Kwon Na Ra transforms into a lawyer who represents ghosts in Midnight Photo Studio.

Midnight Photo Studio unfolds the story of Seo Ki Joo, a photographer who runs a photo studio only for ghosts, and Han Bom, a passionate lawyer who ends up working with him.

Kwon Na Ra plays the role of Han Bom, a once-successful prosecutor who now works as a lawyer, struggling to make ends meet.

Despite becoming a lawyer, Han Bom still retains the strong sense of duty and justice she had from her days as a prosecutor. Hence, she often behaves as if she were still a prosecutor.

For example, she keeps scolding clients who come to the lawyer's office, or sometimes suddenly conducts interrogations. Her actions make it evident that old habits die hard.

Whenever her senior colleague Kang Soo Mi (Park Jung Ah), the head of Kang Soo Mi Law Firm, sees her actions, she often complains about them to her.

Due to her behavior, Han Bom's client requests have dried up, leaving her with only pro bono cases. She even struggles to pay her rent and is already behind by three months.

As her life spirals downward, she encounters Seo Ki Joo (Joo Won), a weird tenant who moves into her house and works as a special photographer for ghosts.

As she becomes entangled with him, Bom begins to see things that were previously invisible to her, and for the first time, she plans to come to the defense of the guests (ghosts).

What circumstances led a struggling lawyer like her to take on cases of ghost clients?

The stills portray Han Bom's strong presence. Her sharp gaze and her charisma show she still has the habits of a prosecutor. Yet, her bright smile hints she is an exceptional character, raising anticipation and curiosity about her personality.

ENA’s “Midnight Studio” has shared a sneak peek of Eum Moon Suk’s character!

“Midnight Studio” tells the thrilling yet mysterious story about a prickly photographer Seo Ki Joo (Joo Won), who runs a professional photo studio that only exists for the deceased, and passionate lawyer Han Bom (Kwon Nara) as they cross life and death with the night guests.

Eum Moon Suk takes on the role of Baek Nam Goo, the new ghost employee at the photo studio. In the newly released images, he exudes a rugged and commanding presence, hinting at his intimidating aura. However, beneath this facade lies a past where he served as a fearless detective, renowned for apprehending notorious criminals without hesitation during his lifetime. His mere presence instilled fear, prompting criminals to voluntarily surrender at the mere sight of him. Yet, a certain incident ultimately led to his death.

Following his demise, Baek Nam Goo visited the photo studio that claimed they would take the last moments of the living. However, driven by an unwavering determination to apprehend a particular criminal, he chooses to remain at the studio as its newest employee.

Among the studio’s staff—including owner and photographer Seo Ki Joo (Joo Won) and Assistant Manager Ko (Yoo In Soo)—Baek Nam Goo is the eldest in terms of earthly years, yet, as a ghost, he is merely 31 days old. Consequently, he assumes the role of a rookie tasked with handling minor duties assigned by Assistant Manager Ko, who is in his third year at the studio. Nevertheless, Baek Nam Goo quickly evolves into a crucial figure in the studio due to his ability to swiftly handle challenging guests, a skill cultivated during his previous life.

In addition, hidden beneath his rugged exterior is a tender side and an unparalleled devotion to his wife. Although typically reserved, he becomes remarkably talkative whenever discussing his beloved wife. Driven by his unwavering love for his wife, he continues to commute between work and home even as a ghost.

20240222104403_Midnight-Studio-poster.jpJoo Won, Kwon Nara, Yoo In Soo, And Eum Moon Suk Boast Perfect Teamwork As Crew Of The “Midnight Studio”

Feb 22, 2024
by M. Lim

Ahead of its premiere, ENA’s “Midnight Studio” has unveiled a captivating new poster featuring its eclectic crew!

Yoo In Soo stars as Assistant Manager Ko, who is in his third year of working at Midnight Studio, while Eum Moon Suk plays ex-detective Baek Nam Goo, who is now a rookie employee at the studio.

The newly unveiled poster showcases the complete photo studio crew amidst the enigmatic ambiance of their unique workplace—a special photo studio that captures the final pictures of the deceased. Seo Ki Joo, the owner of the studio, is the seventh-generation photographer of this ghost-specializing photography studio passed down through his family for generations. The camera he wields is no ordinary device; only he can operate it, enabling him to snap photographs to help his guests ascend to heaven.

Assistant Manager Ko and Baek Nam Goo serve as pillars of the studio. Already in his third year, Assistant Manager Ko is a passionate employee who listens attentively to the grievances of the guests and tries to fulfill their every wish. Meanwhile, Baek Nam Goo, a promising rookie, stands ever-ready to tend to the more challenging guests with his past experience as a detective. The fact that they are ghosts also adds a twist to the drama, symbolized by their fading presence in the poster. They first came to the photo studio as guests upon their deaths but ended up choosing to remain for their own compelling reasons.

Adding to the mix, lawyer Han Bom completes the quartet, bringing a unique dynamic to the crew. Besides Seo Ki Joo, she is the only human to ever set foot in the photo studio. With a strong sense of duty and justice from her time as a prosecutor, Han Bom becomes a unique lawyer specializing in ghost clients and helps out at the photo studio.

The production team commented, “The chemistry between Joo Won, Kwon Nara, Yoo In Soo, and Eum Moon Suk, who gather as the crew of the photo studio that only operates at night, was perfect even in real life. The filming set was always filled with the enthusiasm of these four actors to create the best scenes. This fantastic chemistry will be felt 200 percent in the broadcast as well.”

“Midnight Studio” is set to premiere on March 11 at 10 p.m. KST.

Snapshots for spirits at the Midnight Photo Studio

by solstices

More promotional material has been published for ENA’s upcoming fantasy Midnight Photo Studio, featuring the offbeat operations of this bizarre business. Starring Joo-won (Stealer: The Treasure Keeper) and Kwon Nara (Bulgasal: Immortal Souls), the drama promises lots of laughter with a dash of romance and healing.

Along the border between life and death, there exists a place that only allows the truly desperate onto its premises. As the sun sets and the witching hour approaches, the mysterious establishment opens its doors… to jaunty music and a long line of impatient clients.

Behold the titular photo studio, where the seventh-generation owner Seo Ki-joo (Joo-won) offers portrait photography services to a peculiarly unique clientele. Blessed — or cursed — with the ability to see and interact with ghosts as if they have corporeal forms, Ki-joo lives out his mortal days behind the camera for those who cannot cross over into the afterlife.

Despite his twenty years of experience, though, Ki-joo isn’t above jumping in fright at the unexpected sight of a whole crowd of ghosts. The amusing scene has the lawyer Han Bom (Kwon Nara) stifling a snicker, but her confidence doesn’t last long. A grotesquely bloody apparition has her fleeing and screaming for Ki-joo, whose surly scowl immediately stops any troublemaking terrors in their tracks.

Acting as a makeshift counselor for ghosts with grievances may have worn Ki-joo down to a prickly temperament, but luckily for him, he’s not alone in his business endeavor. Serving their otherworldly guests in chronological order of expiration, the affable assistant manager Go Sung-ho — played by Yoo In-soo (Death’s Game) — greets the studio’s latest visitors with a bespectacled smile and a sales pitch up his sleeve.

Working alongside him is the perennially-tired office gopher Baek Nam-gu, played by Eum Moon-seok (Good Job). As a former Marine and violent crimes detective, Nam-gu’s problem-solving skills come in handy when dealing with particularly pesky customers. Together, the three of them are ready to provide top-tier service, inclusive of rose petals, fist bumps, and an enthusiastic thumbs up from business buddy Bom. In addition to the stills of our plucky photographer, the drama has also released shots of his poltergeist partners, gearing up for the studio’s grand opening next month.

Helmed by PD Song Hyun-wook (The Golden Spoon) with scripts penned by Kim Yi-rang (Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency), Midnight Photo Studio will raise its shutters on March 11.

When asked what the atmosphere on set was like, Joo Won replied, “I like this drama because it contains comedy, cuteness, and sadness. It was the same on set. I feel like this is the first time in 10 years that I’ve been [filming] in an atmosphere this heartwarming. In particular, the four of us [with Kwon Nara, Yoo In Soo, and Eum Moon Suk] eat together and make video calls every day. Look, Eum Moon Suk is calling me now, you see? (laughs)”

When asked about his decision to enroll in graduate school, Joo Won said, “I had a dream of becoming a professor. I couldn’t graduate because I was busy filming. Still, I want to try to someday.” He added, “Since I majored in theater and film in high school and university, I wanted to share what I felt with others.”

Kwon Nara’s interview kicked off with the lighthearted question, “Did you know that when you search for ‘Midnight Studio’ (pronounced the same as ‘Sexy/Naughty Studio’ in Korean), you are asked to verify that you are an adult?” Kwon Nara laughed to the question and replied, “When I told people that the title is ‘Midnight Studio,’ everyone seemed very amused. When I explain to them that it means a photo studio that open only at night, they go, ‘Oh, is that what it means?'”

The Midnight Studio dropped stills featuring Joo Won and Kwon Na Ra.

The Midnight Studio unfolds the story of Seo Ki Joo, a photographer who runs a photo studio only for ghosts, and Han Bom, a passionate lawyer who ends up working with him.

Seo Ki Joo (Joo Won) is a photographer who was born with the fate of taking pictures of the dead. He has been operating the photography studio for 20 years, and his mission is to help the guests ascend safely by taking their final photos with a magical camera.

As a result, Ki Joo has had more dead people than living ones in his life and has always been lonely. Moreover, he has been cursed with a fate that does not allow him to live past the age of thirty-five.

As his 35th birthday approaches, his life becomes increasingly dangerous as he is frequently exposed to threats from ghosts.

Such a lonely photographer becomes entangled with Han Bom (Kwon Na Ra), a lawyer struggling to make ends meet.

Bom accidentally steps into Seo Ki Joo's photography studio, which is only allowed for the dead.

Thus, she comes to Ki Joo like a beam of hope and disrupts not only his life but also his destiny. This is due to Bom's unique ability to create a "safe zone", which neutralizes the power of ghosts. With Bom appearing as a savior to save Ki Joo, who almost died because of a ghost, hope begins to sprout for the cursed photographer.

Yoo In Soo and Eum Moon Suk play Joo Won's employees in The Midnight Studio.

The Midnight Studio dropped stills featuring Yoo In Soo (The Uncanny Counter Season 2: Counter Punch, The Good Bad Mother, Alchemy of Souls, All of Us Are Dead) and Eum Moon Suk (Backstreet RookieThe Fiery PriestThe Roundup).

Yoo In Soo plays the role of Go Dae Ri, and Eum Moon Suk plays Baek Nam Gu. These two, employees at Seo Ki Joo's ghost photo studio, bear crucial responsibilities and are vastly different from each other when one observes them closely.

Go Dae Ri has been working at the photo studio for three years. During his lifetime, he worked so hard that he died from exhaustion. After coming to the photo studio, he approaches his duties with the same vigor and dedication. He diligently cleans and manages the studio every day, patiently listens to the grievances of visitors, and fulfills any requests to ease their minds, even without being asked.

So whenever Ki Joo, who prioritizes work-life balance, tries to escape, Go Dae Ri always has a word or two to say. He also responds to his boss's criticism with a cheerful and cheeky attitude, making him an expert at getting under Ki Joo's skin.

On the other hand, Baek Nam Gu is a newbie who joined the photo studio a month ago. Alongside guard duty and handling guests, he also handles minor tasks assigned by Seo Ki Joo. Despite being a newbie, the ironic fact is that he's the oldest among them.

Baek Nam Gu's strong presence, taciturn nature, and history as a detective known for his relentlessness in catching the gangsters overwhelm those around him. Even Go Dae Ri, who can seem fearless in front of his boss, respectfully addresses Baek Nam Gu as Mr. Baek due to his commanding presence.

Go Dae Ri, who has worked at the photo studio for three years, naturally expects senior treatment. But Baek Nam Gu, with his intimidating aura, doesn't fit the mold of a docile newbie.

But, despite their striking differences, the common thing between these two is that they still have work left to do in this world.

Go Dae Ri, who had been putting off everything in pursuit of his goal to become a manager, died of exhaustion just before his promotion. Feeling unfairly robbed of experiencing many things, he is currently fulfilling his bucket list of 162 goals and striving to make his wishes come true.

Whereas, Baek Nam Gu continues to linger around his wife even after his death.

Actor Yoo In Soo stated, "It will be fun to watch how two very different characters become friends with the common goal of helping the visitors relieve their grievances."

Eum Moon Suk said, "Since Baek Nam Gu has telekinesis and Go Dae Ri has the ability to possess, it will be fun to watch how the duo use each other's powers to solve the customers' cases."

The Midnight Studio will premiere on March 11. The K-drama will be available to stream on Viki.

Yoo In Soo and Eum Moon Suk form an unlikely duo in ENA’s upcoming drama “The Midnight Studio”!

“The Midnight Studio” tells the thrilling yet mysterious story about a prickly photographer Seo Ki Joo (Joo Won), who runs a professional photo studio that only exists for the deceased, and passionate lawyer Han Bom (Kwon Nara) as they cross life and death with the night guests.

Yoo In Soo and Eum Moon Suk take on the role of ghost employees at the studio. Yoo In Soo stars as Assistant Manager Ko, who is in his third year of working at the Midnight Studio, while Eum Moon Suk plays ex-detective Baek Nam Goo, who is now a rookie employee at the studio.

Despite their contrasting personas, these crucial figures within the studio forge an endearing friendship, infusing the drama with an extra layer of intrigue and amusement.

Assistant Manager Ko, who passed away from overwork in his lifetime, also approaches his duties at the studio with unwavering passion. Without prompting, he diligently cleans the studio daily, lends a sympathetic ear to guests’ stories, and strives to fulfill their every request. Consequently, he often finds himself scolding Seo Ki Joo whenever the latter seeks to leave work early, as Ki Joo prioritizes maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Despite facing Ki Joo’s reprimands, Assistant Manager Ko maintains a cheerful and unapologetic attitude, never failing to irk Ki Joo.

Baek Nam Goo is a newbie at the Midnight Studio who just joined the studio a month ago. Alongside handling rude guests, he takes care of the petty tasks assigned by Assistant Manager Ko. Despite being a rookie, his ironic status as the oldest member adds an interesting dynamic to his relationship with Assistant Manager Ko. Despite being a newcomer, his past as a former detective lends him an air of charisma and authority. Even Assistant Manager Ko, notorious for his brazen retorts to Ki Joo, reverently addresses him as “Mr. Baek,” acknowledging his commanding presence.

Opting to stay as ghost employees at the studio due to unresolved matters on earth, Assistant Manager Ko is determined to tick off all 162 items on his bucket list, while Baek Nam Goo, a devoted husband, harbors a hidden story that makes it hard for him to leave his wife even after his death.

Yoo In Soo commented, “I believe it would be fun if you focus on watching the process of these two contrasting characters becoming friends and bonding over their shared mission of fulfilling the guests’ desires.” Eum Moon Suk added, “Baek Nam Goo possesses telekinetic abilities, whereas Assistant Manager Ko can inhabit the bodies of the living, so it’ll be intriguing to see them solve guests’ cases by using their abilities.” Both actors also rated their chemistry a perfect 10, heightening anticipation for their interactions in the series.
