Moon Geun Young Experiences a Payment Delay for Her Role in “Goddess of Fire, Jung-Yi”

The cast members of MBC’s drama, “Goddess of Fire, Jung-Yi” are experiencing a delay in their payment. Representative of Moon Geun Young’s agency revealed the parties involved are discussing the issue.

“Goddess of Fire, Jung-Yi” ended in October with a total of 32 episodes. However, the drama’s production company, KPOX, has not made any payments to the cast as well as some staff members.

A representative of Moon Geun Young’s agency, Namoo Actors, stated, “We are in the process of working out the issue involving the payment. The payment has been delayed, and it doesn’t seem likely for the issue to drag out longer than necessary.”

“Goddess of Fire – Jung-Yi,” which aired from July to October starring Moon Geun Young, Kim Bum, and Lee Sang Yoon, is a historical drama portraying the story of the first woman to make ceramics during the period of the Joseon Dynasty.

Cast and staff of MBC TV drama ‘Jung Yi: Goddess of Fire’ have not received their full salaries yet?

It has been reported today that the cast and staff of MBC TV drama ‘Jung Yi: Goddess of Fire’, have yet to be paid their full salaries by the production company, KPAX. The drama had already finished its run on October 22nd after three months of airing.
With regards to the unpaid salaries, KPAX issued an official statement where it said, “We have already paid out salaries to the staff and supporting cast members. We have however delayed the payment of salaries only to the main cast members.”

The company continued, “The main cast members had agreed that salaries can be first paid out to the staff and supporting cast members, and understood the situation. So we went ahead to pay salaries to everyone first except for the main cast members. The money for overseas television rights are coming in later than we have forecasted, so we had to delay the payment of salaries to the main cast members. We as a company are doing our utmost best to solve this problem, and we will immediately pay out the salaries once we receive money for the overseas television rights. There were some contractual issues with the sales of overseas television rights, so we had to delay salary payment. We are delaying payment, but not withholding payment.”

It had been reported in the media that Moon Geun Young, Kim Bum, and other main cast members of ‘Jung Yi’ had been owned salaries of up to billions of Korean won. Moon Geun Young and Kim Bum’s agencies have stated, “They are just delaying the payment, not defaulting on it."

MBC drama not paying cast, crew

The MBC drama "Goddess Of Fire Jeongi" ended its run in October, but many of the actors and crew who worked on the popular series, including actress Moon Geun-yeong, have reportedly not been paid.

According to local media reports, the production company behind the series, KPax, has been late with many payments.

As Moon was the top star of the series, her late payments reportedly total more than 100 million won ($95,100), although Moon's agency, Namoo Actor, is saying they think the delay is just temporary and expect KPax to pay up eventually.

Because "Goddess Of Fire Jeongi" was an unusually long series - 32 episodes instead of the usual 16 or 20 - Moon's salary was even higher than usual.

Other actors from the drama, including Lee Sang-yoon and Kim Beom, are also said to be talking with the production company about receiving their late salaries.

KPax is reportedly in a dispute with MBC over who has the lucrative overseas licensing rights to the series and plans on using the money it earns from international sales to fulfill its late payments to the cast.

KPax has also said fixing the crew's late payments is a top priority.
