Shin Hyun Bin, Kwak Dong Yeon, Nam Da Reum and more join TVING’s new supernatural drama ‘Monstrous’

TVING’s new original ‘Monstrouswhich will be released in the first half of 2022, confirms the casting of Gu Gwan-hwa, Shin Hyun-bin, Kim Ji-young, Park Ho-san, Kwak Dong-yeon, and Nam Da-reum and have begun the principal shoot. Directed by Yeon Sang Ho, the revolutionary director that brought the supernatural craze to the industry with movies such as ‘Train to Busan’, ‘Peninsula’, ‘Seoul Station’, etc and the fans are looking forward to his brilliant work in drama form as well.

'Monstrous' tells the story of people who are deceived by the curse of 'it', which should not have appeared in the world, and an archaeologist who pursues an unprecedented bizarre incident. A village swept away by disaster with the discovery of a mysterious noble Buddha, the chaos of people facing strange horrors and the process of chasing them provides bone-chilling entertainment.

The actors who will build an original worldview more realistically also excite drama fans. Gu Gwan-hwa takes on the role of Jeong Ki-hoon, an eccentric archaeologist who studies strange supernatural phenomena. The ex-husband of Lee Soo-jin (Shin Hyun-bin), a person whose life was changed by an unexpected incident. He is now running an occult magazine and YouTube channel, 'Monthly Ghost Stories'. Jung Ki-hoon encounters an unbelievable bizarre phenomenon as he investigates the ghost that appeared in Jinyang-gun. Shin Hyun-bin plays Lee Soo-jin, a genius pattern interpreter who faces a terrible disaster. In Jinyang-gun, where she lost her only daughter and left everything behind, Lee Soo-jin begins to experience symptoms for an unknown disease. Expectations are also focused on Shin Hyun-bin's performance, who will elaborately unravel the complex inner side of chasing the reality of the unknown.

Kwak Dong-yeon takes on the role of Kwak Yong-joo, a trouble maker in Jinyang-gun. With his rebellious eyes and a sullen attitude, he is a somewhat crooked figure at first glance. For Kwak Yong-joo, the terrible disaster that struck the village is a monetary opportunity to him. Kwak Dong-yeon, who emerged as a popular actor through 'Vincenzo', now has his fans waiting in anticipation over his role as a negative person.

Nam Da-reum takes on the role of Han Do-kyung, the only human who does not lose his good will among the people of Jinyang-gun who are in chaos. A person who is deeply entangled with Kwak Yong-joo (Kwak Dong-yeon), who is displeased with him. He wants to live a normal life without being entangled in noisy affairs, but a disaster that comes one day awakens Han Do-kyung's resistance. Nam Da-reum, who has established himself as an actor in many dramas and movies, will now capture the hearts of viewers with his versatility.

The production team of ‘Monstrous’ said, "We will present a supernatural thriller of another dimension. Please look forward to the synergy of the actors who will complete the unique worldview and enact the various types of people in chaos."

Happy Birthday to our Kwakkie ! :fullofhearts:

Kwak Dong Yeon: The rise of a star in Love in the Moonlight, My ID is Gangnam Beauty, Vincenzo & more

Kwak Dong Yeon is a South Korean actor and musician who began his acting career in ‘My Husband Got a Family’ at the age of 15. He has since gone on to create quite the name for himself by taking on versatile roles in multiple dramas that have shaped his acting career into one that can be applauded.

Today on his 25th birthday, we take a look at some of the notable ones.

Love in the Moonlight:

This show became the breakout role for the actor when he embodied Kim Byung Yeon. A confidante for the King, his long hair and sword skills had everyone falling for his charms. His bromance with Park Bogum was loved by many.

My ID is Gangnam Beauty:

Though brief, Kwak Dong Yeon was an adorable addition to Im Soo Hyang and Cha Eun Woo’s story. With the worldwide success of the show, he was also recognised by many.

My Strange Hero:

As Se Ho, the actor was often gullible and pitiful throughout the course of this drama. His side roles persisted but his presence in each one was bigger than the last, building up a high drop for him.

Never Twice:

Portraying as an heir once again, we believe it’s the aura that the actor exudes making everyone believe in his acting. Much softer than his others, Na Hae Joon allowed fans to admire yet another side of the actor this time.

A personal favourite, Kwak Dong Yeon had this one in the bag. His role presented him as a living conundrum who was wronged at each step and yet lived out to do wrong to others. By the end, the audiences empathised with him however couldn’t forgive his actions. Class acting by the young man.

3 Key Points To Check Out In Upcoming Thriller “Monstrous”

he premiere of TVING’s original thriller “Monstrous” is almost here!

TVING’s original series “Monstrous” is about the people who are lured in by a curse from “that thing” that shouldn’t have come out into the world and tells the story of archaeologists who chase after monstrous cases that have never been heard of. As a village gets swept up in disaster with the discovery of a mysterious possessed statue of the Buddha, the confusion from the people who face the strange terror and the process of chasing after it will deliver great suspense to viewers.

Even before its premiere, “Monstrous” gained global recognition after being invited to the Cannes International Series Festival in the Korea Focus section.

With the series premiere quickly approaching, here are three key points that will allow you to watch the show even more enjoyably!

1. A very Korean supernatural thriller

Ever since “Monstrous” was announced, there was high anticipation for the series due to the involvement of director Yeon Sang Ho, who directed “Train to Busan” and “Peninsula.” Through “Monstrous,” Yeon Sang Ho will once again showcase his limitless imagination. While working on the drama “The Cursed,” Yeon Sang Ho dealt with traditional Korean shamans, ghosts, and legends, which will translate into creating a unique supernatural thriller with “Monstrous.”

Anticipation is rising for his collaboration with writer Ryu Yong Jae, who wrote “Pied Piper,” “My Holo Love,” and the upcoming Korean remake of “Money Heist.” The writer commented, “When you look at the project’s exterior, it takes the form of a thriller chasing after supernatural events, but when you look at what’s happening in the village, it looks like a disaster series. Honestly, it’s the happenings of the hurt and pain each individual experiences as a result of the curse, reappearing in the form of something extreme.”

“Monstrous” will also be directed by Jang Gun Jae, who won Best Screenplay at the 16th Busan Film Critics Award and Best Director and Best Screenplay at the 3rd Wildflower Film Awards with the film “A Midsummer’s Fantasia.”

2. Goo Kyo Hwan and Shin Hyun Been’s flawless chemistry

Due to their charms and solid acting, viewers are well-aware that a collaboration between Goo Kyo Hwan and Shin Hyun Been must be nothing short of amazing.

Goo Kyo Hwan transforms into the eccentric archaeologist Jung Ki Hoon who researches bizarre supernatural phenomena. In the midst of running the occult YouTube channel titled “Monthly Ghost Stories,” he faces a strange and unbelievable phenomenon while investigating the Buddhist statue found in Jinyang County.

Shin Hyun Been stars as his wife and the genius pattern cryptanalyst Lee Soo Jin who ends up having to face a terrible disaster. After losing her only daughter, Lee Soo Jin puts down everything to return to Jinyang County where she begins to experience inexplicable events. Stay tuned to see how these two will be able to protect one another in this hell-like situation.

3. The diverse group of people in the village

The story of “Monstrous” begins when a possessed statue, that’s been sealed for a very long time, awakens to disrupt a peaceful village. Once the village gets thrown into chaos, every individual showcases their different approaches to tackling the disaster.

Kim Ji Young stars as police chief Han Suk Hee, while Park Ho San plays Kwon Jong Soo, Jinyang County’s supervisor. The town’s trouble maker Kwon Yong Joo will be played by Kwak Dong Yeon and Nam Da Reum portrays Han Do Kyung, who does not lose his determination while everyone around him struggles to think straight.

“Monstrous” premieres on April 29. Check out a teaser here!

Kwak Dong Yeon, Go Sung Hee, Kang Min Ah, And Bae Hyun Sung Confirmed For New Webtoon-Based Drama

Kwak Dong Yeon, Go Sung Hee, Bae Hyun Sung, and Kang Min Ah are teaming up for a new drama!

On May 16, the cast lineup for the upcoming webtoon-based drama “Gaus Electronics” (literal title) was confirmed. The original webtoon experienced great success, reaching 2.6 billion total views and receiving rave reviews across the world for its realistic yet humorous depiction of office life. “Gaus Electronics” will cover struggles that all office workers will relate to as well as office romance and friendships.

Kwak Dong Yeon will be taking on the role of Lee Sang Sik, a difficult character working in the third branch of the marketing department for Gaus Electronics. He’s an extremely obtuse person who doesn’t shy away from speaking his mind when others, even his seniors, say things that don’t align with his views. He is a stickler for common sense, and because of his strong convictions in a reality where common sense doesn’t always work, he somehow becomes the center of conflict. It will be interesting to see how Kwak Dong Yeon, who previously delivered stellar performances in projects like “Monstrous,” “Vincenzo,” and “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay,” will take on this troublemaker of a character.

Lee Sang Sik causes the most headaches for his senior Cha Na Rae, played by Go Sung Hee. Go Sung Hee’s previous works include “King Maker: The Change of Destiny,” “Suits,” and “Mother.” As the assistant manager of the same branch in the marketing department, Cha Na Rae is efficient and always on top of her work. She has a fiery personality that explodes uncontrollably once in a while, but she is a bit up in the clouds when it comes to anything besides work in her everyday life.

Bae Hyun Sung will take on the role of Baek Ma Tan, the next in line to take over Power Group, Korea’s No. 2 company and Gaus Electronics’ biggest rival. In an attempt to make out his own path beyond his father’s sphere of influence, Baek Ma Tan starts working at Gaus Electronics. In his new role as Baek Ma Tan, Bae Hyun Sung will impress with a new side of him through a more comical role than his previous roles in “Extraordinary You,” “Our Blues,” and “Hospital Playlist.”

Finally, Kang Min Ah will transform into employee Gun Gang Mi. While Baek Ma Tan comes from a family of immense wealth, his co-worker Gun Gang Mi comes from a family on the opposite end of the spectrum. She is crazily tough on herself and makes painstaking efforts to stay in shape. Thanks to this, she is considered to be one of the prettiest employees at the office. But when she gets drunk, her huge appetite which she has been suppressing takes over, and she transforms into the Hulk. Gun Gang Mi hosts two starkly different personas, and viewers will get to see Kang Min Ah portray both in “Gaus Electronics.” Kang Min Ah made her mark through previous performances in “Park Hwa Young,” “True Beauty,” and “Beyond Evil.”

“Gaus Electronics” will be the first time Kwak Dong Yeon, Go Sung Hee, Bae Hyun Sung, and Kang Min Ah work together. They will bring the four peculiar characters with their own quirks to life in the series. Producer Seo Soo Min, who worked on “Gag Concert,” “The Producers,” and “The Sound of Your Heart,” will participate as a creator, and producer Park Joon Soo, who worked on “The God of Music” and “M Countdown,” will helm “Gaus Electronics.”

The show is set to premiere in the second half of 2022!
