Snake Eyes Is Getting His Own ‘G.I. Joe’ Spinoff Movie!

BY STUART CONOVER ScienceFiction.com

Paramount Pictures still hasn’t opened up much on where they’re taking the G.I. Joe films but at least one spinoff movie has been confirmed featuring Snake Eyes! Evan Spiliotopoulos (‘Beauty and the Beast’) has been tapped to write the script and Brian Goldner will be producing the film.  Anyone else behind or in front of the camera has yet to be revealed.

Assuming this is set in the continuity of 2009’s ‘G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra’ and 2013’s ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation,’ we’ll likely see Ray Park reprising the role of this covert ninja. However, without any solid details, this could even prove to be a stand-alone or soft reboot as the studio hasn’t been able to find quite the solid footing that they’d gained with the ‘Transformers’ franchise.

Snake Eyes is G.I. Joe’s head ninja. He doesn’t speak and depending on the origin story he either no longer is able to or has chosen not to. He is also often depicted as having had his face having been disfigured which is why he always wears a mask.

His arch enemy is Storm Shadow who was played by Lee Byung-hun in both of the previous films. Likely, a Snake Eyes-centric story would also include Cobra’s head ninja. The two were rivals from their time growing up together and whose fates seem to be entwined. Again, it isn’t clear if this will be a reboot or if Byung-hun may be returning.

If the film isn’t a full-on reboot, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see one or two small cameos from previous stars of the franchise.

Are you looking forward to a Snake Eyes movie? Do you think Paramount will use this as a stand-alone, a continuation of the current two films, or be a planned soft reboot of the franchise?

MJ posted pics of her in Jeju over the weekend. Seems that there was a wedding invitation for the Hunnie Couple. BH sent a video-message to the bride+groom, looks like one of them is also a celebrity, I think. Presumably MJ went to the same wedding ceremony, BH obviously could not make it due to the ongoing filming.

Our thanks to the fans' highlight on twitter, Lee Byung Hun & his family attending Buddha's Birthday celebration (presumably on 5/22 as it's celebrated in South Korea). Nice to see JoonHoo with his parents & halmoni.. they really adore their precious little boy.

Looks like Appa's haircut (as Eugene Choi) is much shorter than JH's.

Not sure if it's a recent photo or a previous one. Looks like new.. however, there's not much description & no idea of the original source but here's a photo of BH and musical actor, Park Jae Hong. PJH recently made headlines being one of the heroes saving a trapped victim in a fire. (article)

The best thrillers on Hulu are just a click away.

Audra Schroeder The Daily Dot

The best movies on Hulu are just a click away, but sometimes you’re in the mood for something that doesn’t fit squarely in the comedy or drama genres. Something that gets under your skin and stays with you long after viewing. Hulu has an impressive selection of thrillers to keep you up at night. Here are the best thrillers on Hulu right now.

The best thrillers on Hulu

7) I Saw the Devil

best thrillers hulu - i saw the devil

This South Korean thriller pits two of the country’s most well-known actors (Lee Byung-hun and Choi Min-sik ) as a cop and a serial killer, respectively. It’s a cat-and-mouse story, or maybe cat-and-cat is more appropriate, as Byung-hun relentlessly tracks and tortures the man (Min-sik) who killed his wife. The film is directed by maestro Kim Jee-woon, so you’re in good hands. I Saw the Devil is brutal and provocative, and if you have the stomach for it, it’s well worth a watch. —Eddie Strait

8) The Crow

9) Manhunter

11) Children of Men (with Showtime add-on)

Have not seen any mention in English, just Korean media update for now.. but Lee Byung Hun may reunite with Dir. Woo Min Ho (INSIDE MEN) for a new movie, presumably a political thriller. Looks like the collaboration between the two will finally happen after LBH was unable to commit to Dir. Woo's 2018 movie (Drug King, upcoming release with Song Kang Ho)

“Mr. Sunshine” Gives A New Preview Of Characters Through Dramatic Posters

Source: Soompi by S. Park

Upcoming tvN drama “Mr. Sunshine” has revealed new posters of its main characters.

“Mr. Sunshine” is a historical drama that will tell the story of a Korean man who boarded a warship to the United States in 1871 during the Korean Expedition and then returns after he gets stationed in Korea as an American soldier.

“Mr. Sunshine” boasts a stellar cast and crew. Many popular actors will appear in this drama that was written by Kim Eun Sook and directed by Lee Eung Bok, who previously worked together on hit dramas  “Descendants of the Sun” and “Goblin.”

The posters of Lee Byung Hun, Kim Tae Ri, Yoo Yeon Seok, Kim Min Jung, and Byun Yo Han give viewers a glimpse at their characters who may not have been recorded in history books, but were heroes who rose in the cause for justice and fought for the independence of Korea.

Lee Byung Hun will appear as Eugene Choi, who was born as a slave in Korea and then grew up in the United States. In the poster, he looks charismatic as he points his gun up in the air. The words on his poster say, “Turbulent times. I thought that I had gone to the end, but I may have to go a bit further. One more step. Into the flame.”

Kim Tae Ri will portray Go Ae Shin, the daughter of a noble family who has an innocent appearance and tough mind. In the poster, she is wearing a pink gown while pointing a rifle at someone.

The words on her poster read, “The age of romance. If it’s a flower that’s going to bloom then fall, I want to become the hottest flame.” Her quote is a play on words, as the word for “flower” is included inside “flame” in Korean.

Spoiler

Yoo Yeon Seok holds onto an encased ornamental knife in his hand.  He will appear as Goo Dong Mae, who was born as a butcher then returns to Joseon as a president of a chapter of the Black Dragon Society. His poster says, “The age of loss. I shot a blackbird so it won’t fly again.”

Pointing a fencing sword at someone, Kim Min Jung looks fierce and confident in her poster. She will appear as Kudo Hina, the CEO of Glory Hotel, which she inherited from her Japanese husband. Her poster says, “An unbelievable time. There are things that can’t be cut with a knife like a righteous, burning mind.”

Byun Yo Han will portray Kim Hee Sung, an unemployed man who just returned to Korea after studying abroad in Japan and is the suitor of Go Ae Shin. He lets out a hearty laugh with a pipe in his mouth. The words on his poster read, “A cheerful era.  If you’re in danger, run here and hide. If you’re the reason why I came to Joseon, it’s an honor.”

A source from the drama said, “The ‘Mr. Sunshine’ posters symbolically express the individual ways that Lee Byung Hun, Kim Tae Ri, Yoo Yeon Seok, Kim Min Jung, and Byun Yo Han are living in the rapidly changing Joseon. Please look forward to the acting of Lee Byung Hun, Kim Tae Ri, Yoo Yeon Seok, Kim Min Jung, and Byun Yo Han in ‘Mr. Sunshine’ that will convey the most painful confession of modern history in the early 19th century.”

“Mr. Sunshine” will premiere on July 7 at 9 p.m. KST and air 24 episodes.
