거절 그리고 만남 이야기

김민준(혹은 매니저)에게 두 번 거절당했다. 알겠지만, 인터뷰 말이다. 한 번은 <강력 3반>, 또 한 번은 <예의없는 것들> 때였다. 조금 서운했다. 다른 영화지나 패션지에 등장한 걸 봤을 땐 비참한 기분에 빠졌다. 미팅에서 나만 버림받은 느낌이랄까. 하지만 곧 잊었다. <사랑>을 보고, 그에게 통산 세 번째 인터뷰를 신청했다. 홍보마케터가 드라마 촬영 때문에 어려울 것 같다고 말했다. 이번엔 심장이 쿡 쑤셨다. 그런데, 반전이라면 반전이 일어났다. 홍보마케터 왈, 김민준 씨가 인터뷰를 꼭 하고 싶어 하니, 기다려 달란다. 그는 오는 11월, KBS에서 방영되는 <인순이는 예쁘다>를 찍고 있었다. 표민수 프로듀서가 연출하는 드라마로, 김현주가 여자 주인공, 그가 남자 주인공이다. 드라마를 찍고 있을 때 배우가 다른 스케줄을 빼기란 쉽지 않다. 그런데 인터뷰가 잡혔다. 좀 많이 놀랐다.

인터뷰를 하는 동안, 그가 시간을 낸 건 <사랑>에 대한 애정 때문이란 생각이 굳어졌다. 그는 지난 여름 한 철, <사랑>과 함께 정말 재밌는 시간을 보냈다고 했다. <사랑> 스태프들과 일한 것이 긍지로 느껴진다고 했다. 그 기분이 왠지 생생하게 전해졌다. 사진 촬영이 끝나고, 밤 11시가 다 된 시각부터 자정까지 진행된, 긴 인터뷰도 마무리 될 때쯤 그의 눈꺼풀이 슬금슬금 감겼다. 늦게까지 드라마를 찍다 와서다. 뭘 물어도 김민준은 자신만의 속 깊은 논리가 서 있었다. 그 덕분에 호감 쪽은 아니었던, 곽경택 감독에 대한 생각이 흔들리기도 했다. 지난 8월 25일, 요코하마에서 진행한 팬 미팅 얘기도 했다. 그는 2300명 정도 되는 일본 팬들과 일일이 눈을 맞춰가며 악수를 했다고 했다. 갑자기 스튜디오에 들어서자마자 그가 악수를 청한 게 문득 떠올랐다. (내가) 볼펜을 쥔 손으로 악수하느라 감촉은 처음부터 제대로 느껴지지 않았다. 왠지 후회됐다.

사랑 이야기

김민준은 곽경택 감독과 작업하고 싶었다. 김민준도 부산 출신이었다. 따라서 곽경택 감독의‘경상도 정서’내지‘경상도 악센트가 등장하는 영화’와 같은 특질들에 편하게 다가설 수 있었다. 그는 어느 정도 자신감도 있었다. 아직 어느 작품에서도 보인 적 없는 자신의 ‘경상도 정서’를 끌어내야 한다면, 그는 곽경택 감독과 같은 최고로 프로페셔널한 사람과 일하고 싶었다. 그러던 차 <사랑> 소식을 알게 됐다. 그는 작품에 출연하는 걸 떠나 그와 마주보고 얘기할 기회를 갖고 싶었다. 사실 김민준은 곽경택 감독이 대표이사로 있는‘진인사 필름’의 작품을 할 뻔 하다 성사되지 못한 전례가 있었다. 그는 그 과정에서 자신이 오해를 줬을지도 모른다는 생각을 했다. 있다면 만나서 풀고 싶었다. 그는 곽경택 감독에게 배우로서의 자신을 보여주고 싶었다. 어떤 작품이 됐든 그와 작업하고 싶은 의사를 밝히고 싶었다. 만남은 이루어졌고, 김민준은 바람대로 다음 작품도 아닌, 바로 <사랑>에‘우정출연’할 기회를 갖게 됐다. 악역‘치권’이 주어졌다. 곽경택 감독의 말에 의하면, 주인공을 제외하고, 뒤집어 생각하면 가장 매력적으로 보일 수 있는 캐릭터였다. 촬영은 너무나 즐거웠다. 그는 술이 몸에 받지 않아 주량이 약한 데도, 곽경택 감독과 마실 땐 이상하게 취하지도 않고 잘도 마셨다. 촬영 횟수가 많지 않음에도, 그는 스스로 좋아서 어슬렁어슬렁 촬영장인 부산을 배회했다. 김민준은 곽경택 감독과 작업하는 동안, ‘치유’의 기분을 느꼈다. 연기할 땐 호흡이 한결 편해졌다. ‘김민준’인 줄 알아채지 못할 정도로 파격적인 외모 변신을 했다. 함께 작업한 사람들로부터‘선하다’는 칭찬을 적잖게 들어온 그가 극단적으로 비도덕적인 인간이 됐다. 가래침을 화악 뱉는(편집됐지만!), 평소라면 엄두도 못 낼 막 나가는 행동을 연기하며 짜릿함도 느꼈다. 하지만 그는‘치권’이란 인물이 불쌍했다. 그에게 진한 연민을 느꼈다. 그런 ‘치권’이 이제 곧 당신을 찾아가는 거다!

페르소나

“저는 낯을 많이 가리는 배우에요. 굉장히 천천히 맴돌다 접근하는 편이죠. 그래서 친해질 만하면 헤어지는 경우가 있어요. 그게 아쉬워서 같은 감독님과 다시 작업해요(그는 김진만 감독과 <아일랜드>와 <어느 멋진날>을, 김형식 감독과 <프라하의 연인>과 <외과의사 봉달희>를 작업했다). 그리고 거기엔 좀 같잖지만, 누구의 페르소나가 되보고 싶은 욕망이 있기 때문이기도 해요.”

보은

“저는 <강력 3반> 팀에게 진짜 빚진 기분이에요. 그래서 감독님이나 피디님이 혹시 제가 잘돼서 나중에 손을 빌려주길 원한다면, 너무너무 흔쾌히 할 거예요. ‘이제 갚을 때구나!’생각하면서. (웃음) 영화 끝나고, 정말 우스갯소리로 이런 얘기까지 했다니까요. ‘제발 제 개런티, 돌려드리면 안 될까요?’그래서 그때까지 열심히 해야 되지 않을까 생각해요. 기회가 오면, 무보수로 출연하는 거죠.”

배짱

“옛날 일을 좀 미화시켜서 사람들한테 자랑하는 게 있는데, 예전에 몇 천 만원의 개런티를 주는 CF와 몇 십 만 원 정도를 버는 패션쇼가 겹치면, 저는 후자를 택했어요. CF쪽에서 돈이 안 아쉽냐고 하면, 저는 패션모델이고, CF는 부수적인 거라고 얘기했어요. 지금은 안 그러죠. (웃음) 그 땐 패션모델이 CF를 하면 인정받지 못하는 분위기가 있어서이기도 했지만, 그런 걸 선택할 수 있을 만큼의 약간의 배짱을 길러준 부모님들이 좋아요.”

테크니션

“며칠 전에 대선배님한테 이런 얘길 들었어요. 제가 연기자로서 좋은 부분이 진실한 거라구요. 그래서 테크닉이 부족하다고 느끼고 테크니션을 지향하면, 너의 감성적인 부분들을 많이 다치니까 절대 놓지 말라고 하더라구요.”

재미

“연기를 즐기면서 한 적은 거의 없는 것 같아요. 이때까지 찍었던 작품 보면, 진주를 만드는 조개가 된 기분이었어요. 부대껴서 고통스럽게 찍었던 작품이라서 보는 내가 힘들어요.”

Hello! I'm new here in Kim Minjun's thread but I liked him ever since I watched him in Lovers in Prague. I'm watching Surgeon Bong Dalhee now and I must say I reallly really like this actor!

I loved his cute smile in Surgeon Bong Dal-hee! He also impressed with his credible portrayal of a surgeon.

I was really thrilled to watch him in Insoon is pretty as well, I just can't get enough of this guy. He's such a sensitive soul and his sincere, beautiful eyes are so mesmerising. :blush:

Okay here's a translation for the chinese text:

The 1st paragraph briefly introduces his filmography and hectic schedule- at least one show per year! what a hard worker.

I am a big fans of Kim Min Joon and I appreciated all of its interpretations.

In Damo I am upset his great ability to make expressive interiority of his character.

In Ireland I loved the sensitivity of his heart when loves his neighbor.

In Surgeon Bong Dal Hee was simply wonderful in the portrait of a doctor with a human face, capable of love with great intensity and has formed a great pair with Oh Yoon Ah, but in In-soon is pretty was sweet and tender.

Vistablues, you are right, we must give more support Kim Min Joon, because it really deserves. :blush:

It's funny how I missed this guy- even after watching Ireland & damo.. only to notice him (big time) in "In-Soon is pretty". He's definitely not your typical hearthrob, but he exudes so much charm, especially through his eyes. I can't help but notice the characteristic way he walks, there's just something unique about it.. hmm..

I'm a major fan now. Especially now that I'm catching up on his older dramas; just finished Surgeon Bong Dal Hee; his portrayal as a man torn between duty and loyalty really got to me. vistablues, thank you for the translations, I enjoyed reading it <3
