The film has it's flaws but definitely not as bad as SK critics say it is.  True, the plot is too convoluted, the editing too messy, the final product too unconventionally appealing, but nevertheless a brave attempt at bringing something new to Korean cinema.  The worst mistake the production made was market it as an action thriller and thus, sets up different expectations.  The crime/gangster/casino theme is just the setting of the movie, the real theme is given away in the opening sequence with the quote "What a man can be, he must be", which is the basis of the entire movie.

You probably know KSH plays two roles in this and one imitates the other.  Real is a movie about the imitator's desire/obsession to become what is he potentially, which he believes is the real Jang Tae Young.

Ha!  If one failed project can end an actor's career then 99% of actors out there wouldn't be acting anymore.  

 

If anything, Real is an eye opener to any director who may have doubted his skills before (mainly because of his relatively young age).

 Real is actually not a failed project but somewhat cater to different group of people who appreciates.

I marveled  at KSH for being brave enough to make this step which many dare not. When he had 5 successes, there were all praises to it. But when he does one that is not to viewer’s appetite, he was ridiculed. KSH is a person who is on solid foundation regarding his acting skills. For example Dream High, TMETS, MLFTS and Producers. Producers although was not as popular as TMETS and MLFTS  but to my opinion it’s KSH  character that stands out. All his dramas does not have repetition on characters. It’s hard to find people who is willing to take on challenge. No challenge means market will be very stagnant with no new ideas.

I agree with you. The critics in SK exaggerated their opinions mainly bc KSH is guaranteed headline material.

Compared to all the other popular hallyu actors, he does have a good range of personalities he played. It's really refreshing watching each of his projects.

It's photoshopped because Soo Hyun has a taller forehead with a slight widow's peak.  They did a pretty good job since it does look real.  It would also be too cruel to make him shave his head just for one picture
