I have to agree with PD that I had my doubt regarding Bogummy. I mean his whole being screms Taek! lols. Even sometimes in Moonlight, I still see Taek. I think that character is just too deeply imprinted in my mind. However, like the PD, I am so glad that Bogummy came this far!! I am really happy with the casting of this drama. Thumbs up~~~

Just some thoughts after episode 14:

Being a Kim works for Yoon Sung's favor because he does not get questioned by guards.

The CP knows there are things that YS is hiding from him. YS is respecting RO's request not to let anyone know that she left the palace and why (well, not all her reasons)

YS is the ultimate spy, being always there at the right time.

in the flashback where Ra On was held at swordpoint, there were clearly 11 assassins - 7 on RO's right side and 4 on her left side, + the 2 guards at the gate that YS disposed of so easily = 13.

I screen-captured the house where the CP and RO met in the last scene and the house where the soldiers are advancing, they are the same, but could still be in different locations.

As for the evil queen giving birth 1 month ahead of scheduled delivery - could they have induced it? Since if they wait another month, if would be difficult to explain the baby's stage of growth as a 1 month old baby will be vastly different from a newborn. As a member of the royal family, they will not be able to turn down royal physician's coming to check on the baby regularly. PM Kim was not aware of the baby swap, right? He believed the fortune teller saying that the EQ will give birth to a male. But even if he gets wind of it, I think he'll go with it, knowing how he covets the throne.

Master Jung is a great help to the CP. Wish he has more people like him around to give him advice. However, if he gets to marry the princess, then he will not be able to serve the court like what happened in Moon Embracing the Sun.

HY character is too forward, isn't she. She's in-your-face (or in CP's face) all the time. She's eager-beaver to see the CP and talk about their impending wedding. She does not even think about what the CP is going through, what he's thinking or what he's feeling (never mind that she doesn't know he's missing Ra On-nah badly), since he's still recovering from the wounds sustained and trauma from the assassination attempt. All she can think of is the wedding. Sheesh. That's why she received the rude brush off. She was already being rude. She did not even consider that the CP was distant and cold but still very polite to her before. But then again, she's also like that to the Princess.

Actually, I find PBG very manly - his masculine hands that are juxtaposed with his delicate lush lips and beautiful eyes stand out! When he placed his hand over his eyes and cried in that scene in ep. 14, I was admiring the strength that was evident in that hand and arm! 

Our Bogummy has grown up to be a very handsome young man - this noona greatly approves.

I forgot to mention that reading how PBG had struggled that much acting out his character, i'm suddenly extra proud and happy with the overflowing praise that he has been receiving for almost every episodes (if not each and every single episode) for his performance. Before, although I was undoubtedly impressed with his ability to convey the character's emotion to perfection, i was also a bit annoyed that KYJ doesnt get as much praise. But now I just feel like those praises are due and he deserves them all if not more. Truly deserving.

I understand yo....CP was kindly rude to HY that moment....but you know like he said, before crown prince..he was a man and a person..sometime when we're in bad mood..we say rude things to other without even realizing it...And Our CP who was heart broken and don't know where to find his love . Even though he was Heart broken he can't cry open..still he had to deal with evil ministers..and control his emotions in front of them..so may be he want to be alone in that garden..and suddenly HY appear and talk about the marriage he never wants to....that's why he exploded to HY..I think..

PD-nim sounds so insecure about his abilities to bring best out of actors I mean that's what they supposed to do since he is the one who bend Crown Prince's characterization without considering actor's strengths. During press conference I didn't like his answer why YJ was cast too but didn't think too much of it. Sigh...I always felt that KYJ and PBG took such a risky path and this just confirmed it. Anyways I'm so glad and relieved it turned out good for everyone. 

On the other hand too much confidence also isn't any better so it's good that their  hard work paid off

as i was done posting earlier of pics from gurumi2016 i noticed posts on Jinyoung's hands by @JinyoungFox and @lovehbhjw2013 and i can't help but smile at how Jinyoung-obssessed we are  

on another note, feeling happy reading about @mellinadear's post on Bogummy's OST.  

okay on a serious note, i read a lot of posts critiquing Lee Young's attitude during that scene with Ha Yeon at the garden.  One thing to remember is that the Lee Young we know already had some changes in his personality/behaviour.  He is not the best-of-attitute-guy, we all saw that in many instances such as how the maids scamper at his sight, how he kicked Eunuch Sung (he deserve more than a kick, he just got it in advance), how he threw an arrow to the palace maids swooning over Kat Byun, how he would answer sarcastically to people when he needs to speak that way and so much more.  Even then I see this actions as a defense mechanism trying to show everyone that he is a no-goody person.  This is his own strategy so that the Kim clan would not be conscious of his abilities which we know he could be the most capable person. But back to his attitude, personally i do not find all of this as him being rude but just someone who can do whatever the heck he wants without minding others or its consequences. Why because he is a prince!  He can and can be what he wanted to.  It is not an excuse but aren't most royals have that same attitude.  He is more than that attitude, he is a multi-dimensional person.  Look at how he treated the child of the vegetable vendor.  How he sympatised with the poor.  He goes around the country not because he wanted to play but because it is his means to relate with his people.  I may be going way too off from the topic but be assured this is what i want to point out... Lee Young is a multi-faceted person, he can be whatever he is depending on the situation. When he was walking and did not see HY, she was offended.  I think we have to go back to the situation before that.  LY is clearly not in his best form yet given the situation.  Who had not been into that situation that you would just walk in a dazed because something is bothering you.  It is not unusual to happen and i don't think that HY had to stop him and confront him on that.  He is the prince after all.  I mean he is not immune to doing this things but by golly if he wants to he can!  The case is it is not that he intentionally passed by HY but he is in a difficult state emotionally.  I personally did not think she has the right to call him for that.  Next thing that happen was when she entered the garden and was rebuffed by LY. Again i personally think that the garden is a personal space for the prince much like the library.  A personal sanctum.  This is my impression from the very start.  Why would I presume that?  Ra On first introduced herself to LY as a girl in that place which could only mean that the place is where LY would be alone and with no maids or eunuch around. So when i saw HY there I was a bit taken aback.  Even then it is where LY returned her gift so that no one can see and that she would not be embarrassed. Seeing someone enter the place made LY imagine it to be RO.  I think he was saddened seeing HY instead of RO and that made him a bit angry thus his attitude towards her.  I do not really condone him for being that to HY but what I am trying to say is we need to understand Lee Young in this situation.  Saying to HY not to come to that place should not be taken as rudeness but it should be a clue to HY that she has intruded a private space.  She has to give space to LY because it was she who offered that in the first place, offering herself without emotional strings.  Mian for the long post and this is not intended to offend anyone.  IMO only.

After reading all the responses of everyone of the love for the 2 mutual lovebirds...and 2 forlorn lovebirds..and the controversial views,  I cannot help but say that the characters are depicted realistically for both BY and YS in their reactions to their respective love...and also the responses of RO and CP to them.  There is a lot of literature value in understanding YS and HY because they are the same, yet different.

What and why are they the same?

They are the same in background.  

Both are born with silver, some say, diamond spoon.  

Both are well-educated and intelligent people.  

Both are confident people who would express their thoughts

Both have high esteem to make choices when it comes to love 

Their attitude towards love is stoic, even knowing they are not the love interest of their love, they continue to be hopeful and engage.

They are both new to love, first love

They are both willing to make sacrifices for their love, albeit YS is more unconditional in his action but HY is not truly unconditional.

What and why are they different?

YS has travelled more widely than HY, he has seen more women than HY seen men, his mind is more open to variations.  HY lived in an enclosed and sheltered environment.

YS has to deal with more conflicts in his heart because his love is in love with his good friend, CP whereas HY does not know she is contending with, so her confidence is telling her that she can always try and follow her heart and ideals (also RO has advised her that her sincerity would help her)

YS is a friend with RO so on the pretext of being friends, he can also get close to RO but HY is not even a friend with CP so her anxiety to get through to him will be heighten and she faces more resistance than YS because friendship does not exist between her and CP.

YS can understand his rejection by RO is because he is late in knowing her and he already knew how deep their love was...so esteem-wise it is easier for him to swallow and accept his lateness.  HY cannot understand the rejection by CP because she has very little clue of when and how CP got to know his love and she also cannot imagine the depth of their love...so esteem-wise, she would be wondering...with who I am..I can impress him if given time?   One important factor that she is clueless about is CP's love is by his side daily.   If she knows this, she will know that is a tough factor to compete with.  In her mind, she is still idealistic...as long as no one is married yet, the chance remains open.....she does not know her probability of success whereas YS knows.

Their personality is also different because of their growing experiences.  YS is more street-wise...HY is idealistic.  YS has much higher EQ than HY.

YS has many opportunities to show that he can help and save RO.  HY has not much opportunities.  Her closest was using her Clan to support CP's political ambition and it was offered in the form of a marriage transaction....blatant compared to YS' saving damsel in distress examples.

For YS, because of the vast social background difference of RO and him and CP, in a way, I think YS is happy that such social background barrier is broken down by the gret love of CP.  It helps YS to endorse that his love is for RO is not wrong.    HY has nothing like this to mull over, she thinks she is just contending with another girl of her social status.

So in conclusion,  YS is confident and knows more information so his response seems more reasonable plus his personality of loyalty to friends help him.  HY is confident but quite clueness about everything...  she only has a target but insufficient information to help her understand how to move along.  In essence, the story is a good lesson for us to see how a person is moulded and shaped affects the attitude towards love.

Now to

Response of RO to YS

When a guy courts a girl, it seems the normal course of action during that era.  The girl only needs to respond.  So RO would not be overly surprised if she realises he is indeed serious.

Up to a long time, RO sees YS' behaviour as someone frivolous.   She never takes him seriously (even in the novel) 

She treats YS like a male buddy that she is comfortable with because she has been living like a boy for a long time..so she even teases him about gisaeng house visits.

Once she has given her heart to CP, all the more she can only see YS as a friend who is always like "a friend in need is a friend indeed" to her.

She does not dislike him, neither is she annoyed with him because he always knows to do the thing that she really wants... Like buying her a hanbok is what she wants though not wear it to please him.   He moves in nicely on her, never infringe on her discomfort zones or inner circle.

YS saves RO all the time.....so even without love, RO feels grateful to him.   YS knows how to make himself useful.

Lastly, RO is from a humble background, she will hesitate to link herself with any of these guys in her wildest imagination as during that period, matching in love is also matching in background.   So she would never think she can match to YS but CP really surprised her until she was swept off her feet.

Response of CP to HY

CP in the drama is already depicted a more personable person.  In the novel, CP has no eyes and memories for women at all.  RO was the only one he could see and remember. So not sure if HY is not aware that the CP has such a special trait.

CP has caught HY lying to fabricate destiny meet-ups...so I think that left a not-so-good impression of her.... In that era, girl chase boy is uncommon and boy usually likes to be the hunter.   RO also told small lies and we could tell CP was not impressed too but over time CP realised that coming from a different social background, that was her survival instinct otherwise she would have perished long ago in the tough environment.

CP has seen enough such learned girls living in the palace, so HY does not come across as outstanding....but street-wise RO does.

CP response, even if harsh, to HY is not unique, it would happen to any girl.

Being groomed into a King, feeling of territorial is natural.....so not wanting HY to go close to his areas of his territory is actually very normal.  She is not in his inner circle..so it is clear she should not trespass.   Even with the marriage proposal, it was only a business transaction.

In fact, I admire CP for being clear-minded..  he does not soften his attitude simply because HY is a girl and he has to be more galant.  For matters of the heart, sometimes it is better to be cruel to be kind.

Park Bo-gum initially grappled with prince role: PD

Actor Park Bo-gum grappled with the role of prince Lee Young in the early stages of filming “Moonlight Drawn by Clouds,” a producer of the KBS 2TV series said in an interview Wednesday.

“Park at first seemed to be in the middle of nowhere,” Kim Sung-yoon, a producer on the show, said.

“Park told me one day he had no idea about creating a voice tone of a royal family member. Moreover, he felt overwhelmed acting before veteran actor Cheon Ho-jin, playing Prime Minister Kim Heon,” Kim added.

Due to Park’s struggle, the duration of script-reading sessions doubled.

It took two months for Park to get “impeccably adjusted to the role,” which made the producer re-take scenes in the first two episodes.

“The Rio Olympics has allowed the staff to re-take some scenes in the first two episodes,” he said. “This enabled Park to act impeccably from the earliest episodes.”

The Web novel-based periodic TV series “Moonlight Drawn by Clouds” has topped the ratings among prime-time Monday-Tuesday series of network channels since Aug. 30.

The popularity is thanks partly to Park’s show of dignity as a prince and chemistry with Hong Ra-on, the female lead played by actress Kim Yoo-jung. The series has four episodes remaining.

so KYJ has a movie with cha tae hyun sunbaenim.. it kinda reside well that Cha is from KYJ's current agency last time and that PBG is currently under the agency co-owned by Cha. seems like cha could also be the connecting bridge bet KYJ and PBG to get closer quickly on set to display that kind of explosive chemistry

Very well said, such an unconditional love. That's such a beautiful statement right there and it conveys his feelings pretty well. PBG did an awesome job in showing that when he saw her at the end (and of course KYJ).
