54th Baeksang Arts Awards Announces Nominees For TV And Film Categories (soompi news)

 Not sure what to make of the 54th Baeksang Awards nominations update that just came out. There's only two nominations for THE FORTRESS (Best Movie & Best Director) and none for KEYS TO THE HEART.  It's quite strange considering that the latter did quite well at the B.O. and if anything, PJM at least would be considered for his performance. Not to say that it's a new movie because other recently released movies got some nominations instead. Oh well.. oh well.. oh well..

Highly anticipated tvN drama “Mr. Sunshine” has released a stunning and impactful teaser.

We all were, in our own ways, passing a changing Joseon.” Amidst her narration, shots from the drama as well as shots of the cast in their characters were revealed. Some of the shots of scenes show a battle, the loud click of a gun, the unsheathing of a sword, and the Korean and American flags, all a beautiful amalgamation of traditional Korea meeting the modern West.

Lee Byung Hun appears dressed completely in black, looking dashing in a black fedora. He stands out sharply from the white, snowy background as he walks on an icy landscape. He will be playing former slave and current U.S. marine officer Eugene Choi.

[Lily's Weekly Highlights] Lee Soon-jae

photo962718.jpg

Lee Soon-jae shared that his most treasured junior actors and actresses are Lee Byung-hun, Kim Myung-min, Lee Seung-gi, and Ha Ji-won. He is especially fond of actor Kim Myung-min, which makes sense when you think of his endless effort and passion for acting. He shared this in the variety show "Grandpas Over Flower" and Lee Seo-jin says, "W..What about me, sir?" which made everyone laugh. Lee Soon-jae did not mention Lee Seo-jin, but everyone knows how much he loves Seo-jin as well.

There are so many reasons and stories of why the junior actors respect Lee Soon-jae so much, and one is that he is always waiting at the filming set. For someone as old and experienced as Lee Soon-jae, it is common for him to shoot his scenes first before anyone else, but he chooses to wait for many hours at the set so he doesn't inconvenience the staff and his fellow cast members.

Critically-acclaimed period drama The Fortress (2017) will be released in Japan on June 22. Featuring LEE Byung-hun, who is well known in Japan, but also KIM Yun-seok and PARK Hae-il, the film was directed by HWANG Dong-hyuk.

Set in 1636, the film focuses on the Qing Invasion of the Korean peninsula, as the Joseon court has fled to seek refuge in the Namhan Fortress. With 150,000 Qing troops breathing down their necks, the King must weigh the conflicting counsels he receives from his two most trusted advisors.

The Fortress was released during last year’s Chuseok holiday season and welcomed 3.85 million viewers (USD 29.44 million) to theaters. Shortly thereafter it became a multiple award winner at both the Korea Association of Film Critics Award, where it earned prizes for Best Film, Best Director, Best Cinematography and Best Music, and the Korean Film Producers Association Awards, where it won in the categories for Best Film, Best Editing and Best Sound.

In addition to its awards success at home, the film has also found favor overseas. Last month, it triumphed at the 12th Asian Film Awards (AFAs), where KIM Jee-yong earned the prize for Best Cinematographer.

Director HWANG previously helmed the abuse drama Silenced (2011) and the fantasy family comedy Miss Granny (2014), which has been adapted for local markets all around the world. The Fortress bears a Japanese connection, as it was the first Korean film to be scored by legendary composer SAKAMOTO Ryuichi.

Written by Kim Eun Sook and directed by Lee Eung Bok, the creative team behind “Goblin” and “Descendants of the Sun,” “Mr. Sunshine” tells the story of a Korean man who returns to his homeland as an American soldier after leaving for the United States on a warship in 1871.

The latest trailer highlights the tense relationship between the Westernized Eugene Choi (Lee Byung Hun) and the Joseon-era Go Ae Shin (Kim Tae Ri). In one shot, he faces her as two soldiers hold guns to her head, while in another the two hold their hands up to each other’s faces in a room. This is purely using Google-gist, any mistakes is unintended - Highlighted in the news yesterday and today.

Come to think of it, it's really nothing new for the family. LBH's late father himself was a contractor or someone in the real-estate business before this.
