Ahn Bo Hyun Makes Drastic Transformation From Extravagant Chaebol To Ordinary Citizen In “Flex x Cop”

Ahn Bo Hyun Makes Drastic Transformation From Extravagant Chaebol To Ordinary Citizen In “Flex x Cop”

SBS’s “Flex x Cop” unveiled new stills ahead of the upcoming episode!

“Flex x Cop” is about immature third-generation chaebol Jin Yi Soo (Ahn Bo Hyun) who becomes a detective due to his privileged background and Lee Kang Hyun (Park Ji Hyun), a workaholic veteran detective who is also the first female team leader in the Homicide Department.

Spoilers

The previous episode captured Jin Yi Soo tackling a murder case at the art gallery after successfully solving the yacht murder case. With a growing list of suspects, Jin Yi Soo considered the victim’s teaching assistant Kwon Do Joon (Park Se Joon) to be suspicious. After heading off to find him on his own, Jin Yi Soo was unexpectedly attacked, raising anticipation for the next episode.

The newly released stills capture Jin Yi Soo at a bank. Although viewers are relieved to see him safe and sound after the attack, they are also curious about his shocking transformation. Gone are his slick-back hair and eye-catching luxurious suit, and instead, he sports a casual hairstyle and a prim looking pair of glasses. Not to mention, Jin Yi Soo is wearing a plain suit, which is in stark contrast to his usual preference for non-boring attire.

With the upcoming episode teasing unexpected twists in the art gallery murder case, viewers are highly anticipating how Jin Yi Soo will tackle the mystery by flexing his wealth.

The next episode of “Flex x Cop” airs on February 16 at 10 p.m. KST.

Flex x Cop: Episodes 5-6

by DaebakGrits

In what are my favorite episodes yet, we see our chaebol learn what it means to be a team player, and as our drama settles into its murder-of-the-week formula, our detectives work together to solve not one — but two — murders.

EPISODES 5-6

Last week, after foolishly meeting one on one with Sweaty Assistant, the prime suspect in Team One’s latest investigation, Yi-soo was hit on the head, and his prone body fell to the floor. Thankfully, Yi-soo is as hard-headed (literally!) as he is wealthy, and the blunt force trauma didn’t knock him unconscious. Instead, he bounds to his feet, uses this confrontation as another opportunity to brag about his professional MMA skills, and deftly deflects Sweaty Assistant’s pathetic punches. Sweaty Assistant quickly realizes that he’s no match for Yi-soo without the element of surprise, and with the fight gone out of him, he spins his tale of woe and tries to justify his violent actions.

Yi-soo, however, has very little sympathy for Sweaty Assistant because, unlike Angry Mother’s daughter, Sweaty Assistant wasn’t an innocent victim. He was the one who plagiarized his peer’s paintings that sold under the art professor’s name, and he did it hoping to one day gain his own fame and notoriety by riding on Art Professor’s coattails. Sweaty Assistant only took issue with the arrangement when Art Professor failed to hold up his end of the bargain and blocked Sweaty Assistant’s path from studying abroad. Although Yi-soo’s frank assessment of the situation is accurate, he lacks tact and the social awareness to realize that this is neither the time nor place to be dishing out harsh truths. Yi-soo’s words push the mentally unwell Sweaty Assistant over a metaphorical ledge, and he stabs himself in the stomach.

Kang-hyun arrives to find Yi-soo applying pressure to Sweaty Assistant’s stab wound. It’s clear she’s displeased with Yi-soo, but she forgoes the RickRoll'D-chewing until after the paramedics have carted Sweaty Assistant to the hospital. Unfortunately, Yi-soo is either too dense to understand why Kang-hyun is so upset, or he ignorantly assumes that her latest scolding stems from her pre-established prejudices.

Either way, Yi-soo wants to understand the situation better, so he treats Kyung-jin to an expensive dinner, hoping the rookie will give him insights into where he went wrong and why Kang-hyun hates him so much. Kyung-jin explains that Yi-soo acted recklessly when he failed to tell Kang-hyun he had a lead in the case and was meeting with a suspect alone. Yi-soo is — technically, even though he isn’t treated as such — part of a team, and Yi-soo’s failure to follow procedure caused someone to get injured.

As for the giant chip on Kang-hyun’s shoulder, well, Kyung-jin says that’s for her to explain — or it would be if Yi-soo didn’t loosen Kyung-jin’s lips with some expensive wine. Long story short: her father was (falsely) convicted of accepting bribes, and even though Kang-hyun has proved herself an extremely competent detective, there are many who look down on her and distrust her because of her father’s history.

Now that Yi-soo understands where he went wrong, and why Kang-hyun is hell-bent on following the rules to appease her superiors despite her impressive arrest record, Yi-soo starts playing by the book. So when additional sleuthing reveals that Sweaty Assistant was not the one who delivered the final, deadly stab wound that killed Art Professor, Yi-soo follows the proper procedures. He alerts Kang-hyun when he learns that Art Professor usually kept the key to his safety deposit box on his person at all times. And since it was missing at the scene of the crime, the real murderer is likely his widow, who also sent Sweaty Assistant on an errand to buy the scarf that initially made him the prime suspect.

One quick undercover sting operation later, Yi-soo has solved yet another murder, but the case isn’t truly closed until the wrongs made against Angry Mother’s daughter are righted. Yi-soo personally arranges for the art gallery to host a posthumous exhibit of her paintings, and Angry Mother tearfully thanks him for his kind act. It’s the first time someone calls Yi-soo “detective,” and he likes the sound of it.

SBS’s “Flex x Cop” has unveiled new stills ahead of the upcoming broadcast!

Spoilers

Previously, Jin Yi Soo, Lee Kang Hyun, Park Joon Young (Kang Sang Joon), and Choi Kyung Jin (Kim Shin Bi) chased after serial killers who approached elderly that were living alone. Kang Hyun’s father Lee Hyung Joon (Kwon Hae Hyo) joined the team to bait the scammers, and they succeeded in capturing the criminals. In the process, Kang Hyun also acknowledged Yi Soo as a member of the team.

The newly released stills tease the shocking change in the relationship between Yi Soo and Joon Young. In the photos, Yi Soo and Joon Young are spending time to themselves at the beach. Joon Young sports a luxurious suit while Yi Soo smiles at him warmly, creating a heartwarming atmosphere while also leaving viewers somewhat confused.

More stills hint at the drastic change in their relationship. Joon Young tightly grabs on to Yi Soo’s hands and even lifts him in his arms in a princess carry, much to Yi Soo’s surprise. Viewers are curious to find out what leads to such a situation.

Flex x Cop: Episodes 7-8

by DaebakGrits

Our detective team takes on their strangest case yet, and the cast of suspects includes some people with intimate knowledge of our chaebol. The closer our detectives get to identifying the murderer, the closer our chaebol comes to learning the truth behind his mother’s death.

EPISODES 7-8

Called to investigate a new murder, Team One arrives on the scene full of swagger – except for Yi-soo, who’s still squeamish around dead bodies. Kang-hyun is catching on to his PTSD, remembering how he reacted when he joined her in the autopsy room for the first time, so Yi-soo musters up some bravado to prove he’s not a wimp and moves closer to the body. Once he allows himself to really look at the victim, he recognizes the dead man as an IT legend and the CEO of a security firm who was recently on the cover of Business magazine. Unfortunately, according to IT Legend’s grieving widow, his success had taken a rapid decline, and the red stickers around their home, marking items set for repossession, confirm her story.

Shortly before his death, IT Legend told his wife that he feared for his life, believing someone was out to kill him, but back in the autopsy room, there’s no immediate signs of foul play. The case has Ji-won a bit stumped because IT Legend died from — wait for it — dehydration. His cause of death is especially peculiar because he was found in an unlocked room with his cell phone and bottles of water at hand, suggesting forced imprisonment wasn’t what led to the dehydration that ultimately killed him.

As Yi-soo and Kang-hyun discuss the peculiarities of the case outside their homes, Kang-hyun realizes her mother is spying on them. She quickly shoos Yi-soo away, and with him gone, Mi-sook ambushes Kang-hyun with a knowing smile. Kang-hyun gives an annoyed sigh, and explains that Yi-soo is part of her investigation team — not that this deters Mi-soo’s matchmaking schemes. It’s actually a good thing that they’re in the same profession and work closely together.

The next morning, Mi-soo has a front row seat to watch Yi-soo and Kang-hyun simultaneously head to work — separately because Kang-hyun is all too aware of her mother’s prying eyes. Yi-soo sensed Mi-sook watching, too, and he was so unnerved by her grin and coy wave that he asks Kang-hyun about it when he arrives at work. Kang-hyun, of course, plays dumb. She was just smiling at Kang-hyun. Nothing weird about that.

Even though the matchmaking mother is a common trope in K-dramas, I like its use here. Kang-hyun may be a cat-loving softie at heart, but she’s more focused on her career than romance — however, mother has now planted a seed. The more Kang-hyun tries to prevent it from growing, the more attention she will inadvertently give to it, and I’m curious to see how her internal fight plays out once she starts seeing Yi-soo in a romantic light. (*grabs a tub of popcorn* Okay, I’m ready.)

Mi-sook may be a fan of Yi-soo, but Jun-young is finding petty ways to show he still hasn’t fully welcomed Yi-soo to the team, like angling the computer monitor so Yi-soo can’t watch the black box footage retrieved from IT Legend’s car. So when two new leads cause our team to pair off to divide and conquer, Jun-young questions why Kang-hyun would partner up with Yi-soo again. Kang-hyun counters by reminding him that if it wasn’t her chaperoning the chaebol then it would have to be him — Jun-young makes a face that says how much he loathes the idea — or Kyung-jin. (Meaningful cut to Kyung-jin, who is all too eager to get fake arrested by Yi-soo and his new gold handcuffs.) So yeah, nut up or shut up, Jun-young.

Kang-hyun and Yi-soo roll up to a posh psychiatric clinic to interview the last known person to speak with IT Legend before his death, but the famous psychiatrist refuses to divulge the details of IT Legend’s illness without a warrant. What she does offer, however, is a theory that IT Legend, who was prone to seizures, might have fallen unconscious and subsequently died of dehydration. Famous Psychiatrist also confirms that he sounded panicked on the phone when she last talked to him, and he feared someone was out to kill him, which matches the widow’s account of IT Legend’s last moments.

Meanwhile, Jun-young and Kyung-jin identified the suspicious man caught arguing with IT Legend on the black box footage from his car as a security technician who worked at IT Legend’s company. And the rumor around the company is that Security Technician was blackmailing IT Legend. Jun-young and Kyung-jin’s investigation leads them to Security Technician’s home, but they are too late to ask him any questions. He’s dead — murdered — and based on the graphic and disgusting decomposition, he was killed sometime before IT Legend went into hiding from an unknown threat.

Team One gets another lead in the case when they run a fingerprint analysis on the large duffle bags of money found in Security Technician’s apartment. And who is the new suspect? Well, it’s Yi-soo’s extremely temperamental ex-girlfriend (cameo by Ahn Bo-hyun’s See You in My 19th Life co-star Ha Yoon-Kyung). Given Yi-soo’s connection with the suspect, the rest of Team One decides that Yi-soo is the best candidate to interview her — and their devious smiles as they appoint him as their emissary has nothing (okay, everything) to do with the fact that they all just watched the humiliating viral video of Yi-soo’s break-up.

The breakup video was just a teaser for the epic verbal sparring between Yi-soo and Temperamental Ex, and these two together are comedic gold. When Yi-soo greets her, Temperamental Ex smugly informs Yi-soo that she’s getting married, and Yi-soo deadpans — in what is perhaps my favorite line of dialogue in this drama thus far — that he’d like to send the unfortunate groom some condolence flowers.

Not the best opening for an interview, but when Yi-soo flashes his police badge and asks about the bag of money with her fingerprints all over it, Temperamental Ex admits that she was being blackmailed by Security Technician. She, too, was a patient at the posh psychiatric clinic, and she paid him off because she’d prefer it if her future husband and in-laws never find out about her mental health.

With no competition from MBC last weekend (as it was showing the TV movie version of its highest rated Fri-Sat drama "Knight Flower" on Friday and a preview of "Wonderful World" on Saturday, the rating for "Flex X Cop" broke 10% and soared to 11.0% at the mid-point of the series. This also represents the first time SBS's Fri-Sat drama reaches double digit rating since "Revenant" last July.

With 4 more weeks to go, it does look like this serial will continue its upward trajectory in the ratings table.

Flex x Cop: Episodes 9-10

by DaebakGrits

Our chaebol has regained his memories, and all he wants to do is disappear and lick his wounds. Murderers are going to keep on killing, though, and when his friend becomes the prime suspect in our detectives’ latest case, our chaebol comes out of hiding to do what he does best: charm people with his smile and money.

EPISODES 9-10

Now that Yi-soo correctly remembers the night his mother died — courtesy of the vindictive doctor skilled in hypnotism — he wastes no time confronting his father, who doesn’t even bother playing dumb. Yes, he had the doctor alter Yi-soo’s traumatic memories so that he could recover from his aphasia and have a normal childhood (false Truck of Doom memories notwithstanding).

Although Chairman Jin claims he loved Yi-soo’s mother — and flashbacks seem to concur that his affection was genuine — Yi-soo calls RickRoll'D. Kicking a pregnant woman to the curb is definitely not one of the five love languages, and Yi-soo blames his mother’s suicide on Chairman Jin’s unwillingness to set aside his ambitions to be with Yi-soo’s mother. The neglect must have lead to her depression and suicide.

After saying his peace, Yi-soo storms out of the room. Seung-joo is waiting. Too emotional to accept his brother’s offered consolation, Yi-soo makes a polite escape so he can marinate in his feels for a little bit. His drive home is full of angst and artistic bokeh to really emphasize that he’s in a dark place. (Sidenote: Moody solo drives are infinitely more relatable as a means of isolated brooding than the dramatic pool scenes from See You in My 19th Life.)

At home, Yi-soo can’t bring himself to go inside, so he sits on his stoop, looking like a dejected puppy as he silently cries outside his childhood home. When Kang-hyun discovers him, she immediately knows something is wrong and takes him to her special place where she goes to think when she has a lot on her mind. Together, they gaze out over the night cityscape. Yi-soo’s on the verge of telling her what he’s learned about his mother’s death when Kang-hyun admits she already looked into it and knows the truth. His mother suffered from depression and died from a sleeping pill overdose.

Poor Yi-soo. Despite his earlier confrontation with his father, he wonders if her death was because of him. After all, it must have been hard for her to raise Yi-soo on her own, but Kang-hyun tells him to not think like that. The people who are left behind always seek answers, but the reality is that there are none. It’s in the past, and nothing can change what happened.

Kang-hyun leaves Yi-soo to his thoughts so she can meet up with Ki-suk, who is still itching to write an article about Yi-soo’s mother. Kang-hyun, never one for small talk or making nice with scum, gets right to the point. She tells him to drop the bone he has against Yi-soo, and if he plays nice, she will give him the scoop on Team One’s next case.

It’s as though the universe heard Kang-hyun make a deal with Ki-suk, because Team One is assigned the juicy, high profile murder of a leading actress. In yet another instance of it’s-a-small-dramaland-after-all, the victim is the same actress that Yi-soo briefly met (a few episodes ago) before ditching her — and his dumb druggie friend — to have dinner with Team One. And guess who’s the prime suspect? That’s right, Dumb Druggie, who was found covered in blood at the murder scene.

Initially, Yi-soo was going to sit this case out in order to take some “personal time,” as Kang-hyun explained to Jun-young (who was totally missing his favorite annoying chaebol). He’s overwhelmed by memories and misplaced guilt, and not even Jung-hoon’s assurances that Yi-soo was very much loved and wanted by his mother can rouse Yi-soo’s desire to resume detective work.

But, predictably, Yi-soo is pulled into the case after Dumb Druggie is hauled into the police station and calls Yi-soo, fully expecting his chaebol-turned-cop buddy to bail him out. Or, at the very least, point the investigation to other suspects. He didn’t kill her, Dumb Druggie swears! He just did some drugs and passed out so hard he didn’t hear a woman being murdered.

After hearing Dumb Druggie’s alibi — if you can call it that — Yi-soo’s displeasure and disappointment are palpable. Even so, he tells Kang-hyun that he thinks Dumb Druggie is innocent. Are you saying that because he’s your friend, or do you feel that way as a detective? she asks. But either way she’s inclined to agree. As far as she can tell, Dumb Druggie had no motive to kill Leading Actress, and that bugs her.

Park Ji Hyun Goes Undercover As A Cult Member In “Flex X Cop”

Park Ji Hyun Goes Undercover As A Cult Member In “Flex X Cop”

Park Ji Hyun is about to undertake a dangerous mission on SBS’s “Flex x Cop”!

“Flex x Cop,” which marks the reunion of former “Yumi’s Cells” co-stars Ahn Bo Hyun and Park Ji Hyun, tells the story of an immature third-generation chaebol heir who winds up becoming a detective.

Spoilers

On the previous episode of “Flex x Cop,” Jin Yi Soo (Ahn Bo Hyun) and Lee Kang Hyun (Park Ji Hyun) succeeded in getting a confession out of the culprit who stalked and murdered the actress in their case. Later, Kang Hyun arranged to meet a manager from Oryun Community who wanted to become a whistleblower, but he never showed up.

The episode then ended on a shocking cliffhanger, with the manager in question found dead—and the show revealing that Kang Hyun’s father Hyung Joon (Kwon Hae Hyo) had been investigating a mass suicide at Oryun Community right before he was framed and fired from the police.

In newly released stills from the drama’s next episode, Kang Hyun goes undercover as a member of the Oryun Community cult. In addition to wearing large glasses to hide her identity, Kang Hyun does her best to look as innocent and gullible as possible—but there is a sharpness to her gaze that betrays the tense situation in which she finds herself.

One photo also shows Kang Hyun wearing meditation garb with the Oryun Community logo, suggesting she has fully entered the cult as an active member.

Park-Ji-Hyun.jpegPark-Ji-Hyun-2.jpeg

A suspenseful final photo captures the cop alone at night, looking like a secret agent. After sneaking out of her dorm while everyone is asleep, Kang Hyun takes on the dangerous task of carefully searching each and every corner of the Oryun Community.

To find out if Kang Hyun will be able to safely make it out of the cult, catch the next episode of “Flex x Cop” on March 8 at 10 p.m. KST!
