.... well i didn't want something as graphic... Usually I associate nudity with porn.

I gotta defend this series.

So bunch of R-rated movies out these days seem like porn to you?

From what I hear the book itself was pretty graphic with the sex scenes (correct me if I'm wrong) and nothing about the sex scenes in the series seem cheap and trashy as common porn. The graphic nature of these scenes help to reveal the lustful relationships between some and compares those to more emotionally-bound relationships like Sookie and Bill.

There's a reason for this show being aired on HBO, and not on The CW or some other network.

I have to agree with keirasketch.

Yes, the sex scenes are hard to digest at first, but aren't vampires known for their lust? Vampires can lure whoever they want whenever, because of their sexual appetite. Vampires and sex goes hand in hand. Vampires are supposed to have that special charm that humans don't have. So with the sex scenes and nudity... I think it's just apart of a vampires life. They are exposed to it and savor it with pride.

What about those who just prefer things to be more subtle? I don't think we need to be hit with a hammer over the head to get that Sookie's brother is a manwhore.

I don't have a problem with the sex scenes if they're here and there through the season (sex is a normal everyday thing, albeit covered up in society) but then if they occur that frequently, I think that goes beyond just showing us the contrast between lustful and emotional relationships.

Having said that though, I don't know if the sex scenes are that frequent since I've only had the time to watch the first episode. Are there more sex scenes in the later eps?

edit. Most soompi users are pretty young kids as well. Lol and maybe some True Blood viewers ran over from the Twilight craze (vampiresomgwhere?Edwardisthatyou?!?!?!).

^ I hope they last because they make such a cute couple!

omgawd can't wait for the next episode to come out lol I'll prolly end up watching it like on Monday or Tuesday since I don't have HBO :[

Same here! :( I finished Dead Until Dark in like 1 day, lol. I wonder how closely the show's following Book 1's plot.

The American standard for sex and violence lame. It's like, they have to hold your hand through every single "offensive" bit and cover up as much as possible. People are moaning off screen, it sounds like they're having sex! Close your ears!

Then again they hold swearing more volatile than full out sex scenes.

I gotta defend this series.

I agree on both parts

yes there is alot of sex on the show but it's about VAMPIRES for crying outloud.

Like Keirsketch said there is a reason it's on cable and not on CW and ish

and doesnt it say before the show starts that there it's rated TVMA??

I don't agree on dumbing down the show by removing the sex, having scenes after sex or turning it into some saturday night softcore garbage. It makes the rest of the viewers feel like they're being treated as morons.

I'm a little too lazy in writing more but without the sex scenes it takes away from the character development.

totally agreed.

It's rated what it's rated lol for a REASON.

The audience that this series was made for is obviously thoroughly enjoying it, including the sex scenes.

Why should they take away from the show to make it easier and more comfortable to watch for those who it wasn't made for?

This makes no sense at all.

and for those puberty-stricken Edward Lovers, the first few episodes should act as an warning and they should make the decision to either stop watching or just stop being a vagisil, but I strongly recommend and hope they choose the first route.

I john teshing love this show hahahahahaha

I actually thought it was really great! You get a lot more insight into Sookie's character. To me, she seems a lot more insightful in the book versus on the show. Jason was a lot more likeable in the book too. You should pick it up. The paperback version is only like...$7.99 I think : )

lol I said that because I had no idea it was R rated or what being on HBO implied. I noticed critics tend to love shows featured on HBO (The Sopranos, Six Feet Under) so I wanted to check this out....

And no, I'm not a "Edward" loving teenager... but I'll heed to your advice anyhow.

I have yet to see this series (really want to though!), but in my opinion, the sex scenes in a vampire series shouldn't be shocking. Vampires are sexually alluring creatures. It's expected. And like many said before, why are young'ns watching if they can't handle it?

Nothing is wrong with sex =___= lol, it's how we're all born and sex can be beautiful when shared between loved ones. It's an intimate bond emotionally, not just physically.

I've seen two episodes of this show, the sex scenes were explicit but totally not as graphic as in what they show in movies. And yes this series is geared towards adults not young people so no one should be so shocked at the sexual content especially since this is an HBO series. And I did not know that this was based on a book, I gotta read it cause I think the storyline is so very good.

These shows aren't handicapped when it comes down to showing what they want on screen, you have more freedom and not worry about the censors coming after you. Not that there is a right way or wrong way of portraying sex and violence, but such things on HBO don't turn into a gimmick (see: Hostel, Saw, Eli Roth garbage, etc).
