jTBC’s exciting new medical drama, Doctor Slump, is reportedly coming to Netflix soon. Filming is still ongoing, and we’re currently just waiting for official confirmation from Netflix when Doctor Slump will be released. For now, here’s everything we know so far about Doctor Slump, including the plot, cast, filming updates, and release date.

Doctor Slump is an upcoming South Korean romantic comedy medical drama written by screenwriter Baek Sun Woo, and directed by Oh Hyun Jong. The series will also be a reunion for Park Shin Hye, and Park Hyung Sik who previously acted on-screen together in the popular K-drama The Heirs.

 

We have reached out to Netflix for confirmation that Doctor Slump is a part of their 2023 release slate.

 

When would Doctor Slump be released on Netflix?

We were previously led to believe that Doctor Slump was scheduled to begin broadcasting on the South Korean cable television network jTBC on Saturday, October 30th, 2023. However, it now looks like the release date has been pushed back to 2024.

What is the plot of Doctor Slump?

We have two synopses for the K-drama.

The first synopsis has been sourced from My Drama List:

A rom-com about doctors who are in a slump as they try to resuscitate their lives. Their story captures the love and growth of two characters who live in a rooftop house after quitting their jobs as doctors.

The second synopsis has been sourced from the site allkpop:

The story revolves around two individuals in their darkest hours of life. First, there’s the once top-tier plastic surgeon Yeo Jung Woo (Park Hyungsik), whose perfect life goes downhill after a surgical accident. Opposite him, an anesthesiologist Nam Ha Neul (Park Shin Hye) one day realizes that outside of her busy work schedule in the hospital, her life has no meaning.

Who are the cast members of Doctor Slump?

It’s going to be a reunion for The Heirs alumni for actress Park Shin Hye, and actor Park Hyung Sik. Park Shin Hye has been cast in the lead role of Nam Ha Neul which will be her first lead role in a Netflix series for almost five years after previously starring in Memories of the Alhambra. She also starred in the zombie horror #Alive, in the role of Kim Yoo Bin, and in The Call as Kim Seo Yeon.

Park Hyung Sik is an extremely popular actor and is most well known for his leading roles in shows such as Strong Woman Do Bong Soon, the South Korean adaptation of Suits, Happiness, and Soundtrack #1.

The last remaining lead actors in the series are Yoon Park and actress Kong Seong Ha. Yoon Park has been cast in the role of Bin Dae Young. He has previously starred in multiple Netflix series such as Forecasting Love and Weather, You Are My Spring, Mystic Pop-Up Bar, and Itaewon Class.

Relative newcomer Kong Seong Ha will be making her Netflix debut and leading role debut in Doctor Slump when she takes on the role of Lee Hong Ran. She will also star in the upcoming Netflix series Daily Dose of Sunshine.

Rounding out the remaining cast members are actress Jang Hye Jin and actor Hyun Bong Sik. Jang Hye Jin plays the role of Nam Ha Neul’s mother. Meanwhile, Hyun Bong Shik’s role remains unnamed.

Official Production Status: Filming (Last Updated: 05/10/2023)

Filming reportedly began in the middle of March 2023, and is currently scheduled to end by late July 2023. But, as of October 5th, 2023 filming is still ongoing.

Upcoming JTBC drama “Doctor Slump” is gearing up for its premiere!

 

“Doctor Slump” is a romantic comedy that follows the story of Yeo Jung Woo (Park Hyung Sik) and Nam Ha Neul (Park Shin Hye) as they try to resuscitate their lives when they fall into a slump after only having followed successful paths. The two rivals who hate each other will reunite in the darkest period of their lives and become each other’s light, delivering smiles, excitement, and heartwarming comfort along the way.

 

“Doctor Slump” also marks the reunion between Park Hyung Sik and Park Shin Hye in a drama for the first time in 10 years since their hit project “Heirs.” The drama will be helmed by director Oh Hyun Jong of “Find Me in Your Memory” and “Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo” and written by scriptwriter Baek Sun Woo of “What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim.”

 

Along with director Oh Hyun Jong and scriptwriter Baek Sun Woo, actors Park Hyung Sik, Park Shin Hye, Yoon Bak, Jang Hye Jin, Hyun Bong Sik, Yoon Sang Hyun, Oh Dong Min, Park Won Ho, Kang Sang Joon, Jung Ji Soon, and more were present.

 

 

Already, Park Hyung Sik and Park Shin Hye showcased fantastic chemistry at their reunion. Park Hyung Sik plays Yeo Jung Woo, a star plastic surgeon who falls into the greatest slump of his life. Having been the top student of his entire school, Yeo Jung Woo attended the best medical school, and he became a star doctor with great skills and outstanding character. However, he gets pushed to the edge following a mysterious medical accident. Park Hyung Shik captivated with his portrayal of his character’s wide berth of emotions at the script reading.

 

 

Park Shin Hye stars as anesthesiologist Nam Ha Neul who is experiencing burnout syndrome. Having been called a genius since a young age, she lived her life immersed in her studies. Even as an adult, she is a workaholic doctor, living a life without fun and without knowing how to do anything except study and work.

 

However, she suddenly resolves to change one day while looking back on her broken life. Park Shin Hye captivated with her passionate acting and realistic portrayal.

 

 

Yoon Bak will take on the role of the pretentious plastic surgeon Bin Dae Young. He has a one-sided sense of rivalry with the successful Yeo Jung Woo, who attended the same college as him, but he is also a figure who understands Yeo Jung Woo better than anyone else. Yoon Bak impressed by showcasing diverse acting that highlighted Bin Dae Young’s sincere yet slick personality.

Gong Sung Ha will play Nam Ha Neul’s best friend and anesthesiologist Lee Hong Ran who has been with Nam Ha Neul from her college days to her residency days. She becomes strangely intertwined with Bin Dae Young, who is similar to her despite the obvious differences. Gong Sung Ha was greatly in sync with her energetic character Lee Hong Ran.

Furthermore, talented actors Jang Hye Jin, Hyun Bong Sik, and Yoon Sang Hyun will play members of Nam Ha Neul’s family. Jang Hye Jin plays Nam Ha Neul’s mother Gong Wol Sun, while Hyun Bong Sik plays Nam Ha Neul’s uncle Gong Tae Sun. Yoon Sang Hyun will take on the role of Nam Ha Neul’s younger brother Nam Ba Da.

 

In addition to the three, there is Oh Dong Min as Min Kyung Min, who is intertwined with both Yeo Jung Woo and Nam Ha Neul. Yeo Jung Woo’s two friends will be portrayed by Park Won Ho, who plays Kim Mu Geun, and Kang Sang Joon, who plays Son Chan Young. Jung Ji Soon will play the role of a homeroom teacher.

JTBC's Doctor Slump gears up for release. 

On December 5, the production team of Doctor Slump unveiled pics from the script reading session attended by director Oh Hyun Jong, writer Baek Sun Woo, actors Park Hyung Sik, Park Shin Hye, Yoon Park, Kong Seong Ha, Jang Hye Jin, Hyun Bong Sik, Yoon Sang Hyun, Oh Dong Min, Park Won Ho, Kang Sang Jun, Jung Ji Soon, and others.

Doctor Slump is an upcoming rom-com that tells the story of two doctors in a slump, trying to steer their lives out of the darkness. 

What has fans anticipating the K-drama is the chemistry between two of the most beloved Korean stars, Park Hyung Sik and Park Shin Hye, who reunite ten years after working together in the 2013 hit series The Heirs. 

Park Hyung Sik plays Yeo Jeong Woo, a star plastic surgeon who falls into a slump due to a medical accident. He was always a top student and is well-known for his skills and personality. 

Park Shin Hye takes the role of Nam Ha Neul, an anesthesiologist suffering from burnout. She dedicated herself to her studies and had a bright mind since childhood. 

Yoon Park plays Bin Dae Young, a plastic surgeon who considers Yeo Jeong Woo his rival from their university days. But, he understands Jeong Woo better than anyone else.
