After having seen the subbed episode on Viki I do have a better understanding for why JK left and why JE was so understanding of the whole separation. Seeing how JK missed her as much as she missed him and how he tried to be strong enough not to read her messages as this would kill his resolve to concentrate on getting better and completely switch it to be next to her, I think he was fully aware of how she worried about him right from the beginning. He was just afraid of giving into his greatest craving as in not being separated from her as she is his life-line but he used this craving as a booster of willing himself in healing faster than the recovery would normally take.

As for JE I think she did not get mad with JK as she knew all along what happened to him even with him being gone for a whole year. It is shown that she stayed in touch with JW and most likely JS as well and I think they did give her updates on his recovery as he will have kept his contact with them being worried about his "adoptive sons" living without their hyungnim. And from the fact that she knew right way that it was Min ringing at her apartment door for catching JK as he would have other obligations this night as well as the fact that she was able to convince/force him into participating the show and wearing a sparking jacket without him protesting to much I got the vibe of them having kept contact during JK absence as well.

As JE's voice-over during the last scene showed that she was grateful for JK having returned to her side earlier than she could have expected I think it was mostly Min feeding her with all the important medical updates (as in how complicated the recovery and rehab would be and how he was fighting through it). With Min's vast spy network reaching till the American side as well it would have been an easy task for him and he knows and respects how important JE is for JK health (mental, emotional as well as physical) so he would not do anything that would cut off this life-line. He even prevented the hospital staff from taking away JE plaster so JK could find it when finally leaving the room for the first time. I have the feeling that JE and Min found a common ground and got close to  each other in their worry about JK. She is able to twist Min around her little finger and to get her will with him as his involuntary performance at JK's birthday party showed.

Another detail that gave me the feeling of JE having information on JK recovery and not feeling left behind is the fact that all the month she used as marker for the passing year in episode 13 (February, May and August) where the same once that where shown as important milestones within JK's recovery process within today's episode.

I also liked the detail of JK knowing exactly what JE's schedule seemed to be on 24th of December 2015 although he just arrived in Seoul that day. He knew what time JE would likely pass around the corner on her way back to the office which is once again confirming Min's vast spy network and that Min also kept an protecting eye on JE for JK during his absence. For me Min is really the hidden Armor within this story. As soon as he realized JE's importance for JK he discreetly and secretly is doing anything needed to protect this bond even during the separation. He is indeed in control of everything and everyone around him but he's using his skills for the good cause. Well at least that's what I do want to believe.

I really think this week's episodes should be watched together to get what the writer was aiming for. And the fact that episode 14 with all it's heart-warming scenes softened the blow and impact of episode 13 did help as well (at least for me). Tonight's episode was just lovely. Especially the ending...

I've actually felt sorry for the stepmom.  At first I didn't know if she was pretending to be nice and humble, but it turned out that she's sincerely a good person and not greedy. She's a mother who wanted her son to be recognized by his father more than anything else.  I have to say that I am extremely disappointed in YH's grandmother. She's a mean, hateful woman who used her 'daughter in law'.

so well said. and it really is a lovely feast. There is no reason at all that we can't appreciate both of these fine men.

@Lady_Fay are you also a member of the Chief Min appreciation club? Your post was pretty appreciative of his efforts I thought. And I agree with everything you said. I think Min did something to help her out. Unlike others I liked the scene of her breaking down at work. It showed just how much pain she was in. Even with updates from Min or the lads she is having her heart ripped out from missing him and worrying about him.

I have now gotten back from my quick trip to the UK and I enjoyed the episode very much. I like how viki translate the lyrics. they really do add to the story even if I am not liking the music per se.

I didn't have a lot of thoughts that were not already said but here are a few very minor ones:

- why was he wearing a toque (the hat) and vest in the hospital? Even if he had a head injury and had it shaved it would not need covering by the time we see him sitting up and having knit that much. A hospital should be warm enough for patients not to need a vest.

- that dating book seems pretty odd. Why was it about separation and not about being together?

- The bandaid did strike me as unsanitary. But I do like how our uber-observant Min has even protected that. And I like how KYH answered my question from yesterday - yes Chief Min is indeed a mind reader

- I liked how his father said "of course I know, I'm your dad", and the look on KYH's face. the penny dropped there I think.

- I hope KYH goes and fixes the situation for step-mum and half brother.

Ep. 14 came out super early today and I enjoyed it for the most part -- a nice mix of sweet and cheesy moments.

A number of things did make more sense in light of Ep. 14 so I won't be a spoilsport and whine about what we didn't get. What we did get was largely good (particularly from SJS) and there was a very decent dose of skinship which came across as being a natural extension of their loving and missing each other.

I liked the fact that they took time with the rehab. In fact I will go so far as to say that it was necessary to show the rehab after that rather anti-climactic time jump from yesterday. If the writer wants to show separation, then we should all have to really feel it. Especially YH. He did put her through wringer by not allowing her to be part of his recovery so watching him suffer more than a little for it did placate this ajumma somewhat.

Admittedly this isn't the worse separation I've ever seen between an OTP. At least we can sigh of relief that it's not the tired amnesia cliche. It's too early to say what halmoni will try to do to keep the OTP apart. She might surprise us all and not interfere. 

I don't really know how I feel about step-mother and step-brother. They seem so underdeveloped that I'm not sure if I'll miss them if they disappear and never return. Dad doesn't even seem to be missing them but he did crack a rare smile when YH walked through the door in one piece.

Wonder what's up with SJ? It's not good when K drama characters self-medicate... it portends something unpleasant in the offing.

Chief Min gets top marks from me from his rather colourful rendition of My Way. LOL. I doubt that I'll ever hear that song in the same way again. Eat your heart out, Sinatra.

She's using everybody...stepmom to hold on to SIL...SIL to keep empire big...YH to keep empire in the family

I know it'll stay for him and is his as well...but it's not the only important thing in the world

I bet YH would prefer having dinner with JE's family around that small table but in that bright and close atmosphere

BTW...i'm looking fwd when YH will meet JE's mother...when MIL starts to yell at him and hits him...might be interesting for YH who is used to be treathed in gloves

Let's just say I'm totally able to see and appreciate his charms...

Another thing I just realized while rewatching the party scene was the fact that Chief Min can't even leave his position as master spy coordinator and organizer behind during a combined christmas/birthday party. Have you seen that he's been on the phone during JW violin session and that he first covered his ear to better hear the other side and later on even left the room while still being on the phone. I hope that's not foreboding next week's possible crises for our OTP (like him getting a call that grandma lost her consciousness during sleeping or any other bad news). Or it could be that JK used a quiet moment during the party to ask him for another favor to find his step-mom and try to get her contact details. As you said during the talk betwen JK and his father he may finally realized his father loved him all along but couldn't just show it proberly. So he may want to bring some happiness for his father as delayed christmas gift by bringing his wife back into his life after grandma forced her out.

As much as I would love to hang out here a bit longer it's already past midnight and time to get some sleep. Will catch up tomorrow though...

Unprofessional, yes. Human, definitely. I would write it differently, but I actually liked the scene for a few reasons. I could relate to it, as I'm sure majority of us could too. Being in the car alone. Hiding under one's desk. Sometimes the mundane four walls of an office confines us, suffocating our most inner feelings. When this happens, sometimes we breakdown sporadically. JE didn't have anyone to turn to at that moment. JE, like many strong independent women, have to put up a mask over her pain and to continue smiling. It's reflective of a women's world. We're always being asked to be superhuman. If there were more scenes of post-JE father's death, the injustice she witnessed from corporate evil making her decide to go to law school, and actually showing the struggles of being the oldest child breadwinner (like Oh My Ghostess does so well), it would've made for a more compelling backstory. I would've went that route instead of the horrific CF Queen. 

 

Totally ... esp on the CF Queen.

And it's getting more underhand how that girl has insinuated her way into the poor dude's life, by the mom approach. Why are we having to waste time on her antics?

While I get it was "human" and reflective on the immense pressure JE was under for the year .. yes it would have been way palatable written in with a diff approach.

YH will get another kid on his lap...at his home it was JE's friend son...at her home will be her brother's kid

Enjoyed your insights. Though why her text msgs would weaken his resolve (he did what he had to go - get rehab physio in US) - in many ways, just recalling her tearful words motivated and spurred him on to be whole and healthy for her (vice versa for JE); including those unsanitary band-aids that are so motivationally communicative between them!

I went by raws only for ep 14 - but yes agree she was somewhat NOT totally unaware of his progress/non progress. The two puppies aka 'sons' visited and no way they would have kept mum about YH, or their absence away in US. And we saw that JE had updated coach with videos/texts of her exercise routine, which always so makes the smitten YH smile whatever his condition (going as far back as his first stay in Daegu hospital to suss out his cancer prognosis; when in the name of monitering her exercise as excuse, he was so dying just to see her on screen!). They were utmost in each other's minds and hearts (whether real or imaginary - he started having visions of her too, like JE always had of him, rt to the moment she bumped into him literally ... cue moment we all *sighed with relief an swooned* in unison too! )

But, the entire stress and anxiety of not seeing the actual dude was evident by the almost paranoid  way she needed to have him by her physically once she saw him, loathe to let him out of sight - it's revealing of her building anxiety, stress and mounting insecurity of the past yr.

And how in her imaginary conjuring of his presence ... when she walked right into him, the real deal this time and touched him to convince herself - it's testimony to him as how much she has been obsessed and focused on him over the past yr, and what hell JE went through.

I am thankful for Ep 14 too. It had a more poignant tone even in its happy moments ... except towards the ending cute teasing and flirting bed scene which had more of the former mood shared between these two. That growing smile and smirk in him she always managed to invoke!

At least Ep 14 provided some more context to Ep 13, though I still don't see how inserting this accident helps him heal as a whole (ie his psychological->physiological reaction to emotional trauma).
