[2024/04/02 | KOFICE] Gong Yoo ranks 4th place (2.2%) on Top 10 Favourite Korea Hallyu Actor in 2024 Overseas "Korean Wave Survey" conducted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea International Culture Exchange Promotion Agency (KOFICE).  The survey was conducted from Nov. 10 to Nov. 30, 2023, among locals aged 15 to 59 in 26 foreign countries, with a total of 25,000 people.

Gong Yoo is one of the most loved South Korean actors to date. He is well known for portraying Goblin in the hit fantasy romance K-drama Guardian: The Lonely and Great God. His other notable works include K-dramas Coffee Prince, The Silent Sea, and the movies Train To Busan, Seo Bok, and Kim Ji Young: Born 1982 amongst others.

The Ministry of  Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) of South Korea and the Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (KOFICE) released the results of the 2024 Overseas Hallyu (Korean Wave) Survey. 

Korean Wave refers to the rise in popularity of Korean pop culture content. The survey was done to know the awareness of Korean Wave content in different countries. 

The survey was held from Nov. 10 to 30 last year among 25,000 respondents in 26 countries and regions: China, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Kazakhstan, Australia, US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, UK, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Russia,  Turkmenistan, Turkey, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, South Africa.

For the third straight year, Netflix’s “Squid Game” is No. 1 as the favorite Korean drama with 7.9 percent, down from 10.3 percent in 2021 and 9.1 percent in 2022. 

“The Glory,” which starred Song Hye-kyo, is in second place with 3.4 percent followed by “King the Land” with 2.6 percent, “Crash Landing on You” with 2.2 percent, and “Black Knight” with 1.6 percent. 

In 2022, the top five were “Squid Game,” 11.3 percent; “Extraordinary Attorney Woo,” 2.8 percent; “All of Us Are Dead,” 2.6 percent; “Business Proposal,”  1.9%; and “Crash Landing on You,” 1.9 percent.

According to News 1 coverage on the 24th, Gong Yoo is discussing appearing as the main character in writer Noh Hee-kyung's new drama. 

The new drama that writer Noh Hee-kyung is preparing is a period drama that depicts the realistic scenes of broadcasters. This is a highly anticipated new work by writer Noh Hee-kyung, who has been loved by many viewers for delicately handling the deep emotions of the characters through 'More Beautiful Than Flowers', 'Goodbye Solo', 'The World They Live In', 'Dear My Friends', and 'Our Blues'. . 

Director Lee Yoon-jung, who directed ‘The 1st Coffee Prince’, ‘Cheese in the Trap’, and ‘Everybody’s Lies’, takes the lead. In addition to the meeting of a star writer and a star director, it is expected that a 'record' luxurious lineup will be drawn, with actresses Song Hye-kyo and Gong Yoo expected to appear as the main characters.
