Great @tealee and @roweina78 are also joining us. =D>
Watched 2 eps yesterday and so far, i like it. Yoochun doesn't get much screen time from what I saw. Which is totally obvious because the story is focused on Miri. hehehe. I can see the chemistry between Myung hoon and Miri. Now, i am curious on how will Yoo Hyun enter Miri's life. If Miri didn't lie in the first place, I think she will really get Myung Hoon's affection. I feel bad for that ahjussi. His marriage situation is very painful to watch.
I also like LDH, I think she is very versatile.I don't have a say on YC-LDH chemistry yet since they have a few screen time together on the first 2 episodes. But i think Hee Joo-Yoo Hyun is kinda cute. We'll see. :)
*Oh random fact, I just realized that this drama competed with Yoon Eun Hye and Kang Ji Hwan's "Lie To Me" :D

Hello Chunsas and everybody here *waves*

I just realized that this weekend is Lunar New Year, so I have to prepare for it. But I will pop in once I get a chance to watch episodes 1-2. So glad that some of you have started. :D

If you are reading this and you are not from Yoo Chun's thread, just wanted to let you know a group of us have decided to watch MR and discuss it for a duration of about 8 weeks. We will watch 2 episodes per week. So if you have watched it before and liked it, I invite you to rewatch if you would like to join us in discussions and/or if you would like to discuss with us, we will be around this thread for about 8-9 weeks. We are watching episodes 1-2 this week. We limit ourselves to 2 per week because of our schedules, but you can watch at whatever pace you wish.:D We also bookmarked this thread for the purpose of our discussions and so if you reply we will be notified of your posts. So happy postings!

Until then, have fun. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I will read them once I get a chance to start watching. :)>-

I like his smile in this capture. :) So innocent. Very different from Lee Gak (in Rooftop Prince), haha.

It's funny that I don't recall Yoochun being this boyish in MR (kinda taken aback a little while re watching)...Maybe because I remember him/his character more towards the end...And also, maybe because we just saw Missing You/I Miss You and PYC is soooo manly there :\">

class="postitle"130205 “The JYJ” 1000 Days Magazine – Yuchun’s Interview: “Miss Ripley” Met Song Yoo Hyun February 5, 2013 by skymy

k3le1.jpg

Park Yuchun achieved success through “Sungkyunkwan Scandal” and appeared in a traditional love drama. MBC TV drama “Miss Ripley” aired in May 2011 was his stage.

Talking about “Miss Ripley”, the first thing that Park Yuchun said was “a sense of burden”. Not sure exactly when but this sense of burden grew bigger and bigger due to pressure and anxiety.

Because this is the second work after the announcement of the birth of a new actor with “Sungkyunkwan Scandal”, Park Yuchun continuously dwelled on “the obsession of must do well” and “breaking through (self) limits”.

In addition, to merge himself into the role of the perfect man Song Yoo Hyun in whom no flaws can be found, he felt difficulties.

“Foreign language, sports, piano, etc all have to be displayed perfectly, that sense of burden was very big. The imperfect me, having to act as the perfect man, it was naturally followed by difficulties. Because of the doubt ‘Can I show the perfect Song Yoo Hyun that the scriptwriter has in mind?’, at the beginning I was very troubled by the embodiment of this character.

Abandoned the sense of burden, throwing in passion again

Heavy rainstorms causing the shoot to be delayed and other external factors also caused Yuchun to feel strained. It was also generated by his own self-expectations.

“Due to the success of the first work, there was an excessive desire to do even better, causing myself to be oppressed. Although I am saying it now, I cannot understand why I had to carry such a heavy rock at that time.” Plus the fact that there were many senior actors, it was possible that he was already disheartened at the start.

In addition, there were many times that environmental factors at the scene broke the emotional balance. So not because of long hours of filming or tiring overnight shoots, but it was a work that was full of expectations but it kept getting broken, that kind of sadness was worse.

But as an actor, working with veteran actors, he gained many new realisations.

“To be able to work with senior Jang Yong (as Yoo Hyun’s father) and senior Choi Myung Gil (as Yoo Hyun’s step-mother), I was very happy. At the start, I was a bit afraid. But the reality was completely different. From that time on, I got the feeling that now I am really acting. After the shoot was finished, I even suggested to my teachers (T/N referring to the veteran actors) to have a meal together, I was very grateful to them,” he relayed his gratitude.

Strength from the fans was also great. “It was different from “Sungkyunkwan Scandal”, probably because “Miss Ripley” is a serious drama, the immediate response was less. But each time an episode was over, fans would upload their thoughts and feelings with much sincerity, giving me support.” He did not forget his gratitude to his fans.

What “Miss Ripley” left behind

Through “Miss Ripley”, Park Yuchun showed a more matured side of himself as an actor. “Although there was a lot of screen time, it seems I was not able to convey completely the story of Yoo Hyun’s heart. It looked like he was a person that was being moved along, but actually he is a proactive character. During role analysis, even when succeeding his father’s business, he is a proactive person. Therefore, when the lies of the woman he loves are exposed, it’s clear that he should have been more proactive to solve it.” He told us his own explanation of the role.

For the scene that left the strongest impression, he chose the scene where Yoo Hyun told Miri he already knew all the lies much earlier and was only pretending not to know. He said, “At that time, the long script of 7 or 8 pages was especially easy to memorise. Seems like it was also a very satisfying scene for viewers, probably because it resolved a lot of uncertainties.”

Through this drama, Park Yuchun also developed the ability to grasp the main points of the scene.

“Now when I receive the script, the main points will leap out at me. That kind of scene needs practice or confirmation beforehand etc, I will think through it properly; and I also know how to adjust my feelings in advance.

Another big topic of discussion that Miss Ripley left behind is that Park Yuchun sang the drama OST “The Empty Space For You”. When it was released at that time, it swept all the OST charts and became the most loved OST in Asia. “This song, Junsu also likes very much. Both the lyrics and the melody, (we) like very much.” (T/N There is no subject here, so from the context, “we” is assumed.)

Although there were lots of times he felt troubled from the time he decided to act in it and the preparation, now looking back, Park Yuchun wants to remember them all as good memories, and he will not forget the lessons learned on the difficult journey, once again flashing his bright, cheerful smile.

Probably put in spoiler...which I still don't know how to do #:-S

I am basically waiting to make 'content' comment until somebody says things first so not to spoil anything.

I think everybody knows that MR does not have the happiest of endings (i dont like unhappy endings) but I have always thought that it was satisfying >:D< and 'it should be'...

Keep at it everyone! PYC has chemistry with Everyone and Everything, including those blow up pink sticks! :P

Again, LDH is amazing in this drama. I will probably watch Iris2 because of her.

@tealee, I came again :) I also hope that IRIS 2 don't have a sad ending as well. They should be already learnt from their mistakes in IRIS 1 and don't won't to leave viewers disappointed again :D
@vzmeiim, waves back dear :x nice to know that you looked into Chuno too. It was really good, one of my favorites. The direction and JH were the highlight of that drama and what made it that good for me. But to be honest LDH role there was disappointing for me but surely MR was her strong comeback :x
Back to our unconventional drama :) how many episodes everybody watched/re-watched till now ??

130211 Japanese actor praised Yuchun’s acting in his column in ‘Korean TV Drama Perfect Guide’ magazine

February 11, 2013 by skymy

Japanese theatre actor, Yagyu Keisuke (柳生啓介), praised Yuchun in his first special column ‘Actor’s Eye’ in the Japanese magazine ‘Korean TV Drama Perfect Guide’.

Translation:

Yagyu Keisuke, ‘Actor’s Eye’:Park Yuchun First column: Yuchun’s backpack“Yagyu-san, that backpack ~ it’s cool!” are words that I recently heard from friends. This backpack that I like to show off, is actually the same as the one Yuchun-san carried in ‘Rooftop Prince’.

A late self-introduction. Everyone, nice to meet you, I’m Yagyu Keisuke, an actor from the drama company, ‘Zenshinza’(劇団前進座). As an actor, to learn from others, I started watching Korean dramas and it has been 10 years without me realising it. The dramas’ higher meaning, ideals, being moved, the sincere attitude of actors towards their roles, their passion and sacrifice towards acting give me an enormous amount of strength. As an actor, that is the goal that I’m aiming for. This is of course not enough, but I am an actor like them, and using my point of view, this column observes the appeal of Korean drama actors. For the first article, it is an extremely outstanding actor that has the most of my attention right now — Park Yuchun-san.

2013-02-09_183132_zps56d140dd.jpg

The first time I saw actor Park Yuchun was in ‘Miss Ripley’. Although, frankly, I didn’t know much about him except that he was formerly a member of TVXQ and debuted (as an actor) not long ago, but I was stunned by his excellent acting.‘Miss Ripley’ is a story about Miri, acted by Lee DaHae-san, who used her good looks, faked her credentials, deceived men and outwitted the world in order to escape from her difficult life. Yuchun-san acted as Song Yoo Hyun, a 2nd generation chaebol (family-run business conglomerate) who is deeply in love with Miri. In the first half, he acted brightly as a good young man, who is pure and simple unlike a chaebol heir, and devotedly in love with Miri. His look makes you want to say to him: Even if you have a liking for her, how can you be so muddle-headed to be so obsessed with this kind of woman?

In the 2nd half, his look changed. The Yoo Hyun that knows Miri’s true colours is pretty amazing! From here, the true nature of Actor Park Yuchun is revealed.Everyone, let’s imagine a bit, after knowing that all are lies, that you have been deceived, what would a chaebol-heir do? Yell out angrily, make a big mess in the office, smash your fist in the mirror and it bleeds…. I have seen this kind of scenes many times. If it was me, I may also act it like that.

But Park Yuchun showed the opposite in his acting. His voice was not loud nor emotional, he acted out the inner anguish with quiet and restrain. Why did I open my heart to this lady, he thought deeply and searched for the answer. And later he uncovered the secret that led to her being an orphan; he had to face Miri’s loneliness and longing for her mother, and thought back to his own childhood sadness. In the end, he realised he really did love her before.

If an actor over-relies on the performance of his lines, his expressions or his actions, his acting will become too deliberate. But if you don’t do this, you will feel insecure. Implicit acting, or getting rid of unnecessary acting, is very difficult if you do not go deep into the character’s heart to understand his inner self. Even without saying a word, without using scripted lines to explain, he could show how much anguish Yoo Hyun had, this is a deep level of acting that can’t be described.Needless to say, I couldn’t wait to watch his debut work, ‘Sungkyunkwan Scandal’. Then in his 3rd work ‘Rooftop Prince’, he met the best partner and his acting took a flying leap forward, even the world was amazed. Park Yuchun…. a formidable actor appeared.

Now I am performing in Kyoto’s Kabuki play ‘Red Beard’. The character that I am playing doesn’t speak much, although he appears in the first half of the play, he doesn’t have many lines. But he is slowly growing within the story, and in the end, there is love between him and the woman that he has been loving; he’s a rather cool and handsome character. I want to follow the example of Yuchun-san’s acting, even without speaking, the hidden pain in the heart can be conveyed to the viewers. Today’s stage, I will again try my best. And “Yuchun’s backpack” is my precious “amulet” (lucky charm).
