No vacation for ‘Drinking Solo’ cast

The cast of drama series “Drinking Solo” will not go on a vacation after all, according to a source from the broadcaster Wednesday.

The source said it was because they had been unable to coordinate the schedules of the cast members. 

“We are seeking an alternative to the vacation,” a source was quoted as saying by local media. “We may grant them each a vacation or monetary rewards.”

The cast had planned to leave for Danang, Vietnam on Nov. 6.

“Drinking Solo” starred actors Ha Seok-jin and Gong Myung, as well as actress Park Ha-seon. It revolved around the lives of private institution teachers and students preparing for the entrance exam to become public servants. The series aired until Oct. 25.

Park Ha Sun to join Kang Ha Neul and Park Seo Joon in new mystery film 'Young Police'

Park Ha Sun has been chosen to play the female lead in a new mystery film, 'Young Police'!

 

Previously, it was announced that Park Seo Joon and Kang Ha Neul will be playing college students studying to become policemen. Today, it's revealed that actress Park Ha Sun will be joining the cast as their sunbae in the police academy. 

 

'Young Police' tells the story of two police academy students attempting to solve a kidnapping case that happened in front of their eyes. The filming for the new movie is expected to start at the end of 2016.

Park Ha-Sun is cast in movie “Young Cop” starring Park Seo-Joon & Kang Ha-Neul. For the movie, Park Ha-Sun will play Joo-Hee. She attends the police academy and is a senior to new cadets played by Park Seo-Joon & Kang Ha-Neul. When she trains her juniors she is strict and cold, but she has a warm heart.

Filming for “Young Cop” begins before the end of this year.

Interesting albeit a little disappointing that HSJ seems to take himself out of the equation in the event of a Season 2. If he feels that there is little more to elaborate with regards to his character, it means then that to him, they have said all there is to say about JJS and PHN's relationship by the season finale. While it does end on a positive, hopeful note, I would have hoped to see more of them should there be a sequel. Ah well.

On the other hand, there is definitely so much more to see in terms of the Noryangjin idiots, and that would certainly be something to look forward to. I hope for more cameos as well... and of course how can we not have a parade of Prof. Min's impersonations? Inconceivable!

Last but not least... why why why was Key's cover of Drunken Truth not in the compilation soundtrack?

[Allkpop News] 'Drinking Alone' producer commits suicide + family preparing a legal battle against CJ E&M / tvN

Producer Lee who worked for tvN's drama, 'Drinking Alone' has reportedly committed suicide.

According to the reports, the producer was found dead in a hotel in Gangnam on October 26 at around 4 A.M.

Producer Lee had joined CJ E&M / tvN as a production producer back in January 2016 and worked on 'Drinking Alone' as an assistant producer. His sudden death after not even a year into working at a large company raises many questions.

It has also been revealed that Lee's family recently met up with people from CJ E&M / tvN and demanded the restoration of producer Lee's honor and reputation, and an investigative committee -- including two congressmen, student union, lawyers and others -- have been formed.

According to an acquaintance of the family, the family did not accept CJ staff members at the funeral but allowed about 2,000 Seoul University students to pay their respects.

The letter Producer Lee wrote before his death has not been released to the public, and the family has stated, "Even if we don't win, we will fight against CJ...We thank all the people who are standing by us for [Lee's] restoration of reputation and honor."

It is not clear what happened between the producer and CJ E&M / tvN, but the family is preparing for a legal battle.

"He killed himself at the hotel where they held the 'after-party' for 'Drinking Alone'. It is impossible for a fish that usually lives in the cleanest water to survive in waste water. He was someone who was too clean, too good for an abnormal organization."

[Soompi News] “Drinking Solo” PD Commits Suicide, Family Of Deceased Puts Together Team To Investigate CJ E&M

The assistant PD (producing director) of tvN drama “Drinking Alone” has belatedly been revealed to have committed suicide.

On November 10, a source from CJ E&M revealed that PD Lee was discovered dead in a hotel located in Gangnam district on October 26 at 4 a.m. KST. The police are reportedly investigating the death as a suicide.

PD Lee started at CJ E&M just this January, and his sudden death after not even 1 year at the company is raising questions about whether his death was related to his new work environment.

Several acquaintances of PD Lee, a Seoul University graduate, commented, “PD Lee was miserable from receiving unfair treatment at CJ E&M due to his background.”

PD Lee’s family is demanding a close examination into the truth behind his death. According to reports, no CJ representatives visited PD Lee’s funeral altar at the Seoul University Hospital, but approximately 2000 Seoul University students came to offer their condolences. PD Lee’s family has only revealed the portion of his suicide note that is addressed to the family.

According to reports, PD Lee’s family has met with people from CJ E&M and tvN to demand the restoration of PD Lee’s reputation. The family has put together an investigation team composed of 2 members of the National Assembly, a lawyer, among others, and is asking CJ E&M to cooperate with the investigations.

In response to the news about PD Lee’s death, a source from “Drinking Solo” revealed on November 10, “Due to scheduling conflicts with ‘Drinking Solo’ cast members and the death of one of our staff, we have cancelled the reward vacation.”

@Ayame That is truly tragic news  From the lawsuit, seems like work conditions on set or in tvN were a contributing factor to this tragedy. If so, really hope the family gets justice for their loved one, and finds closure amid this difficult time.

Now perhaps it is even more understandable why the reward vacation did not pan out. I do not think any of them would be in any celebratory mood after this tragedy.

tvN Drama “Drinking Solo” In Talks For A Second Season

 

On November 25, a tvN source reported that “Drinking Solo” may be getting a second season.

“We are currently in talks,” the source said. “Nothing has been decided yet.”

One media report had previously stated that the production staff of “Drinking Solo” was getting ready to make plans for a second season in 2017.

“Drinking Solo” starred Ha Seok Jin, Park Ha Sun, Hwang Woo Seul Hye, and Min Jin Woong, as well as SHINee’s Key and DIA’s Jung Chaeyeon, in a romantic comedy about enjoying living (and drinking) on one’s own.

The final episode, which aired last month, garnered 5.020 percent in national viewership ratings.

Although the most recent and possibly the most underrated on the list, tvN’s “Drinking Solo” has quite a loyal following. Written by Myung Soo Hyun and directed by Choi Gyu Sik, “Drinking Solo” is about a group of civil service exam lecturers and students in Noryangjin who, for various reasons, drink alone. With its relatable premise, the drama has become a signature project for Ha Seok Jin and launchedGong Myung, Min Jin Woong, SHINee’s Key, and DIA’s Jung Chaeyeon into a bigger spotlight.

The actors are just as eager for a second season as the viewers. Ha Seok Jin said, “I won’t attach myself to the idea of appearing in a second season, but if I don’t get a call, I would be disappointed.” Meanwhile, Gong Myung said, “If there is a second season, I want to do it. If that happens, I hope I join the civil service and find love, too.”

tvN’s “Drinking Solo” To Come Back With Second Season This Year

According to a tvN source on February 22, the drama “Drinking Solo” will be coming back with its second season in fall and the official meeting about the production will begin next week.

Although anticipation rises for it, the staff has to think about how the second season will differ from the first and yet still have a relation, what it will focus on, and whether or not the actors from season one will all be cast again.

The good news is that the actors from the first season one hope to appear in the second season, and the fans hope for that, too.

“Drinking Solo” was successful in ratings and received positive feedback from the public. The storyline and cultural aspect of the current society made viewers relate to the drama very well. Actors Ha Seok Jin, Park Ha Sun, Gong Myung, SHINee’s Key, and more, were part of a great cast that was praised for their acting.

tvN plans to air season two of the drama some time between September to November this year.

Still on the table is whether the second season will be a continuation or a reboot, which will also determine whether they bring the original cast back. tvN’s drama Drinking Solo is preparing to produce a second season thanks to the support of viewers. The first season, starring Ha Seok-Jin and Park Ha-Sun, was broadcasted last year and received lots of love from the audience.

Chio Gyu Sik PD stated on the 22^nd that they are planning on an autumn premiere, but discussions are still in progress. They need to confirm it with the actors first. Currently, it’s unknown whether all the original actors will appear in the second season, but we can at least be sure that the main leads will remain the same. There’s still a lot of preparations to be done, but tvN plans to air the drama between September and November this year.

The first season of Drinking Solo was very popular, bringing in solid ratings and peaking at 6.3% based on Nielsen Korea. It was a drama that depicted the lives of teachers and students at a very popular private academy, that prepared for civil examinations. Drinking Solo was all about heart and comfort, focusing on the hardships the characters faced in their daily lives. It was a wonderful drama, that was easy to watch and connect with. Drinking Solo was perfect for watching after a long day at work. I’m delighted that we get to see the continuation of this heartwarming story.

Is HSJ supposed to be starring in season 2 or is he going to do a cameo appearance..?

@sava2sava I have the same concerns, seeing that HSJ did mention previously that he thinks there is nothing more to tell with his character arc  Truly hope every single cast returns for Season 2 though - cannot imagine anyone else playing their roles. I guess the other way they might do it is to have alternate storylines, with the some of the main cast just doing a cameo, but I hope it is not the case. I certainly want to see more of JJS and PHN together...  the way their arc concluded still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

Three actors from the popular tvN drama “Drinking Solo” have reunited for a fun night out, showing that they have stayed close friends even after the drama’s conclusion last fall.

Park Ha Sun took to her Instagram account to upload a cute snapshot together with Ha Seok Jin and Min Jin Woong, captioning it, “‘Drinking Solo’ forever! We managed to have a quick meet up despite our busy schedules. I miss everyone who wasn’t able to come because they’re doing well and are busy, [have] strength. See you again.”

 

“Drinking Solo” was a drama about tired college lecturers and students who find their comfort in alcohol. It was recently confirmed that the show would return with a second season this fall, although it is not yet decided if all of the actors would rejoin.

tvN’s “Drinking Solo” Secures New PD And Reveals Plans For Upcoming Second Season

tvN’s second season of “Drinking Solo” will be headed by a new producer.

A source from “Drinking Solo” released the news on March 21, saying, “We are preparing to air the second season sometime during the second half of the year. Han Sung Jae, who was the PD for ‘Rude Miss Young Ae‘ seasons 8-15, will be heading the drama.”

The source also stated that while the PD for the second season is set to be replaced, the writer from the first season will not be replaced. “We are currently in talks with the actors who appeared in the first season,” the source added.

Meanwhile, the first season of “Drinking Solo” stars Ha Seok Jin, Park Ha Sun, Gong Myung, SHINee’s Key, and more!
