*** Disney + is gearing up to release the highly-anticipated Korean series "Moving."  Jo In Sung highlighted the uniqueness of the main characters, saying, “Even though these characters have these supernatural powers, their lives are actually pretty ordinary. And that’s what got me so fascinated with the show. The story is just so relatable.”

"Moving"  will release 7 episodes worldwide on Disney + on August 9th and will subsequently release two episodes every week.   :coolshades:

Disney+ unveils new shows starring BTS, Ji Chang-wook and more

Promotional stills from (clockwise from top left) “Moving”, “BTS Monuments: Beyond the Star,” “The Worst of Evil”,  “Dragons of Wonderhatch," “Tokyo Revengers: Tenjiku Arc” and “Soundtrack #2” (Disney+)

Disney+ has revealed its new lineup of Asia Pacific (APAC) content with original titles since The Walt Disney Company Asia Pacific’s 2022 Content Showcase.

It said the consumer response to Disney’s APAC originals in the first half of the year has been positive.

“With the success of our initial wave of APAC originals, we will continue to build on this momentum by delivering exceptional storytelling through the second half of 2023 and beyond,” said Carol Choi, executive vice president of Original Content Strategy, The Walt Disney Company APAC.

“Thrillers, crime-action and fantasy, centered on strong storylines from Korea and Japan, are resonating with audiences and we look forward to continued collaboration with leading content creators and storytellers from this region,” added Choi.

In the second half of 2023 through 2024, Disney will release some of its most anticipated local APAC originals and stories. These include:

From Korea:

Moving – Adapted from the webtoon of the same name by famed Korean author Kangfull, “Moving” stars Ryu Seungryong, Han Hyojoo and Zo Insung in a captivating story about a group of superpowered individuals on the run from government forces and a mysterious assassin who has been dispatched to take them all out. Moving is slated to debut exclusively on Disney+ on Aug. 9.

The Worst of Evil – In 1990s Seoul, a former DJ seizes control of a gang and begins pushing a potent new drug (nicknamed “Gangnam Crystal”) in the city’s nightclubs. With little known about the source of this drug, rural police officer Park Joonmo is recruited to bring down the trafficking triangle from the inside. Slated to debut later this year exclusively on Disney+, this new series stars Ji Changwook; “Squid Game” actor Wi Hajoon, and Lim Semi.

Vigilante- A star student at the police academy, Jiyong is a burgeoning martial arts master and a bookish academic who has spent over a decade haunted by the image of his mother being murdered in front of him by a stranger. Exacting his revenge on the non-repentant offender, Jiyong is set along a path that will see him target other offenders, using the knowledge gained at the police academy to avoid being caught in “Vigilante.”

Soundtrack #2 – In 2022, “Soundtrack #1” captured audiences with its touching story of unrequited love and emotionally poignant score. With “Soundtrack #2,” the fan-favorite series returns late 2023 with a new storyline of two young sweethearts who break up after six years together, only to be reconnected again. Starring Keum Saerok and Steve Sanghyun Noh, “Soundtrack #2” will also see the return of Kim Heewon, the director behind the show’s hit first series.

BTS Monuments: Beyond The Star - An exclusive Disney+ original and part of Disney’s collaboration with HYBE, this music docu-series will chart the incredible journey of 21st century pop icons BTS. With unprecedented access to a vast library of music and footage over the past nine years, the series will feature the daily lives, thoughts and plans of BTS members, as they prepare for their second chapter.

Han River Police- Starring Kwon Sang-woo and Kim Heewon, this upcoming Korean fictional comedy action series follows the crazy antics of Seoul’s Han River Police Force as they patrol the waterways and respond to emergency situations including terrorist incidents, accidents and more.

@syntyche  thanks for sharing this. The newly released poster captures the 3 of them standing against the backdrop of the National Intelligence Service building with a caption that reads - "“We were called monsters.”  I guess because of their special abilities in the drama. I'm curious of the mystery so, can't wait for the premiere of “Moving”  on August 9, after which two new episodes will be released each week for a total of 20 episodes.   :ohboy2:

Top film distributors compete with summer blockbusters

NEW, Showbox, CJENM, Lotte Entertainment gear up for releases but there are risks to their success

Four new blockbusters are set to hit local cinemas this summer, complete with large production budgets and star-studded lineups. Film distributors hope to attract large audiences in the aftermath of the pandemic, but moviegoers' expectations remain low.

With the abundance of high quality content available on streaming platforms and soaring ticket prices, Korean audiences have shown a growing trend of consuming content at home, only venturing to cinemas if the ticket is truly worth the price.

It remains to be seen whether struggling film distributors will find success with their upcoming summer releases.

First on the list of new films this summer is director Ryoo Seung-wan’s crime action flick “Smugglers,” distributed by NEW. With a production budget of around 20 billion won ($15.8 million), the film tells the story of the residents of a peaceful seaside town, many of whom are involved in smuggling. Director Ryoo’s flagship sense of humor and the film's star-studded lineup -- Kim Hye-soo, Yum Jung-ah, Zo In-sung, Park Jung-min, Go Min-si -- are expected to attract moviegoers. However, some speculate that the film will be yet another cliche crime flick, mimicking “The Thieves” (2012), only this time with a female-led cast. The film opens in cinemas on July 26.

'Moving' Jo In-sung, a flying psychic.. Director "I wanted it to be really cool"

Jo In-sung's stills from 'Moving' were released for the first time.

The Disney+ original series 'Moving' tells the story of children who live in the present while hiding their superpowers and parents who have lived in the past while hiding painful secrets.

Jo In-sung plays a psychic with the ability to fly freely in the sky. His role as 'Kim Doo-sik' is a person called a legend among black agents, as he has all of the speed that cannot be followed by the eye, the ability to fly freely in the sky, and shooting skills that boast 100 shots while flying.

The appearance of performing various missions as the most elite agent in the released still stimulates curiosity about the character 'Kim Doo-shik'. While 'Kim Doo-sik's nimble action, which coolly carries out his duties under any circumstances, raises expectations, the sight of him confronting someone while maintaining an expressionless expression on his face raises curiosity about what happened to him.

Jo In-sung, who said, "Some days I have never acted on the floor," said that he made constant efforts, such as studying his posture, to express the flying 'Kim Doo-sik' naturally and as if he were a real person. Martial arts director Ryu Seong-cheol praised him, saying, “It is actually really difficult to move and use the body freely while floating in the air with wires on, but Jo In-sung gave me nine more when I asked for one.”

Also, “‘Doo-sik’ is 99% perfect, but he is a person who shows a weak 1% in front of the person he loves. As director Park In-je said, “I talked a lot with Jo In-sung to express this,” Jo In-sung completely immersed himself in the character himself and completed his own ‘Kim Doo-shik’.

"Moving" will be released on Disney+ on August 9th at the same time around the world, followed by two episodes every week.
