SukBin
Seeing this debate over PSH role focus and screen time... my view is...its definitely true that focus shifted from Yoo Hye Jung from story point of view and YHJ screen time got reduced too even though the story is supposed to be about her.... No one can deny that fact especially last few episodes.... it would have been better if writer could involve Hye Jung more into the narrative... But Its also true that it was very much needed from story telling point of view... to build the Male Protagonist character and its background... especially because viewers need to get to know Ji Hong's character and root for him along with Hye Jung and not only as OTP but as a character on his own.... that also provides much needed substance and depth to his feelings towards Hye Jung.... For example the way he put on a cold and indifferent mask because he was frustrated and angry that Hye Jung did not call him or comfort him or be by his side when he needed her makes him and his feelings more real, more human and more relatable.... provides the gravitas to his character...... This in turn elevates the story too.... Therefore for a show to be successful it needs people to care about more than the lead character but also for the show to not forget who the story is about... like in some shows the story got carried away from the lead character

According to Nielsen Korea, SBS drama "Doctors" rated 19.2% on July 12. Meanwhile, MBC "Monster - 2016" rated 11.2% while KBS "Beautiful Mind" rated 4.3%. Source : www.tvreport.co.kr/?c.../Hancinema --------------------------------------------- [HanCinema's Drama Review] "Doctors" Episode 8 2016/07/12 Having apparently realized that too much energy has been extended on social relationships lately, the production team dedicates much of this episode to actual doctoring. First there's the accidental crisis Hye-jeong and Soo-cheol created by failing to observe proper traffic safety precautions, then there's the more built-up storyline regarding the prospective Olympic archer. Both operations go relatively smoothly with no real hitches. "Doctors" is passable entertainment if that's all you're really looking for- just a bunch of actors putting on white coats and playing at being medical professionals. But the drama's lack of ambition to do much more than that is unavoidably off-putting. While the whole notion of wide awake hand surgery is interesting, it's the kind of general interest topic that's more well-suited to a magazine article or a public news report than it is to narrative storytelling. The only character that has anything approaching a genuinely interesting arc is, once again, Seo-woo. Unlike Hye-jeong, Seo-woo is capable of failure and making mistakes, and watching Seo-woo struggle with these decisions is fairly dramatic. It also feels more than a little unfair. I'm not a doctor, but given the information we were presented with, Seo-woo's medical opinion seemed perfectly reasonable, and in medicine like in any other field, dissenting opinions are important even when they're wrong. It frequently feels like Seo-woo is given the cold shoulder by other characters less due to personal failing and more due to how she has the temerity to contradict Hye-jeong. The implications of this are especially unfortunate because Ji-hong and Yoon-do are both gunning for a relationship with Hye-jeong. Not only is this technically sexual harassment, but it's also an effective legal argument for clouded judgment. If we ever get to a situation where Seo-woo is right and Hye-jeong is wrong, this favoritism could be used as a cudgel to attack them the same way they hit Seo-woo. Granted, Seo-woo has her own surreptitious romantic motive. But I'm inclined to view her actions more favorably because at least Seo-woo's romantic aspirations dovetail with trying to create a better working relationship between hospital administration and hospital staff. It just strikes me as massively unfair that after her role in Soo-cheol's accident, at the end of this episode Hye-jeong gets yet another carefree romantic adventure with Ji-hong while Seo-woo is left crying into her phone when a badly timed text appears to have been perfectly designed to mock and humiliate her. Review by William Schwartz "Doctors" is directed by Oh Choong-hwan, written by Ha Myeong-hee and features Kim Rae-won, Park Shin-hye, Yoon Gyoon-sang, Lee Seong-kyeong, Kim Yeong-ae and Jeong Hae-gyoon. suejee2014
one working day i go out n come back to see another fifty pages flying! our thread never sleeps!!! After kissing scene, did HY return home? i mean this is a kshow - have they gone that far? i mean in real life they might have but in shows they wd never show like that. so i am confused. reading ur comments abt HY's back hug some of u were guessing more to have happnd. the next day when JH saw HY, the way he melted was a sight indeed. he was literally holding himself. the way he controlled and told her to 'come' was itself sooo revealing. So what really happned? i am surprised but i am happy to see the beautiful progress of their relationship. but i miss JH's cheesiness. the way he used to blurt out cheesy lines was soooo endearing. i think we all fell in love with him for his cheesy lines delivered sincerely that it was never OTT. i know his dad's death would be affecting him, but i really hope he gets it back. becos there are many fans for his cheesy dialogues. And his eyes!! Gosh this man could act without even uttering a word!! His eyes tells a lot! the way he looks at HY and the way he looks at others - beautiful difference shown! i saw some discordant comments by one 'fan of PSH'. i wonder if this fan is genuinely her fan becos i have seen similar negative comments made by the same fan in other PSH drama threads! (no offence intended, just a doubt) But still taking what she said seriously, i think what she is trying to say is that she misses that early HY's badass attitude which showed PSH in a very different light. HY as a chr uses badass behaviour as a defense mechanism. she is actually an abandoned girl yearning for someone to love n care for her. when in her school days the two girls showed her care, she enjoyed herself as any normal girl. only wehn SW turned negative, she had to become hard again. Coming to PSH, HY as a chr is a huge growth to PSH. i have been her fan from Yours beautiful days. i have evn seen her tearjerker 'Tree of Heaven' just for her sake. Most of the shows showed her as vulnerable n nice girl. This show showed her as a girl who kicked at people. but again that chr is the heroine. they cant show her completely bad. But they have made her very bold. she is the one who never hides what she feels, never hesitates accept her mistakes and takes the lead in close scenes too. so it is a big step for PSH and she has done a good job. A TV show is a teamwork. if HY took the central stage in the initial stages that is becos story started with her. but a show has other chrs and being a love story, male lead perspective need to be told too. so at times it might look HY might take a backstage that doesnt mean she has become same old chr. we cant have her taking main role in every episode. that wd become too boring and idolatory! All said n done, doctors is a feel-good show which is about chrs who evolve to become better human beings. I think when we watch something with too much expectations, we wd get disappointed. and the irony is doctors team didnt evn hype that much abt their show. Neither PSH said i am doing a very different role from all my other shows. The team is givning good episodes with lovely chemistry from our OTP (which was unexpected). I think we shd enjoy that without nitpicking. i shd thank doctors team for reintroducing me to KRW. i have seen n liked him in My Little Bride ( i liked him more than d heroine) but had not seen any on his shows or movies. Now i will watch them.

amadeus
This is my point of view. I hope other fans would mind about this. I think in this drama, It's not who is the main lead character in the drama would always be the leading character always in each episode. but it's the story line that would make the show better. I think every character has their own time to show their side of story. I think we would be optimistic about the story . So far in my viewpoint, the story seems always interesting and fulfilling. We have to always be happy that we have always a good story in each episode. The main evident for that is, this drama is always the number 1 for Monday's and Tuesday's drama in their time slot. We will just happy with this drama and for all characters as well. JHHJ forever.

I see *this is evident even in this forum thread* I talk with many people, with PSH's fans also. This is not just my opinion. 10, 11, 12 ep ... At first I thought she had a little vacation. But no ... this continues. And the audience noticed it and discontent is growing. HJ is not only a JH's lovely woman. Drama interested of people that it may even be the first time in the Korean drama, the protagonist - a woman. And she is not just with someone and for someone, namely her character - leading. She's strong, smart, beautiful, sexy, etc. But gradually HJ from the main character becomes an ordinary female image for dramas - JH's lovely woman only. Your point of view is interesting, but this is how the character has been delineated. I'm not a huge fan of her but I recognize that she's a good actress and she's making an excellent characterization. She's a versatile actress and this drama demonstrate that. I agree with you that HJ isn't only a JH's lovely woman; and she isn't. She's a brilliant neurosurgeon, a good friend, and a lot more thing. And she isn't like a ordinary regular female image, she's a mature one that has obtained all with efforts and dedication. But she hasn't been placed on the role of victim like others main leads, who are pathetics... Sometimes we think that our favorite actors career need to be perfect but they all have ups and downs and for me, without being her fan, the HJ characterization is one of her high. So, don't think to much because if you're her fan, you need to give her the opportunity because the drama isn't over. She is shining with her works and that she has been paired with and excellent actor like KRW, it's the result of that. So, enjoy the ride until the end. Then, we'll see.

HJ sincerely didn't want JH to get into her dark past, and was genuinely upset that he did without her permission. In that sense, I guess that's why it became a case of the pot calling the kettle black. @CamelKnight well said about why HJ was also wrong. However, knowing HJ, I beg to differ about giving in too early. HJ is never a person that puts her pride before anything. 13 years ago, she was like that, and as JH pointed out then, she's intelligent so she figures out things very quickly, and when he guides her to one answer, she found the answers to both her questions. Her ability to self reflect, self criticise and her guts to just admit her mistakes when she makes one, is what really impresses me. Then again, I guess in my eyes, HJ can do no wrong. Lol. I'm bias. She's still a woman though. Women never give up so easily.
