Behind Your Touch: Episodes 15-16 (Final)

by lovepark

One fateful night, a meteor shower and a special cow changed the lives of our heroes — for better or worse — and turned their quiet little town upside down. Now that chapter in their stories comes to an end as they chase after a serial killer, make amends, and march towards a brighter future. While I won’t say Behind Your Touch had a satisfying conclusion, at least the overall journey was entertaining.

EPISODES 15-16

Picking up from last week, Ye-boon returns to the scene of the crime and finds Sun-woo bleeding on the ground. The poncho killer waits nearby in the shadows, but before they attack, the police arrive. By the time Jang-yeol joins them, the shock of Sun-woo’s death leaves him numb, but his worries turn to Ye-boon who becomes a key witness as well as a prime suspect.

Though he tries to intervene for her sake, Ye-boon thrusts aside his concern, and glaring at him, she asks if he is finally satisfied now that Sun-woo is dead. Her unwarranted lambasting clearly hurts him, but Jang-yeol continues to fight for Ye-boon’s innocence to the point of disciplinary action.

Despite receiving a one-month suspension, Jang-yeol resumes his investigation thanks to the support from his detective team. He even borrows a car from them, and this small happenstance gives him the answer to Gwang-shik’s dying message: the blackouts can be faked using sunglasses in the dark.

Jang-yeol notifies Ye-boon of his discovery, but she remains hostile towards him and yells at him to leave her alone. With a heavy heart, she drops by Shaman Park’s place to bring a gift for Sun-woo’s funeral, but right before her eyes, she sees Jang-yeol’s warning. Without thinking things through, Ye-boon touches the shaman’s butt and learns that he was the poncho killer all along. (You know what happened to Gwang-shik, so why would you make the same mistake!?)

Luckily— or more like conveniently — Shaman Park decides to spare her life as penance for killing her grandpa, but his crocodile tears suggest that he is merely toying with her. Like Ye-boon, Shaman Park has psychometric powers, and can read people’s memories through eye contact. He knows that she has no concrete evidence to tie him to the murders, so for now, he lets her go under the condition that she stay out of his way.

Despite Shaman Park keeping a watchful eye on her, Ye-boon manages to trick him and pass along a message to Jang-yeol. From the shaman’s memories, she saw Sun-woo’s dying message — the passcode to his phone — and the detectives get hold of an incriminating recording where Shaman Park admits to being the poncho killer.

With Shaman Park in custody, all seems well as Ye-boon and Jang-yeol send Sun-woo off, and they share a moment together, just the two of them — no more deaths or a serial killer looming over their heads. She apologizes for her earlier behavior, acknowledging the fact that she blamed him even though the person she hated was herself, but Jang-yeol says that he holds some responsibility for these deaths since he was too slow to stop them.

Alas, things never go smoothly for our heroes, and Shaman Park requests Jang-yeol to interrogate him. Fully embracing the role of psychotic killer, Shaman Park tells Jang-yeol that he has no motive — his dad wasn’t even a part of the real estate scam — and merely killed for fun. The first victim was his cheating wife, and watching people’s memories fade away gave him a thrill.

However, Shaman Park did not ask for Jang-yeol specifically to simply share his story, and finally reveals his hand: let him go or else another person will die. Right on cue, Ye-boon barges into the interrogation room, and Shaman Park lets her read his memories since he left her a message. She watches in horror as he kidnaps Ok-hee and taunts Ye-boon to come find her.

Behind Your Touch recently concluded its run, leaving fans satisfied with its ending. The K-drama made our weekends fun, keeping us seated for new episodes every week.

Behind Your Touch is set in the peaceful village of Mujin, where Bong Ye Bun (Han Ji Min) serves as a veterinarian. One day, she gets a psychometry superpower which allows her to see the past of the person or animal she touches.

Enter Moon Jang Yeol (Lee Min Ki), a top detective from the violent crimes team in Seoul, who gets demoted to Mujin. In his quest to return to Seoul, he pairs up with Ye Bun. The duo initially tackles minor cases until a serial murder case emerges.

Adding intrigue to the mix is Kim Seon Woo (Suho), a newcomer to the village. He is also from Seoul and finds part-time work at a local convenience store in Mujin. With his innocent smile and kind-hearted demeanor, he appears approachable, yet there is an air of mystery around him.

Behind Your Touch is a multi-genre drama that puts com before the rom. The show did a pretty good job bringing out the organic humor, an element lost in most cinema productions. In light of this, here are some of the funniest moments that had us laughing out loud.

Note: This article may contain spoilers.

1.  Lee Min Ki Trying to Score Big

From the very start, the K-drama vividly depicts detective Moon Jang Yeol (Lee Min Ki) unhappy about being assigned to the rural village of Mujin. The moment he set foot in the town, he had already formed a negative opinion about it. Moreover, his first case of the violent crime of catching a wild cow had him baffled.

Xd8JDJ_2f.png

Frustrated by the town's bizarreness and the fact that the only crimes happening are cows running wild and onions dying from pesticides, he decides to search for major cases himself.

One of the funniest moments is when he catches wind of a potential drug supply route in Mujin. He goes around tasting all kinds of white powders from every place suspicious. In episode 2, we see Won Jong Muk (Kim Hee Won) receiving a phone call reporting that someone consumed white powder from the Hana Mart storage room, which turned out to be rat poison. Moon Jang Yeol's reaction to this news was simply priceless.

Throughout the series, Jang Yeol's efforts to crack a big case, stemming not from his sense of justice but from his desire to get back to Seoul, kept viewers amused.

2. Han Ji Min Panicking Over Hair Loss

When Bong Ye Bun (Han Ji Min) discovers that her power can actually lead to hair loss, she decides to refrain from using it, which means putting a pause on her job as a vet. As a result of this, she is sent to a fish farm by her aunt, where she grows tired of giving vaccine to the fish.

Jang Yeol, suspecting drug-related activity, raids the place and mistakes Ye Bun for a drug addict. He takes everyone to the station for investigation and instructs detectives Bae and Na to collect hair samples from the detainees for drug testing.

Upon hearing this, Ye Bun becomes frantic and adamantly refuses to let anyone near her hair. The scene was particularly hilarious because of Bong Ye Bun's disheveled appearance, which led Jang Yeol to mistake her for a drug user in the first place. Han Ji Min delivered a phenomenal performance, once again winning the hearts of her fans.

JTBC's Behind Your Touch concluded its run with a nationwide rating of 9.29%, receiving immense praise and love from fans. The K-drama was a multi-genre series incorporating comedy, suspense, thrill, and fantasy.

Behind Your Touch takes place in the rural village of Mujin, known for its crime-free environment, where a diligent veterinarian named Bong Ye Bun (Han Ji Min) unexpectedly develops psychometric abilities, allowing her to see the past of both animals and humans. She teamed up with Seoul's elite detective, Moon Jang Yeol (Lee Min Ki), who came to the village and sought Ye Bun for her extraordinary power, to solve cases.

jQroAJ_2f.png

The drama seamlessly transitioned between comedy and thrill, keeping the viewers anticipating the coming episodes.

In response to the conclusion of Behind Your Touch, Han Ji Min shared her thoughts in an interview. She portrayed the character of Bong Ye Bun, who suddenly gained psychometric abilities and unintentionally played a pivotal role in solving crimes. Her ability to evoke laughter and convey poignant emotions - when it comes to her mother's death, her grandfather's sincerity, and her concern and empathy for the victims - earned her well-deserved praise.

When asked about her thoughts on the conclusion of the K-drama, she said, "Behind Your Touch was a show that I eagerly awaited as a viewer, watching it every week. Before the first episode aired, I had concerns and nervousness about trying a genre that mixed comedy and thriller for the first time, as I wasn't sure how viewers would react, especially since comedy is a matter of personal taste. After it started airing, many people told me they found it enjoyable, and the suspenseful aspects made them curious about who the culprit might be, so I was grateful. Now that it's ended, I have mixed feelings of satisfaction and sadness".

Commenting on what it was like to play a character with psychometric abilities, she said, "What if I had superpowers?" Just the thought of it is enjoyable, isn't it? I started from that imagination. If I suddenly gained superpowers, I thought I might believe I was going crazy or consider going to the hospital. The script also portrayed these realistic aspects of Ye Bun, so it felt natural when I acted it out. When Ye Bun started actively using her abilities to find the culprit, I wondered if I would have the courage to act without hesitation and think of the victims first. So, through acting, I could somewhat satisfy my curiosity about using superpowers in the role of Ye Bun".

E5Jb2W_2f.png

Han Ji Min also revealed that only she knew who the killer was. She said, "Early in the filming, the director informed only me about the killer's identity. So, I had to keep the secret until it was revealed in the script, which was quite challenging. Even on set, the quest to find the killer was a topic of discussion, and Suho once asked me if the killer might be him. I couldn't say anything. Also, when we found out that the shaman (Park Hyuk Kwon) was the killer, it was chilling to see his innocent demeanor, and I was impressed by Park Hyuk Kwon's performance. While shooting, our set was serious, but it was also a lot of fun, and I was curious about how the scenes of finding the killer would be edited. When music was added and editing was done, I thought, 'The director must have had a plan', and I was once again impressed by his skills.

Further commenting on her memorable action scenes, she said, "For the scene where I climbed a utility pole to touch a bird, the director initially suggested that we skip that scene to spare me from difficulty. However, I thought, 'When will I ever get the chance to climb a utility pole like this?' and, 'When will I ever play a character like this?'. So, I told the director that I would do it. Then, the action team came to set, and compared to them, my action skills seemed modest. So, everyone had a good laugh. It was physically demanding, but I enjoyed it because it was something I had never done before. And the filming team was always very considerate, so I felt safe and had fun shooting".

Behind Your Touch marks Han Ji Min's third collaboration with the director. Sharing her thoughts on collaborating with him and his team again, she said, "As we continued working, we developed a better understanding of each other. We could quickly grasp each other's intentions when discussing the script, acting direction, and character development. For instance, if the director said, 'Ye Bun, you were cute'. What he meant was, 'You need to tone down your cuteness'. Both the director and I could understand each other's intentions quickly and efficiently, which helped us save a lot of time during filming. I had so much trust in the director that even if I had shortcomings, I believed he would fill those gaps, allowing me to focus solely on acting. I'm grateful for that".
