  1. @linh5000 lol, absolutely right I haven't watched Goblin. Heard about it and yes many have also raved about it but I'm a bit funny that way. I don't watch things just because everyone says I should. Or shows with 5 stars rating, or if there are many great actors starring in them, chemistry, script etc,. My drama base is watched on a very presonal level. Perhaps it's because I'm so time poor and a self-confessed workaholic. Also my tastes runs to somewhat quirky things. Sometime an actress or actor catches my eye as with Princess Go Go. Then I find myself compleletely hooked on the show.

One of the most important thing to note is that I'm not after good looks as these things are transient. I want something extra and Mark definitely got it! He holds the drama for me. I am just so impressed with his acting. What's even more gratifying was that I wasn't expecting it! I love these kind of surprises! As for Goblin, I've read the summary, seen some of reviews and it doesn't resonate with me in the same way this drama does.

So thank you for the recommendation but my opinion still stands - this is my favourite drama of the year :)

  2. @n00dle - thank you for Yehua song, OST. Yearning. The words are beautiful and describes YH pain and anguish of 'losing' SuSu but also the heartbreak of remembering her when she chooses not to. He's so conflicted because he wants her to remember but then he's afraid that she'll never forgive him.

I can't tell you right now how MUCH I love  this drama. Words cannot simply describe it and it's all thanks to Mark's portrayal of YeHua. I don't generally fall for fictional character but he has breathed so much life and character into this role that I am absoluetely speechless and astounded by the wonderful depiction of YeHua. He is such a complex character because he keeps lot of things inside but somehow Mark is able to translate all of YeHua's yearning, his bitterness, his sorrow, regret and deep love for BQ so wonderfully. I am running out of superlatives I know he is THAT good!! Just sublime (sigh).

I am definitely going to keep an eye out for him for any future projects.

As for YangMi, to be honest I dont mind her as BQ. Personally, I don't think BQ is as complex YeHua in that she chooses to forget the past. So her expression is in keeping with BQ's character. Much more straightforward and less incline to ponder on things too much. She is definitely a great counterpart and balance to YeHua.

Further, YeHua had hundreds of years to reflect on his mistake and his treatmant of SuSu. This experience has shaped him considerably and and forever changes him. You can tell that there are so many things he would have done differently and you can just imagine the 'what if' scenarios playing in his head - he is so torn with regret and 'missed opportunities'. Gosh the angst!! I LOVE IT!!! :heart:

This has got to be my favourite drama of the year!! Hands down!

  3. @Purestupidity Thank you so much for your kindness and effort in summarising the episodes. I honestly could only make out 20% of their conversation. I am patiently waiting for the subtitle to watch it again.

Episodes 43-44 - OH MY GOODNESS!! Wow and just woahh!! The chemistry is amazing and my favourite part is when BQ says to YH "so you want me" Just look at his expression!! It's absolutely priceless and what a man! I couldn't resist but watch it a few times!! So quick to take advantage of the situation and of course BQ. I approve!!!  Poor YH, he has been celibate for the longest time.

@kfan1883 . I love your comment!! So true, it's a hilarious scene. Thank you for translating it because I couldn't understand BQ's internal dialogue and now I appreciate the scene even more!

    Spoiler

Then the scene where he uses magic to remove her clothing - hahahaha. Mark, where have you been all my life!!!

  4. @peanutbutterjellytime - Are you serious! I would definitely say he's NOT ugly, far from it! As for being the 'ugliest' that is pure exaggeration. Gosh some people are soooo cruel (unnecessary!)

I mean he's not perhaps befitting of the image we consider 'handsome' during that period but to judge him simply on his looks is just plain superficial and silly. I would hate anyone to impinge my personality and ability purely on my looks.

    Quote

Though we are all fangirling over Mark now, let this be a reminder that not too long ago he was receiving a lot of hate and everywhere in China people were labelling him as the "world's ugliest" prince ever when they found out he was cast. And what does the man do? He shuts up all doubters and negativity with his acting and portrayal, and now people are retracting their words as they can find insanely attractive. There's even a term they're using to praise his performance -"cosmetic surgery acting"

Btw: I did laugh out loud about your comment "cosmetic surgery acting". This is ridiculous! But that's public opinion for you. Oh for those haters  :bawling: I would be crying right now if I was you :) Happy watching!

I've always thought Mark is a good-looking man. It's just made me feel awkward because he looks a lot like my good friend but I'm over it now! I mean beforehand he was pleasing to eye but now he has my admiration because he is indeed a very good actor! Now he's more than just a pretty face - he's attractive and worthy of fangirling!!

  5. @jayyepeee LOL I'm so with there!! Just look at the way he looks at her with a clear message to all those girls out there: That's my woman and whatever she says goes!! Happy wife, happy life. Goodness gracious me but I have a massive fangirl crush on Mark right now! He's so good!! He's definitely carrying this drama for me!! :heart::heart:

@peanutbutterjellytime :heart::heart::heart: I AM FANNING MYSELF AS WELL!! I LOVE IT!!! Sorry but moments like these are best expressed in caplocks! You've made my day!! :grin:

Oohhhh I was waiting for a jealous YH for sooo long and Mark does so much justice to his role and it's definitely well above what I was expecting!!! Let me hit replay x100.

  6. Ohh I will have to learn a few tricks from BQ. I love how she admonishes YH at episode 39 about the Princess. I don't understand all of it, perhaps about 20% but I believe she laying some of the blame or rather responsibility with YH. Noting that he should have never allowed her to stay at the palace giving the Princess false hopes that he would one day return her feelings which would have never eventuate.

He's such a smart man, he knows who was the real instigator of the situation so he wasn't too hard on her and by deferring to BQ he's making it clear to the Princess who really matters in his life!

I absolutely love the interplay here and just looked at how BQ handled the situation - with panache and finesse! I love how with a few words she assesses the situation and closes the chapter very quickly. That's why BQ is one of my favourite heroine!!

I believe by now BQ is definitely romantically interested in YH even if she denies it. The very fact that she's 'involves' says something as BQ would have definitely pushed the Princess towards YH if it wasn't the case. By visiting his 'home' and staying at this place she has accepted him. So it's only a matter of time before she accepts him completely and returns his feelings wholeheartedly. Not everyone jumps in when it comes to romantic love and BQ is generally reserve but when she does it's wholeheartedly and that's what I really like about her!

I must admit (a perverted) part of me loves the fact that YH is a little unsure of BQ's love and affection, and that he's feeling rather insecure about MY. I do like watching him struggle a little and Mark is sooooo good at it,!!! So I love every expression, the little smile and the nuances and that smirk even more. He's such a complex man in that he doesn't always explain himself and tends to keep a lot of things to himself.

You know being a Crown Prince despite being difficult at times does bring many privileges in that everyone you meet just wants to please you and there's generally an attitude of deference and servitude. With BQ, YH is besides himself because he so sure about everything except about her. I love it!!!

Although you've got to love these novels! They do create situations which are frequently so far from reality. Who would have three love confessions in one day!! Only in dramaland (hehehe).

Episode 37 is by far one of my favourite and of course Mark as YH is absolutely wonderful to watch!!! I would generally laugh out loud at such confession and moments like these are well and truly in the cringe-box but he's delivered the line so well that I'm rather touched by it - kudos Mark, my hat off to you!!!:heart::heart::heart:  It was a very sweet moment and I couldn't resist the urge but to re-watch the scene again. Even without the subtitles it was very romantic! *sigh*

  7. @Purestupidity LOL, Me too I can't wait for the scene. Btw: in case you didn't notice - this is the second time BQ propositioned Ye Hua. I love the fact that both times he didn't play the gentleman and took up her offer (hehehe)

Anyone else he wouldn't even glance at but as for her, he couldn't keep his hands to himself - I love it! It's so cute to watch Ye Hua seemingly lose control of himself whenever he's around BQ. You just won't know what he'll say and it's so enjoyable to see that she definitely brings out the 'naughty' side of him. I'm just basking in their cute interactions!

When Bai Qian needs the soul lamp to gather Mo Yuan's spirit later on, she had to go to Yehua and she asked if there is anything he wants in return, he said he only wants her (Kya!!!), she replied you want to spend the night with me? And thought what did she just say out loud, then try to run off, but Yehua took that chance and carried her off to the bed and tada!!! Kiss kiss! *cover eyes* Can't wait for that episode, sorry I must sound like a pervert! Heehee I don't think I'm the only one *wink*

Don't worry if you sound like a pervert then I'm the super pervert as I've been anticipating that scene ever since I read the novel which was summarised by Second Spring :)

  8. @Purestupidity I really like your summary and comments! I love how BQ is starting to develop romantic feelings for YH despite being a little reserve and even as far as denying it. I suspect that she has allowed a little more liberty because they are betrothed however she is definitely not 'immune' to him. Aside from being nice to look at (Mark, that is) I just love the way YH looks at her! As though the sun shines and sets on her, it's pretty difficult not to respond to such adoration :) Fundamentally, I love how it's not love at first sight for BQ. She has grown to love YH and I love the fact she has chosen him! You can tell if she didn't like him BQ would have ask YH to break off the engagement or found a way out.

Personally, without understanding everything they're saying as I still need English subtitles, I would say that she started to develop some feelings for him beforehand. Combination of living in close proximity at the fox cave, their daily interactions, cooking for her, how attentive he is and how much he dotes on her. Seriously he is the Crown Prince and I'm sure BQ could work it out that this is a special treatment.

    Spoiler

More specifically, I would also say the kiss scene at the brothel, although, it surprises BQ she definitely didn't object to it and it perhaps pique her interest and awakened some feelings. I know she didn't admit it but I think she did miss YH when she was at the mortal realm.

On a more personal note, I think it's really about BQ accepting YH's love and display of affection which to me truly demonstrates that she is returning his feelings and this is where I believe she does has romantic feelings for him too. What is most revealing is that BQ trusts YH as we all witnessed in the scene where she's about to faint she chooses him rather than Li Jing.

I love how in almost every scene YH just about closes in on BQ and totally disregards her personal space. Mark does it so well, it would have been just plain creepy if someone else did it but he's so lovesick and it's so super sweet to see that when it comes to BQ he just can't help himself!

I also love that YH more or less ignores all the other female but as soon as BQ arrives he practically hangs on every word she says. The poor guy is so in love he really doesn't know what to do with himself except follow her around. Awww so sweet. And moreover, I really like the fact that BQ is slightly oblivious that YH is so into her :)

  9. @meifang89 YES!! The drama gods do exist!! That stabbing scene with Ye Hua and Sujin was soooo satisfying. Better than guzzling down chocolate!! I did press re-play and boy such a guilty pleasure because watching him stab her and then not saying anything, as in not bothering to explain himself was even more satisfying!! Gosh I love YH - what an awesome, super cool guy :)

Yehua is a complicated character but if there is one thing that cannot be overstated, it is that he truly loved Su Su. Without subtitles, it's kind of hard to grasp the entire situation but the only way that Yehua could save SuSu's life was to do what he did. I'd say that the drama is doing a whole lot better of a job at the nuances than the novel did.

    I really like your comments!

I absolutely agree with you. You can't grow up in a palace situation without having certain complexes and Yehua is definitely a complicated character but there is no doubt that he truly loves BQ. I can't believe I'm saying but the drama is actually much better than the novel at this stage. Particularly the dramatic scene with SuSu eyes. That was perfectly done! It was so emotional and well-played by both actors. You could tell YeHua was particularly remorseful that he couldn't protect SuSu. The situation at the palace is so precarious you could be Crown Prince one day and easily the unfavoured son the next. There is no absolute and YeHua knew that SuSu's position was hanging by a thread.

@insanity29 I don't believe it was 'love at first sight' by either party. Although, I suspected SuSu was probably surprised that she was attracted to YH at the initial meeting. She became rather shy and blushed when he wrote his name on the palm of her hand, which is quite an intimate gesture. And trust me, you would never proposition any man if you weren't attracted to him.

As for YH, he always had a good impression about her because he saw her kindness and selfless acts towards Mo Yuan but you have to remember YH doesn't know SuSu is the mortal self of BQ. He just thinks SuSu looks like the MY's disciple. I believed romantic feelings started to develop during his time spent in his dragon state and when she replaced him with the bird YH realised that he missed SuSu, and probably was a little envious.

However, the decision was made when he wanted to meet her personally, as a man that was when he actually liked her. Remember Lian Song was surprised that YeHua was even 'interested' in a girl given that he's such a stoic man and never demonstrates his affections easily.

Btw: I love his friend, Lian Song. He's smart and loyal and he does everything to help Ye Hua. I love their interactions and one of my favourite scenes was when they were discussing how to 'meet' SuSu. So cute!!

  11. @meifang89  Spoiler ahead if you're interested.

    Spoiler

YH loses his arm because he went to fight four mystical beasts to obtain the lantern which will help collect and revive Mo Yuan's soul. BQ was going to retrieve it but YH was worried she would be severely injured (her fighting level is definitely not up to his standard). He does get a replacement however as a consequence he won't be able to use it for about 10000 years. What is so lovely about this act is that he is very jealous of the relationship BQ has with MY even if it's platonic, and yet he did it anyway and because he knows BQ so well that she will sacrifice herself to save her love ones.

He truly loves her and you will see just how much as the drama progresses. I feel so sorry for the darn guy because he is very remorseful about what he did to SuSu.

  12. I have been pondering why I love this drama so much aside from Mark's amazing acting skills and even Yang Mi is so up to scratch with her acting skills.

It was lovely watching YH and BQ fall in love, to see how smitten he was and how cute they were together but real love needs to stand the test of time. What I see here is that it can weather the storm through trust and understanding. YH and BQ were fortunate enough to have three lifetime to grow and develop.

It is really all about understanding and forgiveness. I know BQ had every reason not to forgive him and even chose to forget him. I completely understand her sentiments.

And yet Ye Hua always doted on her because he truly loves BQ despite not always being able to understand her. Don't get me wrong YH wanting to protect her had made some unwise choices and compounded with the fact that he didn't confide in her caused quite a number of misunderstanding.

And yet I am very sympathetic to YH particularly with Mark's portrayal because deep down the poor guy was scared he will lose her (sigh, which he did anyway). He had seen (at a very young age) how cruel and heartless the palace is and he didn't want SuSu to experience the same hardness and he tried to protect her by not focusing on her too much. Being a favourite has its downsize as it frequently invites jealousy.

Gosh, I am going to wait and watch 4 episodes. This drama is sooooo good!!! The acting is so spot on and it's wonderful to see it played out beautifully.

BTW: I didn't realise SuJin was so horrible in every possible way. She's so vindictive just because she refuse to take no for an answer. I personally believed that SJ truly disillusioned herself that SuSu being a mortal didn't match YH and she honestly thought she was the better candidate. Setting aside the fact that it was position she had always coveted and that YH really loves BQ. I forget some time how deceptive the heart is, wanting to see what it wants. SJ couldn't accept that she was never in the running.

Don't worry my fans, BQ will provide one of most terrific 'set down' for SJ when her immortal status is reinstated. SJ will get her just dessert and I will make sure that I replay that scene!!

  13. @peanutbutterjellytime lol, no my husband wasn't jealous but he was missing his wife :) I was too obsessed (fond memories)...

Oh I'll definitely check out the movie version. Yang Yang a little too effeminate in my opinion but I'm willing to give him a chance.

and @Lyna me too, I wonder if Neitzen (probably the most hardest people to please on earth and perhaps beyond) are impressed by his acting.

@jolin_chan hey shout out to my BZH fangirl :) a big wave and hello. Lovely to meet you here. Hope you're well?

Sorry got to run (literally) hubby is calling...hope I'm not in trouble again (hehehehe)

  14. @peanutbutterjellytime Ooohh I'm definitely on the fangirling bandwagon with you. I'm not one who's easily gets fangirling. I'm probablyshowing my age here. Only three actors got me so addicted and only one drama got me banned (by my eeeevvviiilll husband) from Soompi forum for a month simply because I stayed up until 3am to watch Bai Zhi Hua live. Mind you I must have possessed by a 16 year old because it was 3 nights in a row. Thinking back now it was probably a bit excessive not to mention that I am no spring chicken (more liked seasoned chicken) that could bounce back so easily after 3 nights of drama orgy.

Anyway, back to more important things. YeHua, gosh what a man! I love it how he almost looks like he going to grab BQ and run away with her, only be so disappointed when she almost wants nothing to do with him. Even to point of not caring. It must have hurt terribly. Oh his eyes, I love how expressive they are!!

I haven't read the novel just the summary so I know what happens from all the various comments. As for the movie, I want to watch it regardless if I'm not a Yang Yang fan. I've been so pleasantly surprised with the drama perhaps I will be again with the movie version :)

  15. Where is BQ fan?! I love the skinship so far and it's going to get even better!! Just like @peanutbutterjellytime and @lianyi I am absolutely fangirling Mark Chao in stalker mode. I was put-off initially because he looks like a friend of mine who's happily married and I see him like a brother that I never wanted so it was kind of awkward to see my look-alike friend incarnated as Mark kissing someone who wasn't his wife but I'm cool about it now.

I know it's unnecessarily complicated but that the kind of person I am. At any given time when I see an actor who even remotely resembles my brother or a family member or even an honorary brother (and the chances are pretty high) I kind of get icky watching any romantic scenes. So I was very hesitant but this couple are sooo cute together that I had to get over it. And, let's face it I have a massive soft spot for a good kisser.

Mark is definitely on the top of the scale I must say

Poor Ye Hua he's terribly lovesick, frustrated that she can't remember him and chooses not to, and all he can do is remember and worse he's soooo jealous of his twin brother! He plays that so well. I really love it how Mark doesn't overdo it. Oh he's definitely brooding, intense and serious but he does it in a way that gets the message across without being creepy and cringe-worthy. Trust me I seen many of those and it's just wrong! It's any wonder the actress can keep a straight face...

  16. @Lyna I love your comments! What, you mean repay with her body - oh I see, I must have missed that translation. No wonder he looks so happy but in a 'contained' way. Trying to look dignified but really doing a happy dance on the inside.

Make that a HUGE fan crush on Ye Hua which borderlines 'stalkerish'. He's lucky that I'm happily married so it's only a good perv with no touching or creepy emails

He's kind of like Wallace Chung, not the most handsomest of men but he starts to grow on you because of his screen presence and that's what I love most about Mark. Before you know I look like this  Image result for emoji starry eyes

Most of all, I love a crown prince who isn't easily swayed by beauty and only loves one woman in one lifetime - a huge weakness for such men even if they drive me crazy with their communication issues (or lack of) and wanting to protect their other half by telling them nothing and expecting 200% trust - ahhh. Oh well  I guess no-one's perfect!

    Quote

And I just love seeing those small (secret) happy smile he gives

I know what you mean!! I hoard those secret smiles like golum does with his ring. Okay maybe that's a creepy analogy. But you know what mean!! You can tell that his status as a crown prince brings lot of responsibility and he is almost by default quite a serious man who rarely smiles. So with BQ he smiles a lot and he's very happy with her, as though he can't help himself. Just too adorable. I could almost forget that he has communication issues and he is a perfect man!

  17. lol - if you watch YH's expression in Episode 13 around 27:13, when BQ suggests to repay her for her kindness for saving his life is to get marry. He's initially surprised but then the realisation that his dream is about to come true with Christmas, his birthday and Chinese New Year all arriving in that one moment. Like he's received the greatest gift of all - it's so adorable!!

  18. @frostflower14 :heart: I love your recaps and I can't thank you enough for your generosity with your time and effort in translating some of the more difficult parts. For people like me, where English is their first language and everything else is with subtitles, I am eternally grateful and it's such a lovely thing to do :)

I read them and hoard them like Pokemon cards.

  19. Ohh! I definitely love Ye Hua, the strong and silent type but then again these type frequently drive me up the wall! I can see that YH is totally smitten with BQ and he's well and truly in love with her. She doesn't display any of the childish antics that you see in most people. Due credit to BQ for being so reasonable and not livid with YH. I mean she has every right to be given that she's been abandoned (literally) without any warning but worse without any explanation.

We have the luxury of seeing the whole picture but BQ doesn't and I completely understand why she chose to head back to the 'mortal' realm. She gave YH many chances to explain things to her and I can say from experience trust without any communication is very difficult and even more so to sustain a long-distance relationship.

On a side note, how impressive is Mark Chao?!! I absolutely love his portrayal of YH. Admittedly, he wasn't quite what I envisioned (looks-wise) but he has definitely delivered in all key aspect of the role. The expression, the aura, the demeanor and his overall chemistry with Yang Mi. :heart::heart:. Now I can't imagine anyone else playing that role. He's definitely won me over!!

I will admit that BQ is one of my all-time favourite female lead. She's kind of cool and I really like her debonair and laissez-faire attitude but most importantly, she's very kind-hearted and loyal. Also I really like YM's acting here. It was a little stiff to begin with but she's done a really good job here!!

I also like the flow of the storyline and admittedly it's a little different to the novel but they appeared to have retain in essence the core themes and relationship. They have removed some of the controversial theme, if not more interesting arc of the relationships. However it hasn't detracted the overall feel of the drama. I'm thoroughly enjoying it!!
