yea, doing all the strokes in order and that is important... I really only know how to read a little bit of Chinese and write even less, my name and a few words.

But I thought ppl in China nowadays all write in simplified Chinese, how come everyone's writing in taditional?

even though traditional seems kind of more cluttered and complicated, it overall looks better imo. like this character 興 compared to this one 兴. i'd prefer the 1st one.

Because most of the people typing so far are Taiwanese or from HK

yeah.. i agree that although it's harder to write, traditional looks a whole lot better than simplified. i guess it looks more sophisticated. not like i can write in traditional anyway though -_-

Any books that you can pick up and just start learning again? Maybe there are some DIY stuff around...

什麽是DIY?

appearantly..im dead in writing now..XD i can still read and type..but writing..@_@'' nothing

Writing's like the hardest out of the 4 categories.

If you follow the strokes, it makes calligraphy and search through dictionaries a lot easier. Oh yeah.. 4000 sounds good. There are a lot of ancient words (on tea labels, etc..) that most natives can't read. Hardly anyone knows all the characters. You'll know you've learned enough if you can go around a Chinese-speaking area (even Chinatown) and read/understand 99% of what's around you.

有過了四万個字中國字 -_-

Bleh...幸好我只要知道4000左右=/

Or they have their settings on traditional :w00t: xD

當攘超過4000字.. 可是很多字永遠不會用.

Just wondering, why don't people include Macao in their list of places that write Traditional? :-X

澳門都用繁體字ㄚ!! 海外華橋也大部分用繁體字.

HAHA :phew: 一定是男的啦!

你不會知道如果我沒講...XD

I was wondering how you install Chinese on your computer? Is there like a free program I can download?

If you have XP or 2000, you can install it straight from the disk.

XP should already have it integrated in your system.

Start > settings > control panel > regional and language settings > play around with it.

You may need the disk for other operating systems.
