Hi everyone, it's my first post here - been following the drama slowly in my free time and I didn't see the written preview being translated yet for Episode 10 yet so here it is  But if it has been posted before, please forgive me.

Oh Em Gee! Call me crazy, but I watched the first half of episode 9, 10+ times before I was able to move on and watch the rest of it. I loved every moment of the first and second lead couples. DOTS is 'nuff said!!!!!!!

Episode 9 is lighter than the previous episodes - romance and comedy all mixed together.  Both lead actors continue to show us they are deserving of the roles assigned to them.  SJK is so charming, he's such a tease - he finally broke the wall surrounding his love interest, Dr. Kang MoYeon.  

i was right when I guessed Lee ChiHoon won't return to Korea with the group.  Another guess- Dae Young won't leave the army.

i can't help but laugh (not smile) every time I watch the scene where YSJ and KMY have hays on their hair.

i was trying to imagine who else can better play YSJ but couldn't think of anyone.  SHK was right when she said 'who else can do it but Song JoongKi'.

The comedy of embarrassment for Mo Yeon is absolutely adorable. I have to say the reactions are dead on to a real situation if I were to be face with such a thing I want to run away and avoid the person in embarrassment. Of course this brings along questions to me on whether or not Yellow Tiger made a visit because he learns that Yoo Shi Jin (Yoo Si Jin) has kissed another girl and that the girl reciprocates his affection. This would mean that his daughter is sheer out of luck which I am sure she is thankful.

It also means that since he is taken now that Dae Young would have a chance to be with Myung Joo. However, I got a bit confused on the portion that talks about how the father gives Dae Young a chance to quit the army and join Myung Joo company (Confused here) and work for them up the ranks til he would be worthy of his daughter. I might have to wait for better translations to understand this portion, but could this be somehow related to Shi Jin and Dae Young being in black suits with ear pieces like body guards?

This forum jumps so fast and I give up trying to keep up, hahahah. 

Just finished watching Ep. 9 and I gotta say, it's the happiest episode so far, and it makes me super happy and giddy too. 

Captain and doctor were so adorable in all their scenes together. 

Love how Moo Yeon just grabbed her phone when her confession was suddenly aired and how she just sprinted away right after that. Love how she ran away with lots of effort but he just jumped out the window easily and was already at the front door when she arrived. 

I love how Si Jin flirted, hahahah. 

Love how Moo Yeon tried to hide from everybody and how, since she didn't know what else to say to defend herself, she said it wasn't her who confessed on the phone. That's the most ridiculous reason a brilliant surgeon could say, and I laughed whenever she said that. 

Love the convo of YSJ and KMY by the window. He really seemed to appear everywhere when all she wanted was to avoid him. 

It's crazy how YSJ spied his crush with a sniper's rifle, and how Seo Dae Young seemed so used to his Captain's acting, hahaha!

Love the walk out from the landmine too. It's actually very dangerous, but Si Jin made it seemed like dancing and flirting on a grass field.

Si Jin showed he's not a man of many words and Moo Yeon kissed him back!!!

Song Joong Ki seemed excited and I think it's my first time seeing SHK kissing someone back.

I heard people are saying that she only really kissed Hyun Bin before and then it was revealed that they were dating. So shippers are saying maybe Song2 are real too. Not to be said here and should be said in the shippers thread, I know. Hope the mods won't delete my post. 

Some hay at the back of their head meant they rolled on and made out on a hay somewhere before going home? I regret how the production team only give us a major tease and not just film the making out scene and release it with R-21 warning online. That'll be fantastic, lol. Or if they air it, the ratings might hit 50%.

Hilarious how they greeted each other good night so stiffly, must be because they know the sunbae doctor and Nurse Ja Ae were watching, plus they're embarrassed. 

Love the kiss at the gas station too. Shutting up a girl with a kiss is definitely the best way, Captain!

Love SDY-KMJ's progress too. Glad that soldier's way of communication is so direct. I guess because for those who work in real combat, they don't have time to beat around the bush. Her father finally gave his blessing. But I'm sad because he asked SDY to quit military duties and work in her mother's company. 

I'm sure he just want SDY to be safe for his daughter, yet SDY's best is as a soldier. I don't think he'll be happy as a businessman. There's no other way to know what he will do except waiting. My guess is the Commander will not force SDY to leave the army in the end. 

Lee Chi Hoon's internal conflict is one of the reasons this drama makes lots of sense. He's so human. I really don't blame him for leaving the patient at the ruins during earthquake. He was afraid, and being afraid was human. Doctors are humans and not gods. They get afraid too. He was alone then, and logically speaking, I don't think he actually got the strength to lift the person from the hole on his own. 

The patient is punishing him severely and I hate him for that, although his behavior is understandable. If their situation was reversed, and the patient was the doctor and he had to save Lee Chi Hoon from the ruins while he himself could die too, would he safe him? There's a chance that he won't and that he would run too. 

Lee Chi Hoon is taking it to his professionalism lack as a doctor, thinking he's not good enough, and got depressed. His character is very special here, and I could relate and learn from him. He was trembling but he insisted to take care of the patient. He's ready to face the hatred and wanted to mend his mistakes. I think that's very great. I'm glad the sunbae doctor realized he was in trouble and would take a better observation and care of him. 

It's touching, how Lee Chi Hoon gave his seat on the plane for the useless power plant manager and opted to stay there. He said he didn't want to run away. If he ran away, he would be a really terrible doctor. This is a person who respects his profession a lot, failed to do what expected from him in a mortal crisis, got depressed about it, but decided to face the consequences (the hatred by the patient) and stayed in Uruk. That's really brave, you know. 

I hope he will recover from his depression and could come out from this challenge as a better man and doctor. 

This drama also tries to show several of the world's ongoing problems: human-trafficking, starvation and ongoing conflicts in several countries. It's extremely interesting how Argus was shot by the little girl he was going to sell and how he writhed in pain and Kang Moo Yeon was given the option to save him or not. He screamed, "You took an oath!", but he's a criminal and a murderer, and saving him would mean letting him kill more people in the future. 

It's a very rational train of thought and if I were Doctor Kang, I would let him die. But Si Jin doesn't want his gf to be a murderer and breaks her oath, and tell her that she should do her job in saving people. If someone has to kill, let it be him, since it's his job. 

Excitingly waiting for ep. 10. 

It's terrific how this drama reached 30% rating, and I think it completely deserves it. 

This drama makes me realized how much I love Song Hye Kyo as an actress and an individual, as much as I love my Ha Ji Won unnie. Her acting is so natural and she's ultimately pretty though her make up is so light. I love her more and more in each episode. She found a child that had measles and she immediately asked YSJ to drive him into the village and she would try to save all the children. She even had the courage to ask Argus to bring the children to Medicube. So brave. I love Dr. Kang!

And awwmaigad Song Joong Ki got cuter and more handsome in each episode I want to gush and roll around in bed. 

My fellow teacher who is always calm and already has one baby surprised me since DOTS started airing. Didn't know before that she's a big fan of SJK. Last week when we watch together, at the end of Ep. 9, she strangled me while watching the end lolol. So hysterical.

DOTS is not only a drama I enjoy to watch, but it makes my days at school more fun, since I spazz about it everyday with my fellow teachers and online, it makes me meet more people.

Really a great drama. 

How many times did I say "love" in this long essay? Blame it on the cast and Kim Eun Seok. Gosh, she's a brilliant scriptwriter. 

Can't understand that the person who wrote the cheesy and irrational Heirs and the awesome DOTS are the same person.

Guys. GUYS. 

I felt so immature. I couldn't help but giggle throughout the episode. OH DOTS. OH K-DRAMAS. Why is skinship so elusive that anytime a good kiss happens, it's like "STAHP IT." oh but wait, please don't stop. please continue. hahaha. I seriously don't read into kisses this much with my American shows.

Anyways, I felt like this episode was just full of fluff and kind of like a nice a break/gift the writer decided to give us viewers.  We have officially passed the halfway point and the main conflict has been introduced. So I feel like the writer wanted to get some sweetness in before things get back into the drama of things. 

And I think it's kind of cute how people are literally counting down the known kisses left. Or really just kiss.. right? Since now I think there's only the balcony kiss remaining? I was really not expecting the gas station kiss this episode. And then when I saw KMY wearing the sweater from the poster image, I was all excited haha. 

I'm happy for the goowon couple, but also worried. I'm pretty sure they'll have a happy ending though since the drama started with them being in the middle of their love conflict. I'm actually more worried about the fate of the main OTP. But sending positive thoughts to the universe. 

And I actually loved the truck kiss. The lighting was amazing. And the look KMY was giving YSJ was just wonderful. She's just really into him and the moment.  And I think it's great she was able to finally, REALLY confess in her own space at her own time, just the two of them (ignoring the driver.. lol) without feeling totally forced into it right after the recording. It just felt so much more sincere, and you could tell she was ready to open up at that moment. And yes, SHK proved again she CAN kiss! (Although I think she pretty much had proved that in The Worlds Within... multiple times over haha). And I especially love it when they shoot a double kiss that shows the female lead inciting and reciprocating. And when does KMY kisses him back, you see YSJ kind of stiffen almost in surprise and then just melt into the kiss. This kiss scene was just so tenderly done, it was great. There's passion but not overly forced. They just end up leaning into each other and the moment of it all, so its great.

I did laugh a bit as they zoomed out because I could tell the truck and the road were pretty bumpy. And while the scene was so romantic, I'm pretty sure it was also super awkward to kiss like that. But both SJK and SHK are obviously troopers and totally pulled through. 

Also, I'm not sure.. I might be the only one.. But when YSJ was using his sniper scope to spy on KMY and then proceeded to trace a heart with the laser pointer, my gullible kdrama fan side was like: aw that's kind of a clever twist. But then a larger part of me was all: that's kind of a freaky thing to do YSJ... super stalkery. And if it was me, I would be freaked out to see a laser target on my head. I wanted to tell the writer she was walking a fine line in that scene of almost overdoing things. hahaha. But I'll let it go in lieu of how cute our OTP was. 

My other favorite moment (beside the kisses) was when KMY gets called in to see the head general dude, and he tells the 4 of them to take a seat, and KMY is all happy and says 'OK!' while the other 3 politely refuse. HAHAHA. Such a great comedic moment highlighting just how different their worlds are in a lighthearted manner. Its moments like these that I'm glad the writer wrote in comic relief because I get to see SHK show more range. She's super good in melodramas and crying, so she's been taking serious roles a lot in the recent past.. I think pretty much since Full House. So it's great to see her exercise some comedic chops. She gets to show a range of facial expressions (which I think was kind of wished to see in TWTWBs I guess for obvious reasons). 

Overall, a fun episode. And SO happy for breaking 30%. I hope DOTS continues to increase in ratings! 40% seems so hard especially now that streaming is so much more accessible even than back like 3-4 yrs ago in 2012 with The Moon Embracing the Sun. But I'll still hope for it! 

And can I just say, the forum for DOTS is really a positive and encouraging one overall. It really makes live viewing and waiting for each weekly release bearable haha. And it probably enhances the viewing experience for a lot of us since there are other people we can just go crazy with over the show.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet, but the scene where they received Gen Yoon and met with him in his office where he asked SiJin if he was interested in MyeongJu at all must have been shot in Korea. Song JoongKi clearly has a cast on his right wrist in those scenes, but when was at the camp before going to receive the General and thereafter when he presumably walks out of the Genera;'s office, his right wrist is cast-free.

Separately, is he ambidextrous? He was tossing the stone with his left hand but he seems to handle other things with his right...

“Descendants of the Sun” Becomes First Drama in 4 Years to Break Ratings Record

 

“Descendants of the Sun” has finally broken through the 30 percent viewership ratings with their latest episode!

According to Nielson Korea ratings from March 24, the ninth episode from the hit KBS drama “Descendants of the Sun” that aired on March 23 recorded a 30.4 percent rating, which was a 0.6 percent increase from their previous episode that had a 28.8 percent viewership rating.

The drama has become the first drama since MBC’s “Moon Embracing the Sun” in 2012 to break the 30 percent mark, officially proving that the nation is under the “Descendants Syndrome.”

Other dramas that aired during the same time period recorded 3.5 percent for “Please Come Back Mister” on SBS and a 3.6 percent for MBC’s “Goodbye Mr. Black.”

Before the gas station kiss scene... MY was reminded of how MJ stole her crush before so she was wondering why Captain Yoo didn't get attracted to her. She couldn't believe it that Captain SJ preferred her over MJ. Very cute scene, indeed!

Just a thought, do you guys think we will be fortunate to get a flashback scene of their makeout session while they roll in hay or something to explain the hay? Obviously the mystery of the hay is a first world problem for all DOTS viewers right now. LOL. I noticed we've gotten quite a bit of flashbacks that were not initially shown during the actual scene. I really hope so!

1. During the mine scene, they touched each other plenty of times like they are so used to it. I've been comparing them to the many skinships I could recall in dramas before but these scenes in DOTS were the most natural. 

2. The positions of their legs in the truck. HEHEHEHE. I will just end that here. 

3. When MY was waving at the trucks to hitchhike, SJ(orrrrr.. SJK) grabbed her shoulder and never let go until she saw another truck coming. I SO LOVE HOW HIS HANDS STAYED ON HER SHOULDERS (there is also movement hehe) FOR SO LONG AND SO COMFORTABLY. UGH. 

4. When SJ keeps on moving his head closer to MY's during the gas station scene. And when he kissed her, his head just stayed that close to hers. 

 

And the best part is, I did not feel any (not one bit) of awkwardness from SHK. 

 

 

Actually there's one more skinship happened in the car after the landmine explosion, I love to see how SJ controlled the car using his left hand and securely hold MY's shoulder using his right hand, although it's only a glance, but this lovely simple gesture never fails to impress me...

Sorry to cut your post, but I can somewhat agree that it could have come across as rather creepy but SJK/SJ pulls it off because he's just SO smitten with her.  It also helps that MY and him are in a relationship, so he's not just some random guy but her boyfriend.  So I find it slightly less problematic?  Not that being a woman's boyfriend gives you the right to stalk her, but MY would not have minded him looking at her smile and calling her pretty (in fact, she loves it).  So while invasive, and a little weird, I found it more cute than harmful.   But I wanted to tell him he could go look at her closer up if he wanted to.  She accepted you, don't hide.     That scene is also helped by the fact that he's supposed to  be checking out his weapons, so he didn't just randomly set up his rifle scope to stalk her.  He just happened to see her and took advantage of the situation.  But yeah, KES let's not go TOO far now.  I find SJ does walk a fine line from time to time, but thankfully SJK makes him charming.

Could 'Descendants of the Sun' dethrone 'Moon Embracing the Sun'?

Anticipation is growing after the South Korean drama "Descendants of the Sun" achieved what has been perceived as near impossible here with the rise of cable channels recently: a terrestrial drama garnering more than 30 percent of viewers nationwide.

For those living under a rock, "Descendants of the Sun" is a popular KBS 2TV series that portrays the unlikely romance that develops between a South Korean special forces captain, Yoo Si-jin, and Dr. Kang Mo-yeon, who volunteers for a medical non-profit organization. They first meet in South Korea and then coincide again in the fictional war-ravaged country of Uruk.

For the first time since premiering on Feb. 24 in both South Korea and China -- which made it the first South Korean show to do so -- the show was watched by more than 30 percent of viewers across South Korea on its ninth episode Wednesday. In Seoul, the figure passed that milestone two weeks ago, so it had been widely considered a matter of time for the nationwide figure to follow.

The last terrestrial TV series to have reached that sacred territory was "Moon Embracing the Sun," an MBC period drama from 2012. Considering that there has been a tectonic shift of sorts in the local TV scene in the past four years -- most notably, with the rapid ascent of cable channel tvN -- the feat by KBS 2TV is hoped to breathe life back into the terrestrial drama game, which has been in the doldrums for as long as one can remember.

The "Descendants of the Sun" syndrome is also noteworthy in that the show was entirely pre-produced with no additional episodes to be made. The South Korean tradition has been to adjust the plot and characters on a real-time basis depending on the viewer response -- a practice that resulted in part due to producers' lack of confidence in their material.

But while pre-production has remained something of a taboo here, producers at the Yeouido district in Seoul invested 13 billion won (US$11.1 million) in the project that they couldn't even say with certainty would take off. Combine that entrepreneurial spirit with the star-studded cast of actor Song Joong-ki and actress Song Hye-kyo, and pop writer Kim Eun-sook of "Lovers in Paris" and "The Heirs," and we get the Asiawide sensation that is "Descendants of the Sun."

There remains one more peak to scale for this Wednesday-Thursday night soap -- turning that first digit of viewership figure to 4. "Moon Embracing the Sun" is the last show to have broken the 40 percent mark in the past five years. That show, which marked actor Kim Soo-hyun's big TV break, surpassed 40 percent on its 16th episode, with the finale concluding with 42.2 percent. "Descendants of the Sun" -- which has been following more or less the same, early trajectory of the MBC classic -- might have a shot at similar success. And even if it doesn't, KBS insiders say, they are happy with a viewership greater than 20 percent.

What "Descendants of the Sun" has also shown to South Korean TV producers is that a human interest, disaster-themed story -- and not always the typical romantic comedy between a rich man and an average woman or vice versa -- can be popular among viewers too.

That such experimentation is appreciated by viewers has already been proven by tvN, the prolific cable network behind several drama successes, including the web cartoon-based office drama "Misaeng," nostalgia-inducing coming-of-age story "Reply 1988" and time-travel crime thriller "Signal." It had remained to be seen, however, whether terrestrial channels would ever break away from their cookie-cutter style, risk-averse storytelling. "Descendants of the Sun" has done just that and is bound to open a new chapter for rival channels MBC and SBS.

In China, by the way, the response has been explosive, too. On iQiyi, the local video streaming website that holds the broadcasting rights for "Descendants of the Sun," a combined 1 billion searches for episodes, press releases and other posts related to the show have been noted. A college student reportedly contracted glaucoma after watching too many episodes in one sitting. Media reports also say a couple divorced because the show made the husband jealous. Another man is said to have undergone plastic surgery to please his Song Joong-ki-obsessed wife. Chinese security authorities have also warned their people on Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, of the "legal risks" that may result from being too infatuated with actor Song.

South Korean producers have long feared that "My Love from the Star," an SBS sci-fi romantic comedy popular in late 2014 to early 2015, might have spelled the end of "hallyu," or the Asiawide popularity of Korean pop culture, in China. But "Descendants of the Sun" seems to have disproved such concerns, as actor Song's manager attests.

"I've been getting a phone call every three minutes asking for business deals with Song Joong-ki," Kim Jung-yong said, adding he will exercise discretion in choosing which deals to pursue and which not to. "I think we're going to have a lot of work to do in China." (Yonhap)

The music charts have been taken over by television shows. From songs featured on variety shows to drama soundtracks, they have swept the charts and have proven just how much love their shows have received.

 

 

 

In the case of the KBS drama “Descendants of the Sun,” it isn’t just the show that is a huge hit but the corresponding soundtrack has also become immensely popular.

 

 

 

The current songs from that soundtrack include Yoon Mirae’s “Always,” Chenand Punch’s “Everytime,” Davichi’s “This Love, Gummy’s “You Are My Everything,” Mad Clown and Kim Na Young’s “Once Again” and K.Will’s “Talk Love,” and each have swept the charts upon its release.

I was like – really Yoo Jin Shi? The mines moved? ..  the whole area shifted? Or the mine moved in it’s place (hole) and it became active … seriously? It moved and shifted to the road area? I saw it was a paved road ..  Like Korea shifted a bit closer to japan? That kind of moved? .. Woah ..

Wakaka ..  I don’t care on the technical aspect of this drama … I couldn’t care less if YSJ pumping her stomach doing the CPR instead of her chest .. I couldn’t be bothered .. wahahhaha Or MY wearing heels to the disaster site (not like she had time to rummage through her stuff to find sneaker and she was on the way home to Korea – A girl has to look her best all the time HOKAY!!! .. and She is not psychic she didn’t know there would be earth quake )

But oh oh – I would mind very very very much if YSJ doing CPR but no mouth to mouth resuscitation … THAT IT TOTALLY WRONG … will effect the plot and overall story and message the writer trying to convey will not reach us the viewer ..
