How sweet will Super Junior Donghae’s first TV series be?

20120817_1345188610_81693700_1.jpg

Some things you need to know before watching the sweet love story at a bakery.

The drama starring Super Junior’s Donghae, Panda and Hedgehog, premieres on August 18.

Panda and Hedgehog (written by Han Joon Young; directed by Lee Min Chul) is about the growth and love of young adults going after their dream in a bakery. The genius patissier Go Seung Ji (played by Donghae) and Panda Yang (played by Yoon Seung Ah), an optimistic girl, are main characters of the series. Before we begin to watch the series, there are some points you need to know.

The romance sweeter than a cake

Donghae targets viewers with his pretty boy pattisier character who has a sweet heart underneath his unfriendly personality. On the other hand, Yoon Seung Ah is to grab fans’ hearts with her cute, random character.

The two characters will share a “chaotic” romance at a bakery.

There are also some other character that will interfere main characters’ romantic relationship: Choi Won Il (played by Choi Jin Hyuk) and Kang Eun Bi (played by Yoo So Young). Opposed to his handsome looks, Choi Jin Hyuk’s character has clumsy personality which works as one of his charming points. Yoo So Young appears as a bad, but cute girl.

The “gods” of acting that support Panda and Hedgehog

The middle-aged actors who give you credibility in the series by just reading their names will be in the series. They include Park Geun Hyung, Yang Hee Kyung, Lee Moon Hee, and Hyun Suk. They are going to breathe stability and warm humanism into the series.

Park Geun Hyung who projected his passion for acting in the SBS’s The Chaser will play Park Byung Moo, the owner of a bakery where Donghae works. In the meantime, Lee Moon Hee appears as Park’s mother. The series is her first work which breaks her hiatus of 27 years.

See it with your eyes and feel it with your heart

The story begins on the setting of a café named Panda and the best bakery of Korea, Saint-Honoré. Every episode will cover different sorts of cakes that will keep your eyes pleased. The process of baking and actors’ enthusiasm will also entertain you.

The series is a joint work of writer Han Joon Young who wrote “It’s Okay, Daddy’s Girl” and director Lee Min Chul of Successful Story of a Cheerful Girl. The first episode will be on Channel A at 7:30 on August 18.

I'm a sucker for dramas about food and even bigger sucker for ones about desserts. I just finished watching episode one and enjoyed it. (writing this post assuming people has seen episode one. but i will post spoiler tags just in case so don't click if you don't want to know what happens in episode one)
So far a slow start but i like how we're starting to learn about the characters. They even throw in some questions I'm dying to find out about like

did the little boy and girl ever get to talk and who was that guy that bumped into him and what did SJ do to land himself in prison?

What I'm slightly confused about is

in the preview for epi 2 WI said his name was hedgehog but isn't that SJ's nickname? I'm not say two guys can't have the same nick name but isn't that slight confusing.

In the revealed pictures, genius patissier Go Seung Ji (played by Dong Hae) is seen making sweet cakes and macaroons. In particular, it is evident that Dong Hae is working hard as he is learning tips from a real patissier in order to act out his role as realistically as possible.

Although Dong Hae is busy with Super Junior activities, he is still working hard to get the details right and play his role as convincingly as possible.

The staff of the drama revealed, "Although Dong Hae is busy with his own schedule, he is still working hard to convey his role fully."
