[Drama 2023] Crash Course in Romance /One Shot Scandal, 일타스캔들

Finally a better episode, even though it was serious and disturbing but lot better than watching nam haeng seon's cringey romance and weird gestures of covering mouth, rubbing thighs, acting coy, passive aggressiveness and all.

Su a's problems seem more severe than just suppressed anger. Didn't sympathize with sunjae's mom crying, even her comment about a 'vulgar and and critical society doesn't justify her behavior as she was was driven by the greed of her personal goals and hunger for a higher status.

I dunno why, whether it was the depiction was as such or is it really how it is in korean society but sun jae's suicide attempt and jeong su hyeon's suicides felt very sudden and abrupt and as if like it's something normal they should do instantly if they feel things are hard in life.

It's so unrealistic to have ink left on her hands because when surgeries are performed they disinfect or something the body, I don't remember the term, to prevent infections etc. Like it was hilarious that nhs and jae woo are going inside the icu with those gowns and gloves for germs protection but nurses haven't cleaned her hands.

Her mom's return didn't need to be portrayed as comical and anyways why was she acting like a lunatic, don't get the writers, is there a shortage of horrible characters that they are adding more.

I am not sure but were writers trying to evoke some empathy for dong hui showing his background. But a good commentary in a way that such dysfunctional parenting would only give such results.

All in all the unsaid(dunno a better way to say it) social commentary provided in this episode about parenting and korean parents' attitude towards kids' education was extremely good, wonder how many korean parents watching it would take it as a lesson.

Crash Course in Romance: Episodes 13-14

by mistyisles

https://d263ao8qih4miy.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/CCR1314-00003.jpg

Things get pretty dire as the killer hones in on his next target and the teens face an agonizing moral dilemma. Unfortunately, that means the romance — and even more so the comedy — gets moved to the back burner to make room for piecing together clues and putting everyone through the emotional wringer.

EPISODES 13-14

The high schoolers take front seat this week, starting with Hae-yi and Sun-jae realizing mid-exam that the study papers Seo-jin procured for Sun-jae were the exam itself. Sun-jae fills in the answers anyway, making him the top-scorer of the school, and bolts as soon as it’s over, unable to face Hae-yi. As for Hae-yi herself, she spends the whole time wrestling with her conscience, and ultimately turns in a blank answer sheet.

In the days that follow, Hae-yi tries repeatedly to talk to Sun-jae, hoping to convince him to confess. Truthfully, that’s what Sun-jae wants, too, but Seo-jin responds to his tearful pleas with a horribly manipulative go ahead — if you want to see me hospitalized again. All Sun-jae can do is cry in frustration and shame every time Hae-yi calls, and all Hee-jae can do is offer silent support.

One night, after Hae-yi tries unsuccessfully to get Sun-jae to meet her at the playground, Seo-jin sees the message and calls Hae-yi to meet with her instead. Her claim that Sun-jae is doing fine and will continue to do so as long as no one rocks the boat doesn’t fly with Hae-yi. Sun-jae is very much not fine, Hae-yi says firmly, and she’ll do what she believes is right.

That night, Hae-yi goes missing. Her disappearance reunites Haeng-sun and Chi-yeol, who were back on uncertain terms after Haeng-sun caught Dong-hee deliberately throwing away food she made for Chi-yeol and the hagwon staff. (She’s now almost certain the boating “accident” wasn’t an accident; Chi-yeol still prefers to believe there must be a misunderstanding between them.) Now, Chi-yeol does his best to keep everyone relatively calm as they search for Hae-yi and report to the police, who can’t track her phone since it’s turned off.

So who was responsible for Hae-yi’s vanishing? Was it Seo-jin? Was it Su-ah, who’s falling apart at the seams and has already imagined pushing Hae-yi to her death at least twice? Nope, it was Dong-hee. (Of course it was.) Hae-yi caught him aiming his slingshot at Haeng-sun through the front gate, so he kidnapped her. Hae-yi managed to escape by using his fountain pen to break the tape around her wrists and ankles, and he chased her through the streets into the pathway of an oncoming car.

Hae-yi survives, thank goodness, but there’s no guarantee she’ll wake up from her coma. Dong-hee leaves a fake suicide note on her phone for the police to find, and since no one saw him chasing her, everyone assumes she jumped in front of the car on purpose — except Haeng-sun, who knows none of the details add up. The police won’t listen to her, though, going so far as to insinuate Haeng-sun being Hae-yi’s aunt rather than biological mother somehow makes her likely to have been abusive. The number of actually abusive (biological) mothers in this show doesn’t make the assumption any less infuriating.

Speaking of Hae-yi’s biological mother, she finally shows up, having been in Japan all this time. And of course she also blames Haeng-sun for Hae-yi’s condition.

Hae-yi’s friends are all devastated by the news, but none more than Sun-jae. After the midterm results are announced, he snaps and marches straight up to the roof, intending to throw himself off. Geon-hu stops him in the nick of time, and has to physically fight Sun-jae until they both run out of energy to keep him from trying again. Geon-hu doesn’t know what went down between Sun-jae and Hae-yi, but he points out that Hae-yi wouldn’t want to see Sun-jae like this, and that’s the final push Sun-jae needs to come clean.

Meanwhile, Chi-yeol and the detectives are working together to sort through clues. After catching Dong-hee in another lie, Chi-yeol finally realizes Dong-hee has been pulling strings to make Chi-yeol’s career turn out the way he (Dong-hee) thinks is best for Chi-yeol. When confronted, Dong-hee affirms that he preferred the Chi-yeol from before he met Haeng-sun — the one who devoted every second of his miserable life to his career and was totally dependent on Dong-hee to keep going.

It's possible that Hae-yi's mom is in town after having seen her on the internet broadcast. By reading about the "scandal" she probably already knows that Haeng-seon's "romance" is with a famous hagwon teacher.

I really hope Hae-yi wakes up to tell her mom off.

Also to tell the truth about Mr. ji. That will be important, too.

As far as Seon-jae's mother goes - she's pretty awful to her kids, but I really hope she gets it together. I hope she comes clean about what she did, accepts consequences, and becomes a better mom to both her kids. I hope her husband becomes her stable support.

I think that Su-ah's mom won't do anything until Su-ah reaches a crisis point and completely cracks up and burns something down.

Or maybe learning about Mr. Ji's backstory will be the wake-up call everyone needs. Stop pushing your kids too hard, they will commit suicide or murder you, then become a serial killer.

The return of Hae-yi's real mom has been irking me. Did the writer really need to bring her back? What's up with this subplot?!? Then I was watching early episodes again and started picking up on little details. Whenever Hae-yi calls Haeng-seon "aunt" or someone points out that she is not the real mom, you can see the hurt in Haeng-seon's face. In episode 4, Hae-yi tells Haeng-seon that she's motivated to be the top scorer in the country on the college entrance exams so she will be on the news hoping her real mom sees it. Then Haeng-seon starts to look like she wants to cry but holds it in.  If the return of the mom subplot is about what does it really mean to be a mom and Hae-yi chooses Haeng-seon, I will freaking cry my eyes out and will need a box of tissues next to me.

This is the biggest cop-out! Where is the justice for the victims? I really did not like the ending of this story arc.

Hae-yi's mom is probably the most self-centered, materialistic drama character ever! At least Hae-yi finally sees what the rest of her family knows about her mom. Absolutely shameless!

Really don't get the purpose of the show when it's called a romcom and it becomes what writers have done in last 3-4 episodes, show has been doing everything that's opposite of romcom. Don't recall ever seeing a drama with so many mixed genres.

Anyways, back to show it was an average episode. I always wanted ji's character arc to end fast and writers did it and did it in a bad way, it's like this show is just promoting suicides. Ji needed to be tried for his crimes.

Hae yi's mom was absolutely right when she says that he acts like a smart trillion won man and he didn't know his assistant was messed up, totally agree.

And as if that's not enough he adds salt to wound by acting further dumb, so when he has confirmed so much till last episode that ji is a culprit, why he doesn't inform police and plays a dumbarse detective and heads to his place to check it. Like what really angered me, this topclass tutor is so stupid that he knows his assistant is a possible killer and he lets him go out to do some job on his behalf when he knows he is very likely to attack the girl again, so you know a killer is out in open and you further let him walk around freely endangering his victims.

and writers had no chill, to further prove ccy an idiot they showed dong hui somehow entering the hospital room to kill her while actually being sent on an errand by ccy. On top of all he leaves his mobile in the car. Also does this dong hui guy know there are cctv cameras in hospital. Also more ironic now that nhs appears he still tries to kill them both. If you will kill them both you will still be exposed then why act so extreme to still attempt to kill. And then the genius teacher has the epiphany that the killer he allowed to walk free must be out there to target the victim and he lands straight in hae yi's room. And does this hospital have any security staff, a wholearse fighting is going on inside the room and noone knows. And when ccy arrives at hospital after talking to detectives why dectectives weren't there too.

And genius nhs who after being warned by ccy about dong hui leaves the girl to her mom.

It was very stupid of ccy to not immediately inform police officers when he discovers stuff on dong hui and to sit on the info like a duck. So much stupidity.

I really don't get what is writers' purpose of adding hae yi's mom and as a super angsty useless waste of time and stressful character. This whole episode was a waste with her mom given so much screetime doing typical kdrama tropes, asking for money and bla bla.

the brother and best friend's romance is not working.

Su a's mom's punishment didn't seem like a real punishment. She had done too much to her targets, here she rather came out as a victim of cheating.

What is up with jeon do yeon, when ccy calls her to warn about dong hui and stuff she responds in a girlish thin voice.

Ep 14 was best because it provided a lot of practical insight into pressures students are facing and how badly parents are treating them. Ep 15 gave an excuse that competition is causing parents to abuse children which isn't an excuse. The abuse these parents are doing is completely their fault because there is a limit to where it could be excused, these people are crossing all lines in their personal greed.

Also it was kind of disturbing to see hae yi studing even in hospital and ccy telling her I will help with math and everyone acting normal about her wish to catch up on missed classes sitting in hospital etc, because it looked that despite being in hospital, despite being so sick or while recovering, your studies are still the most improtant and above all.

There was no need for her mom to be thrown in. With ji gone this drama should have gone back to lighthearted stuff and ended that way instead of more crying and crying with hae yi now moving out.

Jeon Do Yeon And Jung Kyung Ho Say Goodbye + Thank Viewers Ahead Of “Crash Course In Romance” Finale

Mar 5, 2023
by E. Cha

“Crash Course in Romance” stars Jeon Do Yeon and Jung Kyung Ho have shared their thoughts ahead of tonight’s series finale!

“Crash Course in Romance” is a drama about the unlikely love story between Nam Haeng Sun (Jeon Do Yeon), a former national athlete who now runs her own side dish shop, and Choi Chi Yeol (Jung Kyung Ho), a star instructor in Korea’s elite private education sphere.

With just one episode left to go, the two leads took a nostalgic look back on their experience filming the drama and expressed their gratitude to the show’s many fans.

Jeon-Do-Yeon-Jung-Kyung-Ho-1.jpeg

Jeon Do Yeon remarked, “The beginning [of a new project] is always difficult and feels long, but now that we’re about to air the final episode, it feels like it was too short and went by in the blink of an eye, which leaves me with great sadness. Nam Haeng Sun in ‘Crash Course in Romance’ was a character that I really wanted to play, and it was also my first cheerful story in a long time, after much waiting. When I first received the script, I doubted whether I’d be able to pull this off, and I didn’t feel confident. But as we filmed, before I knew it, I had transformed into Nam Haeng Sun. Because of that, I honestly find myself wanting to linger and stay here longer, but we’re already facing the end.”

“There haven’t been that many productions that the whole family could gather and watch while laughing and crying together, but “Crash Course in Romance” was a drama that I, too, was able to watch together with my family members, so it’s very meaningful to me,” continued the actress. “Thank you so much for giving us so much love and interest.”

Jeon-Do-Yeon-1.jpeg

Meanwhile, Jung Kyung Ho fondly recalled, “Every moment that I spent as Chi Yeol was a happy one, and I was also happy to be able to work together with a director, writer, and [Jeon] Do Yeon, all of whom I really like. During Chi Yeol’s journey of growth after meeting Haeng Sun, I was able to grow together with him. There were also aspects [of Chi Yeol’s character] that somehow felt similar to my own personality, which I think made me feel even more affection for him.”

The actor went on, “The entire cast and crew, including the director and writer, all worked so hard, and I was happy and grateful to be working together with them. Although this is Chi Yeol’s final goodbye, I hope that when viewers remember Chi Yeol in the future, only happy emotions will remain for a long, long time. Thank you for having given so much love to ‘Crash Course in Romance,’ Chi Yeol, and the Yeol-Sun couple up until now.”

The final episode of “Crash Course in Romance” will air on March 5 at 9:10 p.m. KST.

My heart is so full!

I'm going to miss this show so much :'(

The coming weekends will feel empty without Chi Yeol sem, Haeng Seon, Hae e and the rest.

I wish we saw more positive portrayals. It's unfair to wrap it all up in one episode. I wish I saw Hui Jae on the trip with his mom, I wish I saw how Sua's mom overcame the scandal and found her true calling, I wish I saw how Sua dealt with her anxiety and her budding friendship with Geon hu, I wish more time was spent on these characters rather than the murder mystery. And I didn't like the trope of Hye e's birth mom coming back, I mean there was no dearth of drama in the show otherwise, this one could be avoided.

Nam Haeng Seon didn't act like a wilted flower and proposed to her man, claimed her right on him. Hye Won is doing a good job of replacing Ji Dong Hui as the assistant. I hope she'll keep sharing appropriate relationship advice for Choi Chi Yeol.

Wish Sun Jae & Hae e got more screentime rather than her selfish mom getting it. At least, in her letter, Haeng ja didn't act like an opportunist and told her sister that she's no less than the Trillion Won man.

Nam Haeng Seon can finally follow her dreams. How beautiful was the scene when Hae e runs towards her eomma, like old times, reminding us once again that this show is about a woman and her daughter. They are at the centre of it.

Loved everything about this episode except the parts featuring Nam Haeng Ja. We didn't need a foil character to show what a great mother Haeng Seon is. That was already established.

The best show of 2023, so far! It's already among the most watched shows on tvN. Glad it's getting the recognition it deserves.

Did hui jae join military? The resolution of side characters' was too rushed, su a's mental mom becoming a counsellor spells disaster. We weren't told what college and subject sunjae enrolled in.

Nhs removing her apron and running out of store like a hormonal teen was shown million times in entire show. Also su a magically turning into a decent human. I am not sure but how is sua's mom's violence against her husband is justified. Nam haeng seon's wardrobe kept getting more and more vintage in last episode, if she was 80s in early episodes, she was dressing 70s and 60s in last 2 episodes. Only when she starts studying her clothing style changed.

Liked 'joined The Fried academy', and dan ji's mom's, 'you are talented' comments.

Good they agreed to marry. Liked pianist better than nhs, even his new assistant had more chemistry with ccy than nhs.
