Wonderful World: Episodes 5-6

by solstices

Wounded by a devastating secret, our heroine struggles to reconcile the harsh reality with the lies she’d been living. Her resilience may allow her to regain her bearings, but the pursuit of the truth comes at a price — and she’s not the only one with skeletons in her closet.

EPISODES 5-6

Confronted with her husband’s infidelity before her very eyes, Soo-hyun sends Soo-ho an ominous text that she knows who he’s with, but she doesn’t elaborate further. We see that no hanky-panky seems to have occurred, but Soo-hyun remains unaware of what exactly went on behind those closed doors.

That night, Soo-hyun immediately pays Hye-geum a visit — and I love that she first checks to make sure that Hye-geum’s son is asleep — to confront her about the affair. Hye-geum admits that she’d given in to impulse, wanting to comfort Soo-ho in his grief, and that it’d only happened once during Soo-hyun and Soo-ho’s separation. The hotel meeting was only to confirm that she wasn’t the photo sender, Hye-geum claims, but Soo-hyun remains adamant that she never wants to see her again.

A distraught Soo-hyun spends the night at her mother’s house, where she resolutely rips up Mom’s copy of the affair photo. Still, she can’t get it off her mind. When she pieces it back together, she notices printed text on the back that hadn’t been on the first copy. It’s a website url that leads to a news article about a hit-and-run, and she contacts the reporter, who gives her the name of the accident victim.

With help from Soo-jin’s tracing of Min-hyuk’s criminal records, Seon-yul finds the elusive boy at an illegal gambling den. A timely police crackdown gets Min-hyuk away from the owner’s fisticuffs, but in the process of escaping, Min-hyuk gets impaled by a rusty nail. It goes right through his abdomen, and Seon-yul winds up driving him to the hospital.

That hospital is the exact one Soo-hyun has tracked the accident victim to, and when she enters the ward, she’s distraught to recognize her as the wife of the driver that killed Geon-woo. Before she can recover from her shock, she’s greeted with an unexpected visitor — Seon-yul. Then the patient suddenly flatlines, and Seon-yul’s anguished panic reveals far more than he intends to let on.

Elsewhere, Soo-ho apologizes fervently to Mom, tears of guilt and regret spilling from his eyes. He should have been the one behind the wheel and the one who went to prison, not Soo-hyun. Yet, when faced with nothing but an empty house, the grief and loneliness had made him lose his mind. Overhearing Soo-ho’s heartfelt spiel from just around the corner, Soo-hyun finally comes to a decision.

The next day, she returns to her stunned spouse. Having pulled herself together, Soo-hyun candidly admits that what hurt her most hadn’t been the affair itself, but Soo-ho’s deceit. She won’t be able to erase this betrayal easily, but she’s decided that she wants to try moving past it. Touched, and deeply grateful, Soo-ho welcomes her back home.

As for our other protagonist, there isn’t a moment’s respite for him. Thugs have tracked down the debt-ridden Min-hyuk, Seon-yul bursts into the hospital ward just in time to stop them from forging a physical rights waiver form with the unconscious Min-hyuk’s thumbprint. Needless to say, a fight ensues, and once again, Soo-hyun witnesses it. When she concernedly chastises him to take better care of himself, Seon-yul snaps that she ought to mind her own business. “What right do you have to give me advice?” Seon-yul snarls. “You’re a murderer.”

The next day, Soo-hyun visits him at the junkyard with a container of homemade kimchi as an apology. Having had some time to cool off, Seon-yul reciprocates, expressing remorse for his harsh words. When Soo-hyun asks about his distraught reaction to the accident victim, he explains that the patient’s son had also been in the hospital that day, and he hadn’t wanted to let a kindred spirit lose his mother too.

Cha Eun-woo Shows Massive Acting Improvement in K-drama “Wonderful World”?

Once criticized for “stiff-acting”, Cha Eun-woo is said to have improved by leaps and bounds with his role in “Wonderful World”.

tegami16 hours agoLast Updated: March 20, 2024
2 minutes read

While not necessarily famous in the international market, MBC’s weekend drama “Wonderful World” still maintains strong ratings within Korea. In this K-drama, Cha Eun-woo assumes the role of Kwon Seon-yul, a handsome young man with a mysterious background, choosing to live a difficult life. With this role, he demonstrates remarkable progress in his acting and attracts a lot of attention.

Initially, audiences were concerned about a possible “love-line” between Cha Eun-woo’s character and the female lead played by Kim Nam-joo, given the 26-year age gap between the two actors. However, at present, all concerns have disappeared, and audiences are truly surprised by the sudden turn that Seon-yul’s character brings.

The mysteries of Seon-yul’s identity are revealed in each episode, and audiences were shocked to learn that Seon-yul is the son of a criminal who fled after killing a boy with his car. This boy turns out to be none other than the son of the female lead, Soo-hyun (Kim Nam-joo). In the past, Soo-hyun, out of revenge for her son, impulsively hit and killed Seon-yul’s father and went to jail.

According to current developments, Seon-yul is indeed the antagonist of the drama, and his intentions in approaching Soo-hyun may not be good. This revelation has left the audience extremely surprised and excited as this may be the first villainous role in Cha Eun-woo’s career. Additionally, both before and after the revelation of his character’s identity, Cha Eun-woo has done a great job in pulling off his role.

Throughout the released episodes, audiences are intrigued by the scenes where Cha Eun-woo’s character suppresses his emotions, making him mysterious and captivating. He also successfully portrays the deep sadness of the character, especially in the scenes facing his mother lying in bed, as he tries to hold on to his only remaining family member.

Regarding Cha Eun-woo’s performance in “Wonderful World”, media site Atstar1 wrote, “Cha Eun-woo has shown his unexpected charm through dark, heavy, and very subtle acting.” The site also quoted a series of positive comments from audiences about Cha Eun-woo’s unbelievable acting improvement, especially after he was criticized for stiff-acting in the past.

Below are some of these comments:

  • His eye-acting is truly amazing. He seems like he’d be really good at playing a cold villain or something similar. It is intriguing to watch him
  • Cha Eun-woo is perfect for this role. The casting is just excellent
  • Anyway, I’m really surprised by Cha Eun-woo’s acting. He has improved a lot.
  • Wow, his acting skills have improved tremendously
  • I’m really satisfied with Cha Eun-woo’s acting improvement this time. Hope he works even harder and succeeds more in the future!!
  • Cha Eun-woo has finally found a role that suits him.
  • It’s really surprising to see Cha Eun-woo’s impressive eye-acting for the first time.

I came to watch this drama because of Kim Nam Joo.  I kindda loathe dramas with revenge plot especially after just watching the stupid 'My Happy Ending".  But this drama seems quiet interesting after episode5. I hope it stays that way

Wonderful World: Episodes 7-8

by solstices

Following a case of mistaken identity, our heroine pieces together the misleading puzzle pieces to reveal a scheme that had been hiding in plain sight. She’s quick on the uptake, but our antihero has been arranging his chess pieces for years, and he’s a ruthless player.

EPISODES 7-8

Now that we’ve learned the truth about Seon-yul, the intricacies of his plan come to light, and it’s been a long time in the making. His stint volunteering at the prison had been a ploy to get information about Soo-hyun, which is how he found out about Hyung-ja and began preparing to assume Min-hyuk’s identity. In the present, he finally gives Hyung-ja’s notebook to Min-hyuk — who has a sprawling burn scar on his back. Incensed by the reminder of his past, Min-hyuk demands to know who Seon-yul is, and all Seon-yul says is that Min-hyuk’s like him.

Needless to say, the darkroom reveal had been a misdirect. When Seon-yul claimed the blackmailer was someone skilled with cameras, he’d really been talking about himself, having picked up those skills while working for Joon. Still, for all that he’s exploited Min-hyuk’s identity, he doesn’t simply leave him out to dry. Using his payment from Joon’s aide, Seon-yul pays off Min-hyuk’s hefty debts and even buys him a box of rice.

Having realized that the details of Seon-yul’s story don’t add up, Soo-hyun retraces her investigative steps, and they lead her to a very different conclusion. For one, the arson victim’s parents have been laid to rest at a columbarium, not the grave that Seon-yul had supposedly been paying respects to when they first met. Soo-hyun connects the dots quickly — we love a smart heroine — and confirms her theory with evidence that Soo-ho used to be in med school and keeps a photo of the accident victim in his locket necklace.

Soo-hyun asks Seon-yul to meet her at a cafe, where they talk in circles about the driver’s son, both acting unaware while clearly knowing Seon-yul’s true identity is no longer a secret. Resolutely meeting his gaze, Soo-hyun asserts that she can bear any torment as long as her family is kept out of the line of fire, but Seon-yul counters that the boy had his family destroyed. What once brought them together in empathy now drives them apart — neither can see past their own pain.

Now that she’s opened her eyes to the extent of Seon-yul’s scheming, Soo-hyun pulls herself together with a renewed resolve. Not only does she dedicate more effort towards showing up for her family, but she also continues forging ahead with her investigation into Seon-yul’s background.

Unexpectedly, she discovers a connection with Joon, whose foundation has been covering the hospital bills for Seon-yul’s mother. Then, as she returns home, she happens to witness Joon entering Hye-geum’s house. We see them embrace tenderly, only for the moment to turn sinister when Joon coldly tells Hye-geum to leave town temporarily with her son — he won’t hesitate to eliminate them if they get in his way.

In another series of coincidences, Soo-hyun finds out that Hye-geum had been overseas on the day of the affair photo. When confronted, Hye-geum admits the truth — Soo-ho had approached her to convince her into exposing Joon, since he’d found out she was laundering money for him through her art gallery. He’d promised to protect her from the inevitable fallout, and Hye-geum taking the blame for the affair had been his way of protecting Soo-hyun, too. Supposedly, Soo-hyun “must never find out who the other woman is.”

Lim Se-mi, did you act this well? Received favorable reviews for solid acting skills ('Wonderful World')

UEMUR7ATL7J6DC7NUI2YJK2D3Q.jpg

'Wonderful World' Lim Se-mi showed a guilty face. In MBC's Friday-Saturday drama 'Wonderful World' (written by Kim Ji-eun, directed by Lee Seung-young and Jeong Sang-hee), Han Yu-ri (Lim Se-mi) was depicted as being consumed by guilt toward Eun Soo-hyeon (Kim Nam-joo).

Han Yu-ri was distressed that her Eun Soo-hyeon found out about her past relationship with Kang Su-ho (Kim Kang-woo). Han Yu-ri, who faced Eun Soo-hyun, barely tried to get her mind together, but she could only shed painful tears at Eun Soo-hyun's cold words that she could not forgive. Next, Han Yu-ri faced Eun Soo-hyeon again, ready to let go of everything. When Eun Soo-hyeon says that she will endure everything and not abandon Yuri, not for Han Yu-ri's sake but for her mother Go-eun (Won Mi-kyung), the sight of Han Yu-ri collapsing with guilt breaks the hearts of viewers.

Moreover, another crisis befell her Han Yu-ri. Even Go Eun learns of Han Yu-ri and Kang Soo-ho's secret, and the situation heads towards catastrophe. As Go Eun expressed her betrayal and disappointment in Han Yu-ri, whom she trusted more than anyone else, Han Yu-ri shed tears of regret. She clung to her knees in front of her Go-eun, who turned away from her with a cold expression she had never seen before, but the crack in her had become so deep that it could not be repaired. The sight of Han Yu-ri in panic added to the sadness of the fact that she had left an indelible wound on Eun Soo-hyun and Go-eun because of a momentary mistake.
