Flex x Cop: Episodes 11-12

by DaebakGrits

Another murder-of-the-week hits close to home for Team One, but this time it’s our lead detective with a personal connection to the case. When two new deaths reek of a murder cover-up, all clues point to the very cult at the center of her father’s last case.

EPISODES 11-12

After waiting until daybreak for Oryun Manager to show up at their secret rendezvous spot, Kang-hyun is called in to investigate a body found washed up on the shores of the Han River. At first glance, it appears to be a simple drowning case, but a cursory search of the body reveals a very familiar tattoo located on the dead man’s abdomen. It’s the mark of Oryun Community, the same suspected cult that, one year ago, Hyung-joon believed to be behind the mass suicide he was investigating. Hyung-joon’s case on Oryun Community, however, is what led to him being framed for accepting bribes and dismissed from his position as chief detective.

In the present, Kang-hyun and Jun-young meet with the drowning victim’s family. His mother is notably skittish and panicky when discussing Oryun Community, but his sister scoffs at any mention of the (*exaggerated air quotes*) “meditation center” that her brother joined prior to his death. And when she learns from the detectives that her brother — a skilled swimmer who’d crossed the Han River multiple times — died from drowning, she immediately demands an autopsy.

At the same time, Team Two is investigating an apparent suicide, but the dead man is none other than Oryun Manager, who definitely didn’t kill himself — no matter what the suicide note found in his pocket might say. As the last person to have spoken with Oryun Manager before his death, Kang-hyun is called in to meet with the chief detective and the leader of Team Two to explain why she had been in contact with Oryun Manager. She wasn’t harassing him — like she did after her father’s scandal — was she?

While she’s explaining the situation and her theory that he was murdered, the police captain barges in on the meeting. He — very suspiciously — knows Oryun Manager is dead despite no one telling him through the official chain of command, and Kang-hyun immediately picks up on the discrepancy, demanding to know just who told him the victim’s identity. Captain responds by putting her on probation and telling Team Leader Two and Chief Detective to hurry up and rule the case a suicide. Well, I think it’s safe to say we all know who really accepted bribes and framed Hyung-joon one year ago.

Thankfully, the cult doesn’t have the entire police force on their secret payroll, and there are still detectives on Kang-hyun’s side. Team Leader Two, for example, “accidentally” leaves his case files unattended so Kang-hyun can take a peek (and pictures) of them before she clocks out and starts her own off-the-books investigation. And when Team Leader Two asks to keep the case open for a little longer before ruling it a suicide, Chief Detective approves the extension. It probably helps that they both witnessed Captain’s totally sus behavior, but either way, we can count on them (along with Team One) to be among the good guys.

Meanwhile, Yi-soo, who took some personal time to visit his mother’s urn and make peace with her death, returns to the station to find out that Kang-hyun has been put on probation. Frustratingly, Jun-young still hasn’t accepted Yi-soo as part of the team, which not only hurts Yi-soo’s feelings but forces him to revert back to his dumb chaebol persona in order to kiss Captain’s RickRoll'D and find out why Captain put Kang-hyun on probation.

After that whole exchange, I felt like Yi-soo needed to take a shower and rinse off all the RickRoll'D. It really is a testament to how far Yi-soo has come as a character that we can now see past his facade and feel sad for him when he has to revert back to it. At the same time, his ability to charm and manipulate people is one of the many (and much needed) skills he brings to the table. In the game of “good” cop versus “bad” cop, Kang-hyun and Jun-young are both very much “bad” cops, and they need Yi-soo as their foil to soften people and make them more willing to talk. It makes for a great symbiotic relationship, and once Jun-young unwads his whitey-tighties, he will see what an asset Yi-soo is for the team.

“Flex x Cop” is about immature third-generation chaebol Jin Yi Soo (Ahn Bo Hyun) who becomes a detective due to his privileged background and Lee Kang Hyun (Park Ji Hyun), a workaholic veteran detective who is also the first female team leader in the Homicide Department.

Spoilers

The discovery of his body sent shockwaves through both Jin Yi Soo’s family and his investigative team. The mystery surrounding the man’s identity and the purpose of his visit to Jin Myung Cheol’s (Jang Hyun Sung) home while on the brink of death continues to unravel.

In the newly released stills, Jin Yi Soo, Lee Kang Hyun, Park Joon Young (Kang Sang Joon), and Choi Kyung Jin (Kim Shin Bi) arrive at the scene and start their investigation. Flex x Cop: Episodes 13-14

by DaebakGrits

When a man drops dead outside our chaebol’s family home, our detectives are more motivated than ever to find the killer, but in the back of everyone’s mind is the fear that maybe someone from our chaebol’s family is involved.

EPISODES 13-14

After closing the murderous cult case and restoring Hyung-joon’s reputation, life at the police station returns to normal — aside from the fact that Hyung-joon is now a senior superintendent and Team One’s boss. And the fact that Yi-soo and Jun-young are now using banmal and trying to not make a big deal about it. And the fact that Kang-hyun’s eyes linger after Yi-soo when he leaves a room because she’s totally thinking about their near-death experience and how he gave her mouth-to-mouth. Okay, so a lot has changed in the last few days, but nothing that’s going to threaten Team One’s camaraderie or prevent them from being a kick-RickRoll'D detective squad. (Right? Right?!)

About that… Team One is assigned their next murder case, and the victim’s body was found on the grounds of Chairman Jin’s house. No one was more surprised than Yi-soo when Kang-hyun parked her dirt-mobile outside his father’s house. Some of his initial fear is alleviated when Kang-hyun assures him that their latest victim is an outsider — not one of his family members — but there’s still the very real possibility that someone in his family could be involved. That thought weighs heavily — but unspoken — on everyone’s minds.

Yi-soo’s noticeably reserved when he enters his family home and struggles to retain his objectivity. Of course, he can always count on his stepmother to put him in his place. Hee-ja, who’s nursing her shock with a large glass of wine, immediately goes on the verbal attack when she sees Yi-soo, and for once — and in case there was any doubt that Yi-soo was off his game — he doesn’t have a witty comeback locked and loaded. Instead, Kang-hyun deftly intervenes and reminds Yi-soo’s evil step-mother that they’re investigating a murder and need to ask her some questions.

Hee-ja, like the rest of Yi-soo’s family, claims she doesn’t know the dead guy, but it’s kind of hard to believe that there isn’t a hidden personal connection. After all, the victim drove himself to their house, climbed over a wall, and died on their front lawn from a wound that, according to Ji-won, would not have been fatal if he’d driven himself to a hospital instead. Jun-young, who knows a little bit about knife wounds, muses aloud that Wall Climber must have had a strong reason for ignoring the pain and driving himself to Chairman Jin’s house.

Ji-won gives Jun-young a look — part curiosity, part smoldering intensity — and Jun-young explains he was stabbed once. Then she — omo! — asks to see his scar! Given Jun-young’s momentary shyness, I thought for sure we were about to glimpse some chocolate abs and amp up the sexual tension in the admittedly awkward setting of the autopsy room, but Jun-young lifts his shirt sleeve and flashes his upper bicep instead. A bit anticlimactic after all the verbal foreplay, but the unintended comedy of the scene tickled my funny bone. These two are killin’ me!

As the case progresses, Team One discovers Wall Climber was a gambler who owed some gangsters a lot of money, and they ponder the possibility that he was stabbed in order to motivate him to pay his debts. But then Wall Climber’s phone records come in, and the last number he dialed belonged to Seung-joo. (Nooooooooooooo! Say it isn’t so, Seung-joo!)

Yi-soo volunteers to question his brother, and this time Seung-joo recognizes Wall Climber as someone he’d met and exchanged business cards with at the publication party for Chairman Jin’s autobiography. Seung-joo swears that’s the first — and last — time he met Wall Climber. Yi-soo wants to believe his brother — so do I! — but doubt lingers in the back of Yi-soo’s mind. Before leaving Hansu headquarters, Yi-soo stops by the building’s security office and requests a copy of the CCTV footage on the day of the publication party. It’s true Wall Climber was at the party, but there’s also footage of Seung-joo getting aggressive with him.

SBS’s “Flex x Cop” has unveiled a suspenseful sneak peek of its upcoming season finale!

“Flex x Cop,” which marks the reunion of former “Yumi’s Cells” co-stars Ahn Bo Hyun and Park Ji Hyun, tells the story of an immature third-generation chaebol heir who winds up becoming a detective.

Spoilers

On the previous episode of “Flex x Cop,” it came to light that the culprit who killed Jin Yi Soo (Ahn Bo Hyun)’s father was none other than his brother Jin Seung Joo (Kwak Si Yang). Furthermore, this shocking truth increased the likelihood that Jin Seung Joo was also responsible for the past murder of Jin Yi Soo’s mother.

In ominous new stills from the upcoming finale of Season 1, Jin Yi Soo is splattered in blood as he sits on the floor of his home, which also happens to be the place where his mother was murdered 25 years ago. Wearing a hollow expression and seemingly drained of all his strength, Jin Yi Soo looks as though his world has just come crashing down on him.

Notably, Jin Yi Soo is also clutching a gun in one hand, piquing curiosity as to what sort of violent confrontation lies ahead in the final episode of Season 1.

The explosive and passionate performances by these two actors will be the highlight of the finale.”

They went on, “After coming face-to-face with his cruel fate, what choice will Yi Soo make? To find out, please make sure to keep an eye on the final investigations of chaebol detective Yi Soo.”

The Season 1 finale of “Flex x Cop” will air on March 23 at 9:50 p.m. KST.

Moreover, Flex X Cop consistently retained its popularity on Disney+ in Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan.

Fresh off Flex x Cops finale on March 23rd, writer Kim Ba Da spoke with OSEN in a written interview. In the interview, she shared that the upcoming season 2 will feature a romantic storyline between Ahn Bo Hyun and Park Ji Hyun’s characters.

Kim expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the show’s success. “I’m incredibly grateful to the viewers who tuned in with such interest and affection,” she shared. “It’s truly rewarding to see my work resonate with audiences. It’s been a wonderful two months.”

She elaborated on her vision for the drama, stating, “I wanted to create a light and engaging investigative drama. Even though the cases involved murder, I wanted the stories to be resolved within two episodes and avoid a heavy or overly serious tone. In the end, I think it leaned more towards a classic mystery format than a technical investigative drama.”

Kim also showered praise on the show’s cast. “I’m deeply grateful to all the actors,” she said. “Ahn Bo Hyun brought the charming Jin Yi Soo to life, and Park Ji Hyun did an amazing job portraying a warm-hearted and righteous detective.”

But the biggest tease came when Kim hinted at a potential romance between the lead characters in season 2. “Detective Jin Yi-soo will definitely be back in season 2,” she revealed, “and he’ll have more freedom to operate. With the family secrets and his mother’s death resolved in season 1, season 2 will have lighter, more entertaining stories.”

She then upped the anticipation for the next season by adding, “Season 2 will see the romance between Yi Soo and Kang Hyun really take off.”
