Team Dramabeans: What we’re watching (March 16, 2024)

by DB Staff

So, what are we all watching this week?

What kept you reaching for more (or agonizing when there was no more), and what made you want to throw your remote through the screen? Time to weigh in…

DaebakGrits

Wedding Impossible: The longer I watch this drama, the more anxious I get that Ah-jung’s fake marriage is going to reach a point of no return and things are going to publically implode for one or more of the leading characters. This is one of those stories, where I know it will end happily, but to get there the story is first going to drag me through a series of lies and misunderstandings that will likely drive me bonkers. And then there’s Chae-won. At times, I like her and feel bad that she won’t be Ji-han’s end game, but then she goes and makes a secret deal with his grandfather, and then I’m like, “Oh, you’re going to have a jealous streak, aren’t you?” I’m here for Ah-jung and Ji-han’s banter, but I can only take so much unnecessary drama.

4 Times Moon Sang Min Messed Up & 1 Time He Didn’t In Episodes 5-6 Of “Wedding Impossible”

Mar 19, 2024
by shalini

We’re already at the halfway mark in “Wedding Impossible,” but things have surprisingly slowed down. The frenetic pace with which the initial third of the show progressed has eased as one particular character finds himself in the middle of an existential crisis and proceeds to deal with it by putting his foot in his mouth. All in all, rather poorly. Lee Ji Han (Moon Sang Min) has had to deal with shock after shock the past couple weeks, from the fact that his brother Lee Do Han (Kim Do Wan) has no intention of living the life Ji Han has planned for him since childhood to the fact that his brother’s fiancée Na Ah Jung (Jeon Jong Seo) is the last person in the world he wants him to marry and to the fact that he’s somewhat warming up to said fiancée. But this weeks brings yet another realization. And here’s every time Ji Han utterly fails to handle it properly.

Note: spoilers for episodes 5-6 below.

1. Messed up: when he antagonizes her in her parents’ house

For someone who just professed that he likes Ah Jung enough to get angry when someone insults her, Ji Han proceeds to do a lot of insulting himself. He wakes up in the home of Ah Jung’s family after passing out. She tries to take him home, but he drunkenly enters the wrong code multiple times and sets off the burglar alarm to boot. So she drags him to her place where she, her mother, and her sister all try to wrangle him into staying in bed, while filming his drunken antics to ensure that he can’t blame her for everything he’s done under the influence. And when Ji Han attempts to do just that, Ah Jung whips out the video as proof.

She’s tired of all this. It’s bad enough that she’s marrying into a dangerous chaebol family, but she also doesn’t have the bandwidth to deal with Ji Han’s sudden intense dislike of her all over again (where did the guy who seemed to care go?). She promises to delete the video if he stops this game of seducing her away from his brother. He immediately jumps to the conclusion that she’s trying to blackmail him. And things only get worse when Do Han shows up at Ah Jung’s door.

2. Messed up: when he blows up at Do Han

Do Han has no idea of the mind games his brother has been playing with Ah Jung, or about the fact that Ah Jung has reluctantly begun liking Ji Han’s company (before he accused her of blackmail anyway). He’s too tied up in the fact that his ex Jung Dae Hyun (Shin Yong Beom) has a grudge against him for how Do Han treated him at the end of their relationship. The details still aren’t too clear, but it seems that Dae Hyun was injured as a consequence of Do Han’s status as a scion of LJ Group, or injured when Do Han was trying to hide that he was gay, and Do Han never apologized or bothered to do anything to help him. Dae Hyun is understandably hurt, especially when he finds that Do Han is now engaged and living quite the rich privileged life while Dae Hyun bears the scars of knowing that he wasn’t even worth a farewell or apology in Do Han’s eyes.

Wedding Impossible: Episodes 7-8

by Dramaddictally

After running in plot circles, our leads have finally found forward movement. A major secret is revealed, another is confessed, and a new contract is underway: a casual accord to pause all that pesky pretending. Finally, our forbidden lovebirds find the truth will set them free — well, free to go ahead with a classic Episode-8 cliffhanger that is.

EPISODES 7-8

Oh, if only I could bottle the last ten minutes of this week’s episodes. So much heat! From crying to clasping to kissing — sort of all at the same time. It’s a bit of a slog to get through all the seconds that the leads are not on screen together. But when they are — whether arguing or opening up — the spark is worth it.

After Ji-han gave his permission last week, Ah-jung can’t stop being bothered by it. She senses he’s lying — and it takes one to know one (“Why did you act in front of an actor?” she wonders). Their tumultuous tango is the central tension, as we move from Ji-han obsessively thinking about Ah-jung, to her unable to stop dwelling on him.

Now that the wedding news has been publicly released (and the conniving Choi siblings have given away Ah-jung’s whereabouts), the press is hounding our heroine to the point that she’s forced to go stay with Do-han. But, you know, he and Ji-han live in the same house, so now we’ve got our leads sharing an abode.

And what a first night it is. Following an extended bubble bath scene (not complaining), Ji-han saunters into the living room, bare chested, toweling his hair. Ah-jung, mesmerized startled, drops her banchan and they both stare. She quickly turns away, but her eyes sneak back in his direction (lol), and he unsuccessfully tries to cover his torso with his tiny towel.

Cut to the next scene, where Ji-han, Ah-jung, and Do-han sit in the living room trying to quell the discomfort, and Ji-han’s got his hoodie zipped to the neck — hood up — covering himself head to toe. Ah-jung tells a story about how her eyesight is bad and she’s not wearing her glasses, which might work if Do-han didn’t ask: “Didn’t you get LASIK last year?” Ha! Her look says she might actually kill him.

To create distance, Ji-han keeps calling Ah-jung “sister-in-law,” which annoys her to no end, but makes Do-han happy. The brothers share a smile with each other and seem to be getting along better than ever before. Of course, this is a setup because things are about to go down the toilet.

To get there, we get a series of confrontations. First, when Ah-jung and Ji-han are alone at home, she asks for the truth about why he gave permission when he didn’t mean it. He tries to wrangle his way out with a vague response and starts to walk away, and there’s a nice role-reversed wrist grab, with our girl Ah-jung pulling it off like a pro. Still, they don’t resolve anything, and go their separate ways feeling sad.

In a heartbreaking conversation later, Ah-jung does her best to confess, telling Ji-han that in this whole wedding equation, he’s the variable she can’t overlook. It’s obvious that she’s trying to give him the chance to stop her from marrying his brother, but Ji-han tells her to trust her decision to marry Do-han and he’ll trust his own decision (to let her go).

Wedding Impossible: Episodes 9-10

by Dramaddictally

After a mess of couple-y cuteness in the countryside, our lovestruck male lead is tested when he has the chance to get everything he wants — but doesn’t want it anymore. Plus, all of our leads are in a tough spot when the troublesome truths they’ve each been hiding come tumbling out to threaten their triangle.

EPISODES 9-10

I’m feeling like this drama is dragging out, but it doesn’t mean I didn’t appreciate the glut of dating tropes that Episode 9 packed in. After we were sent off with a lovely lip-lock last week, we jump back in to some after-kiss awkwardness as Ah-jung and Ji-han walk home.

They circle around what just happened until Ji-han asks about her feelings. Ah-jung finally admits she feels the same way he does — and then they have to contend with what to do next. The first thing they can come up with is to get away for a while, hopping on the next bus to the furthest destination.

It’s when they land at the seaside just before daybreak that the dating delights begin, and our smitten leads are thrown into a storm of adorable situations. They decide that since no one knows them there, they can just make up an identity — which gives them the freedom to be who they really are.

With an altered name and the proclamation that he fell in love at first sight, Ji-han takes Ah-jung’s hand and they make their way around town. They buy countryside clothes (but still find each other cute), stroll the local market (dorky headbands included), and ride bikes in slo-mo until we’re about to be sick from the sweetness.

Ji-han is more confident than he’s been before, but also more of a baby (Ah-jung’s words, not mine) and when he cuts his finger, he needs her to blow on it to make it better. She protests, like she always does, but she’s having as good of a time as he is. His actions say how much he likes her, and she wonders to herself how she was so blind before.

The salient point — meaning the thing that’s about to tear them apart — comes along when Ji-han says, “Let’s not hide our feelings and put on an act ever again.” Great idea. If only Ah-jung wasn’t hiding the fact that her engagement to his brother is a phony.

But, from Ah-jung’s perspective, she thinks that if she just breaks it off with Do-han now, she and Ji-han can be together. No harm, no foul. When the two lovebirds get back to the city, they decide that Ji-han will be the one to talk to Do-han first, since they still haven’t made up after their fistfight.

Do-han has bigger things to worry about, though. The reporter that’s been snooping around his life and gathering dirt on him has just gone to see his ex, Dae-hyun, to ask questions. To Dae-hyun’s credit, he draws the line at telling the sleezy reporter anything about Do-han and Ah-jung. But, the close call increases Do-han’s anxiety a ton — and it’s totally not the right time to drop the bomb that his little brother loves his fake fiancée.

Team Dramabeans: What we’re watching (March 30, 2024)

by DB Staff

So, what are we all watching this week?

What kept you reaching for more (or agonizing when there was no more), and what made you want to throw your remote through the screen? Time to weigh in…

DaebakGrits

Wedding Impossible: I initially liked the plot of this drama, but in hindsight I hate that so much of the story was eaten up by miscommunication and lies, and I’m not entirely convinced that Ah-jung spent enough time with Ji-han for her to be so in love with him that she couldn’t shelve her emotions for her long-time best friend Do-han.
