Me too! They are super cute. I personally like their interactions as compared to JW with the fl ( minwoo). The fl seemed better off with the karma team lead.
I like the part where JW was teasing the fl and said ‘daebak daebak’ or something like that.. haha I think it was on episode 2… Charming and cute..

But I like Daemyung and Aeri as platonic pair. Because they just have very cute Senior Junior chemistry, love it already.. haha.:getmygrooveon:

Also the chemistry with FL Minwoo will grow in coming episode. Minwoo is already somewhat into Skunk the moment she got to work with him if not before when team leader talks her into joining Team Karma. It'll be a sight to see when Minwoo discovers the real identity of Skunk. So looking forward it too.  :partyblob:

Stealer: The Treasure Keeper: Episodes 7-8

by mistyisles

Our little team is growing, but so is the danger of their mission. Theirs is a game of wits, and one that requires thinking ten steps ahead of their opponent — but they’ve got more than one opponent to stay ahead of, and none should be underestimated.

EPISODES 7-8

Lee Joo-woo and Joo-won in Stealer: The Treasure Keeper: Episodes 7-8Lee Joo-woo and Joo-won in Stealer: The Treasure Keeper: Episodes 7-8

Dae-myung retrieves the coin from Boss Jang’s laser-filled safe, but there are two problems: 1) moving the coin made the laser patterns change and 2) Boss Jang’s minions are on the way. Thinking quickly, Dae-myung slides the coin harmlessly across the floor to Min-woo and Chang-hoon, so they can get it out of the hotel while he and Choon-ja figure out how to disarm the lasers.

Fortunately, there’s another power switch on this end of the room. Unfortunately, it’s password-protected. But fortune wins out, because Boss Jang did give Min-woo the second password, and she’s stayed behind to help Dae-myung.

After disabling the lasers, the two have to fight their way through Boss Jang’s minions, and they make a pretty great team. Things get a little hairy once they escape out into the hotel common areas — Dae-myung has to shield Min-woo from a volley of bullets, and they end up swinging to ground level together on his wire — but in the end the whole team gets out safely. Everyone lets out a huge sigh of relief, and Dae-myung logs out of his suit for some much-needed rest and alone time.

Correction: they’re all out, but they’re not all safe. On the way back, Chang-hoon is waylaid by Hwin-dal, who knows he’s carrying the coin. Chang-hoon puts up a tremendous fight, even after Hwin-dal pulls out his stabbing pen, but Hwin-dal bludgeons him senseless and takes the coin. With Skunk AWOL, the team can’t get there in time to catch Hwin-dal. But — thank goodness! — Chang-hoon just needs a quick trip to the hospital to get patched up and back on his feet.

So how did Hwin-dal know where the coin would be? Dr. Go sold them out — and that’s why he joined the team in the first place. Not only does Hwin-dal take Boss Jang’s coin from Chang-hoon, but Dr. Go takes the other coin (the one he handed over when Tae-in caught him) and rejoins Hwin-dal elsewhere. Now Chairman Kim has the whole set of seven coins, and Team Karma has… one?

See, the betrayal may have been Dr. Go’s plan from the start, but it was actually Tae-in’s plan all along. He asked Choon-ja to make an exact replica of Dr. Go’s coin (with a slightly adjusted design so as to make it useless for treasure-hunting), confident Dr. Go would steal it back. Best of all, the tracker Choon-ja placed in the fake coin tells them both where it is at all times and whenever it’s close to the other coins.

It’s not long before Chairman Kim moves the coins to his super-secret, super-secure vault. Even Choon-ja can’t discover what all is in there, but she does dig up an interview with the award-winning Japanese architect who designed its booby-trap system: a creepy old man who seems to delight in trapping people in his “games” and who kinda makes the show feel like it’s heading into horror territory. Especially when paired with that unexplained, sinister-looking wooden doll that makes its way into Min-woo’s dreams.

Stealer: The Treasure Keeper: Episodes 9-10

by mistyisles

Our team takes on their riskiest mission yet, one that involves high-stakes puzzles, desperate knife fights, the revealing of secrets, and a bomb. Can they beat the deadly game and pull off another heist, or will the game beat them?

EPISODES 9-10

As Dae-myung and Min-woo enter the traps surrounding the vault, Chairman Kim heads over to sit outside the door with a cup of tea, waiting for them to either succeed or die. He deploys Hwin-dal to scope out the inside of the building for any foul play, and it’s clear this is a test for Hwin-dal, too. His potential replacement, SHOTA (Lee Tae-hee) — the *ahem* very pretty hitman who collects his victims’ teeth as trophies — is sent to patrol outside.

Almost immediately, the connection between Dae-myung and Choon-ja fails. That leaves Dae-myung and Min-woo to work through the traps unassisted and without the hi-tech features of Dae-myung’s suit. Choon-ja traces the signal jammer’s rough location inside the building, and Tae-in sneaks in through the drain to shut it down with a small bomb. Chang-hoon dons an older-edition Skunk suit to guard Tae-in’s escape route from outside.

Before long, the distressing flash-forward scenes from last week come to fruition. Tae-in finds the signal jammer, but he’s beset by Hwin-dal’s men (followed by Hwin-dal himself), who bash him over the head with a metal bat. Chang-hoon heroically fights Shota and his fellow knife-wielders, determined to guard that exit even though it means getting slashed across the leg… and then stabbed in the chest. Choon-ja is ambushed in the van, knocked out, and tied up, and Chairman Kim’s men start smashing her equipment.

Back inside, however, Tae-in is stunned but conscious. He detonates the bomb, destroying the signal jammer. Hwin-dal still overpowers him and raises his pen to strike, but Tae-in sticks him with a tranquilizer dart, beating him at his own stabbing game (minus the killing).

When Tae-in emerges from the drain, he finds Chang-hoon lying motionless. But thankfully (again!) Chang-hoon is fine aside from the leg injury — he was wearing a triple-layer knife-proof vest. As for Choon-ja, she’s saved by one of the men who raided her van. It’s Dr. Go in disguise, having decided Min-woo is more important than the reward of working with Hwin-dal.

While all this plays out, Dae-myung and Min-woo face three deadly escape rooms, one after the other. Room #1 features a wall puzzle in the shape of an ancient painting. With every piece they place correctly, the room slowly fills from the bottom up with toxic gas. Soon Min-woo has to stand on the table while Dae-myung, still masked, does the legwork.

The final puzzle pieces are the trickiest of them all, and Min-woo starts to panic. Dae-myung gives her his mask, revealing himself as Skunk, and finishes the puzzle just before he passes out. The gas clears. Min-woo rushes over to perform CPR, only for Dae-myung to wake up while they’re mouth-to-mouth. They awkwardly try not to address what just happened and move on.

Stealer: The Treasure Keeper fell to its lowest rating of 1.93% for its penultimate episode. Throughout the series, the K-drama maintained a streak of single-digit ratings. But despite the slow progress, Stealer: The Treasure Keeper has been among the most-watched Wednesday-Thursday shows on tvN. The adventure comedy will now air its finale. Hopefully, the drama will conclude with decent ratings.

Stealer: The Treasure Keeper: Episodes 11-12 (Final)

by mistyisles

Our team bounces back from last week’s loss just in time to re-enter the race for the treasure. They’ve come a long way since they first banded together, but have they learned enough to solve the ancient riddles and stop an evil collector from gaining eternal life?

EPISODES 11-12

Dae-myung has finally gotten his hands on his parents’ killer, and he’s not about to let go. While being throttled, Hwin-dal confirms that Chairman Kim gave the orders, and also that his assignment was to kill the whole family, Dae-myung included. The conversation gives Hwin-dal time to grope for his pen and reverse their positions, but Dae-myung ultimately sends him crashing through the window.

Dae-myung tries to run downstairs and finish Hwin-dal off, but faints on the way down. Fortunately, Tae-in and Chang-hoon arrive in time to catch him. In those few minutes, Hwin-dal disappears. Team Karma gathers at Choon-ja’s house, and they all learn what happened to Dae-myung’s parents while he sleeps off the shock and minor injuries.

As soon as Dae-myung wakes up, he jumps out of bed demanding Hwin-dal’s whereabouts. Min-woo quietly shares her own story of orphanhood and pursuit of revenge (on the delinquents who caused her grandmother to become permanently paralyzed).

While their experiences aren’t exactly the same, they’ve both found a new family in Team Karma. And right now, the team needs him. Once they finish this job, they’ll help him get his revenge, too. Thanks partially to Min-woo’s words and partially to a dream wherein his father urges him to move on, Dae-myung rejoins Team Karma with renewed determination.

Chairman Kim has already left for Gyeongju with the map he traced from the coins, so now is the perfect opportunity for Team Karma to break into his bedroom safe. Dr. Go, having previously worked undercover with the gardening staff, promises to get them inside. (Of course, he fails to mention that he’s never set foot inside the building until they’ve got the door open…)

With Dr. Go’s (albeit limited) knowledge of the grounds and a camera trick Choon-ja unabashedly stole directly from MacGyver, Dae-myung, Tae-in, and Dr. Go sneak in and open Chairman Kim’s safe. Their big prize is the ancient record book explaining how to follow the coin map — not to mention a clue that helps them discover the map’s imprint Chairman Kim unwittingly bored into his desk — but they can’t resist viewing the contents of several flash drives also kept in the safe.

The “test shot” videos mean nothing to Team Karma. But in their haste to flee and avoid detection, they leave one playing for Hwin-dal to find, and it rocks his world. These videos are deepfakes that Chairman Kim used to make Hwin-dal believe his sister was alive and well. In truth, she’s long dead, courtesy of Shota.

I liked this Drama, Joo Won did awesome

Aah good to know .. because I loved it too.

Sure it has its shortcomings but the drama was so fun and humorous. Some of the action scenes was pretty cool too. Glad they made this fun drama on such a meaningful topic of restoration of cultural assets and relics to its rightful place. Ending message was so powerful.

As for Joo Won.. I have always wanted him to play a little playful character because he has that side to him. I can't be thankful enough for various expressions Joo Won showed through this drama. He's master of playing double role and he served in this drama too. Loved Hwang Daemyung and Skunk play. :heart1:

[2023 Year in Review] Serendipities of 2023

by mistyisles

“Life can’t always give you everything you want, but it sometimes hides small gifts here and there.”
Twinkling Watermelon

If there’s one lesson K-dramas like to hammer in over and over, it’s to expect the unexpected. They just love to surprise us — but too often it seems those surprises are of the unwelcome variety. Like a serial killer invading your favorite fluffy rom-com. Or last-minute plot twists that overturn the show’s entire core message.

But in this post, I’ve decided to focus on the *positive* ways that dramaland surprised me this year. Because there are many reasons I keep coming back to K-dramas — even after an ending fizzles out here and a beloved character gets a personality transplant over there — and it’s not (only) for the eye candy!

So, without further ado, here are some of my favorite surprises and discoveries from K-dramas in 2023.

Stealer: The Treasure Keeper

Hands down, this was THE MOST fun I had weecapping any K-drama all year. I shouldn’t be surprised, though, because the combination of a Robin Hood-esque artifact thief with a love for dramatic flair (and who goes by the moniker Skunk, no less), a fabulous Hacker Ajumma (TM), treasure hunting hijinks, unfairly attractive assassins, and dastardly villains with elaborate secret lairs is always a recipe for a good time. And while the general zaniness waned a tad near the end, the show as a whole certainly delivered on the promise of fun and games and adorable team dynamics.

To be clear, Stealer: The Treasure Keeper is not a show to turn to for airtight logic or realism. But the less it takes itself seriously — and the more fully the actors commit to the silliness — the more fun is had by all. My only wish? For more episodes to develop the characters (and the barely-there romance!), hunt down more cultural treasures, and navigate more bizarre booby traps.
