Joo-won heads tvN’s new action-comedy Stealer

by tccolb

Joo-won, Lee Joo-woo, Jo Han-chul, Kim Jae-won, Choi Hwa-jung

tvN is planning a new comedy caper called Stealer: Seven Joseon Coins (roughly translated), and hijinks here we come! With a notorious treasure thief known as “Skunk” on the loose, the natural reaction is to try and catch him/her. But, adding to the action and intrigue, an entity called “Karma” decides to team up with Skunk – even though their organization’s goal is to recover cultural artifacts.

In the lead role, Joo-won (Carter, Alice) is back in dramaland as a government official named Hwang Dae-myung, who is part of the cultural heritage administration. He’s known to be a slacker – even sneaking in naps on the job – and is only a stickler about using all his leave days. Until now he’s enjoyed a relatively quiet work life — but everything is thrown into shambles when he’s suddenly suspected of fraternizing with Skunk.

Lee Joo-woo (Why Her) takes on the role of the elite police officer Choi Min-woo, who has recently been transferred to a unit in the suburbs. Although her new team handles cultural properties, they’re held in low regard, and Min-woo is determined to turn things around for them.

Jo Han-chul’s (The Law Cafe) Jang Tae-in, on the other hand, once headed the violent crimes division on the police force and learned about cultural artifacts by chance. He is now leading a secret project to follow Skunk and is also (or will be) the founder of Karma.

In supporting roles, we have Kim Jae-won (Our Blues) as the fiery and sassy Shin Chang-hoon, who has a strong sense of duty to his job as a police detective as well as to the Karma team. And because every good team needs one, we also have Choi Hwa-jung (Jealousy Incarnate) as Karma’s skilled hacker Lee Choon-ja.

On the production side, PD Choi Joon-bae (Mouse, Come Here and Hug Me) is at the helm with scripts by Shin Kyung-il. tvN’s Stealer is currently being planned to broadcast early next year in 2023.

tvN’s new drama “Stealer: Seven Joseon Coins” (literal title) is a caper comic action drama in which a mysterious cultural asset thief Skunk and an unofficial cultural asset recovery team Karma collaborate to fight against those who cannot be judged by the law.

Alongside director Choi Joon Bae and writer Shin Kyung Il at the reading were cast members Joo Won, Lee Joo Woo, Kim Jae Won, Jo Han Chul, Choi Hwa Jung, and Lee Deok Hwa.

Ahead of the script reading, Joo Won charismatically expressed his strong aspiration by saying, “I will try my best to create an enjoyable and joyful filming set.” Joo Won will be taking on the double role of both Hwang Dae Myung, a civil servant of the Special Investigation Division of the Cultural Heritage Administration, and a mysterious cultural asset thief Skunk. At the script reading, Joo Won perfectly expressed Hwang Dae Myung’s bright and somewhat clumsy personality by delivering his lines with a fitting goofy tone paired with a mischievous smile. However, once he acted as Skunk, Joo Won professionally did a 180-degree turn and put a charismatic persona as he effortlessly shifted into the charming thief.

First script reading for tvN’s Stealer: Seven Joseon Coins

by tccolb

Stealer-Seven-Joseon-Coins.jpeg

We’re finally making some headway on tvN’s Stealer: Seven Joseon Coins (roughly translated), with new stills featuring our main cast at the action-comedy caper’s first script reading.

With the formation of a secret cultural heritage recovery team called Karma, they get on the scent (hehe) of the infamous thief “Skunk,” who specializes in snatching cultural artifacts. But what results is a partnership between the two unlikely parties, deciding instead to “steal” from the stealers who can’t be caught using the law alone.

Joo-won (Alice) takes on the lead role of Hwang Dae-myung, a civil servant who works in the cultural heritage administration. Uninvolved and unmotivated by his work, he’s considered by his colleagues to be just a chair warmer in the office. But considering Joo-won is our protagonist, it’s likely that he will be – or is at least somehow connected to – the mysterious Skunk himself.

In contrast to Dae-myung, we find passion in spades on the police force starting with the confident Choi Min-woo, who is played by Lee Joo-woo (Why Her). We also have Jo Han-chul (Big Bet) as our experienced team lead Jang Tae-in, heading the cultural property task force.

Rounding out the group, we can’t forget Kim Jae-won (Our Blues) in the role of the energetic maknae Shin Chang-hoon. All the while Choi Hwa-jung’s (Jealousy Incarnate) Lee Choon-ja will be playing the team’s resident hacker.

Last but not least, our story’s big bad will be played by Lee Deok-hwa (One Dollar Lawyer), taking on the part of the ambitious and wealthy Kim Young-soo.

Written by Shin Kyung-il with PD Choi Joon-bae (Mouse, Come Here and Hug Me) at the helm, Stealer: Seven Joseon Coins is slated for tvN’s Wednesday-Thursday slot, premiering next month on April 12.

Skunk captivates with thrilling action scenes as he crashes into a window by swinging through with a rope, but danger awaits every corner as his identity is precariously close to being revealed.

Skunk shares, “There won’t be another chance if it can’t be found today.” A man also points his gun at Skunk and asks, “Who are you?” The teaser concludes with a brief look beneath Skunk’s mask as he states, “Let’s get started.”

Joo Won Teases His Double Life As A Dark Hero With A Knowing Smile In “Stealer: The Treasure Keeper” Poster

Joo Won Teases His Double Life As A Dark Hero With A Knowing Smile In “Stealer: The Treasure Keeper” Poster

Joo Won has shown off his duality in a new poster for “Stealer: The Treasure Keeper”!

tvN’s upcoming drama “Stealer: The Treasure Keeper” is a caper comic action drama in which a mysterious cultural asset thief Skunk and an unofficial heritage redemption team known as Team Karma collaborate to fight against those who cannot be judged by the law.

Joo Won will be taking on the double role of both Hwang Dae Myung, a civil servant of the Cultural Heritage Administration, and the mysterious cultural asset thief Skunk.

The newly released poster captures Joo Won as Hwang Dae Myung, shooting a playful smile as he poses with a vandalized photo of Skunk. Messily written over Skunk’s photo is the word “STEALER,” which was done by none other than Hwang Dae Myung. Given Hwang Dae Myung’s cheeky and confident expression, it appears as though he’s advertising the fact that he’s the one behind the dark mask.

Skunk’s photo is even more playful than Hwang Dae Myung’s expression as he casually holds up a peace sign. With Skunk and Hwang Dae Myung in the same frame, viewers are left wondering what a day in the life looks like for this “dark hero.”

The poster additionally reads, “A civil servant of the Cultural Heritage Administration transforms into Skunk every night? Double life dark hero.” Stay tuned to see why Hwang Dae Myung leads a double life as Skunk and how he’s ended up as a cultural asset thief.
