Philippe and Driss are singing and bopping their heads to the music as the police escorts them to the hospital.   This is a really nice beginning sequence. )

At the hospital, the police summon for a stretcher to be brought, then leave, having done their duty. The driver lights up a cigarette, then shares it with Phillippe.
“Now what?” Phillippe asks.
“Let me decide,” says the driver, and they drive off leaving the quickly approaching ER staff - stretcher in tow - in their tracks.





Credits roll, and we see “Intouchables” (translated, “Untouchables”) is based on a true story.

In this opening scene we see two men, obviously of different racial backgrounds and walks of life, yet equally obvious is the wonderful friendship and trust they share.  They are more alike than they are different, in sync with each other, partners in crime.  I found myself wanting to know immediately how this unlikely pairing of friends and caring came to be.  My wish was granted with the scene that followed.

Cut to a scene of men seated in an ornate room.  They are awaiting a job interview.  The man who we saw as the driver is among them.  They are vying for a position as caregiver of a quadriplegic man, Phillipe.  





Each tries his best in the interview, some spouting off enviable references to recommend themselves. Phillippe is seated in close proximity, listening to the candidates.  He is quiet in his reactions to the various hopefuls, but it is obvious by his eye movements that he is not thrilled with most of the prospects.
