobless?

Sho: Jobless?? You're a nuisance. Quick, go back.

The police are investigating last episode's case, where Kobayashi was shot. His phone rings. The caller Sai says the ink he has ordered is late. He hangs up instantly when Inspector says this is the police.

Inspector smses Sho, asking him to find out who Sai is. Sho asks if they have found Kobayashi's killer. Inspector tells him "Takumi.. You can regret all you want. But you cannot interfere us."

Song informs the Shinku boss that a man in charge of printing their counterfeit notes has run away from the factory.

Yoona & Sho goes shopping! Yoona shows him a handphone strap that looks like Justice.

Yoona: (Japanese) So cute. Can you buy it for me?

Sho: (Korean) Cannot.

Yoona: *grabs the hp strap back* (Korean) Stingy man.

Sho: (Korean) I-am-a-stin-gy-man. (SO CUTE )

Yoona: (Korean) Yes!

Yoona complains nonstop about the electrical store not having a "Kimchi fridge" (Koreans have fridges with a special compartment to store kimchi) The store asst says she will have to make a special order. Sho drags her away while searching the manual on how to tell her that LOL. Yoona: "Kimchi fridge.......!"

At the cafeteria, Sho asks her about the necklace she's wearing. It's last present from her dad. Sho asks why Shinku looked them up.

Yoona: *does some weird gestures with a Korean dollar note* My dad he....... (I think she meant to say her family owed money?)

Sho: Is it because your dad looks like the guy on the note? (rofl!)

Yoona asks Sho again what his job is. He lies that he is jobless and is currently looking for one. Yoona encourages him.

Yoona embarrasses Sho at a dog bakery by saying Sho does not take good care of Justice and stuff like that. Sho promises to bring Justice here together with Yoona the night after tomorrow. The two hooks pinky.

Sho leaves after receiving a call from Ryugo to fetch him.

Ryugo wants Sho & Hide to find Sai, the man who ran away from Shinku's counterfeit factory, to prove himself to his Shinku boss dad.

Kotomi drops by Yoona's shop. She tells Yoona she is a friend of Sho's, and then leaves behind a document on purpose.

Hide informs Sho that the man who ran away is a Korean by the surname of Choi (Kanji of Choi is Sai). Sho is reminded of Yoona's dad. He turns up at Yoona's shop and asks in Korean if her dad once worked for the Korean currency manufacturers. She says yes. Sho says he will like to help her find her dad.

Sho updates Inspector. Sai/Choi calls again, but hangs up doubtful if Inspector is really not from Shinku. Inspector rushes out with one man. He smses Sho the location. Both arrive only to see Sai/Choi being dragged away by Shinku's men. Song appears and tells Inspector something.

Kim YoungJae turns up at Yoona's place for kimchi. Yoona asks hm to leave. He says "What if it's that man who has come? I see, that's the reason. You still have no idea, don't you. You're a woman even dumber than I've imagined. One day, you are going to hate a man more than you do me. For sure."

Sho asks Inspector what Song has told him. Inspector lies. Sho taps on his conversation with a high-ranking police officer. Turns out that Song has offered to hand Sai/Choi over to Inspector in exchange for the undercover. Inspector pleads with the police officer not to hand Sho over, and promises to find Sai/Choi in two days' time.

A worried Hide calls Sho up. It was very likely Kim YoungJae's men who had captured Sai/Choi. He says this cos Kim YoungJae's territory has expanded suddenly. Sho asks for the location of the territory- Area M7.

Inspector realises Sho has tapped on his phone.

Sho leaves Justice with a note for Yoona. "Can't keep the promise, sorry." He got her the Justice handphone strap. (:

Sho refuses to tell Inspector the location, worried that Shinku's mole in the police team might get him first again. Sho says he does not want to see people innocently sacrificed again.

Yoona returns the document to Kotomi and asks if she knows where Sho is working at. Kotomi replies of course she knows.

Lab results of the fingerprints on the shoe are out. It wasn't Sai/Choi they captured. It was all a trap set up by Shinku to lure the undercover out. But Inspector is unable to contact Sho at all.

Sho turns up at the location to see Kim YoungJae tormenting the fake Sai/Choi. Inspector appears and handsignals to Sho what is going on. Sho understands but takes action anyway. (Why?) Crossfire takes place, Inspector gets shot. But the two still managed to get away.

Sho rushes to the dog bakery.

Yoona: Why couldn't you keep the promise? Why? Is it because you're from... Shinku?

I loved the ending scene of episode 2, where yoona accidentally hits her hand with the hammer, and shou just took over and continued to pound the cabinet while she inspected her injured hand. if this was a korean drama, he would have been so worried, probably grabbing her hands right away to see if she had hurt it badly, and subsequently start blowing on it or something. haha. I'm SO glad that didnt happen.

I just finished reading and skimming through all the spoilers in this thread (yes, all 50+ pages) hehehe.... ^^

I was smiling when I read your post hehee... you're right. This is the "cool" thing about jdorama (which I like---despite the fact that everything about that handsome man, Yutaka is screaming the word HOT HOT HOT! lolz)

hi nadrika, to answer your question

RONDO means dance music. it is simply the name of the instrument that will sing a different tune everytime you play it. The underlying meaning of this to this drama, was each of the character is a very complex character that we can't simply assume that one is good or bad becoz they often change their character 180 degrees.

Hi jas, thanks so much for clearing this up for me.

I barely watched up to ep 5 and was still questioning about the meaning of Rondo hehe.. ^^

I first thought it meant "first snow" haha..

MV for Your Soul by Jo Sung Mo

Hmmm does anyone have this MV?

please please upload it? *puppy eyes* ^^

I'd really like to see more CJW and Shin Hyun Joo ^^

.........

Now about Rondo that I've seen so far:

This is such a great drama! and perhaps I could be very biased because Yutaka Takenouchi  is in it (he's the very first love that introduced me to j-doramas. I was practically in love with him in "With Love" -- whatelse can a girl asks for... handsome guy who can play piano! hehe)

Funny thing is, since the beginning, I didn't have any high expectations for Rondo. Perhaps because I knew I'd love it to bits and pieces since well, those two can make such a beautiful couple!

But after watching ep 1, I fell in love with the gorgeous main casts, mysterious storyline, all the thrilled-suspense mix romantic atmosphere in it, and the soundtracks. And oh boy.... the opening credits + Ayaka "I believe" blend so well and it's just simply awesome <3

I'll post more after I'm done watching it thoroughly. Gotta make some time to finally finish this off...hehe

Glad to know there are softsubs available for the episodes that asoubou team left off :)

I just finished reading and skimming through all the spoilers in this thread (yes, all 50+ pages) hehehe.... ^^

I was smiling when I read your post hehee... you're right. This is the "cool" thing about jdorama (which I like---despite the fact that everything about that handsome man, Yutaka is screaming the word HOT HOT HOT! lolz)

Hi jas, thanks so much for clearing this up for me.

I barely watched up to ep 5 and was still questioning about the meaning of Rondo hehe.. ^^

I first thought it meant "first snow" haha..

Unfortunately, I don't have the link of CJW MV For Your Soul. Maybe someone will help you up :)

Sometimes, it is better to watch the movie/drama without high expectation becoz sometimes we could enjoy it more as we have no restriction

Thanks jas for reposting the episode 1 and 2 summaries...I just finished watching episode 1 and my gosh...it's really good and by reading all the spoilers helps me understand more what the drama about..I love the song "I believe" and our Princess is so pretty with that long hair and of course YT's serious looks, makes him more macho... :phew: I can't wait for the next episode to come..

Although Rondo is being televised by a Japanese tv.channel..A lot of K-drama supporters watched it last night bec.of CJW..
