Character descriptions

Woo Hee (Jeon Jong Seo) is a queen of Goguryeo who marries one of her husband’s younger siblings after the king dies in order to protect her family and tribe. She has outstanding abilities to analyze problems and come up with strategies, and she is an active player who steps out of her palace to find a new king herself and fight against the opposing forces who are aiming for the throne.

 

Eulpa So (Kim Mu Yeol) is a military general and strategist of Goguryeo who rises to the position of Generalissimo. Despite being from a local family with a weak lineage, Eulpa So possesses exceptional abilities. While carrying out national affairs under the trust of King Go Nam Mu, he harbors unresolved desires. Kim Mu Yeol's portrayal of the complex inner conflict of Eulpaso, torn between loyalty to the king and ambition for power, garners attention.

 

King Go Nam Mu (Ji Chang Wook) the husband of Queen Woo Hee and the king of Goguryeo, known for his outstanding military tactics that defeated 30,000 soldiers of the Han Empire with an army of 5,000. He is a perfect king, possessing the dignity of a military leader and benevolence, but his absence brings turmoil to the palace. Ji Chang Wook's performance is awaited as he deeply portrays the fate of King Go Nam Mu, who becomes a spark of conflict in the revered city.

 

Woo Soon (Jung Yoo Mi ), is the older sister of Woo Hee. Despite being from the northern region, which has produced royal queens for generations, Woo Soon loses the position of queen to her sister Woo Hee with a single choice. She becomes her sister's maid and enters the palace to reclaim her destiny. The transformation of Jung Yoo Mi, who will complete the struggles of Woo Soon in her quest to regain the stolen position of queen, adds to the anticipation. 

 

Crown prince Go Bal Gi (Lee Soo Hyuk) is a contender for the Goguryeo throne. Go Bal Gi, who has malicious and treacherous tendencies, begins to reveal his suppressed desires when an opportunity to claim the throne arises. Jeon Jong Seo will possibly star in her first-ever historical K-drama!

Several media outlets reported on March 30 that Jeon Jong Seo has been picked as the main lead of the upcoming K-drama The Queen of Wu (working title). 

Jeon Jong Seo's agency Andmarq shared their side regarding the casting news. According to the agency, "it is true that Jeon Jong Seo got the offer to lead the new K-drama The Queen of Wu. The offer is still under review and nothing has been decided yet."

The Queen of Wu will be a historical K-drama that will revolve around Wu, the first queen of two kings in Korean history. According to reports, the series will be a historical action K-drama. 

Broadcast date and other details about the K-drama are yet to be revealed. 

 

 

If Jeon Jong Seo confirms her casting, this will be her first ever historical K-drama since her debut. She made her acting debut in 2018 through the film Burning. After starring in the movies, several opportunities were given to her and she has starred in multiple works ever since. 

Aside from the Queen of Wu, Jeon Jong Seo is also set to lead the upcoming romantic comedy K-drama Wedding Impossible with Moon Sang Min, Kim Do Wan, and Bae Yoon Kyung. She will possibly join Bargain Season 2 if it becomes officially confirmed. Jeon Jong Seo will also join the upcoming movie Ballerina with Kim Ji Hoon and Park Yoo Rim.

On March 30, it was reported that the actress has been cast for the upcoming historical drama “Queen Woo” (literal title).

In response to the report, a source from Jeon Jong Seo’s agency ANDMARQ commented, “She received an offer and is reviewing [the offer]. It is not confirmed.”

According to an exclusive report from JTBC, Money Heist star Jeon Jong Seo has been cast for a role in the upcoming historical Korean drama Queen Woo (literal title).

In response to the report, a representative of Jeon Jong Seo’s agency ANDMARQ said, 

“We have received the proposal and are considering the appearance of the new drama Queen Woo. It is not confirmed yet.”

The upcoming Queen Woo Korean drama is a chase and action historical drama. It tells the story of the first queen in the history of Korea to serve as a queen twice with two different kings. 

This drama will have eight episodes and will be produced by ANDMARQ Studio and Compass Pictures. Furthermore, director Jung Se Gyo and writer Lee Byung Hak will join forces to create a historical drama based on a historical figure. 

Director Jung Se Gyo was the man behind the Korean drama Oh! My Gran. Meanwhile, writer Lee Byung Hak is the person behind The Royal Tailor. 

 

Actress Jeon Jong Seo made her striking debut with the Korean movie Burning in 2018, where she co-starred with Yoo In Ah and Steven Yeun. Later, she took the role of a serial killer in the movie Call (2020) and won the 57th Baeksang Art Awards for the Best Actress Award in the Film category.

 

Further, she made her first Hollywood fantasy thriller movie in 2021 with Mona Lisa and Blood Moon. In the same year, she also starred in Nothing Serious. In addition, her upcoming movie Ballerina will premiere on Netflix sometime this year.

Meanwhile, the actress is famous for her dramas, like  Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area (Part 1 and Part 2) and Bargain in the same year. Her next drama projects are Bargain Season 2, Wedding Impossible, and possibly Queen Woo.

Paramount+ Chooses its Next K-dramas: "A Very Lucky Day" and "The Queen 'Woo'"

TVING announced on the April 20 that its original series, A Very Lucky Day and The Queen 'Woo', are chosen to be released on Paramount+. It is part of the strategic partnership between TVING and Paramount+, following Yonder, which was released globally through Paramount + on April 11, and Bargain, which is scheduled to be released.

The K-dramas will be released in about 27 countries serviced by Paramount+ including the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, Brazil, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and France.

A Very Lucky Day casts the veteran actors Lee Sung Min, Yoo Yeon Seok, and Lee Jung Eun. 

 

It is a thriller series in which an ordinary taxi driver Oh Taek (Lee Sung Min) picks up a  customer (Yoo Yeon Seok) who offers a lot of money for long-distance trips. But later Oh Taek realizes that his customer is actually a serial killer. 

Considering the gripping storyline and an all-star cast, expectations are high for the upcoming TVING original series. The K-drama is scheduled to be released in the second half of the year.

The Queen 'Woo' is TVING's first historical drama series, which tells the story of Queen Woo, who ascends the throne for the second time following the death of the king by going against the princes and the five tribes greedy for power. 

Following her award-winning drama Bargain, actress Jeon Jong Seo will now be seen in the leading role of Queen Woo in the upcoming historical series, which is scheduled to be released in 2024.

On June 23, media outlet News1 reported that Song Jae Rim will be the main lead of the upcoming historical series The Queen 'Woo' together with Jeon Jong Seo.

If Song Jae Rim confirms his casting, this will be his second upcoming K-drama. The actor is also set to star in the new K-drama titled Bloody Romance with Nam Gyu Ri, Kim Min Seok, Choi Hye Jin, Steven Noh, and Jung Jin Woo.

Media outlets shared on June 30th that Jung Yoo Mi has been picked to be added to the main leads of the upcoming K-drama The Queen 'Woo'. 

Jung Yoo Mi's side responded to the casting reports and stated that the actress is positively considering her appearance in the upcoming historical K-drama. 

If Jung Yoo Mi officially confirms her casting, this will be her return to the K-drama scene after four years. She last starred in the 2019 K-drama Partners for Justice Season 2. 

This year, the actress made a special appearance in the series Strangers Again.

This will also be Jung Yoo Mi's comeback to historical K-dramas after eight years. She last appeared in a historical genre in 2015 through the K-drama Six Flying Dragons.

“Queen Woo” is a chase action sageuk (historical drama) that follows the story of Queen Woo who becomes the target of five tribes seeking to gain authority and princes who are after the throne following the sudden passing of the King. Queen Woo struggles to find a new King within 24 hours.

As previously confirmed, Jeon Jong Seo will take on the role of Woo Hee, a queen of Goguryeo who has both beauty and brains but was born from a humble family and thus possesses no authority. The only person she can rely on in the desolate palace is King Go Nam Moo, but her husband experiences a desperate crisis, putting both her authority as well as her family’s authority in danger.

Kim Moo Yeol will play Goguryeo’s prime minister and the generalissimo of the King’s military Eul Pa So who overcame his weakness and climbed the ranks to become the generalissimo. With King Go Nam Moo’s trust, Eul Pa So is also in charge of state affairs, and he is a figure who contemplates between his loyalty to the King and his desire for power.

Ji Chang Wook will play Woo Hee’s husband and King Gogukcheon of Goguryeo. Go Nam Moo is a King of Goguryeo who had the brains to lead 5,000 soldiers to victory against 30,000 soldiers of Han Dynasty. He is a perfect King with both dignity and kindness, but his absence soon brings blood to the palace.

Jung Yoo Mi plays Woo Hee’s sister Woo Soon, who is known for her great beauty even in the North where Queens have been produced for generations. Despite being from the northern region, which has produced royal queens for generations, Woo Soon loses the position of queen to her sister Woo Hee with a single choice. She becomes her sister's maid and enters the palace to reclaim her destiny. The transformation of Jung Yoo Mi, who will complete the struggles of Woo Soon in her quest to regain the stolen position of queen, adds to the anticipation.

Lee Soo Hyuk will portray crown prince Go Bal Gi, a contender for the Goguryeo throne. Park Ji Hwan's portrayal of the confident Mu Gol on a formidable tank at lightning speed promises to enhance the excitement with spectacular action scenes.

Jeon Jong-seo is Ji Chang-wook’s Queen Woo

A new sageuk is in the works over at TVING about an unusual succession story and the woman at the center of it all. Taking place in Goguryeo, eponymous Queen Woo — played by Jeon Jong-seo (Money Heist: Korea) — loses her husband and gets caught in the middle of a fierce power struggle amongst the princes and the five tribes. She only has twenty-four hours to create a new king or else fall from grace, putting herself as well as her family in danger.

Queen Woo Hee has both brains and beauty, but due to her lowly background, she holds no power as the king’s wife. The only person she can trust within these desolate palace walls is her husband, King Go Nam-mu, played by Ji Chang-wook (If You Wish Upon Me). Posthumously known as King Gogukcheon of Goguryeo, Go Nam-mu is deemed the perfect ruler who possesses both dignity and benevolence fitting of his position. However, a crisis befalls him, and his absence brings bloodshed to the kingdom.

 

Kim Mu-yeol (Trolley) plays Prime Minister Eul Pa-so who, despite his parentage, rises in rank and becomes the king’s trusted advisor. Though he achieved many things, his heart still desires more, and he finds himself struggling between his loyalty to the king and his thirst for power.

Playing the queen’s sister Woo Sun is Jung Yumi (Celebrity). Though considered the most beautiful, she loses the position of queen to her younger sister, and enters the court to serve her while trying to reclaim her destiny.

Stepping into the antagonist role is Lee Soo-hyuk (Tomorrow) as Prince Go Bal-ki. Violent and vulgar, Go Bal-ki’s ambitions win over his fears of his older brother, and he vies for the throne as a candidate.

In contrast, Park Ji-hwan (Family) plays the head of the royal guard Mu Gol. A master of all weapons, Mu Gol served in the war alongside Go Nam-mu and swears fealty to the king.

Based on historical figures, the era of Queen Woo depicts a rare case of levirate marriage, the practice where a widow marries her deceased husband’s younger brother to preserve the family lineage. It will be interesting to see how the show will handle this premise and portray Queen Woo’s authority and independence.

Directed by Jung Se-gyo (Oh! My Gran) and written by Lee Byeong-hak, Queen Woo is slated to be released sometime next year on TVING.

I read about the real hystory of Queen Woo and other political figures. Kim Mu Yeol plays a grey character and I like it. Torn between loyalty and his own greed. 

Lee Soo hyuk plays another antagonist but Prince Balgi is an interesting character to play, a character with a tragic ending. A brother who wants the power and later regretting what he did to the family. Who needs fiction when we have real life drama? 

We know that King Gogukcheon will die and Queen Woo will marry Prince Yeonu (later king Sansang).

Queen Woo is also an interesting character. Independent, powerful but with her own issues (she did not have a child, an heir).  When she died Queen Woo wanted to be buried next to the second husband, so she must loved him more then the first one.

I wonder who will play Prince Yeonu. Maybe Song Jae Rim is still on talks and he will play the role. We`ll see.

Jung Jae Kwang to Join Jeon Jong Seo's First Historical K-Drama "Queen Woo"

Jung Jae Kwang has been confirmed to be joining the upcoming TVING historical K-drama Queen Woo.

On August 1st, it was officially confirmed that Jung Jae Kwang will be added to the cast of the upcoming K-drama and will play the role of the King's brother. 

This will be the first official K-drama of Jung Jae Kwang for 2024. This year, he starred in the K-drama My Perfect Stranger led by Kim Dong Wook, Jin Ki Joo, Seo Ji Hye, Lee Won Jung, Lee Ji Hyun, and Lee Kyu Hoe.

Jung Jae Kwang is also set to join the upcoming K-drama The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call with Joo Ji Hoon, Choo Young Woo, Yoon Gyung Ho, and Ha Young.

The rising actor will also join the upcoming movie Hopeless and will work alongside Song Joong Ki, Hong Xa Bin, BIBI, Park Bo Kyung, and Kim Jong Soo. 

 Queen Woo will be the first time that Jung Jae Kwang will star in a historical K-drama.

 

 

 

Queen Woo is a political melodrama that will feature the life and journey of Lady Woo, the first ever woman in history to become a queen twice. After the death of  King Gogukcheon, it has been announced that a new king should be hailed within 24 hours.

The upcoming K-drama will be led by Jeon Jong Seo, Kim Mu Yeol, Ji Chang Wook, Jung Yoo Mi, Lee Soo Hyuk, and Park Ji Hwan. 

Jung Jae Kwang has been given the role of Ko Gye Su. He is the youngest brother of Ji Chang Wook's character named Ko Nam Moo. He sincerely respects his older brother and is faithful to him. He is also known to be excellent in martial arts. 

The upcoming series will be the next work of director Jung Se Kyo (Oh! My Gran and Like Father, Like Son) and writer  Lee Byung Hak (The Royal Tailor). 

Queen Woo is set to premiere in 2024 through the OTT platform, TVING. The upcoming K-drama will have a total of 8 episodes.

Tving's original series 'Queen Wu' raises expectations by revealing the script reading scene where the actors' tight acting breath stood out.

 

TVing's original series 'Queen Wu' (director Jeong Se-gyo, screenwriter Lee Byung-hak, production Endmark Studio, Compass Pictures, CJ ENM Studios, provided TVING), which will be released for the first time in 2024, is a prince who seeks the throne due to the sudden death of the king. Jeon Bae-soo and Cho Han-cheol took on the role of Woo-so and Woo-do, the heads of the Woo family, the family of Queen Woo-hee, adding immersion to the struggle to keep power. Kim Do-yoon played the role of Song Woo, the closest aide to the king, and each line aroused curiosity.

 

Lee Hae-woo (played by Mochi) worked with Park Ji-hwan as a member of Wangdang, and the strong voices of Kang Young-seok (played by Ko Yeon-woo) and Jeong Jae-gwang (played by Go Gye-su), who were in charge of the Goguryeo princes, also caught attention. Song Jae-rim and Park Bo-kyung infused new tension into the chase with the fuel economy of the dethroned prince Go Pae-eui and Jol-bon's attempt to destroy the royal family of the Go family.

So, Song Jae Rin plays a support role as dethroned prince Go Pae-eui and Kang Young Seok will play the role of Go Yeon Woo, the future king and husband of Queen Woo, but he is not one the key players in this drama. OK. I am very excited to see Kim Mu Yeol playing a grey character. Eulpaso seems to be an interesting character.

TVING’s upcoming drama “Queen Woo” (literal title) has released photos from the drama’s first script reading!

“Queen Woo” is a chase action historical drama that follows the story of Queen Woo who becomes the target of five tribes seeking to gain authority and princes who are after the throne following the sudden passing of the King. Queen Woo struggles to find a new King within 24 hours.

In addition to director Jeong Se Kyo and scriptwriter Lee Byung Hak, members of the star-studded cast consisting of Jeon Jong Seo, Kim Moo Yeol, Ji Chang Wook, Jung Yu Mi, Lee Soo Hyuk, Park Ji Hwan, Jeon Bae Soo, Jo Han Chul, Kim Do Yoon, Lee Hae Woo, Kang Young Seok, Jung Jae Kwang, Song Jae Rim, Park Bo Kyung, and more gathered together to showcase explosive chemistry at the script reading for “Queen Woo.”

At the script reading, Jeon Jong Seo impressively embodied the character of Woo Hee, the queen of Goguryeo, who possesses beauty, intelligence, grace, and resilience and is not easily intimidated by threats from others. Kim Moo Yeol charismatically transformed into the resourceful Goguryeo’s prime minister and the generalissimo of the King’s military Eul Pa So who overcame his weakness and climbed the ranks to become the generalissimo.

Ji Chang Wook stars as Woo Hee’s husband and King Gogukcheon of Goguryeo, Go Nam Moo. Both Jung Yu Mi and Lee Soo Hyuk also raised the tension in the atmosphere with their exceptional acting as Woo Hee’s sister Woo Soon and Go Bal Ki, one of the three princes who is a candidate for succession to the throne of Goguryeo, respectively. Furthermore, Park Ji Hwan, who plays the role of Mu Gol, the head of the royal guard directly under the King, dominated the atmosphere with his commanding presence and skillfully brought the action scenes in the script to life with his voice alone.

 

Not to mention, the acting of the other talented cast members also impressed during the script reading. Jeon Bae Soo and Jo Han Chul play the roles of Woo So and Woo Do, the heads of Woo Hee’s family who struggle to protect their authority. Kim Do Yoon plays Song Woo, the King’s closest aide.

Lee Hae Woo stars as Mo Chi, a member of the royal guard along with Park Ji Wan, while Kang Young Seok and Jung Jae Kwang will play the role of Goguryeo princes. Song Jae Rim and Park Bo Kyung join the 24-hour chase as the dethroned prince Go Pae Ui and General Yeon Bi of Goguryeo who wants to destroy the royal family Go, respectively.

 

The production team of “Queen Woo” commented, “We felt that all the actors’ teamwork was already perfect from the first meeting. It was to the point that we were under the illusion that the characters in the script had come to life.
