Jung So Min And Jung Hae In Confirmed For New Rom-Com By “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” Creators

Jung So Min and Jung Hae In will be starring in a new rom-com together!

 

On January 3, Jung So Min was confirmed to join the cast of “Mom’s Friend’s Son” (literal title) along with Jung Hae In, who was confirmed to play the male lead earlier in December.

 

“Mom’s Friend’s Son” is a new rom-com drama about a woman named Bae Seok Ryu, who tries to restart her troubled life, and her mom’s friend’s son Choi Seung Hyo, who is marked as the dark chapter in Bae Seok Ryu’s life. The drama will be helmed by director Yoo Je Won and writer Shin Ha Eun of “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha.”

 

Jung So Min will play the role of Bae Seok Ryu who wants to reboot her life. Honest and overflowing with energy, the successful Bae Seok Ryu is a perfect daughter parents love to praise. While climbing the ladder to success as the project manager of a major global firm, Bae Seok Ryu suddenly breaks down one day.
 

On her upcoming role, Jung So Min remarked, “It’s an honor to meet a project that I relate to and makes my heart feel warm. I’m looking forward to it even more because I enjoyed watching the writer’s [other] projects. As my second project with the director based on trust, I will greet viewers with a good performance.”
 

Furthermore, as previously announced, Jung Hae In will be playing the role of Bae Seok Ryu’s mom’s friend’s son Choi Seung Hyo, who is the head of the architecture atelier In and one of the most notable young architects in the Korean architecture industry. In addition to having great skills, Choi Seung Hyo is handsome and has the perfect personality.

'Veteran 2' → 'Harbin' Korean movies galore... Who will lead the 'Spring of Seoul' fever?

Leaving behind 2023, a year full of joy and regret, the new year of 2024 has dawned. 2023 was clearly a year in which Korean films were clearly in crisis due to the successive box office failures of highly anticipated films. 

According to the Korean Film Council's integrated computer network for movie tickets, the number of moviegoers who visited theaters from January to November last year was 108.44 million, of which 47.07 million were Korean moviegoers. 'Crime City 3' seemed to have opened up a path to success by surpassing 10 million viewers, but it did not last long. The industry was shocked as tentpole anticipated films fell one after another. Fortunately, the film 'Spring of Seoul', released in November, exceeded 10 million viewers, and 'Noryang: Sea of Death', released in December, did well and emerged as a hope for Korean films. 

What movie will be able to continue the box office success of ‘Spring in Seoul’ this year? Will the new works of Korea's top five distributors, CJ ENM, Lotte Entertainment, NEW (Next Entertainment), Showbox, and PlusM Entertainment, be able to move the hearts of audiences?

 

 

◆ CJ ENM, which was 'depressed' last year, counterattacks with a rich lineup of 'Veteran 2' → 'Harbin'

 

'Veteran 2', the sequel to director Ryu Seung-wan's 10 million box office hit 'Veteran' (2015), will also be available in 2024. 'Veteran 2' is a crime action film depicting a new crisis facing the more experienced detective Seo Do-cheol (played by Hwang Jung-min) and the veteran violent crime investigation unit. Following the first film, Hwang Jung-min, Oh Dal-su, and Jang Yoon-ju will appear, and Jung Hae-in will join as the villain. Expectations were raised.

The most frequently used word in the film industry in 2023 was ‘crisis.’ Although 'Crime City 3' and 'Spring of Seoul' reached the 10 million mark, and 'Smuggling', 'Concrete Utopia', 'Sleep', and '30 Days' did well by exceeding the break-even point, they are now expected to surpass the 1 million mark. The film industry was in such a dark age that people said it was difficult. In addition, due to various negative factors such as cast risk, there are quite a few works that cannot be released and are put on hold. It is a time when the worries and sighs of those working in the film industry are growing. Nevertheless, the spark of hope has not yet died. The box office successes of ‘Spring in Seoul’ and ‘Noryang: Sea of Death’ that marked the end of the year make us look forward to and support the revival of the Korean film industry.

Accordingly, each distributor is preparing to meet audiences by forming a solid lineup for 2024.

 

◇ CJ ENM, Hyun Bin as Ahn Jung-geun → Hwang Jung-min x Jung Hae-in ‘Veteran 2’, highly anticipated work

Director Ryu Seung-wan, who once again showed off his potential with last year's 'Smuggling', returns with 'Veteran 2'. 'Veteran 2', a crime action film depicting a new crisis facing the more experienced detective Seo Do-cheol (Hwang Jung-min) and the veteran violent crime investigation unit, stars Hwang Jung-min, Jung Hae-in, Oh Dal-su, Jang Yoon-ju, Oh Dae-hwan, and Kim Si-hoo, and is scheduled for release in the winter of 2024. Post-production is in progress. Director Ryu Seung-wan said in the GV for 'Spring in Seoul', "It is a movie set in winter. It is a darker movie than you might think. Actor Jung Hae-in looks very cool." The synergy that Hwang Jung-min and Jung Hae-in, who showed strong performances in 'Spring of Seoul', will show in 'Veteran 2' is also an expected point.

“12.12: The Day” Becomes 6th Most-Watched Korean Film In Box Office History

“12.12: The Day” continues to soar to new heights at the Korean box office!

According to the Korean Film Council, as of January 25, “12.12: The Day” had reached a total of 12,984,746 moviegoers, extending its own record as the most-watched Korean film released in 2023.

 

“12.12: The Day” has now overtaken the star-studded 2012 blockbuster “The Thieves” to become the sixth most-watched Korean film in box office history. Even including international films, “12.12: The Day” is already the ninth most-watched movie of all time at the South Korean box office.

 

The next most-watched Korean film of all time is “Veteran,” which drew over 1.341 million moviegoers to theaters following its release in 2015.

 

Starring Hwang Jung Min, Jung Woo Sung, Lee Sung Min, and more, “12.12: The Day” is a historical film about the real-life military coup that shook South Korea following the assassination of President Park Chung Hee in 1979.

“12.12: The Day” Surpasses 13 Million Moviegoers In Just 2 Months

“12.12: The Day” has reached an impressive new milestone at the Korean box office!
 

On January 27, the Korean Film Council officially announced that as of 6 a.m. KST that morning, “12.12: The Day” had reached a total of 13,003,228 moviegoers.
 

The star-studded historical film was originally released on November 22, 2023, meaning that it took just 65 days to hit the 13 million mark.
 

“12.12: The Day” is the first Korean film since 2019 to surpass 13 million moviegoers—and only the sixth Korean film ever to reach the milestone, following “The Admiral: Roaring Currents” (2014), “Ode to My Father” (2014), “Veteran” (2015), “Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds” (2017), and “Extreme Job” (2019).
