I have few rolling eyes moment when I read some chapters, especially when CJD repeated herself that these boys are not attracted to any other male, just to each other. And when Gu Hai was studying the male kamasutra, the translation wrote that is not as if he is interested in male sex. Am sorry, but wtf is that?

Is it just her smart move to get the hetero women to stay tune and not get scared much by the idea of homosexuality? And tried hard to steer the crowd that these boys are straight ( you can see me rolling eyes and one eyebrow up) but they only have desire for each other, and that's why the word pansexual came out?

I have read some discussion pages ago that at least the boys would be bisexual if not gay. If they both were attracted to their previous gfs physically at least. I just somehow feel a bit insulted to read that particular sentence. I mean, what's wrong if they're indeed gay? (The characters I mean). Is it because writing them as pure gay will be a big no no since even the bl themed was banned and maybe if it's pure gay movie of boys in their adolescene coming of age  perhaps a bit too much for the society? If this had been discussed would you please show me where?

well, the answer is yes, lol. i always remind myself that bl is written by straight people for straight people. bl doesnt even qualify as queer literature, its a very unique genre by itself. i recently watched the gaycation documentary on vice (hosted by the lovely and queer ellen page) and they even discussed how the big bl culture in japan can negatively impact the queer community. there are a lot of coming of age stories and movies about gay teenagers around; that's legit queer media. but that's not what addicted is

anyway, this "straight guys go gay" plot is easily the most common bl trope (along with rape...) so when reading bl stories i always gotta suspend my beliefs. i cut cjd some slack though, bc while she wrote that they are not attracted to any other male, they are also no longer attracted to any female (which is better than i can say for some other bl characters who still act like lady killers on the prowl...). hence this "straight man" ended up being celibate for 8 years. so i get why if he's not interested in watching gay porn or seeing/reading anything thats not about bly. i doubt straight/lesbian porn would have perked his interest at that point

although its definitely not uncommon in real life for bi people to identify as straight and think to themselves "its just this one girl/guy...". bc no matter where you come from, the moment you are born you are constantly bombarded with "straightness" as the default, the right way, so when you have the option, why wouldnt you identify as straight? it takes a long time to escape from that

In a recent radio interview, Andy Lau mentioned that he is watching Addicted

Link to the video

Trans from Cantonese > Chinese > English
Translated from Chinese Trans by: 凱怡愛豬鬼

Host: Do you have a habit of watching dramas?Or are there any dramas that you are watching now?
Andy: Yes. I do watch dramas like Descendants of the sun..or Shangyin. Are you watching it?
Host: Huh?
Andy: Shangyin
Host: Shangyin?
Andy:*laugh* nvm, you don't get it.It's a web series, but it got banned.
Host: ohh...
Host 2: What's the name?
Andy: Shangyin, Shangyin, Shangyin
Host2: Ohh..Shangyin

(omg even Andy Lau is watching XD)

Can you put this into context for this poor uninitiated European? Who is Andy Lau and do people listen to him?

I love anyway that this series get promoted!

Btw, did the host of the Vivo interview with JY really say that Addicted had a 100 million hits before it got banned? I only heard 10 million before. But a 100 million! No wonder it became such a big deal.

And wow, how lost I felt at sea without this forum for a few hours...

To accompany you today, a new chapter for the Colour of Life is up!

White and Blue 2: Look at Me too!

https://www.wattpad.com/240695583-the-colours-of-life-white-and-blue-2-look-at-me

Quote

I started this day with extra happiness. Having sweet moments with Jingyu last night and this morning really affected my mood in good way. Too good, actually, to the point that my manager had asked me to wear mask before we went to the studio.

"Why?" I was puzzled at his request.

"Because if your face is brimming with happiness like this, I am sure Huang Jingyu's face is too. Fans will notice that one and one equals two." He explained patiently, like talking to a first year kid.

EDIT: Saw fans asking on weibo "will he buy the unedited DVD?" hahahahaha

Wow, this is something, LOL.

I finally watched Descendants of the Sun and while Addicted lost in every other aspect (funding, cinematography, etc etc), I can say that the chemistry built between JY-ZZ is as sweet as chemistry between SJI-SHK. Sugars! Sugars and sweets and heart cavities!!!

So glad that this forum is back online! What happen? Did the view of gifs from @ximichem and others crashed the system? :P Andy Lau is one of the biggest stars from Hong Kong, he is one of the 4 Heavenly Kings and most popular Chinese celebrity for many many years. This is a big big deal :)

Andy Lau is a SUPERSTAR!!!! He is very famous all over Asia! I watched him since I was a child.

I knew from Time article that it gained over 110 million views before it got banned. Would you look at the fantastic number? And that without the international viewers numbers!

I decided to watch the drama after reading all of the controversies first. Controversies indeed is a two way swords. Without it, I do not think I would get very intrigued with this series. Hi China, you make me wanted to watch Addicted because the banning!

Actually, that article says that it's the discussion AFTER the ban which had 110 million views, not the series itself..

"online discussions on China’s microblogging service Weibo hashtagged “removal of Addiction” received more than 110 million hits within a day of its cancelation, reportsstate newspaper Global Times."

Still, a LOT of people are invested in this issue.

Also, it's quite fascinating how little you know about Asian culture over here, unless you take a special interest. Really, not much news reaches any mainstream channels. And not many films at the movies, on tv. Only the most famous, most internationally awarded (like in Cannes etc) are shown. You have to go look for it yourself, if you want. That's why it was the ban which made me go look for Addicted.

And that's why I didn't know who Andy Lau  was. It's weird.

Hmmmm...interesting interview answers..Jingyu is becoming more at ease during these one on one interviews...bravo!!!

Hey, I just noticed something. I was sleepy yesterday so I kind of just ignore it even though I felt the sound effects and music familiar(I couldn't remember that time either). But I rewatch JY's XinJinBao video just now and I remember it.

The background music and sound effects are from the Japanese visual novel game Danganronpa. The music and sound effects are so iconic that I recognize it. That game is very interesting and I totally recommend it to ppl who like suspense and solving mysteries. (WARNING, not for faint hearted, game involves killing each other and execution, kind of horrifying in some sense, although they tone it down with pink blood, and overly cutesy coating although it is kind of creepy in some ways too)

The game is about the MC, Makoto Naegi, an average student who doesn't excel in anything but he got invitation to the most prestigious school, the Hope Peak's Academy where only elite students can get it.

Sounds cliche right? But the cliche just ends here.

When he enters the school, he fell unconscious and wake up to find he's trapped in the school with other 14 elite students. Each of them excel in certain area. After they gather, A sadistic robot teddy bear appears and said they are to live in the school forever. The only way to get out is to kill another student and get away with it at a self imposed class trial that the students debate among themselves to find the murderer, presenting evidence and questioning the culprit if the need arises. If the students guess the wrong culprit, the murderer gets to escape and all others will be executed. If the murderer is guessed right, only the murderer is executed.

Please do not watch anything if you don't want the story to be spoilt and intend to play the game. It is very easy to get the plot spoiled(who will die) if you go watch/read something.

haa so, I missed it, I remember the 110 mill only, thanks for correcting me. I live in northern Europe right now and know exactly what you mean, the only Chinese TV star made the local news when she  came to the city for shooting a commercial was because she had her jewelry stolen from her hotel room, and not because she is an actress.

@kmmyzz I skipped school today, high five!

Hi! I survived from JY's messy live and failed to get on ZZ's live lol but today was like a roller coaster ride! ZZ's first appearance after went missing for days, ZZ acting cute, ZZ entrusting his bag to the fans, ZZ smelling good, etc. Soompi forum went down, both ZZ JY got live stream, I skipped work...

.

XD well totally worth it though. JY's stream was quite enjoyable to watch but a bit uncomfortable too, anyway most of the reporters looked like they're his fans too xD

I liked Addicted's cinematography to be honest, because I suppose it was indie (read: low budget, oops, ahah) but with interesting and well chosen camera angles, and in general seems more gritty and real. The style suits a nostalgic school story, I feel. Of course both are great though ^~^

True! For a low budget series, Addicted's cinematography is excellent. If Addicted got remake (or season 2 is made) with DotS' budget... Well, I am hoping for an even more spectacular, heartwrenching drama :D

edit: I am going to spam here while watching ZZ's stream, bear with me guys and girls!

I hope we can see ZZ's training for singing Dust tomorrow night! Super excited and hoping that he can astound the audience tomorrow! XD

Where is he, anyway?
