Lee Jae-wook becomes Jun’s kingmaker in The Impossible Heir

by tccolb

The promo train has taken off with a new poster and video teaser combo for Disney+’s upcoming The Impossible Heir, introducing the main trio at the center of our chaebol succession battle: Lee Jae-wook (Death’s Game), Jun (a.k.a. Lee Jun-young) (May I Help You), and Hong Su-ju (Sweet Home 2).

We open the teaser with Na Hye-won’s (Hong Su-ju) voiceover, when she asked, “Aren’t you curious? What each of us will appear to be, ten years from now?” But life hasn’t been easy for our three leads and every day is a struggle when you’ve been labeled as an outcast in so-called proper society.

Han Tae-oh (Lee Jae-wook), for instance, has been trying to hide from the world and we hear the salacious gossip in voiceover that Tae-oh’s dad murdered Tae-oh’s mom. Kang In-ha (Jun) faces constant rejection from his chaebol family, who sneer at In-ha for smelling different as an illegitimate child. All the while Hye-won tries to deny even having a mom, as she’s harassed by loan sharks for the money her runaway mom owes.

Similarly at a breaking point, our trio decide that enough is enough and a steely-eyed In-ha proposes “to take revenge on the people who looked down on us and made our lives difficult.” An amused Tae-oh chuckles that, “it’s a humble dream,” before revealing his grander – and more specific – plan: “We’re going to make you President Kang In-ha of the Kang-oh Group.”

Immediately impressed, In-ha confesses, “This is why I can’t help but love Han Tae-oh.” Hye-won agrees to participate as well, revealing her ambition to make the Kang-oh Group hers in both the present and the future. As she takes In-ha’s hand as his significant other, we then read the trio’s united goal in the appearing text screens, to rise from the bottom to the highest place.

Reassuring his friends, a confident Tae-oh declares, “Don’t worry. I’m going to make it happen perfectly.” We then watch as Tae-oh transforms from neighborhood cutie to slick corporate exec and the teaser closes as Tae-oh updates the team, “I’ll get straight to the point. Our plan has finally begun.”

Directed by PD Min Yeon-hong (Insider, Missing: The Other Side) with scripts by Choi Won, Disney+’s The Impossible Heir will be coming to our screens on February 28.

Climbing the rope to make Lee Jun-young The Impossible Heir

by tccolb

New posters and teasers have arrived for Disney+’s crime-suspense The Impossible Heir, delving deeper into the psyches of our three leads, played by Lee Jae-wook (Death’s Game), Lee Jun-young (May I Help You), and Hong Su-ju (Sweet Home 2).

We begin with our hero Han Tae-oh (Lee Jae-wook) transferring to a new school, where rumors abound that Tae-oh’s dad killed Tae-oh’s mom. But Tae-oh isn’t intimidated by his fellow students and firmly calls out Kang In-ha (Lee Jun-young) on his delinquency. An impressed In-ha extends a hand of friendship, but Tae-oh proposes a partnership instead.

Tae-oh admits honestly that, “I want to use you as a rope to climb into the major leagues,” and, in return, he’ll make In-ha the president of his family’s conglomerate. In-ha scoffs, wondering what kind of power Tae-oh wields, and Tae-oh replies, “I have something stronger: desperation.”

It’s a double-edged sword that dad from another life Chairman Choi Jin-ho (See You in My 19th Life) understands well, noting that there’s nothing Tae-oh can’t do and there’s nothing that he won’t do also. But Tae-oh has already resolved to pay the price for achieving their goal and reassures In-ha to trust in Tae-oh’s clear vision.

In In-ha’s teaser, we learn that he’s an illegitimate child of the Kang-Oh Group and he acted out in his school days, justifying his behavior to his high-but-low upbringing. Now an adult, In-ha tries to push for the family’s official acceptance, but he’s only met by fury and disdain. Kim Ho-jung (Queenmaker) then tries to coerce In-ha into signing away his inheritance and connection to the conglomerate.

In-ha is angry but understands their ploy to remove potential obstacles from their succession plans. But Tae-ho encourages In-ha to not back down, warning that any hesitation could end the game. Boosting his spirits, Tae-ho reminds him that, “Kang In-ha is Chairman Kang Joon-mo’s (Choi Jin-ho) third son. He’s sincere, but not naive. This is Kang In-ha. Let’s go. This is the beginning.”

Last but not least, we meet Na Hye-won (Hong Su-ju) knee deep in studying when she’s atrociously interrupted by a lady demanding money – who must be mom but yikes! She’s then accosted by mom’s debt collectors at school, but Hye-won rebuffs Tae-oh’s interference, explaining that this happens often and she’ll never run away or hide.

In-ha takes a notice to Hye-won as well, wondering why she’s always alone and if she has any friends. Hye-won replies that they can all be friends and she connects with Tae-oh afterwards, realizing that In-ha is a golden rope for Tae-oh and she wants in as well. She thus agrees to marry In-ha and seat him on the Kang-Oh throne.

Written by Choi Won with PD Min Yeon-hong (Insider, Missing: The Other Side) at the helm, Disney+’s The Impossible Heir premieres later this month on February 28.
