I'm surprised (or maybe I shouldn't be) that no one is talking about this one. If the Psycho President drama is getting some interest I don't see why this one shouldn't be. I actually think the acting is somewhat better than Psycho President even if the cast is younger.

Aside from having a multitude (and I mean multitude) of shojo manga cliches, it's actually quite entertaining. From Itazura na kiss to Hana Yori Dango, it's all there. There's even a Goong type scenario thrown into  the mix. Harems, reverse harems, cohabitation... the whole ball of wax.

On top of that the lead male reminds me a little of Haruma Miura from the wonderful Boku no Ita Jikan.

I'm loving this drama as well @40somethingahjumma -- for all the reasons you cited.  But the lack of subs is a real problem, I think, and why there's not a lot of chatter about it.  On MDL, the entries for S1 and S2 generate a lot of comments but they're almost all wondering where to watch with subs.  :(  A few episodes now have subs, but there's still more without than with.

I've started writing summaries for S2 episodes and I wonder if that would help generate interest?

Go ahead, if that's what you want to do.

Does the second series start at Ep. 24? I notice that on YouTube they're up to 31 episodes.

In terms of counting, Season 2 starts over with episode 1, but in terms of the narrative, the story picks up right where Season 1 left off.

Tecent Video's official YouTube channel has released episodes 1-3 so far (Season 2 started this past Wednesday, 3/8), which would be episodes  24-26, if you were continuing the count from Season 1.  There are videos for the next couple of episodes floating around YouTube because VIP subscribers to Tecent Video have advance access to episodes.  Someone must be ripping them to share.

Link to Season 2 playlist on Tecent Video's YT channel (episode 1 is subbed):

Since most of the episodes for Master Devil haven't been subbed, I've been writing Season 2 recaps for friends who don't understand Chinese.  Since the work is done, I thought I'd share them here as well in the hopes that others will be able to watch along until subs for all episodes are available.  (Episode 1 is actually subbed now, but this was written prior to their existence.)

Master Devil, Season 2

Episode 1 Recap

Spoiler

Picking up where we last left off at the competition, Chu Xia is kidnapped after having been tricked by a phone call that someone had a lead on her father’s whereabouts.  It turns out her captor is Gao Gan, a fellow classmate from the A Class.  He kidnaps Chu Xia because he’s got a beef against Qi Lu.  Specifically, he’s in love with Xiao Xue who withdrew from school after having been rejected by Qi Lu.  During this time he’s been taking care of her and staying by her side, but as she recovers from her sickness, she tells Gao Gan that she can’t get over Qi Lu.  He’s angry at Qi Lu and knows that he and Chu Xia have some sort of a special relationship, so in kidnapping her, he knows Qi Lu will soon appear.

Sure enough, Qi Lu, after having been tipped off by Han Yu that something was going down with Chu Xia, arrives to save the day along with their other friends.  First, he rescues Chu Xia.  Then he battles with Gao Gan’s men.  And finally, when he confronts Gao Gan and tells him to let go of “my woman,” Gao Gan says he’ll do that, but only if Qi Lu gives up one of his own legs.  Qi Lu agrees, and Gao Gan’s men proceed to beat him up.  Just as Gao Gan is about to give the final blow to injure his leg, the others arrive with the police not too far behind them.  Gao Gan and his men scatter.

Back at the Han house, Chu Xia tends to Qi Lu’s injuries.  When she apologies to Qi Lu, he reassures her that it’s not her fault.  In fact, he’s the one who feels sorry because he got her involved between his and Gao Gan’s issues, and even caused her to lose the beauty pageant.  Things are awkward between the two, so he keeps up the conversation by commenting that she’s speaking to him rather warmly and he’s not used to it.  After another pause, he tells her they shouldn’t be friends anymore.  Then he suggests they be boyfriend and girlfriend, and asks her to be his girlfriend.

A phone call interrupts them and we hear only Qi Lu’s one-sided conversation.  He tells the other person he’s not interested and that it’s late, so he’s going to bed, and hangs up.  When Chu Xia asks him who it was, he answers that it was just a harassing phone call, that’s all.

Outside the house, we see Xiang Man Kui standing there.  She flashes back to a past conversation that she and Qi Lu had once had.  It was around the time they’d just graduated from senior middle school.  She’d asked him if he thought they’d end up at the same college and Qi Lu was so definite in his answers, so sure that they’d stay together forever and even end up marrying.  At the end of the flashback, she walks away from the house.

Back inside the house, Qi Lu tells Chu Xia that it’s late and she should go to bed early.  He gets up to leave but then turns back.  Leaning in he tells her, “Don’t forget.  You haven’t replied to me yet.”

The episode ends with his smile, and her thoughtful gaze.

Master Devil, Season 2

Episode 2 Recap

Spoiler

It’s a new day at Si Di Lan and all the students in Chu Xia’s classroom are gossiping about the new transfer student they heard would be joining them.  Some say they heard it’s a beautiful girl, while others say it’s a handsome boy; either way, each has their preference as to who they hope it will be.  But then their teacher enters the classroom and introduces their new classmate and who should it be but, Xiang Man Kui!

The teacher directs her to her new desk and as she walks to it, she stops by Chu Xia’s desk to introduce herself.  Chu Xia doesn’t know quite what to make of it and when her friend asks her if she’s okay, she flashes back to the conversation she once had with Qi Lu’s mother.  That was the conversation where she finally learned about Man Kui and her history with Qi Lu.  According to Qi Lu’s mother, one year earlier, Man Kui up and left Qi Lu without a single word or letter.  This was a huge psychological shock to him and ever since then, he’d become increasingly cold, detached, and unsociable.  Chu Xia then also flashes back to the night of his birthday party and his reaction to her playing, “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.”

The bell rings and we’re back at Si Di Lan where Teacher Ma is finishing up Man Kui’s paperwork.  He tells her he’s happy to have her back at Si Di Lan and that he knows having her there will be a boon to the school, but he also wonders why she gave up studying at Si Di Lan’s main campus in England and returned home instead.  Man Kui answers that sometimes in life, you have to wait until something’s actually in your hand before you can know what it is exactly you’ve given up.  Teacher Ma ponders her words as she excuses herself from his office.

As she exits the building, Man Kui runs into Chu Xia and calls out to her.  She asks Chu Xia if she’s living at Qi Lu’s house and then proceeds to ask after Qi Lu’s mother along with everyone else who lives and works there, suggesting her familiarity with that household.  Chu Xia’s body language suggests discomfort, which is when Chen Chuan comes to her rescue wanting to know why Man Kui is holding onto Chu Xia’s hand.  When she asks who he is, he tells her he’s Jiang Chen Chuan and that he’s Chu Xia’s friend and maybe even something more.  Man Kui takes her leave and, as Chen Chuan tells Chu Xia she should be more careful, she steps on his foot and tells him the thing she hates the most is people who talk a lot.

Chen Chuan is walking off the injured foot when he runs into Feng Shao who’s been hanging around campus.  He explains to Chen Chuan that he promised Chu Xia’s mother to watch over Chu Xia.  Chen Chuan asks if he doesn’t still like Chu Xia, and Feng Shao retorts that when he started liking Chu Xia, Chen Chuan hadn’t even been in the picture.  But Chen Chuan just points out that even though he’s been pursuing Chu Xia all this time, he still hasn’t won her over so he’s really got nothing to say.  As other people start walking past them, Feng Shao suggests they retreat to somewhere more private to continue their conversation.

The boys in Class A are gossiping about Man Kui and how she once won a youth design contest.  It’s pointed out that even though she could rely on her looks to get by, she instead relies on her talents.  After the boys leave, Wan Zi tries to cheer Xin Wei up by telling her that Man Kui is nothing compared to her, especially her family background.  As she starts to suggest that Man Kui wouldn’t even be able to attend their school, but for Qi Lu’s influence, Xin Wei cuts her off.  At that moment, Chu Xia walks by their classroom and looks in.  Qi Lu looks up from the book he’s reading and takes out his music ear buds, but Chu Xia keeps on walking and so he returns to his music.

We return to Feng Shao and Chen Chuan where the former is telling the latter about a time when Chu Xia handled a sticky situation by herself.  Chen Chuan is very impressed.  Feng Shao then shares a book he keeps on how to pursue women.  Chen Chuan can’t help but point out how it’s filled with spelling errors and covered in his sweat, but when Feng Shao says he’ll take his criticism to mean he doesn’t want it, Chen Chuan backtracks and says he does.  And then, suddenly, an idea comes to him based on something Feng Shao said to him.  He jumps up excitedly, kisses Feng Shao on the head, and runs off, leaving behind a confused Feng Shao.

Chen Chuan’s idea is to transform himself into Chu Xia’s bodyguard.  He tells all their classmates that if anyone wants to talk to Chu Xia, they’re going to have to go through him.  Chu Xia does not look impressed by this idea and tells him to leave, but he just tells her that even if he leaves can still protect her.

The gossips start up again.  This time it’s about how Chen Chuan has become Chu Xia’s bodyguard.  The gossips wonder at the speed of this development because last they’d heard, Chu Xia and Qi Lu were an item and that Qi Lu had even gotten hurt while trying to save her.  Another gossip points out, however, that Man Kui returned to their school the day before, so that means Qi Lu is probably returning to her, which would in turn explain the Chen Chuan/Chu Xia development.  As always, Wan Zi overhears everything.

Which is why we next see Xin Wei turning around in her desk to tell Qi Lu that she hears he got hurt.  She offers him some ointment that she brought back from England and says it’s supposed to be really good for wounds.  When he doesn’t react, she offers to put it on him, but he says there’s no need because Chu Xia already took care of it for him.  That’s when Xin Wei tells him that she heard Chen Chuan has become Chu Xia’s shadow, never letting her out of his sight in order to protect her.  She then asks him what kind of a relationship does he think they have, to which he responds, “Are you especially bored?” before walking off.

Chu Xia’s trying to go home when Chen Chuan keeps appearing by her side to protect her from nonexistent dangers.  It’s apparent that Chu Xia is frustrated with him and tries to run away.  Meanwhile Qi Lu is waiting for her with their butler.  When the butler asks if they’re going to keep waiting for her, Qi Lu wonders why he’s in such a hurry when normally he’s the one who says they should wait for her.  Just then, in the distance, he sees Chu Xia with Chen Chuan.  At that, Qi Lu turns away and heads for the car.  The butler calls after him that you’re supposed to chase after girls.

Chu Xia continues to run away from Chen Chuan and runs into Xin Wei instead.  When Xin Wei confronts Chu Xia about losing the competition, Chen Chuan leaps to her defense.  That turns into an argument between the two, and Chu Xia seizes the opportunity to leave with Xiao Nan while Chen Chuan is distracted.

In the car, the butler tells Qi Lu that if he’s worried he should give Chu Xia a call, but Qi Lu denies that he’s worried.  The butler continues on telling him that he’s told him time and time again, women need to be pursued.  Qi Lu first tells his butler that he’s being too chatty, only to then ask how he should pursue them.  Instead of answering, the butler throws Qi Lu’s words back at him and says he’s being too chatty.  When Qi Lu calls out his name in annoyance, the butler laughs before taking something out to give to him.  It’s a box and inside is a brooch.  The butler says that when Chu Xia sees it, she’ll definitely like it.

Chu Xia and Xiao Nan successfully run away and exit campus.  As Chu Xia wonders what’s gotten into Chen Chuan, her friend tells her she thinks Chen Chuan likes her.  Chu Xia doesn’t think it’s possible and thinks it’s more like he’s still reeling from the episode with Gao Gan.  She then tells Xiao Nan not to worry because she’s still going to help her go after him, but Xiao Nan asks who wants to go after him.  When Chu Xia reminds her she had a crush on him, Xiao Nan tries to throw her off by pointing out she likes all good-looking boys.  After all, she once crushed on Han Yu too.  She then pretends to run after another good-looking guy in order to end the conversation.

Just then Chu Xia is approached by three giants in black suits who tell her their boss wants to meet her.  In the car she keeps asking after their identities and wonders if they were sent by Gao Gan.  The kidnappers do their best to ignore her screaming and when they can’t take it anymore, they apologize and then muffle her.  She’s then dragged into a room where is seated across from an old man who comments with some surprise that she’s a beauty.  She wonders to herself who he might be.

As they sit across from each other, taking each other’s measure, the old man finally gets up and walks over to her with a glass of water.  She doesn’t know what he’s trying to do with it and grabs his arm.  The bodyguards step forward and that’s when Han Yu appears from outside the window and calls out, “Grandfather!”

Han Yu asks his grandfather how he could have Chu Xia captured just to bring her to their house.  His grandfather tells him that’s enough, and Chu Xia leaps into an apology for her earlier behavior saying she didn’t know that he was Han Yu’s grandfather.  Han Yu’s grandfather asks her if she thinks it’s enough to simply say, “I’m sorry.”  He then explains that he’d simply wanted to know who it was who had caused his grandson to become hurt, and to give that person a lesson.  He never imagined though that the other person would be such a strong person – someone beautiful who even faced with adversity is capable of finding their way out of it.  He’s clearly impressed and thus suggests that she marry Han Yu and become his granddaughter-in-law.  Both Chu Xia and Han Yu react with a, “What?!”

Master Devil, Season 2

Episode 3 Recap

Spoiler

Han Yu’s grandfather takes a liking to Chu Xia and is determined to marry her off to his grandson the minute they graduate from school.  Although Han Yu and Chu Xia try to tell him they’re just friends (with Chu Xia being a bit more forceful in her declarations of such, much to Han Yu’s obvious disappointment), he’s not the least bit deterred and starts directing his staff about wedding plans.  That’s when Chu Xia finally tells him that she already has someone in mind for marriage.

Back at the Han household, Qi Lu is obviously waiting up for Chu Xia and wondering as to her whereabouts.  Xiao Nan calls his cell phone looking for her and that’s when he realizes she’s not with her friend, as he’d assumed.  Xiao Nan wonders if Chu Xia is with Chen Chuan, and with his imagination now running rampant at that suggestion, he runs for the door and straight into Chen Chuan who’s also looking for Chu Xia.  That’s when Chu Xia arrives home escorted by Han Yu and his grandfather.

Grandfather is still determined to have Chu Xia for his granddaughter-in-law and announces such to Qi Lu’s mother.  Qi Lu scoffs at that announcement and walks away, but his mother and Chen Chuan jump in immediately to tell him that’s not possible.  As the three of them bicker over Chu Xa, Han Yu sends her off to bed.

Chu Xia opens the door to her bedroom but Qi Lu pipes up from behind, scaring her.  He wants to know if she had fun worrying everyone by not answering her phone.  She asks him if he was worried about her.  He denies it vehemently by wondering why he would like someone with her looks.  When she asks him what he means by that, he just tells her he doesn’t know what Han Yu’s grandfather sees in her.  Chu Xia wonders what’s gotten into him again and he tells her he’s just trying to figure out why it is that lately it seems like everyone seems to be into her.  She tells him he’s gone too far and reminds him that just the other day he was asking her to be his girlfriend.  He tells her he forgot about that, to which she responds that she must have also misremembered things before shutting the door in his face.

The next day Chu Xia refuses to travel to school with Qi Lu.  At school, Xin Wei tries to invite Qi Lu to dinner at her house.  He declines and when she asks him if he doesn’t know that she’s interested in him, he tells her that he does know but knowing doesn’t mean he has to like her back.  Shocked by his answer, she wonders if he’s behaving like this towards her because of Man Kui or, worse, Chu Xia.  When they witness Chen Chuan running after Chu Xia outside their classroom window, she starts to make digs about how Qi Lu needs to work harder because of the rumors she’s heard about Chen Chuan pursuing Chu Xia.  Of course that just upsets him and he tells her she sure is chatty and then walks off.

When Qi Lu returns home from school that night he ignores everybody and heads directly for his room.  Chu Xia arrives home shortly thereafter and sits down with his mother to share how her day went.  That’s when Man Kui arrives.  She tells Qi Lu’s mother she’s there to pay her belated respects.  She also has gifts for everyone, including Chu Xia and the servants.  Qi Lu’s mother is not impressed and firmly puts her in her place by requesting that Man Kui refer to her by a more formal title than the informal one she allows Chu Xia to use (and presumably had allowed Man Kui to use when she was dating her son).  When Man Kui observes that not much has changed in the Han household, Qi Lu’s mother disagrees and starts to point all the changes that have been made to the house, the most important of which is Chu Xia coming to live with them.  She then tells Man Kui it’s late so she should go, but that’s when Qi Lu steps out and tells her they should talk.

Outside on the balcony, Man Kui tries to engage Qi Lu in a conversation by chatting about the stars.  When he finally speaks he wonders if she isn’t tired and asks her if she doesn’t understand, “It’s all in the past.”  That’s when Man Kui reminds him that he was the one who taught her how to play, “Little Little Star,” and who’d made all these plans for them.  She finishes by saying, “I’m sorry, I really didn’t know…” But he cuts her off by telling her that if she came to seek forgiveness, he forgives her, but apart from that, the current Xiang Man Kui has nothing to him anymore.  He also tells her that if she came to him for anything other than to apologize, he’s got nothing else for her and walks away.

Back in the house, he lets his mother and Chu Xia know he was aware of them spying on him and Man Kui.  His mother fumbles for an excuse and Man Kui reenters the house as well.  He then tells them his wound seems to have come open again and asks for help with it.  Chu Xia follows and his mother sends Man Kui away once more.

The next day at school it is announced that Qi Lu, Chu Xia, Xiao Nan, Chen Chuan, Man Kui, Xin Wei, Wan Zi, and another student from Class B will be participating in a drama project.  Each of them selects a piece of paper to find out the role they will be playing.  Nobody seems to be particularly happy with the roles they get, but the teacher refuses to allow them to switch their roles.  Outside, somebody is creeping around campus in a white raincoat.  The nurse notices this and follows after him as he runs away.  The episode ends with her calling out for him to stop running.

I just started this drama and so far I'm enjoying it. I was checking the fan channel in Viki for ages, but so far no liscense. Then someone told me that it's available with english subs on youtube, so i went there. The TencentVideo channel on Youtube has both Season 1 and Season 2, but only a few episodes are subbed in english. Hopefully, they will sub more. I think Tencent must have the streaming liscense. Thanks so much, @themarchioness for providing recaps of the Season 2 episodes-much appreciated!

Tencent Video is a Chinese video-streaming website and Master Devil is one of their dramas, which is why they are the ones distributing it.  You can watch the drama on their website (subscribers to their website have access to advance episodes) but they also upload to their own YouTube channel (which is where I am also watching it).  :)

Happy to provide recaps and looking forward to a new episode tomorrow!

Master Devil, Season 2

Episode 4 Recap

Spoiler

Wan Zi and Xin Wei are sitting on the stage with their scripts.  Wan Zi tells Xin Wei that lately there’s been a lot of weird stuff going on outside their school gates so she should be careful.  At that moment, Man Kuai joins them on stage but sits apart from them.  That prompts Wan Zi to start making all sorts of comments to Man Kui about how only people who are born with certain qualities can be properly considered to be part of the upper echelons of their society and how “some” people can try but it will never be the same.  She’s basically being a snob and even Xin Wei eventually tires of Wan Zi’s talk, telling her to shut up.  She then sends Wan Zi away telling her she has something to say to Man Kui.

Xin Wei begins by telling Man Kui that even though she’s been back for a while now, they haven’t greeted each properly.  “It’s been a long time, Xiang Man Kui.”

In one of the back rooms, Chu Xia is busy moving boxes.  Qi Lu arrives and comments that she really is the type to have been born with superhuman strength.  When Chu Xia asks him why he came, he answers flippantly that he came to move stuff.  But she sends him away and tells him not to bother her.  That’s when Qi Lu enters the room anyway and starts to tell her about how American doctors have noted that when women appear to be feeling down, freckles seem to appear on their face.  But when their moods improve, the freckles seem to disappear.  Chu Xia asks him what he means by that, and he answers that her face seems to have grown some freckles lately.

He’s obviously trying to show some care and concern here, but doing it in his typical Qi Lu back-handed way, so Chu Xia immediately takes offense thinking that he’s criticizing her looks once again.  To his credit this time, Qi Lu can tell she’s upset and starts to backtrack (literally) while mumbling all sorts of things that aren’t making things any better.  When he asks her if she understands what he’s trying to say, she says she does.  He smiles with relief, but then she cuts him off by saying, “You’re saying I’m stupid.”  That’s when she starts to hit him with sticks.  When he tells her to calm down, she says, “A few days ago you were saying stuff like, ‘Don’t touch my woman.’  But now, you’re complaining I’m ugly and saying I’m stupid.  I’ve never met a man more prone to flip-flopping than you.”  He tries to tell her that’s not what he meant, but she doesn’t care what he meant and tells him that even if she dies, she will never be his girlfriend.  Then she sends him away and shuts the door in his face.  On the other side of the door, we see that Qi Lu had wanted to give her his present.  (Poor Qi Lu, but he really needs to work on those moves!)

The students are back in drama class with the teacher providing instructions as to the next scene they’re about to act out.  It’s from “Pride and Prejudice,” and it looks like they’re acting out the scene where Jane goes to visit Bingley’s sister and gets caught in the rain, falls ill, and then Elizabeth has to visit and overhears the Bingley sisters being nasty.  From the directions given, Chu Xia is playing Jane, Man Kui is Elizabeth, Qi Lu is Darcy, Xin Wei and Wan Zi are the Bingley sisters, and Jian Ren (from Class B ) is Bingley.  Once he’ set the scene, the teacher tells them to begin.

Man Kui and Wan Zi start acting out their lines (they’re at the “six inches in petticoat” scene).  They ask Darcy/Qi Lu for his opinion.  When he says he doesn’t think it’s that big of a deal, Jian Ren tells him that he’s stolen his line and spoken the wrong line.  But Qi Lu doesn’t care and stands up instead; he starts to lay into the Bingley sisters and asks them if they even realize how badly they dance.  (As someone very familiar with the Pride and Prejudice story, I can tell he is totally going off script at this point.  LOL.)  After telling Caroline/Xin Wei he doesn’t even know what to say to her, he starts to lay into Bingley/Jian Ren by asking him if he’s just going to sit there and listen to his sisters criticize the woman he loves.  That’s when Jane/Chu Xia cuts in and asks him if he’s gone crazy.  He responds by asking her if she can’t tell that he’s trying to help her.  Jane answers that she doesn’t need his help and that the day before, she danced very happily with Bingley, and that his sisters really like her.  But Darcy points out how Bingley’s not willing to fight on her behalf, to which Jane merely says that the person she likes is Bingley so Darcy should just take care of himself.  Taking another crack at Bingley, Darcy then suggests in the alternative that he take Jane to his Pemberley where he’ll show her some beautiful scenery.  As he bows and offers his hand, Chu Xia mutters under her breath that they’re in the middle of class and asks him to stop trying to mess things up.  Qi Lu tells her that he’s being serious and earnest in his play-acting.  As they bicker over whether he’s trying to drag everyone down the toilet with him or whether he’s doing a great job, Chen Chuan starts to freak out over witnessing their intimate conversation.  That’s when Xiao Nan asks him if there’s something wrong with him.

The teacher finally cuts in and excitedly tells the class that this is exactly what he’d wanted to see.  He loves the off road ad libbing.  He then takes the fireplace (Chen Chuan) and the umbrella (Xiao Nan) to task for not playing their parts well (which is basically to stand there and hold up their signs identifying their role of the fireplace and wall, respectively).  After he finishes berating them, he tells the actors to continue on.

Qi Lu picks up where he left off by taking Chu Xia’s arm and telling her that they’re leaving for Pemberley.  She refuses to leave with him and a tug of war ensues.  When he tugs hard enough for her to go flying into his embrace, the teacher loves it but Chen Chuan freaks out and Xin Wei and Wan Zi exchange nodding looks.  That’s when Wan Zi gets up and trips Chu Xia, which again sends her flying into Qi Lu.  Chen Chuan can’t stand it anymore and flies forward, pushing Xin Wei out of the way.  When she stands up, she accuses Chu Xia of having shoved her.  Chu Xia tries to tell her it wasn’t her and Chen Chuan even claims responsibility for the shove, but Xin Wei refuses to believe either of them, even going so far as to imply that Chu Xia’s just trying to seek revenge against her for having won that beauty competition.  Even Qi Lu pipes up in Chu Xia’s defense at that point saying that she’s not that kind of a person.  Xin Wei keeps on whining and protesting though until Man Kui shuts her down by saying all they have to do is check the CCTV.  That’s when Xin Wei finally gives up.  As the others walk away, Man Kui takes Chu Xia’s hand and asks her, “Are you okay?”  The scene ends with Qi Lu looking on at his past and present together.

Chen Chuan chases Xin Wei down and tells her he wants to talk to her.  She tells him to go away, and he observes that she still has a bad temper and hasn’t changed one bit.  Xin Wei retorts that he also hasn’t changed and is still the type to like to chase after people.  That’s when Chen Chuan tells her it’s not like that and asks her how many times he has to tell her that it wasn’t his fault; it was the other woman who tried to frame him.  Xin Wei just scoffs and points out that in the end, it was him who got kicked out, not her.  Chen Chuan asks her if she can’t be reasonable.  She takes issue with that and suggests that he’s the one who’s not being reasonable, reminding him that when he entered Si Di Lan, she told him to fixate on An Chu Xia and get her away from Qi Lu’s side.  But Chen Chuan tells her that he never agreed to that.

Xiao Nan witnesses the entire conversation between Chen Chuan and Xin Wei.  It’s only after Xiao Nan walks away in shock that we hear Chen Chuan tell Xin Wei that she’d better stop pestering Chu Xia or else she’ll have to be responsible for the consequences.  Xin Wei just laughs at him.  When he asks her why she’s laughing, she observes while walking away that even though he’s fallen in love with Chu Xia, he’ll never beat out Qi Lu.

Outside Xiao Nan flags down Chen Chuan with Chu Xia in tow and accuses him of being a double-crossing, ungrateful person.  When Chu Xia tells him that she was just dragged there and doesn’t know what’s going on, Xiao Nan tells her it’s okay because she’s determined to reveal him for who he really is.  That’s when she tells Chu Xia that the only reason he became close with her was because he was sent by Xin Wei to be her spy.  When both Chen Chuan and Chu Xia react with surprise, Xiao Nan tells him that she overheard everything just now.  Chen Chuan starts to explain to his side of the story, but they’re clearly talking about two different things.  Xiao Nan’s talking about him being Xin Wei’s spy and Chen Chuan thinks she’s talking about the part she overheard of him getting kicked out of school.  He explains that back then, there was this girl who framed him and in the end he was the one who got kicked out even though he was the innocent party.  When Xiao Nan asks if that means he isn’t really Xin Wei’s spy, he finally confesses that Xin Wei is his paternal cousin.  Both Chu Xia and Xiao Nan couldn’t be more surprised.  When he asks, “Have I never mentioned that before?” they’re both like, “No!”  Xiao Nan then remembers he and Xin Wei have different last names, and Chen Chuan explains that Xin Wei uses her maternal last name but their fathers are in fact brothers.  They just don’t really have much to do with one another.

Chen Chuan then tells them that given that he’s revealed this much, he might as well confess.  Chu Xia asks, “Confess?” and he just nods his head before climbing on top of a water fountain to confess his feelings for her.  This is, of course, witnessed by Qi Lu.  Chu Xia, for her own part, just pushes him into the water.  But Qi Lu throws away the present he had for her anyway.

Qi Lu and Chu Xia are in the car when her phone rings.  She takes it out to see who’s calling her but silences the phone.  Qi Lu tells her to answer it.  “Are you angry?” she asks him.  He denies it, asking her why he would be mad.  That’s when she throws his earlier words back at him about how American researchers have shown that when people are angry they’ll grow freckles, etc.  He responds, “So you did understand.”

Chu Xia then tells him that in actuality she doesn’t really know what’s going on with Chen Chuan either and that he just suddenly started confessing his feelings towards her.  Even though Chu Xia wants to keep on explaining, Qi Lu cuts her off and tells her he doesn’t want to hear anymore and she doesn’t need to bother explaining anymore.  (Someone is obviously jealous!)  That’s when Lao Han, the butler, cuts in telling Qi Lu that he shouldn’t be like this and should just give her the present he prepared.  Chu Xia is very interested by this comment but Qi Lu tells her it’s nothing and that Lao Han should stop meddling in his business.  Lao Han then explains to Chu Xia that after the last time she and Qi Lu argued, he really regretted it and thus went to buy her a present as a form of apology.  Chu Xia says, “Really?” and asks Qi Lu where the present is, but he just swats her hand away and says, “I threw it away.”  When she says, “You threw it away?” he says, “Of course, that’s what you do with useless things: throw it away.”

It’s night time at the Han household and Chu Xia follows Qi Lu into his room.  When he asks her why she’s there, she tells him she’s there to put on his medicine.  He calls her stupid and she just notes that he’s cursing at people again and asks if he wants to have another fight.  He then tells her, “It’s not that big of a wound.  Won’t it be okay in just a few days?”  Chu Xia puts down her first aid kit and starts to walk away.  He asks her where she’s going and she answers, “You won’t die anyway so I’m leaving.  I still have homework I haven’t finished.”  Qi Lu pulls her back and so she picks up the first aid kit again.  That’s when he coughs and hands her a small box.  When she opens it and sees what’s inside, she asks him, “Didn’t you say you threw it away?”

“I didn’t.”

“You just said in the car that you threw it away.  Butler Han can be my witness.”

“Oh.  You remembered incorrectly.”

“Thanks.”

“I just said you must’ve have remembered incorrectly.  Otherwise why would I… what did you say?”

“Han Qi Lu, thank you.  I really like it.”

Someone looks really happy with her response.  Qi Lu then asks her if she likes Chen Chuan, and she responds, “Am I blind?”

Looking even happier now, he tells Chu Xia to move in closer.  Then he leans in and kisses her on the cheek!  Chu Xia asks him, “What are you doing?!”  As she runs out of his room, Qi Lu’s mother watches happily.  She asks Chu Xia if she’s not going to put medicine on Qi Lu anymore and Chu Xia responds that he won’t die.  His mother watches her walk off while laughing and says, “Son, you’re the best!”

Back in his bedroom, Qi Lu muses to himself, “Lao Han was finally right this time.”  We then see in a flashback that Qi Lu went back and picked the box out of the trash can.  He then finishes with, “Girls really do need to be pursued.”

It’s a new day at school and this time the rumor mill is centered around Chen Chuan and how he’s the son of a big company boss, which basically means he’s the equivalent of a prince.  The rumor mill then continues on to discuss how he and Xin Wei are relatives and their families cover different industries.  This time Wan Zi faints when she overhears the gossip.  Back in Class B, the classmates are also discussing the news such that when Chen Chuan enters the room, they immediately start to kowtow towards him.  Chen Chuan tries to ask Xiao Nan why everyone’s acting the way they are, but she just takes issue with him about having his hidden his background this entire time.

Chu Xia enters the room then and after he calls out to her, she asks him to follow her outside because she has something to say to him.  Basically, she tells him that even though she knows what she’s about to say will hurt him, she has to say it anyway.  She then tells him that even though they haven’t known each other long, she’s come to like his style and explains how his personality suits her.  But, friends, she tells him.  That’s all he is to her.  When she asks him if he understands, he says he does.  Just as she’s telling him that she’s relieved to hear he understands, he takes her for a spin and basically tells her that even though he heard her reject him, he’s going to continue pursuing her.  That’s because everyone says that the first time a girl is confessed to, their first reaction is always one of rejection.  Even the secret book [that Feng Shao gave him] says so.  Clearly frustrated, Chu Xia again tells him that the two of them will never be.  But Chen Chuan just smiles and says, the secret book also guessed that she would say that.  Whenever girls say they don’t like someone that means they like someone and when they say it will never happen, that means it will definitely happen.  Chu Xia asks him what sort of unreliable books has he been reading.  When he tells her to guess, she just steps on his foot and kicks at him.  As she walks away she reminds him, “I’ve told you before.  I hate people who talk too much!”

The students walk out with balls and in the middle of the trees is that creepy person in the white raincoat again.  We then see the nurse hanging up pictures of said creepy person in the white raincoat as she tries to figure out who he might be.  She makes a circle on one of the pictures and says, “It was like this?  That’s not good.”  And episode ends.

I really want the leads to get together already! Yeah, I'm being ridiculously impatient. :D Obviously they'll have to jump through a few hoops yet but still that scene in S2E8 with both on different sides of the door was quite lovely. They thanked each other and apologized ever so civilly. It's obvious to even Blind Freddy that they both like each other but other people keep getting in the way. So many interruptions and disruptions. Qiliu's old flame is obviously going to be yet another obstacle... it's not as if there isn't already a scheming member of the harem already.

Qilu's mum reminds me ever so much of Naoki's mother in ItaKiss. She's so supportive of Chuxia and is so obviously rooting for the two of them to be married. LOL. I still can't get over how early the two leads got married in ItaKiss.

I like the way Qilu puts himself on the line for Chuxia over and over again. When he asked her to be his girlfriend, I really wanted her to say yes... but no response. Drats!

I have no idea why this show isn't subbed or subbed so slowly because this is precisely the kind of show international fans love. Maybe it's the relatively unknown cast.

Master Devil, Season 2

Episode 5 Recap

Spoiler

The students gather around Feng Shao to pick out balls for their next class.  Chu Xia is surprised to see that he really came to her school, but he tells her he had to come after promising her mother that he’d watch over her.  Xiao Nan points out though that credit belongs with her as, had it not been for her, Ma Teacher wouldn’t have agreed to giving Feng Shao hold a part-time job at their school.  As Feng Shao warns the girls against Gao Gan and other weird suspicious people who’ve been hanging around their school lately, Chen Chuan arrives.  Chu Xia is desperate to avoid Chen Chuan and cuts off Feng Shao by reminding him she can take care of herself.

When Xiao Nan asks if she’s really planning on not giving Chen Chuan any attention anymore, Chu Xia tells her that’s not the case.  She just hasn’t figured out how to face him.  Xiao Nan tells her to not consider her feelings because she doesn’t like him anymore.  Chu Xia reassures her though that they are nothing more than friends.  Xiao Nan then asks after Qi Lu and says, “How do you consider him?”  Before Chu Xia can answer, Man Kuai interrupts to ask if she can join them.

Man Kuai tells Chu Xia that she can tell Yuan Yuan Jie (Qi Lu’s mother) really likes her, and that Qi Lu really takes care of her as well.  She then adds that she doesn’t have any other meaning by saying that, she just hopes that they can forgive her since she considers them to be part of her family.  The ball goes flying and Xiao Nan asks if Man Kuai will go fetch it for them.  It’s obvious that Xiao Nan tossed the ball on purpose because she immediately starts to warn Chu Xia against her.  “Don’t get too close to her.”  Xiao Nan reminds her that Man Kuai and Qi Lu have a past, so who knows what she’s really after.  When Chu Xia isn’t willing to think so ill of Man Kuai, Xiao Nan reminds her of what Xin Wei’s like.  Chu Xia, to Xiao Nan’s frustration, merely points out that you can’t paint two people with the same paint brush.  Man Kuai returns.

On the other side of the yard, Feng Shao and Chen Chuan are holding their own conference.  Chen Chuan returns Feng Shao’s book to him saying that he’s read it all.  He also adds that he thinks Chu Xia has feelings for him, she just hasn’t admitted it to herself yet.  Feng Shao says that’s good to hear as he’s got his hopes pinned on him.  This creeps Chen Chuan out a little as he wonders why Feng Shao is always treating him well.  He then tells Feng Shao that he doesn’t swing that way.  Feng Shao is just as horrified by the suggestion, and says he also doesn’t swing that way.  He then explains that the reason he’s rooting for Chen Chuan is because he doesn’t like Qi Lu who’s selfish, arrogant, and crazy.  He prefers Chen Chuan’s personality and figures that the sooner Chu Xia and Chen Chuan can get together, the sooner she can leave the Han household.  Chen Chuan digs this idea.

Going back to the girls, Chu Xia sends the ball flying behind her.  As she runs to chase down the ball, she ends up in the middle of the trees where the creeper is lurking.  The creepy person reaches out and just as he’s about to tap her on the shoulder, the nurse takes him out with a needle.  Chu Xia turns around and screams.

The creeper turns out to be You Tian Teacher.  He’s taken back to the infirmary where he eats a lot of ramen.  Watching him, Chen Chuan can hardly believe that this is the teacher Xiao Nan used to rave about.  When Chu Xia asks him how long it’s been since he returned, he says it’s been a while.  Chu Xia wonders why he didn’t say anything.  It’s been a while since he’s returned any of her letters apparently, and she’s been worried.  You Tian Teacher tells her he’s been busy lately, so busy that he forget.  When the nurse asks him why he’s dressed as he is, he says that lately, he’s been researching different behavioral reactions for inspiration.  When she asks him if he was the pervert she saw hanging around two days ago, he replies in the negative.  When Chu Xia asks him how long he plans on staying this time, he says first that he’s going to stay for as long as he can, before correcting himself and saying that he doesn’t have any current plans to leave.  Chu Xia is excited to hear this because that means he can come back as their teacher.  When he points out the principal probably wouldn’t agree, Chen Chuan says maybe he can get his dad to pull some strings.  This makes Chu Xia really happy to hear.

Back at the Han Household, Qi Lu, Chu Xia, and Jiang Yuan Yuan are having a meal.  His mother asks what’s wrong with Qi Lu, and Chu Xia just shakes her head.  Jiang Yuan Yuan then tells her that she heard her teacher, You Tian Teacher, returned.  Chu Xia says she and Xiao Nan have been discussing how to throw him a ‘welcome back’ party.  When Jiang Yuan Yuan hears they still haven’t found a place to hold the party, she tells them to have it at their house.  Although Chu Xia’s surprised by the offer, Jiang  Yuan Yuan tells her to absolutely invite all her friends and classmates.  After all, she knows the teacher too and thinks it’ll be lots of fun.  When she asks Qi Lu if he also thinks it’s a good idea, he just answers that he doesn’t have any objections.  The matter thus decided, Jiang Yuan Yuan tells Lao Han to start making preparations for the party.

That night, Qi Lu lays in his bed staring at his necklace, as always.  He puts it away and goes to sleep.

The next day at school, Class B is excited to welcome You Tian Teacher back to their classroom.  When the students share how happy they are to see him again after never having expected to do so, You Tian Teacher tells them that he never expected to be so warmly welcomed back.  He also tells them that all thanks and appreciation should go to Chen Chuan since it was he who helped him get his job back.  As Chen Chuan basks in the glow of everyone’s applause, next to him, Jian Ren mutters that it’s all his father’s fault that he doesn’t have any money (implying that Chen Chuan’s so lucky to have all his connections due to his father’s wealth).

You Tian Teacher then announces that the Literature and Arts teacher just gave him their report cards from the last exam.  He calls up Jian Ren to help distribute them.  Chu Xia gets hers and her face morphs from a smile to resignation.  Next to her, Xiao Nan looks at her own report card and comments that who would’ve thought that even though she’s not good in any of the other subjects, she’s actually pretty good at flower arrangements.  She then asks Chu Xia what’s wrong.  Chu Xia just tells her that it’s all over and hands her report card over so Xiao Nan can see for herself.  That’s where we see that in all other subjects like Little Drama Creation, Art appreciation, Flower arrangement, Music, and Tea, Chu Xia has earned either a B+, A, or A+.  But in Ballroom Dancing, she receives a D.  Xiao Nan can hardly believe the grade herself as she reminds Chu Xia that it was she herself who picked that class and thought she had skills.  Chu Xia agrees.  She thought she did have skills and didn’t think the class would be that hard, but as it turns out, she’s completely lacking in any sort of coordination.

Chen Chuan tells Chu Xia that he can help her.  He says that when he studied abroad, he was even given the title of Dancing King.  Xiao Nan simply cuts him off by telling him she’s not willing to believe anything he has to say anymore.

Chen Chuan and Feng Shao are back to having one of their conferences.  This time Feng Shao tells Chen Chuan that he was right.  They can’t let Chu Xia keep going on as she is and says they have to find a way to help her.  Chen Chuan asks how.  Whenever he offers to help, she won’t let him.  Feng Shao calls him stupid and asks, “If she doesn’t let you help, are you not going to find another way to help her?”  Chen Chuan thinks Feng Shao is suggesting that he should go bribe the Literature and Arts teacher and tells him that his dad would kill him if he tried to do that.  Feng Shao would never suggest such a thing though, he was just trying to suggest that Chen Chuan find someone to help her (like a tutor).  Chen Chuan likes this idea and immediately runs off to put the wheels in motion.

The nurse runs down You Tian Teacher in the hallway.  She wants to know why he’s been hiding.  He says he hasn’t been hiding, but she points out that he’s been acting weird ever since he returned.  She demands to know what’s going on.  He tells her there’s nothing going on and once again denies that the nurse ever saw him on campus other than the day he was caught.  She then asks him, “Why do you keep following Chu Xia?”

It’s night time and Qi Lu is looking at the stars through his telescope when he hears a noise.  He looks up and then goes back to doing what he was doing until he hears a yelp.  This time he gets up to investigate.  When he follows the noise, he discovers Chu Xia.  He asks her why she’s creeping around scaring people and not sleeping.  She tells him to mind his own business, but he just keeps walking over to her anyway.  When he turns on the light, he discovers her book on waltzes.  “Are you learning how to dance?”  She grabs the book out his hands and he just asks behind her, “Why are you learning this?”  That’s when she confesses she didn’t pass her class and has to retake the test.

“Are you happy now?”

“I’ll teach you.”

“Huh?”

Qi Lu puts down the stereo and turns on the music.  “Come on, let’s get started.”

“Won’t you disturb Yuan Yuan Jie, Lao Han Butler, and the others?”

“If they were going to be woken up, they would’ve been woken up by you already.  Don’t be scared.  Come on.”

He bows and holds out his hand.  After she takes his hands, he tells her to follow his steps.  Chu Xia has trouble following though and steps on his feet.  When she steps on his feet for the nth time, she apologizes.  That’s when he says dryly, “Now I know what all those earlier noises were from.”

“I’m not going to learn anymore.”

Qi Lu grabs her arms and tells her to not be so impatient.  “This method definitely won’t work.  We have to change the method.”  That’s when he tells her to take off her shoes, as he takes off his own.  “Take off your shoes and then stand on my feet.  I’ll carry you and dance.”

“Can I?”

“Take them off already!  Don’t you want to learn?”

Chu Xia takes off her shoes and steps on his feet, as instructed.  He offers his hands once more and she again takes his hand.  [He mumbles something and this part isn’t close captioned, so I can’t verify, but if I heard him correctly, he says, “Chu Xia, you’re really heavy,” which is why she shoves at him.]  “Come on,” he says, and then he takes her dancing around the balcony.

The next morning, Chu Xia enters her classroom with panda eyes.  Chen Chuan calls out to her, but she ignores him and walks to her desk and puts her head down.  When he keeps nagging after her, wondering if she’s okay, she sits up and tells him to stop bothering her and let her sleep before slumping back down over the table.

The gossips start up again.  The first pair of gossips share that An Chu Xia was so afraid of being compared against Xiang Man Kui that she fainted.  The second pair of gossips share that it wasn’t just that she fainted, she also had to be hospitalized.  Who asked Xiang Man Kui to be so perfect that there’s nothing to criticize?  The third pair of gossips pity An Chu Xia, but then change the subject by asking what they should wear to the dance.

Chu Xia meets with You Tian Teacher who thanks her and Xiao Nan for working so hard on his behalf, but then tells her they should forget the welcome party.  Chu Xia tells him they can’t.  First of all, he’s been away for so long they haven’t even had a chance to have a proper conversation.  Second, this party is being planned by Yuan Yuan Jie herself.  There’s no way he can refuse, she tells him.  You Tian Teacher responds that the only problem is it’s too easy for things to get exposed.  Chu Xia doesn’t understand what he’s trying to say, but he quickly covers things up by agreeing to go along with the party.

With the matter of the welcome party settled, You Tian Teacher asks her if she has anything else she wants to talk to him about.  Chu Xia asks him if he knows how much the nurse worried about him while he was away.  Chu Xia tells him she’s not sure if she should be revealing this to him, but on the other hand, she also feels like there are some things that shouldn’t be handled by one person alone.  Instead, they should be brought out into the open so that everyone can participate in the discussion.  Doesn’t he agree?

You Tian Teacher tells her he understands, and that he thanks them as well.  He says that lately, he has in fact run into a spot of trouble, but asks for some time so he can think things over.  When he’s figured out how best to tell them what’s going on, he will.  Chu Xia agrees, says she won’t make any more demands on him, and then tells him she’s returning to the classroom.

@40somethingahjumma, I'm impatient too!  And I'm only on ep 5!  :joy:

It's obvious though that they're interested in each other.  I think that's why we're so impatient.  If they like each other, we want them to be together!  Honestly, there are times I just want to lock them in a room and not let them out until they've got things sorted out.  There is so much insecurity though, and that insecurity is letting other people drive wedges (or hoops, if you will) in between.  Sigh.

I just keep telling myself: no pain, no gain.  That's how I bear it. And plus there'll be a happy ending.  (RIGHT?!)

Thanks for the recaps! Please continue them when you can.

I bingewatched the first season even without the subs and I sort of got the gist of the story after reading the summary beforehand and having watched many similar dramas and read shoujo manga. I was frustrated with the cliff-hanger at the end (when the ex came back) but very glad that Season 2 is already here.

Good to see more people climb on board this thread and chiming in. :)

@themarchioness -- I have to remind myself constantly that they're teenagers. They're the picture of civility one minute and then they're back to bickering the next. :D

Qilu, I think, knows what he wants. He's moved on and really does care deeply for Chuxia. But she's holding back for some reason. Perhaps she feels her position acutely... their difference in status, wealth etc. I have really enjoyed those scenes where he's helping her and protecting her. How can a girl not fall for a guy who is willing to get beaten up and lose a leg for her sake.

My thought is that the ex feels entitled to make a play for Qilu's affections because she's never had closure. I imagine she thinks that she is in a position of strength because they have a history. But although she senses that his priorities have changed, she's clinging to that sliver of hope that for old times sake, she might get a foot in the door. Whatever her rationale for taking off without even saying goodbye, I think she's missed the boat. Perhaps it's the lack of maturity on her part that emboldens her. Maybe she's convinced herself that Chuxia is a flash in the pan as far as Qilu is concerned. A passing fancy. She's not yet witnessed the lengths he's willing to go for Chuxia.

Clearly Qilu's priorities have changed because he certainly didn't hesitate to jump into the taxi with Chuxia when she's off investigating a line of inquiry regarding her father.

Master Devil, Season 2

Episode 6 Recap

Spoiler

Chu Xia and Xiao Nan are having a hard time deciding on what to get You Tian Teacher as his welcome home present when Man Kui joins them and asks if there’s anything she can them help with.  She notices they’re trying to pick out a gift for You Tian Teacher and tells them that she knows of some art studios near their school with artwork by new artists and students.  Even though they’re not expensive pieces, there are a lot of good pieces to be found there.  She then shows them some examples online.  Chu Xia points out a few to Xiao Nan that she thinks would be good options.  That’s when Man Kui asks if they’re looking for a welcome home present.  Chu Xia answers in the affirmative and tells her that Yuan Yuan Jie is even planning a party for him at their home.  She invites Man Kui to the party.  When Man Kui asks if she can really come and wonders if Yuan Yuan Jie would like that, Xiao Nan cuts in and tells Chu Xia that if Man Kui has other plans, they really shouldn’t press her.  But Man Kui just says she’ll definitely be there and thanks Chu Xia for the invitation.

After Man Kui leaves, Xiao Nan asks Chu Xia why she’s being so nice.  Chu Xia says since Man Kui helped her with this, they should return the favor by extending the invitation to her.  Xiao Nan doesn’t believe her though and asks if it isn’t because she wants Man Kui and the Han family to make up.  That’s when Chu Xia points out that Man Kui’s having a hard time too.  Xiao Nan tells her that having grown up with her, she knows that she only looks strong on the outside but is actually quite soft-hearted on the inside.  Nevertheless, can she not be such a paragon of virtue at this time?  Chu Xia says she’s not trying to be one and that she knows Xiao Nan is just looking out for her, but she also thinks Man Kui and Xin Wei are two different types of people and that Man Kui’s not a bad person.

It’s the day of the party and everyone (You Tian Teacher, nurse, Xiao Nan, and Man Kui) gathers at the Han household.  Yuan Yuan Jie greets everyone warmly except for Man Kui, while Qi Lu just turns away at the sight of her.

The party gets started with Yuan Yuan Jie announcing that this event was planned entirely by Chu Xia in order to welcome You Tian Teacher back, so everyone should have a good time.  She even tells Lao Han that he should have a seat and not bother serving them today.  You Tian Teacher expresses his thanks everyone for the party.  Chu Xia presents him with his gift, which he clearly likes.  She tells him that she and Xiao Nan were only able to find him that painting with the help of Man Kui, but Yuan Yuan Jie just says that in her opinion, this is all due to Chu Xia having an excellent taste and that’s why she was able to pick a good one.  The nurse also gives You Tian Teacher a present, which prompts Yuan Yuan Jie to whisper and ask Qi Lu what their relationship is.  He answers loudly that he has no idea.

At that moment, Chen Chuan arrives and says he heard a party was going on for You Tian Teacher.  He trusts that no one will object to him joining them, and Qi Lu responds that even if they did object, it would be too late for that.  Chen Chuan shoves his way around the table until he’s sitting next to Chu Xia.  This prompts Qi Lu to pull her chair a little closer to him, but Chen Chuan just responds in kind and next thing you know they’re both pulling her chair and moving their own closer to her.  He gives Chu Xia a bouquet of flower and tells everyone to not pay him any attention and to carry on.  Jian Yuan Yuan follows Lao Han to the sidebar where she asks who that kid is.  Lao Han tells her that he’s the son of Jiang Hai, the head of the Jiang Shi Group.  Lao Han then adds that he’s skilled at chasing after woman.

Back at the table, Chen Chuan peels a shrimp for Chu Xia.  Before he can actually give it to her, Qi Lu intercepts, taking the plate and handing over his.  Qi Lu then inspects the shrimp and comments on shoddy work Chen Chuan did at peeling the shrimp.  He adds that Chu Xia is allergic to seafood, and picks up vegetables with his chopstick, which he then shoves into Chu Xia’s mouth and tells her to eat.  He eats the shrimp himself and says, “Thanks,” to Chen Chuan.  Chen Chuan responds that if he wants to eat shrimp, he can peel it himself.  But Qi Lu tells him that he likes the shrimp that Chen Chuan peels for him.  The boys get into an obvious pissing match, and Yuan Yuan Jie tells Lao Han that this is not good.  Lao Han, in turn, warns her that Qi Lu has run into some serious competition this time.  Thinking quickly, she tells him it’s okay because she has an idea, and asks him to follow her.

It’s now evening and everyone is sitting outside drinking wine.  You Tian Teacher and the nurse are sitting off to the side.  He thanks her for her gift, and she tells him not to bother.  She’s noticed that ever since he’s returned, all he ever says is, “I’m sorry,” and “It’s not a problem.”  She says that even if he doesn’t think it’s annoying, it’s become annoying to her.  She also tells him that she knows he’s hiding a secret from her, but it’s okay if he doesn’t want to confide in her because she’s thought things through and recognizes that they’re not particularly close or anything like that, so he doesn’t have to report back to her about everything.  You Tian Teacher protests that it’s not like that, and that he wants to tell her.  In fact, he’s been wanting to tell her that he actually came back to China for a specific reason.  He just . . .

You Tian Teacher’s comments get cut off before he can complete it by Yuan Yuan Jie who announces that the main event of the evening has arrived.  She invites all the children to pair up and dance.  Qi Lu walks over to his mother and asks if there’s something wrong with her.  His mom just says, “What?  Wasn’t Chu Xia practicing very hard a few days ago to make up for some class or another?  Weren’t you also practicing very hard?  Now’s the perfect time for everyone to witness the progress you’ve made.”  Chu Xia asks her how she knew about all that and Yuan Yuan Jie tells her, “Don’t concern yourself with how I knew it.  Hurry!”

Qi Lu announces that he’s heading in, but quickly turns back when he hears Chen Chuan inviting Chu Xia to a dance.  He shoves at Chen Chuan, tells him to go away, and says, “I’ll do it.”  Chen Chuan pushes back and says Qi Lu is acting shamelessly.  Qi Lu says, “Who said I wasn’t going to dance.  She’s living at my house, if I dance with her what’s wrong with that?”  Yuan Yuan Jie agrees from the sidelines, as Qi Lu tells him once more to go away.  He then tells Chu Xia, “I won!  I’ll do it.”

Chu Xia and Qi Lu start to dance.  From somewhere next to them, Chen Chuan sighs that it looks like he won’t have to find a dance instructor for her anymore.  As they dance, Qi Lu tells her that she’s doing a pretty good job.

“Really?”

“Looks like my teaching methods worked.

“I just knew you’d find a way to turn things back around to compliment yourself.”

“I’m being very sincere here when I compliment you.”

You Tian Teacher leans over to the nurse and suggests that they also dance.  She’s about to take his hand when Lao Han arrives with someone looking for You Tian Teacher.  The new arrival sees You Tian Teacher and calls out, “Honey!  Honey!  I’ve finally found you, Honey!”  Everyone gapes as the new arrival tells You Tian Teacher that she’s so happy to have finally found him.

With everyone gathered around You Tian Teacher, Chu Xia starts to ask him who the other woman is when she pipes up that she’s Nancy Cumberbatch, but you can call her Crystal.  She’s You Tian Teacher’s fiancée.  When Yuan Yuan Jie wonders how she can speak Mandarin so well, she explains that her mother is Chinese.  Yuan Yuan Jie says, “Ah, that explains it.”  Chu Xia tells Yuan Yuan Jie that’s not the main point.  The main point is this woman has announced herself to be You Tian Teacher’s fiancée!  That’s when Crystal tells them how she and You Tian Teacher fell in love at first sight.  Specifically, they met on a dark and cloudy Sunday after she’d gotten into a fight with her father and her spirits were low.  She was outside walking around by herself when a thief stole her purse.  That’s when You Tian Teacher appeared from across the way and helped her get her purse back.  She then tells them he’s a wonderful man and the best man she’s ever known, and that had it not been for him, her purse would’ve been stolen.

Qi Lu who’s been muttering over her last name all this time asks suddenly, “What’s your relationship with Jerome Cumberbatch?”  It turns out he’s her father.  When she asks Qi Lu if he knows him, he says they’ve met once.  Chu Xia asks who Jerome Cumberbatch is, and Qi Lu tells everyone that he’s one of the top ten rich and powerful people listed on Forbes’s world rankings list.  Everyone is greatly impressed and congratulates You Tian Teacher.  The nurse leaves at that point, and Crystal tells You Tian Teacher that they should leave too.  After that, one by one, everyone else takes their leave.

Back at school, Xiao Nan is with Chen Chuan and Feng Shao.  Feng Shao asks her what’s wrong with him when he was fine just the day before.  Xiao Nan explains that the night before, he insisted on joining the party at the Han house and in the end, had to watch Chu Xia and Qi Lu dance together.  Xiao Nan wonders how Chen Chuan even knew about the gathering and asks Feng Shao if he was the one who told him about it.  At first he tells her no, but then he admits that he may have let slip a few details and Chen Chuan then figured out the rest for himself.  It then occurs to Xiao Nan that the two boys seem to have a pretty good relationship these days, and she wonders how that happened.  Feng Shao tells her it’s a man’s thing and she wouldn’t understand.  Xiao Nan just rolls her eyes before thinking of another question.  She tells Feng Shao that she overheard Chen Chuan saying something about wanting to find Chu Xia a teacher, and wants to know if he knows anything about that.  Feng Shao explains that after Chu Xia failed her ballroom dancing class, she wouldn’t let anyone tutor her.  At the same time Chen Chuan was afraid she’d have too much pressure handling it on her own, so he thought to find her a dance instructor on the sly to help.  He asks Xiao Nan to not say anything about it because Chen Chuan had wanted it to be a surprise.  Xiao Nan says it looks like Chen Chuan really cares about Chu Xia, and Feng Shao agrees.  Xiao Nan then promises to not say anything.  Her phone rings just then; it’s Ma Teacher, who calls her over for a meeting.

After Xiao Nan leaves, Feng Shao pokes at Chen Chuan until he wakes up.  Chen Chuan starts to cry, “Chu Xia doesn’t want me!” and embraces Feng Shao.

Qi Lu runs into You Tian Teacher at the top of one of the school buildings.  When he asks You Tian Teacher what he’s doing there, he says he’s getting some fresh air.  His phone rings and it’s Crystal, but he doesn’t answer.

“How come you’re not answering the phone?”

“I haven’t yet figured out how to face her.”

“Is there something wrong with Crystal?”

“She’s perfect.”

“Then what’s wrong?”

“I don’t know what I’m thinking either.  Why am I turning a blind eye to the happiness that’s right before me?  Instead, I keep holding onto a person whom I don’t even have the guts to confess to.”

“Are you talking about then nurse?”

“You figured it out?”

“Please, it’s so obvious.”

You Tian Teacher laughs.  “Even other people can figure it out.  Why can’t she?”

“What about Crystal then?  How do you feel about her?”

“I don’t have any feelings.”  You Tian Teacher then explains that you have feelings for a person when, whether it’s love or hate, there’s still a place in your heart that belongs to that person and you can’t let go.

Qi Lu and Chu Xia are sitting at a café.  She asks him why he suddenly thought to invite her out for coffee.  He says that it’s her who invited him.  When she asks him how that is, he explains that there’s someone who passed her make-up exam, so shouldn’t she throw a thank you banquet for her tutor?  She smiles and says if he wants a party it’s no big deal, until he orders another fruit dessert.  That’s when she reminds him that this is an expensive place.  He asks her what’s wrong and if her allowance isn’t enough.  She tells him that’s his family’s money and that later on, she still has to pay them back.

Her words trigger a memory.  Qi Lu tells Man Kui, “Whatever you want, the Han family can give you.”

“That’s your family’s.  Not mine.”

“Have you never treated that place like your own home?”

“It’s not like that, Qi Lu.  What I owe you, I have to pay back.”

Chu Xia waves her hand at him and asks what’s wrong.  He says, “Nothing.”  She tells him the dessert he ordered has arrived, so he should hurry and eat up.  She then observes that his mood is really susceptible to change and hard to understand.

Man Kui arrives and asks if she can sit between them.  Chu Xia tells her she can.  Man Kui then notices the tiramisu in front of them and says, “Qi Lu, this is one of your favorite types of cakes.  Your taste hasn’t change.  That’s true.  How can a person’s habit change just by saying they want it to change?  Qi Lu, do you remember…?”  Qi Lu drops his spoon, and Chu Xia asks what he’s doing.  He says he’s full and walks away.

Man Kui acts all crestfallen and Chu Xia tells her to not to pay any attention to him, and to not be too upset.  Man Kui says it’s okay, she’s just really can’t tolerate it anymore.  She then apologizes for interrupting their afternoon tea.  Chu Xia tells her not to worry about that.  Man Kui observes that it turns out, it doesn’t matter how angry Qi Lu gets, he seems unaffected by her.  [Or something like that.   I’m having a difficult time trying to explain what she’s saying there.]  Chu Xia cuts her off and says, “He’s just crazy.  Let me tell you, every day he’s yells at me and now I’m used to it.  Honestly.  Don’t pay him any attention.  He’s crazy.  Don’t cry.”

Feng Shao and Chen Chuan are hanging out in the sports equipment room again.  As usual Chen Chuan is lamenting over Chu Xia, wonders if she really likes Qi Lu.  He points out that she was willing to learn how to dance with Qi Lu, but wouldn’t let him teach her.”  Feng Shao doesn’t think this necessarily means anything.  He thinks Qi Lu only has an advantage because of their living situation.  Chen Chuan says he can’t help that, but Feng Shao disagrees.  He says Chen Chuan and Chu Xia just need to spend more time together, and suggests that he invite her to a place where there are mountains, water, and Wi-Fi.  Just the two of them.  Then they’d make fast progress in their relationship.  This gives Chen Chuan an idea, as his family has a vacation retreat.  But then he wonders if Chu Xia will agree.  Feng Shao tells him that’ll have to depend on his efforts.

Chu Xia is walking by herself when Xiao Nan catches up to her and asks how come she’s walking by herself and didn’t wait for her.  As Chu Xia keeps walking without a word, Xiao Nan asks her what’s wrong.  Chu Xia tells her it’s nothing, but Xiao Nan asks if it has to do with Qi Lu again.  Then she says, “Actually, I was thinking.  Maybe you can consider Jiang Chen Chuan.”

Just then, the man in question jumps out at them from nowhere.  He says he finally found her and she asks him what he wants.  He hesitates and she tells him that if he’s got something to say, he should just say it.  He tells her he wants to invite her over to his family’s vacation retreat, but she tells him she won’t go.  When he tries to ask her again, she gets really mad and says, “I said I won’t go, which means I’m not going.  You’re so annoying!”

Chen Chuan walks away dejected and Xiao Nan gets mad at Chu Xia, telling her she went overboard.

“What’s wrong?”

“How could you treat Chen Chuan that way?  Did you know?  He was afraid that because of your make-up exam you might feel too much pressure, so he wanted to find you a teacher.  But you?  How did you treat him just now?”

“I don’t know.”

“I really don’t understand you.  You act all devoted towards Xiang Man Kui, why can’t you take a good look at the people next to you who are actually treating you well?”

“I’m sorry.”

“You don’t have to apologize to me.  The person you need to apologize to isn’t me.”  With that, Xiao Nan walks away and the episode ends.
