The upcoming movie Concrete Utopia, featuring renowned stars Lee Byung Hun, Park Seo Joon, and Park Bo Young, heightened expectations with captivating posters and a teaser.

Concrete Utopia unfolds a post-apocalyptic drama in Seoul, where survivors gather in the city’s last standing apartment after a devastating earthquake.

The released character posters, set against the backdrop of Hwanggung Apartment, radiate an intense aura with their unique visuals.

Lee Byung Hun’s poster features his character, Young Tak, the representative of the Hwanggung apartment residents, whose commanding presence alone steals the scene. The accompanying copy, “I believe this apartment was chosen,” piques interest in this intriguing premise.

The posters for Park Seo Joon’s character Min Sung, who’s desperately trying to protect his family, and Park Bo Young’s character Myung Hwa, who’s striving not to lose her faith, increase anticipation for survival post-disaster. Min Sung’s line, “We’re over they manage to drive us out of here,” and Myung Hwa’s, “Shouldn’t we prioritize to find a way to live together?” adds depth to the survivors’ struggle.

11 Awesome K-Dramas Based On Webtoons

20230702085339_A-business-proposal-whats

Books, comics, and webtoons have always been a source of inspiration when it comes to shows. The ever-growing popularity of webtoons in South Korea saw may of them being given a K-drama make over. Here are 11 such awesome K-dramas which are based on webtoons and might star some of your favorite actors.

“Itaewon Class”

Itaewon-class.jpg

“There are times when you’re faced with things that you just can’t tolerate. You don’t need to be on anyone’s side but your own.” These empowering words by Park Sae Roy (Park Seo Joon) give an insight into the strength of his character.

His life has gone horribly wrong, from his father’s tragic death to being wrongly expelled from school and even serving a jail term. The ones who have perpetrated these atrocities against him are the richest family in Seoul, who own the biggest chain of restaurants. With his future in shambles, Sae Roy is an underdog who dares to dream and never gives up on himself. Once out from prison, he opens his own restaurant called “Dan Bam,” a small endeavor that only gets bigger in time and becomes a force to be reckoned with. Sae Roy also takes people along with him, empowering them and instilling confidence in those who work with him. And Jo Yi Seo (Kim Da Mi), a feisty and spunky social media influencer and whiz, plays a large part in his success. Infatuated with him, she becomes an integral part of his world.

“Itaewon Class” is outstanding. The show addresses many issues from the rampant corruption in capitalist societies to the class divides and LGBTQIA+ issues as well as racism. The drama is all about second chances in life and how everyone has the right to start over. Stellar performances by Park Seo Joon, Kim Da Mi, and Ahn Bo Hyun make this one an unmissable watch. Gaho’s chart-topper track “Start Over” also became an anthem of sorts and a motivation to never give up against all odds.

What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim

whats-wrong-with-secretary-kim.jpeg

Who would have thought that the office would be a dream setting to meet the love of your life? Lee Young Joon (Park Seo Joon), the handsome and a self-confessed narcissist, is the heir to a fortune. He has forever been dependent on his super efficient secretary Kim Mi So (Park Min Young). So when Mi So decides to call it a day and resign, it leaves Young Joon in a dilemma. Though in his characteristic way he acts as if it would not make a difference, he soon realizes the importance of Mi So and cajoles her to stay. It is only a matter of time before Young Joon finds himself attracted toward her and completely falls in love with Mi So. The favorite K-drama trope of childhood connections also makes its way into the narrative as it shows a passionate office romance unfold between the boss and his secretary.

“What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim” is a winner all the way. Funny, cheesy, and of course with steamy chemistry between Park Seo Joon and Park Min Young, all these things make this drama worth your while.

‘Concrete Utopia’ sets itself apart with grand-scale, realistic set designs

The interiors of the apartment units were custom-designed to show the characteristics and jobs of each character that Lee Byung-hun, Park Seo-joon and Park Bo-young play. They star as a group of residents in the Hwang Gung Apartments. Lee plays Young-tak, a leader among the residents, Park Seo-joon stars as Min-seong, who supports Young-tak, and Park Bo-young plays Min-seong’s wife.

Sophisticated computer graphics were also used to show the contrast between Seoul before and after the devastating earthquake.

Production company Climax Studio, which produced hit Netflix originals “Hellbound” and “D.P.,” participated in the film.

Realistic, detailed set design was pivotal for the film as it is not just about the aftermath of a disaster but shows different sides of human instincts when put in an extreme situation, according to director Um.

“It was important for me to add reality to the film sets. It took two years for the computer graphics team to study the geography of Seoul and apply it to the computer graphics work,” said Um during a press conference held on June 21.

To get the most out of the film’s overwhelming visual effects and sound, he encouraged people to watch “Concrete Utopia” in a cinema.

“Concrete Utopia” hits local theaters on Aug. 9.

The movie has also been presold in 152 countries, according to distributor Lotte Entertainment.

Concrete Utopia, the highly anticipated film of the summer, brings together a remarkable ensemble of talent, including Lee Byung Hun, Park Seo Joon, and Park Bo Young in leading roles. Moreover, Park Seo Joon‘s captivating portrayal of a vibrant young man is generating significant buzz.

Concrete Utopia paints the dramatic narrative of survivors huddling in the Hwanggung Apartment, the only remaining structure in Seoul devastated by a major earthquake.

Park Seo Joon, in his role as Min Sung, provides an exceptional portrayal of a character struggling to keep his family safe in extreme circumstances, dealing with conflict, and undergoing gradual change. His unique talent for nuanced acting and character immersion comes to the fore in this performance.

*** With the first teaser for his solo debut MV, BTS Jungkook is already breaking records and surpassing expectations. In particular, the 30-second clip for “Seven”, featuring Han So Hee and Jungkook arguing, exceeded 1 million views on YouTube within just 10 minutes. Wahhh........................  I believe that the reason why she's in the music video of Jungkook is because of Park Seo Joon. If not, I couldn’t help but wonder about the connection between Han So Hee and Jungkook. How did the two get to know each other? Why got a partner who's an actress and not from any girl group? Their connection may have begun at the premiere for the movie “Dream”. In particular, Park Seo Joon is a close friend of BTS V, and is likely to be close with Jungkook, and he also attended the VIP premiere with V.  Meanwhile, Park Seo Joon and Han So Hee collaborated in the series “Gyeongseong Creature”, and have maintained a good relationship. Both Jungkook and Han So Hee appeared at the premiere to show their support. Afterwards, they stayed behind and hung out together after the event, alongside “Wooga squad” members. In the past, Han Soo Hee appeared in many MVs for popular singers.   :yaaa:

Top film distributors compete with summer blockbusters

NEW, Showbox, CJENM, Lotte Entertainment gear up for releases but there are risks to their success

Four new blockbusters are set to hit local cinemas this summer, complete with large production budgets and star-studded lineups. Film distributors hope to attract large audiences in the aftermath of the pandemic, but moviegoers' expectations remain low.

With the abundance of high quality content available on streaming platforms and soaring ticket prices, Korean audiences have shown a growing trend of consuming content at home, only venturing to cinemas if the ticket is truly worth the price.

It remains to be seen whether struggling film distributors will find success with their upcoming summer releases.

Last on the list is “Concrete Utopia.” Based on the second part of the hit webtoon series “Pleasant Neighbor,” the film tells the story of apartment residents whose lives are in danger in the aftermath of an earthquake. The film had a production budget of 20 billion won.

Director Um Tae-hwa portrays Lee Byung-hun, Park Seo-joon and Park Bo-young as desperate residents fighting to survive in their partially collapsed apartment. Although the plot line may be relatable to our everyday lives, as many Koreans spend a lot of time in their apartments, not many webtoon-inspired films have had much success here. There is also the risk that this kind of disaster flick often concludes with a predictable, melodramatic ending. The film, which is distributed by Lotte Entertainment, hits cinemas on Aug. 9.
