larus
Life on Mars remake courts Jung Kyung-ho, Go Ah-sung, Park Sung-woong by girlfriday British television series Life on Mars is getting a Korean adaptation on OCN, and the potential cast is coming together nicely. Offers are currently out to Jung Kyung-ho (Smart Prison Living), Go Ah-sung (Radiant Office), and Park Sung-woong (Man to Man) to headline the time-slip crime thriller about a detective who travels back to the 1970s and has to solve crimes to return home. It sounds like Tunnel in reverse, but that’s not a bad thing—I’d watch Tunnel again forwards, backwards, or sideways. The BBC drama originally aired in 2006 and was subsequently adapted into American, Spanish, Russian, and Czech versions, which is hopefully a good sign that it’s a got a great story. It’s about a contemporary detective who gets hit by a car and wakes up in 1973, where he is still a police officer at the same exact precinct, but as a junior officer one rank lower. The original was more of a classic police procedural, focusing on different crimes in each episode, but the Korean adaptation will be about a serial murder case. Jung Kyung-ho is up to play the lead character (Sam Tyler in the original), a detective who struggles with the lack of forensic procedure and the old-school way of investigating in the ’70s. A major theme in the original show is this character’s confusion over whether he’s a time-traveler or a crazy person, though it remains to be seen if that ambiguity will carry over in the adaptation. more http://www.dramabeans.com/2018/02/life-on-mars-remake-courts-jung-kyung-ho-go-ah-sung-park-sung-woong/

It was crazy at that time how people obsessed over this show. I still have the dvd and watch it often: i will never get over Sam Tyler and Gene Hunt. LOM is forever on my top ten of the best shows ever made. I watched the British show when I heard about this drama but I still have to watch the last episode. I still dabate if I should watch it before the Korean adaptation will air or not. I watched British crime drama Luther as well. I liked both shows and in my opinion, the best of both shows are the characters. The cases were alright but what I like the most are the lead characters. They chose perfect actors for their stories. If the Korean version will have the right cast and will have a good writer who will be able to create the dynamic duo`s chemistry and adapt to Korean realities, it will be a good remake. I agree that Gene Hunt was the heart of the story. I needed often to give facepalms seing this character but no mather how "brute" he was, I couldn`t hate him at all. Maybe it was the actor`s charm/ talent. I know Park Sung Woong and I think he will do a good job in this role. Hope he will make this character his own, his own version of Gene Hunt. 3 hours ago, titania1000 said: I would die of happiness if Ahn Mi-Na joins the cast! I haven't seen her in anything since the masterpice that was A Man's Story and she was outstanding in it. I really hope she will get her chance to do her comeback in this one. It seams that she won`t be Annie. Actress Go Ah Sung received the offer. Maybe she will play another role. 31 minutes ago, titania1000 said: I never saw Go Ah Sung in anything so i hope she will do well. I never saw both actresses but I heard about Go Ah Sung. She is a good actress. 4 hours ago, triplem said: I have never watched the BBC series though . Not quite sure what to expect . But does the beginning remind you of Tunnel ? Like how he ended up in the past & how he needs to solve some case to go back to his time ? Is the bbc series like that too ? It is kind of similar. It is Tunnel in reverse like Dramabeans said. When the hero arrived in the past he was politically corect and the others were not. I read that this time the hero will go back to 1980 (and not in the 70s like in the British version). I wished to see more of the 80s in Tunnel so this time I have a chance. Plus, it is about a serial murder case also. In the BBC version, it was like a procedural crime show with a case in each episode. About the ending... I heard that US drama changed the original ending. I am also curious how this kdrama is going to end.

Tunnel saw CJH go to the future and grapple with the wholesale technological and social changes there. The original BBC series which was widely acclaimed is definitely worth watching. What I especially liked about it was the clash over values and different styles of policing. More importantly at least for this K remake actors like JKH and PSW would play off each other superbly which is really the main thing for them to get right. This dynamic would take on another layer of meaning especially in light of how JKH's prison officer often clashed with Officer Paeng's approach to being a prison warden in Prison Playbook.
