  1. Whenever the christmas is around the corner, I always have this mixed emotions, especially when I listen to this song from John Lennon (original singer) or Celine Dion :

John Lennon / Celine dion - So this is christmas (see below Lyrics)

    So this is Christmas
And what have you done? (time for self-reflection)
    Another year over
And a new one just begun (looking for my new year resolution)

    And so this is Christmas
    I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
    The old and the young

    A very merry Christmas
    And a happy New Year
    Let's hope it's a good one
    Without any fear

    And so this is Christmas
    For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
    The world is so wrong

    And so happy Christmas
    For black and for white
    For yellow and red ones
    Let's stop all the fight

    A very merry Christmas
    And a happy New Year
    Let's hope it's a good one
    Without any fear

    And so this is Christmas
    And what have we done?
    Another year over
And a new one just begun

    Ans so this is Christmas
    I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
    The old and the young

    A very merry Christmas
    And a happy New Year
    Let's hope it's a good one
    Without any fear

    War is over over
    If you want it
    War is over
    Now

I am looking for peace in the world, can we have this wish in 2024 or sooner than we expect? No more war, am I greedy :(

Wishing everyone an early Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2024 !!!

  2. @Sleepy Owl - I am glad that you liked Kingdom series and "The Wailing" too.

Did you watch finished the Arthdal Chronicles S2? I like this S2 more than S1, in terms of their profound storyline and their special visual effect under the sea and the castle, and both sides adopted different strategies and tactics to win the battle. Some of the war scenes reminded me of similar scenes that ever appeared in the "Braveheart" movie before... :D

I can feel the good intentions and sincere work of the screenwriter and director, with their strong spirits to realize their dreams for the world. The messages that came out from Tanya's words are crystal clear. This is what they want to achieve, but can the country's leaders withstand all the challenges they face currently and in the future? About the ending part, the previous queen Tae Al-ha and Eun Seom's twin brother will come back for the land (Arthdal) - it's quite similar to what we see in middle east war now - LAND :D

I will be surprised if they plan to have S3. Because cost will be the major factor since they are using lots of special visual effects.

  3. @partyon - Yes, "The Wailing", I had a nightmare after watching it. I guess that's the reason the film received the award for the year - "Baeksang Arts Award for Best Film 2017."

Yes, my dear, you must quickly catch up the "Strong Girl Nam Soon" it's so entertaining....:joy:

@larus - Yes, I am crazy over those intense thriller and suspense movie or drama. Kingdom series are rare gem, not just because of the bloody zombies, it's more on the storyline : One of the series mentioned their strategic plan is to shut down and contain those zombie swarms using various tactics. How they learnt to fight against the zombies since they are walking dead who can only survive at night.  Understanding the enemy's weaknesses is important to any strategic plan.

Zombies are created due to the capitalist greed of the rich and power. Simply put, it was moral corruption that caused the kingdom to be in such chaos and creating political turmoil within a rich historical context..

If I put in an analogy, the politicians (bad guys) often use "weapons" to kill and control people (in Joseon era - ancient times, they used walking dead to breed and spread horribly), similarly, in the current context, many politicians use "nuclear weapons" to control people or use "powerful viruses" to harm people.

Kingdom Season 3, probably still a long way to wait.....I feel that somehow lack of momentum after watching S2...But still, I would strongly encourage you to watch it if you have time.

If you like suspense thriller, you can watch the below 3 good kdrama: :D

    1. The Deal
    2. Kidnapping day
    3. Evillive
    4. Escape of Seven - too exaggerating and bloody. Can do without. Is this the same script writer as the penthouse one?

  4. @agenth Thanks for the invite

I don't really watch the vampire series in kdrama often, I watch mostly the zombies drama/movies. See below list - am I crazy, I did not know I watch almost all of them, except one. :astonished:

    • All of Us Are Dead
    • Kingdom 1, 2, 3? and Ashin of the North
    • Happiness
    • Zombie Detective
    • Sweet Home
    • Train To Busan
    • The Wailing
    • The Odd Family: Zombie on Sale (except this one, I didn't watch)
    • Peninsula
    • ALIVE

If i rank them in sequential :

For movie - I will put "The Wailing" as Top 1 for the most scary movie.

For zombie drama, I will put Kingdom series as top.

The most lousy zombie movie is Peninsula - pls do not waste time to watch it.

  5. @partyon Thanks for the invite. This drama is so fun to watch, especially the main lead couple, they are so cute....

One of my favorite scenes is when the strong girl throws the lady's bag that fly out from the Korean sky, all the way to Mongolia, and drops it in front of the old granny. It's hilarious, but it's really hilarious entertainment. It's funny in many ways in the scenes, no need to explain, just watch them. All the women in the family are strong while the men are weak, this was another interesting part to view the differences.

Although the plot is a bit exaggerated, I just simply love it, not to mention there is a charming guy with sexy lip (2nd male lead for villain role) for our eye candy

    @partyon

Strong Girl Nam-soon- I did not know there is a thread discussion for this drama, it's ok as I may not have time to login. Haha, the problem is I don't login everyday due to my work schedule, sorry.   But a good entertaining drama like Strong girl is good for me.

  7. @confusedheart thanks for the sharing of upcoming drama, good list to refer to.

Any thing there is thriller and suspense storyline will be my cup of tea :

Below are the list that I am waiting for :

    • Gyeongseong Creature
    • Death's Game
    • Castaway Diva
    • A Bloody Lucky Day
    • Maestra
    • Sweet Home 2
    • Vigilante

Just finished watching "Arthdal Chronicles S2", it was a thumbs-up drama for me.

The combination of religion and ancient fantasy is profound and far-reaching significance. Creating a new peaceful world with different races, which is what all mankind is pursuing, this is very ironic, especially with the ongoing war in the Middle East. Very very sad....

My current favourite watching list :

    1. Strong Girl Nam-Soon (JTBC) - very comical drama and i enjoyed it very much
    2. The Deal
    3. The Kidnapping Day
    4. Evillive (ENA)
    5. The Worst of Evil

  8. Sorry for joining late to the party.

My First oppa and unnie was the old drama "The Hotelier" (2001) by Bae Yong-joon and Song Yoon-ah, storyline was good too as it covered the hotel acquisition by the talented team. I fell in love with this couple and began to follow all their projects ever since. I even kept the OST in my phone music album.

For now, both are almost retired or seldom appear in the entertainment bizshow especially Bae Yong-joon. Therefore, I have switched to watch many other K- actors/actresses' drama as long as they have good performance with well written script storyline.

    Male artists (not in sequence)

Song Seung-heon and Hyun Bin (they taste like an old wine, the older the better, handsome men that look even better as they age, maintained very well)

Jung woo-sung, Lee Jung Jae, Kim Soo Hyun, Song Joong Ki, Lee Byung-hun, Jang hyuk, Won bin, Park Seo Joon, Park hyung-sik

    Female artists (not in sequence)

Lee Young Ae (long lasting beauty queen, never grow old)

    Kim so yeon

    Son Ye-jin

    Lee da-hee

    Seo Yea-ji

    Han so Hee

@lebeaucouple Hmmm… Maybe I should check out Moving then. I’ve been seeing some mixed reviews so I’ve been cautious to start it because I’ve been dropping almost every drama I started this year. :grimace:

Wait, Jo In Sung oppa only appears in ep 7? :scream: Ok, I think I will wait a bit more to make sure he really does appear more after that. He is the main reason I want to watch the drama. Have loved him since Something Happened in Bali.

Your OPPA Jo In Sung Go and Han Hyo Joo  will be in a romantic love line in Ep 8 and 9, (i enjoyed seeing their each encounter in the lift lobby as well as in the coffee machine area which were planned ones and their love line was really funny) but it can be sad, they both play a veteran agent of South Korea's National Intelligence Service with a super human power. Sorry I couldn't tell you more.... Hope you find time to catch up this drama soon. A fantasy story but a good one .

Moving feels different from any other Kdrama I've seen so far.  It's really well done, but it does feel different from both other Korean as well as other Western (it's produced by Disney) series that I've seen.

Yes I can't agree with you more.... I watched it last week, until EP7, waiting from Disney to release further. Total EP should be 20.

I almost missed out the first EP, but because of the high rating and good review from the platform, i continue to watch and to my surprise, the storyline is very unique...I wish I can be the first chubbly child (main lead) that could fly high to the cloud, it was always in my dream when i was a kid ...:D . I love the first female child too, she is so pretty, good acting with high potential....

@partyon - Jo In Sung only appeared on last part of EP7, I believe he will have more screen times on the upcoming EP.

I gave up on heartbeat because i don't really enjoyed the female lead's acting. Should I watch "Cold blooded intern" was it good?

Oh no, it's my goal to watch all 250 imdb top movies:

    https://www.imdb.com/chart/top/

I still have about 60 left. Have seen like 190 of them. But this is since I was a kid, and I am in no hurry to complete it. I watch about 1 new movie on the list per month. :sweatingbullets: How many of them have you watched?

Thanks so much for your top chart list. Very good for me to refer to it.

Same like you, I watched movies since I was a kid. I even skipped class once with my classmate just to watch good movie during my college days :D, how crazy I was back then. My whole family especially my mom also love to watch old movies, I think it's become a habit we've grown up with, starting with our family "culture". :D

To answer your question, I can't remember how many movies I watched before, too many to count :o But if I recalled it based on your list that you sent, I do remember rewatching "The Shawshank Redemption" and "The Dark Knight"  and I fell in love with Christian Bale after this "Dark Knight" and began to watch his previous work.

You must watch top list No 1. "The Shawshank Redemption" if you have not done so. Or read the book of The Shawshank Redemption. Super good movie and a very meaningful and inspiring storyline. Facts of life, every single words and the vocal and speech pace from Morgan Freeman are so powerful, I must give compliment to the author who wrote this book.

Also, how many foreigner films you had ever watched?

"Life is beautiful" (1997 Italy film and won the oscar award) -inside IMDb list too

Highly recommended to you, it was a bittersweet comedy film but carried a very unique and very unusual way of storytelling during the world war. I was amazed with the writer and director great work :)

Chingu, am such a big fan of movies that I have taken it as my mission to watch all movies on the top 250 imdb list. :D

Still have more than 50 movies left. Do you have the same mission?

It's hard to find them tbh. Find them on YouTube, Netflix, other streaming platforms, good old fashioned TV, etc. On my watchlist at the moment I have Heat and Braveheart (which I think are on NF). What about you?

I was so shocked when you mentioned mission to watch movies on IMDb list? :mrgreen:Your target was 50 over movies ??

No no no....i don't have any mission, I watch movies based on my time schedule, good rating and preferred storyline. I thought I am a movie-goer, but you are higher ranking than me...Bravo.....:approves:

I hope you have chosen those good movies that I picked for you in my list shown on previous page :)

Braveheart - it's totally worth to watch it but it takes quite long hours for me.

Apocalypto and Gladiator are worth to watch too.

Gladiator 2 film - will be released in 2024

Not sure some of the recent movies are still in your 50+ movies list? LOL :D

  15. Thanks for the tagging. This is a test for our memory question. :D

Well, I seldom rewatch drama, except for those particular "scenes with beautiful music on the background" that I enjoyed the most (not the whole drama) and thus kept replaying it. Those were the days.......just to name a few rewatched the love scenes for : It's Okay to Not Be Okay, Crash Landing on You, My Girl....... :D

But currently too many drama to select with so little time, I will not do that to rewatch old drama. I rather rewatch old movies including the black and white movies.

Lately, I had been watching the biography movies for some famous people with their controversies storyline : Elvis Presley, Charlie Chaplin, Oppenheimer. Watching these types of movies at different life stages can have different perceptions and understanding. I am glad that I have different views after watching it. The same goes with old drama.

The current airing KDrama are disappointing, I switch to watch US drama (usually shorter EP) and I have completed the legal drama "Accused" (very thought-provoking and meaningful storyline)

  17. @Wuzetian , No it's not boring, just that i got work to do and the china drama with 39 EP was pretty long for me. To be frank, I don't usually watch Chinese drama unless it was recommended by someone.  I watched Korean dramas and foreign good movies a lot.

I chose "The knockout" and "The three body" because of good reviews by the netizens. I watched some other good old Chinese drama, but I forgot the names, Lol:D

@hush puppy Yes, I agree with you that any revolutionary changes must be in a group with an ongoing effort, the drama using An xin as a main representative to point out the severe injustice of the society. Using the contrast role, An Xin vs Gao Qi Qiang is a vivid comparison. I like this part.

20 hours ago, hush puppy said:

Based on the Monologue of the Anti-Crime Supervisory Commissioner, Xu Zhong in Ep 5, he pointed out sharply:

"If market administrators like Tang Xiao Long and Tang Xiao Hu who dominate one side are the fuse, it is better to say that there are indeed some unfair distributions in our society.  Causing the grassroots people to feel that it is impossible to get rich without relying on illegal means.  So some people who take risks appear.  The evil forces and their protective umbrellas were not formed overnight".

Yes, the above is exactly i like what Xu Zhong's highlighted, very sharp , it hits the nail on the head...Now I found another like minded people in this forum :)

Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. It reflected in many countries and systems. As the saying goes, "Power corrupts people." When the intention is to reach a certain social status and higher level, it often reveals a "nature" that has never been shown before-perhaps the spirited spirit in the period of decline, the common enemy when fighting with peers, may be involved in a certain degree of control, gradually make those behaviors that used to be righteous indignation-this is not only frustrating, but also cruel human nature.

Those who have power are more likely to materialize and use subordinates to help them achieve their goals. Powerful people often need to control and manipulate the overall situation, and then lead many subordinates in the same right direction. In order to achieve performance, he needs to influence people or motivate morale by using manipulation technique. Behind this, there must be a huge price to pay. All these had displayed clearly in the drama.

@Wuzetian, Yes you should start watching this drama...it was good.:)

  18. @Wuzetian Thanks for the invite. I just finished watching the whole EP. It took me almost a week to complete. :D But worth watching it.

The script was excellent and the actors are fantastic, especially the villain role, Gao Qi Qiang, this character role is so rich and complex whereby only the actor Zhang Song Wen is able to portray well, he is a phenomenal actor.

At the end of the drama, it is said that the dark and evil forces can be eradicated because of An xin's persistence, but in fact, it is mainly because the “dark and evil forces” have encountered more powerful officials to clean them up, and they have nothing to do with An xin's cannon fodder. This drama seems to be promoting a story of evil and injustice from the beginning to the end, but in fact it explicits a story about whoever has the most powerful and who is justified. The "law" is just a decoration in China. Look at the current President in China, Mr xi jinping. The Chinese high growth, high corruption model has come with high risks growth and enormous inequality. Many viewers commented the ending was too idealistic, far from the realistic, but i am sure with the hit drama in play, there will be hope for people in China, even though Corruption is the biggest obstacles in China and it takes time to remove them. Look at our An xin from black hair turn into white hair...Lol:D

I am surprised China drama can do such a great work in terms of visual effect on science fiction especially in the universe and galaxy area even though there are still some minor flaws in this drama.

I have not watched "The Knock out" yet, was hesitating to watch because of the long EP...:D I will try to find time to watch it. There is one old drama story was quite similar to that, corruption within police force.

My current kdrama watch list (still airing) are :

    1. Taxi driver 2

    2. Big Bet 2

    3. Red balloon

    4. Strangers Again

    5. Hate to love - one of the funny romance dramas I enjoyed in first part of 2023.

    Waiting for sequel are :

    1. Bait 2  (Bait 1 was good) @Sleepy Owl - you should watch it :)
    2. Arthdal Chronicles 2
    3. Glory 2
    4. Island 2
    5. Squid Game 2
    6. D.P. 2
    7. Shadow Detective 2
    8. Sweet Home 2
    9. The Uncanny Counter 2

Did anyone watch the highly acclaimed trilogy of Chinese science-fiction

c-drama called "Three-Body" (total : 30 EP) -- a mind-blowing drama. To me, it was a slow pace initially for the first 20 ep, but thereafter the drama getting interesting and exciting. It is a living proof that the drama follow the original book and turn out to be an amazing work that applauded by the New York times and also the Chinese viewers.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2023/02/03/arts/television/three-body-review.html

I hope someone enjoyed this fiction drama as it would leave it to our imagination and interpretation of the key message of the drama. But again, never say never to possible but mysterious unknown events in this universe.

If you accept UFO or Alien, you probably will accept there are some things more intelligent than humans that are in another part of the universe :)

  21. Love to Hate You? - how can we miss out this drama when the two pairs (1st & 2nd leads couples - 4 of them) are so "eye candy"...storyline was fun and entertaining...happy ending as expected. Awesome, it's so fun to watch when there is a demand for equality, a strong woman character like Miran, appear in Korean society....something unusual, of course, the couples are really in good chemistry.

I watched this drama is because of the 1st male lead Teo Yoo, a handsome guy with charming eyes (wow, he was born in Cologne, Germany), he caught my attention was because he was acted in Arthdal Chronicles. (which I am anticipating for the Season 2 now).

    • Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938
    • The First Responders Part 2

    I will watch :

    • Love to Hate You - - Kim Ok Bin, Yoo Tae Oh (i like the 1st male lead since he acted in Arthdal Chronicles)
    • Gyeongseong Creature - Park Seo Joon, Han So Hee (i understand that this drama will have sequel too)
    • Queen of Tears - Kim Soo Hyun, Kim Ji Won

The rest of the drama depends on the storyline and the actors/actresses, it can be frustrating when the story is weak even when there are A-class actors in it.

  23. Happy New Year to you, chingu, @agenth thanks for your tagging :)

    1) Daily/weekend dramas - i don't watch any daily drama at all.

    2) C-dramas - i rarely watch C-drama, but only choose one or two old drama that are highly recommended by my friends, such as "The Long Night" (2020), a thriller suspense crime story that worth for watching. I used to watch old C-drama with political history genre.

    3) Best of the Rest of KDramas

    • The King of Pigs - it was a pity that this drama was under-rated or not popular in Asia but I highly recommended to watch. The webtoon novel won the International awards. I really hope more people can watch this super fantastic drama - I personally felt even better than "The Glory" in terms of revenge storyline although Glory have not finished yet (Glory has famous casting, while the King of Pigs are from a group of young kids and unpopular actors/actresses) - School Violence is always an ongoing topic in South Korea or in rest of the countries, this drama will always leave a place in my mind because it's a disturbing and depressing tragedy after watching it, it makes you feel that there is an urge that the Korea government or school should implement strict policy for the school. Does it help that his sacrifice in the finale will hit them hard and clearly? Very gray...I have no idea....I do hope the strong implication finally sheds some light...

  24. @partyon thanks for the tag, I am still having the holiday mood. Last year one of my top favourite movie by James Cameron : "Avatar 2, The Way of Water" with 3D visual effect and Dolby Atmos sound effect. Worth the price and time spent. Awesome movie although storyline is simple, but the gist of meaning is clear.

Based on the category (thriller/suspense) that you listed above, below are some drama that I think are quite worth watching...

    1. Blind - good wrap up ending...
    2. Doctor Lawyer
    3. Through the Darkness
    4. Again My Life - good story line but I wonder why the ending caused so much controversy by the netizen. I was totally fine with the writer who wrote that way because we must understand "corruption' will never end in this world so long as people are greedy and chase for money and power. Most people desire to separate their worlds into polarities of dark and light, ugly and beautiful, good and evil, right and wrong, inside and outside. Everyone spends their lives trying to balance their world between good and evil. Life is not always in a happy ending. The message is clear in the drama, the fight between the good and the evil will continue, and it runs through the heart of every man. Inside each of us, there is the seed of both good and evil. It's a constant struggle as to which one will win. And one cannot exist without the other. When the finale featured a powerful, evil, corrupt chair woman in the meeting, it was a clear hint that the battle would continue...
    5. Big Mouse - Many wondered why the male lead turn into Big Mouse boss in the end, and in fact I was quite like this arrangement, it was like the movie "God Father", Only when you become a Monster can you stand against powerful evil. There is no fairy tale.
