Our Man is in US!!!

posted in BYU's Quilt and traslated by Joanne

BYJ is in US

Gaulyeoja posted a post-script of PIFF.

In it, she mentioned that BYJ is in US for shooting a CF.

That part is translated.

Mr. Yang we met

after finishing the conversation with audience(with director Hur JInho of 'Oe Chool(April Snow)')..

He gave us BYJ's news.

He told us that BYJ is now in US..

According to what I heard after that, BYJ went to US on 7..

They said he went to US to shoot a CF.

bb: another old but good interview...

this one dates back to 2003, enjoy...

An Interview with Bae Yong Joon

Source: Easy Magazine, 2003 Supplement (www.loveyongjoon.com)

Translated by: happiebb (www.baeyongjune.com)

_________________________________________________________________

Q: You’ve always enjoyed the image of being a perfect and matured new age man,

both on-screen as well as in the minds of your countless fans.

But in private, what do you enjoy doing?

A: Most people probably wouldn’t imagine that my favourite pastime

is to play computer games. Actually, I’m just a normal human being,

and like many other young people, I enjoy playing computer games.

Somehow, it relaxes and distresses me, and yet at the same time,

it provides me with an experience and thrill totally different from everyday life.

Q: What, to you, is happiness?

A: To me, happiness is doing what I want to do and to do them well.

You may not believe me, but I am happiest when I’m working.

My work is my life.

If I can excel in my work, everything is worth it

and that sort of happiness comes from within my heart.

Q: We know how much you like glasses;

how would you define being modern, stylish and attractive?

A: I personally like the more relaxed style of dressing,

it’s comfortable and the lines are clean and crisp.

A person can still look very stylish even if it’s just a V-neck knit sweater,

a pair of ripped blue jeans and a cap.

As for glasses, it’s something that I need on a daily basis.

I will take my time to choose a pair that I like,

and I will wear it for the whole day.

To me, being stylish is not about wearing the most expensive clothes

or to follow fashion and fads blindly.

It’s about finding something that best suit yourself

and being able to use these clothes to bring out the best in you.

Q: How do you build rapport and relationships with other people?

A: The exchanges between people and relationships are very important.

I enjoy interacting with others very much.

Once I’ve the opportunity, I will have a few drinks or have a meal with friends.

To be able to share something with friends

is more enjoyable than having something to myself.

I can't cook, but I will make coffee personally for my guests.

Q: I’ve heard that you’re very good at making coffee. What’s your secret?

A: My iced coffee is different from others.

As you know, the flavour of iced coffee is not as rich as hot coffee.

My iced coffee with floating ice,

other than the usual ingredients of coffee, frozen sugar and others,

I also add foaming butter, fruits and chocolate syrup.

Once the coffee is ready, add water and the frozen sugar,

then I will squeeze the foaming butter on top.

Then I will add the fruits and the chocolate.

If you don’t like it too sweet, then just add fruits will do.

Q: What is it that you’re still searching for in this world? What do you still lack?

A: A person will remain stagnant once he feels that he does not lack anything.

In terms of finances, I don’t think I’m lacking.

But as a man, I do fall behind in terms of a specialised profession,

professional training and perhaps some other areas.

But if someone feels he's so inadequate that he loses self confidence,

then it’s not a good thing.

Then again, a sense of inadequacy can be a motivating factor or a reason

to seek improvement and progress.

Q: You’ve taken up photography recently.

Are you pursuing your area of expertise and professionalism as a man?

A: No. I’ve always enjoyed creating or drawing something since I was young.

Maybe these things are quite extravagant or even indulgent,

but I do hope that when I’m older and have more time,

I can have a darkroom to develop my own photographs and do some printing.

Q: You’ve always wanted to try playing the role of a villain.

Do you think this is something that you can train for?

A: I want to act out the role through my own natural instinct.

I want to lure the inner evil self in me out in the open.

This may sound a little funny, I’ve always thought that a person has two sides,

the good and the bad. I’m curious to know my evil side,

and I hope to explore this part of me through a movie.

Q: What sports do you like to do?

A: Golf. But then again, I enjoy practically all sports activities.

I also do some winter sports in the snow.

Q: If you’ve a day to spend a million dollars, how would you spend it?

A: I will donate the money.

In “Have We Really Loved”, the character that I played died because of cancer.

Subsequently, the crew formed a charity group by the name of “Woo Jeong Sa”

(WJS, the name of the drama in Korean)

to help the people who suffer from brain cancer.

In fact, I’ve also helped to sell mugs during one of the group’s charity events too.

I’m willing and prepared to donate the money to the people who need it,

and do my best for charity.

Q: You lead such a busy and hectic lifestyle,

how do you relax yourself in your leisure time?

A: After a hard day’s work, I will spend time at home to watch a good movie.

So long as I’ve given my best at work,

I will be able to relax mentally at the end of the work day.

Conversely, if I think that I’ve not performed up to standards,

then I will reflect on why I did not do better and what I could do to do better.

I do not allow myself to fail.

I’m someone who is used to overcoming obstacles and giving my best,

even if it’s for the smallest detail.

Q: When did you realise that you’re growing up?

A: When I was in my teens , I suppose.

When I started to have stubble, I was extremely curious but happy and excited.

That was the first time I actually felt that I was becoming an adult.

I remembered trying on adults’ clothes; in fact, I put on my father’s suit and tie.

Ah… When my father found out, he spent time to talk to me about a lot of things.

Q: What did you learn from your parents?

A: My father’s role in the family was extremely important.

He loves the family very much.

He taught me to have strength and ability to face up to any problem.

He told me I had to be a responsible man.

My mother is a gentle woman

who works at hard to care for and protect our family.

She is very patient, intelligent and a very tolerant and understanding person.

These are the qualities that I want to learn from her.

Q: What are your views on friendship?

A: I think it will be extremely lonely and boring to lead a life all by yourself.

We cannot live without friends.

Although we may be so busy that we do not have time to meet,

but I will call my friends.

Even if we do not keep in constant and frequent contact,

friends will remain friends.

Once you think of them, you will feel happy.

Q: What are your expectations when it comes to your lifetime partner?

A: She must be understanding and tolerant;

she has to understand my busy and hectic work.

Also, she has to respect and be close to the family.

It will be even better if she is intelligent and sensible,

and can speak fluent English.

Oh, I would like her to share my interests and hobbies too.

Q: What expectations do you have regarding the future and married life?

A: When I get married, I want my friends and family to be at the ceremony.

That’s enough. It will be very romantic and sacred to have the wedding in a church.

I would like a boy and a girl, then lead a normal life

with my wife, children and our dogs!

Q: Do you enjoy attending public entertainment or PR events?

A: Not really, can’t say I enjoy them.

During such events, we normally can only see the external packaging of people;

we can’t really get to know the real characters of people through such events.

Actors and actresses obviously will know how to act…

Actors and actresses will even put on an act just to maintain a good image.

But I suppose I do have to attend such public events sometimes.

I'm a coffee lover like our man and i want to have a taste of Yong Joon's own concoction of Iced coffee. His description of the coffee is so yummy. Like the man himself :D

Why the "temperature difference" for K-wave stars in South Korea & Japan

translated from Chosun.com 01/10/05 by cam and posted by BYJ's Quilt

Why the "temperature difference" for K-wave stars in South Korea & Japan

What do BaeYong-Joon, Ryu Si-Won, Park Yong-Ha, Lee-Byeong-Heon, Song Seung- Heon have in common? They are all the latest K-wave stars and possess star power. Their popularity is higher in Japan than in South Korea. Not only the stars themselves are experiencing this "temperature difference", even their movies, dramas and products.

1. Difference of the aesthetic standard

Japanese writer ì¥Ôöâ÷íliving in South Korea expressed that this may have something to do with"°aesthetic standards". Her analysis states "The outline of Bae Yong-Joon's face is like a westerners" with a warm smile and voice. Choi Ji-woo has the height and fair skin, hence possessing a Martian's novelty appeal. You may not find these qualities in Japanese stars. A Korean Sky Life representative said that, "speaking of K-wave stars, they may be too common, hence the domestic market have lost some interest in them".

2. Characteristics of the Japanese – Frantic

We cannot forget the Japanese audience's characteristic of being "frantic". That is to say, they have discovered the innocent (pure) love of the 70's cartoon, like in "winter sonata" where Bae Yong-Joon acts in the leading role. They may use the South Korean entertainers to fulfil their fantasies. Broadcast film and television industry promotion researcher Jin Yong de said: "Among Japanese men, it may be quite difficult to find a person like Bae Yong-Joon, who is such a romantic and full of affection. Through appreciation of the South Korean entertainer, this may eliminate the dissatisfaction of Japanese women with their male counterparts". What is different is that South Korean soapies allow the space for one to use your imagination. Therefore many middle-aged females are addicted to South Korean soapies.

3. Popularity Domino phenomena

Moreover, there is a popularity domino effect, centred around Bae Yong-Joon, where his co-star's popularity are raising with the domino effect. Park Yong-Ha and Choi Ji-Woo are his co-stars from "Winter Sonata". Choi Ji-Woo's co-star Lee Byeong-Heon in "Everyone has secrets" popularity is also raising speedily. Therefore it is forecasted that Bae Yong-Joon's co-star in"April Snow", Son Ye-Jin will advance to the "K-wave" list soon.

South Korean culture travelling policy research institute researcher Cai Chi hyong said "The Japanese audience's frantic characteristic is more obvious". There also exists many kinds of cultural commodity usage. Hence the life of the K-stars will inevitably lengthen. This bears the same logic as some of the Hollywood stars entering into the Asian market after their popularity has declined in Hollywood.

(Trans.) Report on 1-Sep press conference by nifty.com

translated & posted by Oxon in BYJ's Quilt Freeboard

This is an inside-story-type report on 1-Sep press conference in Japan by "@nifty Hanryu", whose pictures I introduced on the posting No.13308.

**********************************

Director Hur Jin Ho, Son Ye Jin and Bae Yong Joon appeared from the left side of the stage; numerous flash bulbs of cameras were set off one after another, and the three were covered by white lights.

dsc_0005.JPG

(BYJ's picture whitened due to the lights from TV cameras and flush bulbs of still cameras)

It must have been very dazzling and hot on the stage, as the light was so bright even for me at the photographers' seats.

dsc_0007.JPG

(Bae Yong Joon, getting on the stage)

Since only 10 minutes (!) were given as the photo shooting session for the media, all the photographers were desperate. The room was filled with the shutter sounds and the shouts from the photographers at all directions to ask Bae Yon Joon to look at them. I shouted too, in order not to be outdone by other photographers.

"Bae Yong Joon ssi, Yogi Poseyo!!!" (Mr. Bae Yong Joon, please look at here!!!)

"Yogiyo!!!"(This way !!!)

While most photographers used to speak to stars in English until recently, the number of photographers who speak to them in Korean has increased. This might be a result of the Hanryu Boom.

dsc_0009.JPG

Bae Yong Joon, Son Ye Jin and Director Hur Jin Ho)

I concentrated on releasing the shutter towards the stage, as it was the game for only 10 minutes.

dsc_0035.JPG

(It must have been so dazzling and hot for him, but he gave us such a beautiful smile)

While the smile of Bae Yong Joon was beautiful of course, I also noticed his warm consideration, when watching him through the camera finder.

As he attracted the highest attention there, the cameras were inevitably focused on him. The photographers were all desperate to take as good pictures as possible, and Bae Yong Joon, who seemed to understand their feelings, looked and smiled towards each of 300 still cameras and 90 TV cameras equally.

Whereas I have reported on several actors and actresses so far, I have never seen the person who was as considerate of such many photographers as him. I sensed that he showed same consideration towards the photographers as he did towards 5,000 fans from the stage at Japan Premier on August 30th.

"Did this come from his gentleness and cordiality?"

Well, of course that is true, too. But, I felt, with following his eyes through the finder, that "he may be showing, via cameras, his feeling for his fans who will see their pictures afterwards."

I had known Bae Yong Joon only through the media reports and his dramas before. But, through this close contact with real Bae Yong Joon, I think I can understand why the fans love him so much to some extent.

dsc_0164.JPG

(Can I call this broad smile? He has a really expressive face)

Gaeulyeoja posted this on the Talk Box of BYJ's official home. This is from an old newspaper article.

translated & posted by Joanne in Quilt

Great brotherly (-sisterly) love! BYJ & his sister

BYJ 'tear of regrets'

fla1s.jpg

Looking at BYJ who could not hold back his tears to the extent his eyes got red,

while watching his sister who had her wedding at a small Catholic church in Heukseok-Dong on the past 20th, people around him became reverential.

( ~not sure about the date but Joanne said its probably 1999 or 2000)

While he was so busy greeting guests throughout the wedding ceremony,

BYJ never neglected to show off his sister, saying "My sister is pretty, isn't she?"

pulling each and every one of guests to the bride's waiting room, and

when he saw his sister burst into tears during the march of the bride and groom, the last in the order of the wedding ceremony,

he also burst into tears and ran out of the wedding hall.

It was an explosion of BYJ's heart as he said that the fact he could not take care of his sister well

when his family went through hardship when they were small had become a regret, and

the woman guests around him who were watching this also burst into tears at the sight of tears from the top star.

In the middle of all that, many entertainment managers who attended the wedding highly praised the beautiful look of BYJ's sister

saying in unison, "BYJ's sister, not BYJ, should have acted, shouldn't she?" after they saw how beautiful she was.

For days after I read the article in 8 Days, I have been quietly fuming. I was debating whether to do anything at all but I thought I may have been oversensitive. But I have found out that I'm not the only one who found the article offensive.

So, I have written a note which I will send to the writer as well as the editor in 8 Days. So if you are nodding you head to what I've written and think you would like to add a voice to it, then just add your name here in the Quilt, posting 13353 under comments or go to the JF site, where I've posted it. http://joonsfamily.com/cms/viewtopic.php?p...bbd25c641#19367

Actual names are preferable and the country you are from. If you feel uncomfortable about leaving your name on the net, then email to me your name at tiffanys_j@yahoo.com.sg with the heading "Complaint letter to 8 Days"

I will send the email off this Thursday, 12noon. I am rather tired of all this wisecrack about the fans being aunties and I feel it's time to speak up.

Dear Florence

First of all, I'm glad to see Bae Yong Joon and Son Yeh Jin on the cover in last week's issue. I was looking forward to reading about your views and experiences in Korea attending the movie premiere.

I understand that the style of 8 Days is supposed to be tongue-in-cheek, however, your article leaves me in amazement, as I have failed to see any humour in it.

Firstly, I believe your trip was paid for by the movie distributor. Your purpose there in Seoul was to cover the media movie premiere scene and the movie itself. You may or may not like the movie, Bae Yong Joon, Son Yeh Jin or even Director Hur. I recognise this as being subjective. BUT, as a reader, paying S$2 for the magazine, I was definitely not interested to read about your experience to the washroom, your little nap in the cinema nor your hunger pangs. These ancedotes, I believe, are better being posted on your own blog where it would be more suitable. Not only is your article an insult to the director, the artistes and all related people who have put in much work to bring the movie to you, it also leaves a bad impression to the readers in the other countries (believe me, it has been posted everywhere), who must be wondering if the Singapore media and press all behave as thus.

Secondly, as a fan of BYJ, I must say that I'm rather annoyed at being referred to as a "taugeh-plucking ah soh", and no, I do not find it at all amusing. The majority of his fans are working professionals, with occupation ranging from lawyers, doctors, to accountants to financial consultants. Whilst I'm sure we all pluck taugehs at home occasionally for our meals, it is certainly not our full time job.

Perhaps you may think I'm over reacting as it's meant to be a bit of fun article but unfortunately I am unable to see the humour as it has failed to give me any insight into your view of the movie. As one the of more well known entertainment magazine in Singapore, your article has far reaching influence and with that comes the responsibility to write a proper article for the readers who trust your views.

Btw, the focus of April Snow is not in the love making scene, and the goal is not in consummating their love. If that is what you think the whole movie is about, perhaps I could recommend that you watch some for the more raunchy movies available in the market instead? I would also like to suggest that you watch the movie again... if you think you can endure those white bra and impressive pecs again. Perhaps this time, make sure that you buy your pop corn and visit the washroom before watching the movie. It would make the movie a little more enjoyable for yourself and everyone else watching the movie.

From

a part time taugeh plucking auntie, but a full time working professional

Tiffany

good morning :):)

Thank you so much Tiff for composing the letter to 8 days. its really high time that this kind of reporters be told on how they conduct themselves. personally, i'm getting sick and tired of all these nonsense crap & rubbish talks about BYJ and his fans. i may belong to the lower age group of yong joon's fans but i feel insulted everytime i read articles/reports lined with sarcasm & too much tongue in cheek.

i'm really wondering why these reporters are putting so much hype on BYJ's fans when all the popular korean actors nowadays have this so called auntie fans. and they keep forgetting that these fans were major contributors in the korean wave sweeping asia today.

perhaps this writer ( she does not deserve the title ) of 8 days will realize that the very rude article she did made her appear so unprofessional and so biased in the eyes of the readers, even for non byj fans.

btw, i emailed you and added my name too ;)

Hi there tiff and good morning to everyone! :D

Very well said! I think it's high time that these so called "reporters" should get some words from fans. They should know how to write responsibly. Good luck and will be supporting you on this. I just emailed you my support.

Though living in another country, I also get a copy of 8 days from friend from time to time. I wonder how the editor was able approve such unprofessional article to be published. Sigh...
