  1. @Lyna A special shout out to you and high-five. We are soooo on the same page about YeHua's devotion to Bai Qian (well, and the rest of the people on the forum)

@Purestupidity - OH MY GOODNESS!! My heart just shattered into a million pieces with the below sentence from YeHua :heartbreak: . I'm getting teary again, give me another tissue please (actually make that two boxes)

Thank you for taking the time out on your special day to summarised this touching but sad scene. :heart::heart: A very special thank you!!

  2. @chocolatefruitnut Welcome! LOL it's never too late!! Ohh I'm not a chocolate person but I do love fruits and nuts in my chocolate :grin:

I love your take on YeHua, there were some gems in it so I had to respond to the below comments. :heart:

SuSu did indeed win YeHua's love through her kindness and warmth. He already had a good impression of her during his lotus days but it wasn't until he got to know her that he experienced first-hand her kindness. She collects stray and injured animals which is pretty lovely in itself. She loves him for who he is and not his status. You can tell the ladies who did like him perhaps they truly did but more on a superficial level. On a more personal note, I have too much self-respect for myself to like a recently affianced man let alone a man who has no eyes for anyone else except for his fiancee/ wife.

    Shameless hussies!! <_<

    1 hour ago, chocolatefruitnut said:

It probably opened his eyes to their version of 'love' thats why when Susu came along, he was so desperate to preserve their love and couldnt forget about her. I think her love gave him the 'warmth' he couldnt get in heaven...

Oh the scene below made me tear up, you can tell Mark was affected by it as well. YangMi really gave it all here! I love this couple!! Their friendship behind the scene is wonderful to watch and you can see it's translated into the drama. Kisses all around for our amazing couple :heart::heart:

YangMi and Mark was amazing in that death scene...if you watched the BTS, Mark had to stop cos he had to control his emotions and if you can make the director cry while filming...I guess that's means they really delivered the emotions.

  3. @meifang89 that's all right! No problem at all. Thanks for responding

@whitesky20 Thank you!!! :heart::heart: I'm going to watch it live and then re-watch on YouTube and then with English subtitles. Hahaha Life's good!

@VietGirl2 Oh I know exactly what you mean. I feel so sorry for YeHua during his childhood. He looked so forlorn and lonely. It's no wonder when he fell it was hard. SuSu must have been such a breath of fresh air to his stale study room. I feel that his heavenly grandfather was way too harsh to such a small child and he had such high expectations too (unrealistic ones as well). YeHua being such a good kid meets every one of them! I think his grandfather was so cruel because he was afraid YeHua would give up his status and kingdom for SuSu (that was the plan!) So he was unnecessarily hard with YeHua and openly mean to SuSu. YeHua knew this and wanted to protect her, alas, we all know what happened. In a way, and as annoying as SuJin was, she too was a pawn (although of her own making) to the grandfather. But then he also approved of her viciousness which I despise!  Yes, I totally agree they are hypocrites. They rather save 'face' then the person and they were willing to sacrifice those they love for their own political machination and advancement. Although, you can tell heavenly grandfather did actually love and care about YeHua (as deeply as one hypocrite can) so in a way it was poetic justice that YeHua sacrificed himself for Bai Qian. In your face your lordship (control freak!)

No offence taken, I just like your passionate and straight-forward response :grin:

You know my favourite part, is when YeHua wakes up, the first thing he does is totally disregards everyone and heads straight to Qing Qui looking and waiting for his woman, Bai Qian!! What a man!! :heart::heart:

I love this moment because anyone can say what they want, YeHua simply does what HE wants!! Ohh I adore his acting and I'm gushing at Mark...again!! LOL

  4. @VietGirl2 I love reading your comments about YeHua's family. I love how passionate you are about the situation  Funnily enough being in a Celestial Clan is in my opinion quite dysfunctional. Only YeHua/ Mo Yuan and 3rd Uncle appears to be the 'normal' ones. The rest have been in the heavenly realm far too long, losing complete touch with reality. You can't control people lives like this as they are typically tragic consequences that follows.

@Lyna I absolutely agree with your take on YeHua's mum. Whatever she did, whether it was with good or bad intention, she did it out of love for YeHua. I personally wouldn't behave that way but then again I've never experienced a situation where my son/ daughter has fallen in love with someone whom I disapprove of. Hypothetically, I hope they never do. Personally, I don't want to be too harsh. Don't get me wrong, I don't agree with her actions and I definitely don't condone it but I understand it from someone who means well but when it goes terribly wrong they are besides themselves with guilt. So rather than accept the situation, it's easier to blame Bai Qian. She's grieving and I know many people who say and do terrible things when they are in a such state.

@Purestupidity again and as always thank you for the summary. I'm still watching the drama but with subtitles. I'm thoroughly enjoying the drama but in a way sad that it ends tomorrow.

Have a great time on your special day

BTS Ep 56- just warn you all, you will cry, I did. Both Yang Mi and Mark Chao poured their hearts out for this scene and also they had to film a few times as they needed different angles.

@Purestupidity I absolutely love this scene :heart::heart: I got teary watching the BTS and I haven't even started on Episodes 55-56 and already my heart is breaking. This is so sad. When I was reading the translated novel I was rather emotional but the drama has taken it to the next level. Honestly, YangMi is excellent here. I could really see her heart breaking. Well, everyone knows how I feel about Mark so I won't say too much except that he's definitely hasn't fail me yet again!! Just exceptional and sublime for both party.

Sometimes, we forget that actors are human after all and even with the director look at how affected they are. It would have been emotionally taxing for everyone involved. I found this scene particularly touching. Gosh, I need another box of tissue later this evening :bawling:

I have emotion-wise invested heavily in this drama and it has been worth every minute and moment!

Coincidentally, a webdrama caught my eye with its catching title (sorry if it's a little off topic)

I Love My President Though He Is A Psycho

Seriously, who comes up with these titles/ translations? They are certainly creative if nothing else

  7. @kfan1883 . Ohhh, I really like your perspective on Mo Yuan's feelings about BQ. I think deep down our sexy Shifu is quite shy and given that he's probably new at this 'love' thing he's testing BQ's feelings. I mean if he had any inkling she returned his feelings and the arranged marriage was a burden to her he would definitely fight for her. Alas, her heart is already given to his twin and not him :bawling:

    Quote

I think it's more that MY is trying to "test out" what her feelings are now that he has developed feelings for her. i.e. BQ asks, "Why did you accept me as your disciple and allow me to stay even though you knew I was a girl?" And MY flips the question to her saying "Why do you think so?"

I don't necessarily think he was hinting that he let her stay due to love at first sight. I think it's more that he was hoping she will answer that way...even though he knows she loves YH, maybe a part of him wishes she will answer "is it because you liked me" and then MY can take that opportunity to confess his feelings. His personality is very reserved and subdued, such that he will probably never take the initiative to confess his feelings without the other person creating an "opening".

Not sure if that makes sense but I prefer to think of it that way instead of the "love at first sight" interpretation

Thank you @linh5000 for the BTS. I never know what they're saying and missed every caption as I can't read Chinese so it's nice to have someone from dramafever translate for us. It's pretty funny!!

  8. Gosh, I can't handle YeHua's demise and then wait for the Happy Ending so I'm going wait until Thursday when they release the final episodes. It will be too sad! My heart won't be able to take it and I'll just be mopping around the house, being morbid and laughed at and teased by my husband for being silly. That is getting so emotionally attached to a drama when the characters aren't even real :bawling: He just doesn't understand!!! So for the state of my mental health I'll refrain from watching episodes 55-56.

@Purestupidity  Have a wonderful day tomorrow!

  9. @Lyna and @12blbl I absolutely agree with your take on Mo Yuan's feelings for BQ. I'd always thought his acceptance of BQ is due to Zhe-Yan's recommendation and the fact that Kunlun fan chooses BQ, not because of his feelings, and it certainly wasn't 'love at first sight'.

To imply that he liked her from the beginning is rather contradictory and contrary to his persona. He is the God of War and he would never place romantic feelings ahead of his disciples. Yes, he definitely favours and dotes on Si Yin but I would say his head not his heart rules him.

I see this is where MY differs greatly to YH. YeHua definitely wears his heart on his sleeve for BQ whereas I see with MY, years of discipline and training has kept him calm and collected despite his disappointment.

I see a bit of creative license here. Oh well, I guess the director is entitled to her perspective, it just that it's so unlike MY and in my opinion totally out of character.

  10. @meifang89 I agree with you, it's really about personal taste and preference for a couple. I irrevocably love YeHua and Bian Qian love story so anyone else is more or less peripheral for me. Sorry if you're MY/BQ shipper or you happen to like DH/FJ relationship arc. Sometimes no matter how you explain it and at times there's no logic to it but you just have more of an affinity towards a particular person, that's what makes us so interesting and unique :)

Admittedly, I felt that DH & FJ story, as sweet as it was, in my view wasn't as fleshed out in terms of their characters. Simply put, I just didn't 'get' DH in the same way I got YeHua and I was much more sympathetic towards YeHua's plight than I ever was for DH.

Anyhow to each their own :)

I must say I'm not impressed by the book because like you've said FJ keeps throwing herself eventough DH keeps hurting her (I know he did make up but I still feel annoyed) so I put my expectation to their story in drama will be much better with all the changed -_-

True to that and he acts really well. If the one that played DH don't have acting ability eventough he's handsome I'm sure we all will want to strangle him

@meifang89 I couldn't agree more! It is frustrating and similarly I didn't like it as much as YeHua/ BQ story. Good thing the drama plays out the emotions much better than the novel. I felt so sorry for FJ. She's truly a Qing Qui girl through and through. When she loves it's with all her being and no-one can change her mind. I just wish she was little more wise in her action and just to hold back a little but then perhaps she would have never won DH if she a little less impulsive **sigh**. In the same way, if YeHua was a little less shameless with BQ he would have lost to Mo Yuan. So in the end I want FJ for DH because she deserves to be happy.

To reiterate, DH definitely makes up for it but it took me a while to like DH and forgive his numerous rejections of FJ. I kind of got protective of her because FJ in many ways reminds me of a little schoolgirl. Very sweet and innocent and she really means well.

  12. @meifang89 don't be too sad about DH & FJ. The author is using their ending to set-up their love story and it does get better. Although, it was frustrating on my part. Being a girl myself I wanted to shake FJ and tell her to have some pride in herself and let the guy do some of the chasing but poor FJ is so in love that she practically throws herself at DH. It doesn't bode well for her and let's be honest DH is in essence her love trial which does make them 'fated' in a roundabout way. I know it's an odd logic.

Good thing he does make up for it (plenty) in the second book but I was ready to throw the book at the wall. I just felt the reciprocation process for DH just took too long for my liking so I will admit I haven't quite warmed up to DH as much as I have for Mo Yuan and YeHua. I know his character was meant to cold but I kind of found him to be more of a blockhead than anything else (my own personal opinion)

Good thing Vengao is such a handsome guy otherwise I would be vomiting blood right now...

@peanutbutterjellytime I think Zhe-Yan is more of BQ/MY in the same way Lian Song is more of BQ/YH shipper. That's what good friends do. They cheer you on but equally they're sad for you when it doesn't go well. Awww. I really love the friendships in this drama!

  13. Goodness gracious me but if YeHua and Bian Qian were on Facebook today, they would definitely described their relationship status as "Complicated" with a capital 'C'. I completely understand why YeHua chooses not to tell BQ about their past relationship particularly when he's about to go missing for a little while in the mortal realm. He's afraid that BQ won't forgive him and will prevent him from seeing her. Then what if she chooses to drink the 'forgetful' medicine again or worse hook up with his sexy twin. Heavens forbid!! Yes, I'm pretty sure YeHua had already played out all those worst case scenarios in his head so I don't blame him for choosing not to say anything about their complicated relationship.

He knows and understands her temperament so I'm siding with YeHua here and I definitely wouldn't say anything, not until after the wedding and hopefully with a baby on the way too. I know I would have been sneaky like YeHua too

Poor YeHua, nothing ever goes to plan for him! If it wasn't so sad with such long-suffering consequences for our couple I would be inclined to say it's pretty funny.

Incidentally, Mark won an award for "most outstanding performance" for this drama. Not surprised and in fact I would have been disappointed if he didn't win something. So it got me thinking. If I was back at school again and I could give him any award, it would definitely be "excellent at telling me how he feels with eyes" award or "exceptional at tearing up and making me cry too" award.

Btw: I have made some references but I will call it out - I just love YeHua's 3rd uncle! He's such a staunch supporter and ally of YeHua that I think without him YeHua would have definitely given up. We all need someone like Lian Song in our lives and I'm happy that YeHua had a wonderful friend who would tease him and extract him from such a sorrowful state. That scene where YeHua thought SuSu was never coming back was magnificent! YeHua crying skills was just too beautiful! In fact all his crying scenes are just tooooo good!!

Personally, I think Lian Song's somewhat complicated relationship with Cheng Yu is pretty funny! So I actually like watching their interactions.

Just a little more on Mark ...I'm so pleased that his face is plastered all over the magazines, web and other fan-sites. His acting has been so amazing that he definitely deserves the popularity in China and the rest of the Asian countries right now! YEAH! I can't praise him enough!

  14. @meifang89 I don't mind, just as long MY get his girl, eventually! Oh dear it's 2am in the morning so I'll better head to bed :) Have a lovely evening and I shall log on to watch episode 50. It will be heartbreaking to watch our sexy Shifu lose  his favourite disciple but hopefully when we're not too grey and old we'll have an opportunity to see MY finally have his own story!

  15. @meifang89 and @Purestupidity :bawling: I know OUR super cool guy, Mo Yuan is finding it difficult to accept that he lost BQ to his twin. He deserves his own story and love-line!! Someone just as cool if not even cooler than BQ. Although I really BQ's character. I can't wait for MY's story. I would prefer someone who can ruffles his feather a little though. He's too calm and collected.  Someone who can make him lose his temper and self-control. It would tickle me endlessly if the heroine can do that to our God of War, logical and level-headed Mo Yuan!! Just look at him, despite being soooo disappointed he's still so calm and cool about it. :heart: Another swoon-worthy hero!! I've doing that a lot lately - sighing. Don't get me wrong I adore YeHua but there's something about Mo Yuan that appeals to me, a lot!!!

I have to admit for someone who's never been in love before and hasn't had a girlfriend ever, YeHua definitely swept BQ off her feet with his smooth kisses and glib tongue. Ohhh I love it!!!

MY you need to up your antics if want to win her heart perhaps that's why YeHua won the day. He's absolutely shameless when it comes to BQ. You got to love him for it and for that he definitely deserves BQ, it's just that I want MY to be happy as well.

  16. Oh my goodness but my heart really goes out to MY. What a super cool guy. I know it doesn't make any sense because it's the same actor, Mark!!  LOL. That's how good he is! I'm with you @Purestupidity I have a huge soft spot for MY.

Oh I really felt the emotion. The scene where ZheYan was saying to BQ don't be shy, tell your teacher. Oh be still my heart. You should have seen the look on MY's face, he was trying so hard not to look disappointed that someone else got in first, as though BQ literally slipped through his fingers.

That scene was sooooo good. I had to tell myself it's the same actor! Mark's fantastic as he gave such a different aura and feel towards BQ that you wouldn't know they are the same person even though they look the same! MY definitely likes her and poor thing his twin got in first!!

  17. @Lyna I love your comments  and of course the cute fangirl crush on both Mo Yuan and Ye Hua. Even I have to remind myself they are the SAME person! hehehe. Mark is so good that he's able to convince me that they're two different characters! He's too awesome. Btw: your new pic is lovely!

and @Purestupidity Thank you again for the lovely recaps! It saves me the trouble of having to re-watch some parts and try to decipher what they're saying. The summary helps a lot!!  :heart::heart:

On a more personal note, I don't think BQ and MY would ever eventuate. BQ does not have the same feelings as she does toward YeHua. Whilst with MY she reveres him and considers him as another father figure, in contrast ,every time she thinks of YH he gives her heart palpitations. Not that he's aware of it because he's under the misapprehension that BQ has romantic feelings for her Shifu. Despite that he loves her unconditionally (sigh - how swoon-worthy is that?!)

As we are nearing towards the end of the drama, I am reflecting a little on the love between YH and BQ. It has definitely left a deep impression on me. In that, it's really about forgiveness, giving a second chance to our other half and most importantly to at least try and understand each other. If only we all had three lifetimes to set things right and I absolutely agree with the author we may all have regrets, missed opportunities, things we want to do differently but above we should all learn to forgive our past mistakes particularly to those who hurt us. YeHua never set out to hurt her but he did by removing her eyes - to BQ this was the ultimate betrayal.

This is never easy as our expectations of our love ones are much higher since we are much more vulnerable to them. The cut tends to take longer to heal because we are exposed. BQ never expected YeHua who claimed to love her to have hurt so badly on the other hand she comes to the realisation that he loves her deeply and it's through this understanding that she eventually forgives him.

YeHua deeply regrets his mistake and throughout the whole drama tries to redeem himself because he truly loves BQ however, BQ to some extent stubbornly holds onto this betrayal which causes YeHua deeper pain. I personally thinks that BQ refuses to believe that YeHua really loves her because she has convinced herself that if he did he would have never removed her eyes. **sigh** We all know it wasn't as simple as that. It's through this lack of understanding that causes so much pain and heartache for our main couple.

I'm so pleased that the drama has retained this simple but profound message and Mark's protrayal has definitely added an extra dimension to the drama and it's so beautiful to watch. It wouldn't have been so enjoyable and I'm glad that he decided to play YeHua/ Mo Yuan. I know he was hesitant as he didn't quite fit the image of YeHua as much as some of the other male actors. This only proves that in the hand of a master even the critics eat their words!

  18. @dancingbee Ohhh I love Mark's crying ability and somehow he still manages to look so manly. All that contained emotion. I don't think I've seen anyone cry so well for a very long time! Perhaps it has something to do with the fact he's a very good actor.

Thank you everyone for their kind words. I'm so pleased that I'm not the only person fangirling Mark - he's just too good! I'm going to wait for Episodes 48-49 before I make any further comments. However, two things I've noticed about Mark  He has a lovely physics in that he's not too tall or muscular and he's not too buff. In other words he has a lovely torso and I absolutely love men with wide shoulders (swoon). Lastly, he has lovely hands. They look slender without being too feminine. They were the first two things I've noticed about YeHua. I like it that he's not your conventional 'handsome' man but kind of grows on you. Incidentally he looks very suave in a suit (a huge weakness of mine!!)

Anyhow, I shall continue to re-watch some of my favourite scene while I eagerly wait for BQ's confession and MY's return. How exciting!!

I'm very pleased that the director has included an additional scene to the ending. I totally agree that the novel ending was too abrupt. Understandably she did add an epilogue but my preference is to have a little more sweet time with our OTP. So I am so thrilled that the drama is a little more conclusive. That kiss at the end is sooooo satisfying!!

I absolutely love the director here! She has in essence retained the key events in the drama aligning it to novel. There are slight deviations but she has kept the integrity of the characters and since she hasn't deviated from the novel I am truly thankful for it! I have a simple philosophy, just follow the plot! It's shouldn't be too hard, right? Well, apparently so because adaptation I've seen so far has been rather disappointing but not this drama! It's been wonderful and Mark is definitely the icing on the cake

I love everything about this drama. The director and the actors (mainly Mark) have meet every expectation so far and the costumes have been lovely too! :heart::heart:

Just in case you didn't get the message that I have a huge crush on Mark (YeHua) the video should make it very clear

  19. @Purestupidity and @meifang89 I must be well and truly hooked or at least infatuated with Mark (in the most superficial way because it's not like I know him personally) I DO NOT like men with beards or any kind of facial hair (actually I secretly loathe them) but Mark with that beard as Mo Yuan is very smexy. Gosh I need to google some photos of cute kittens to get over this fangirling crush on Mark.

I don't know how Mark does it but he feels and acts like another person. Even his body language and in such a short space of time, you can tell he's not YeHua. Amazing!

I'm very curious as to how it plays out in the upcoming episodes. The author was rather ambiguous regarding MY's feeling about BQ so it will be interesting to see what's the director's take on it...oohhh how exciting. Although I'm more inclined to say he was 'interested' and would have liked the opportunity to progress or explore the relationship a little further but he's definitely not heartbroken by it. Not in the same way YeHua would be if BQ decided to choose MY after all. How sad would that be!

  20. @Sary Em Who is BAI ZI HUA?! Sorry had to say in cap-lock for sound effect. Don't get me started. Look it's a fabulous drama which I believe was also directed by the same director. It's another particularly angst drama (hmm bit of a pattern with me). Look it up on Soompi thread and there's plenty of information on it. Mind you, Wallace Huo was absolutely breathtaking (literally) as he was extremely aesthetically pleasing to the eye (to nth degree in my opinion).

I'm not into ethereal looking male lead but Wallace was so good in the drama that I was totally smitten (sigh, and more sighing)! Anyhow this isn't the forum for it. Just head over

As for Mark, my other flower boy, oh don't get me started as it may borderline stalker-ish   I won't deny it, I'm totally addicted to this drama. Similarly to BZH, this drama has taken over my life a little but who cares - I LOVE IT

  21. @omiki I'm so sorry I know it's meant to be a sombre moment because our sweet, selfless YeHua loses his arm but it simply looks as though it's been replaced by a potato or is it a gourd!? I shouldn't laugh but guilty as charged - I did! Standing ovation to the actors for keeping a straight face. I'm sooo impressed.

@Purestupidity Yes, he's pretty cool. I suspect it's his background so he doesnt take himself too seriously, just only his work! Gosh I'm in trouble!  I love this guy :heart:

LOL, you may regret encourging me - as it drives my husand mental because I do love a good ramble

@Lyna Again, I really like your insight and comments! I am so aligned with your views and similarly I found myself gravating towards my favourite scenes as we all eagerly wait for the next episodes.

I'm particularly anticipating the next episode as I can't wait for BQ to finally return YeHua's love! It's one of my favourite part of the novel and soon to be drama! YeHua will be completely exonerated by the end of the drama and I know (swoon and starry eyes) that I will be fangirling him again  We can all have party to celebrate our crush on Mark - in the most non-stalkish way.
