i want to love this drama, but is it just me or does kim jung eun's acting seem a bit awkward (especially in first several scenes of the first episode)...

the way she speaks is a like a robot.... just staring in one location and spitting out the lines...

and her korean seems a bit unnatural... is this b/c her character in the drama is japanese who learned korean as a second language? am i hallucinating and noticing things that are not there? lol i do admit i've been sleep deprived recently....

omg i don't know why i'm so bothered by kim jung eun's acting... she's usually sooo amazing/natural (i.e. in 'I am legend')...

thoughts?

Hi Everyone,
I'm new to this thread. Just watched ep.1 & fell totally in love with this drama. Thanks for the raw link for ep.2 I will watch this now, raw. But I'd like to join you Guys because I think this is going to be a big hit. This was hilarious & moving at the same time. I felt so bad for her with her asthma attack. Yet, I love her bi-polar laugh in ep1 & the mystical undertones regarding previous lives was great!

After the switch is hilarious!!!!!! I was seriously laughing so hard. Hubby is right on playing the wife and the wife (kje), we only get to see her act for a few minutes at the end of the episode (as the hubby that is). I always feel like it's harder for the girl to play the guy more than the guy to play the girl. Both are hard... and it's off to a hilarious start.

Doctors, horses, body swaps: New ratings battle by javabeans | October 2, 2012 | 57 Comments

Out with the old, in with the new: There’s a brand-new ratings three-way in dramaland, with two new dramas premiering this week in the Monday-Tuesday slot. And wouldn’t you know it, the results didn’t quite shake out as expected.

Oohlala Spouses was KBS’s new entry, with its rom-com hijinks replacing Haeundae Lovers. Over on MBC, The Horse Healer took over the top slot from medical drama Golden Time. And on SBS, we’ve still got sageuk drama Faith hanging in there as it enters the second half of its run.

All eyes were on The Horse Healer to run away with the prize, for multiple reasons: It’s a grand-scale sageuk, and audiences like those; it’s got a large production budget (20 billion won); it’s taking over a winning timeslot; and the cast is chock full of name stars such as film actor Jo Seung-woo, Lee Yo-won (who starred in Queen Seon-deok to uber-hit ratings), Sohn Chang-min, Lee Sang-woo, Kim So-eun, and more. And yet, The Horse Healer could only muster a last-place premiere. Its number was 8.7%.

Oohlala Spouses was definitely the one I was looking forward to given its uproarious premise and promotional teasers/posters/previews (also: I miss good comedies—where did they go?), but I didn’t expect it to be the first-place finisher off the bat. For one, rom-coms as a genre tend to play second fiddle to sageuks; it’s not my personal preference, but that’s just the dramaland way. Also, while Oohlala’s stars are well-respected and talented (Kim Jung-eun, Shin Hyun-joon), they don’t quite have the buzz factor or fresh youth of a Jo Seung-woo or an Lee Min-ho.

Yet whaddaya know, it pulled out a double-digit premiere (10.9%) and claimed first place. Aww, yeah. Faith, meanwhile, stayed more or less level with a 9.3%.

That was Monday. Tuesday’s episode was even better for Oohlala (go, shenanigans, go!), which made a nice jump to 14.5%. Faith stayed level again with a 9.5%. But despite the slight uptick, this time that only rated third place, because The Horse Healer also ticked upward to 9.7%.

It’s worth noting that these numbers are all pretty close anyway, so there’s no overwhelming winner or loser. Contrast that with the Wednesday-Thursday shows, where there’s a much clearer hierarchy. (Nice Guy looks like it’s going to keep growing from its mid-teens ratings, perhaps on its way to filling the void left by its predecessor Gaksital, which broke 20%. Arang and the Magistrate holds steady in the lower-teens ratings, while To the Beautiful You has spent the entirety of its run in the 4%-5% range.)

Another caveat: I suspect that The Horse Healer will find its audience, despite its slow start. Yesterday the headlines were all doom and gloom about the big blockbuster coming in last place. (Though really, it was last place by less than a percentage point.) Today, the mood is more optimistic, and this is a show with 48 episodes more to go. There is plenty of time. (SO MUCH TIME. Oy, 50 episoders.) Though I can’t help rooting for Oohlala to at least keep its lead for its 16 episodes; then it can hand it off to the horse doc. As for Faith… yeah, I see why it’s at 9%, and that seems about right to me. It’s a fun show to think about… but sometimes more so than to actually watch. Yes, even with the beauty that is Lee Min-ho. Oh right, and Kim Hee-sun ain’t exactly shabby either.

Oohlala Spouses makes best poster ever by girlfriday | September 25, 2012 | 69 Comments

Pwahahahaha. If this show is half as funny as its promo material, it’ll be a winner. What genius made this awesome poster? And how does Shin Hyun-joon look kind of pretty as a bride?? Here’s the official poster for the upcoming gender-bendy rom-com Oohlala Spouses, starring Shin Hyun-joon (Gaksital) and Kim Jung-eun (Hanbando, I Am Legend), where everything you need to know about the premise is just right there on the hilarious poster: Soul-swapping husband and wife? Check. Gender-bendy shenanigans? Check. A cast that’s down for anything? Check and check.

The stills and second teaser down below give us a little more meat in regards to the couple’s initial conflict. Namely, it looks like hubby’s a cheating bastard. It’s also messing with my head that Han Chae-ah went from kissing one Gaksital to the other, but clearly Shin Hyun-joon has left that character behind. Turns out a man in a bridal mask and a bridal gown are just two very different things.

This teaser starts out parodying Big right away, which cracks me up. Please tell me that means you’re planning to get the body swapping done right for a change. It looks like the couple goes from a fateful rescue meet-cute to a rocky marriage that lands them in divorce court. But then the powers that be step in to swap their souls, forcing them to get a little taste of what life is like on the other side of that gender and marital divide.

Stills below show hotelier hubby on the job and philandering with his manager, and also in the aftermath of what looks like a violent accident involving a shoe. Is that what happened to you when your wife found you out? The stills of Kim Jung-eun as a geisha are just as curious, though they’re reportedly having to do with the character’s past in some way.

The drama actually seems like a funnier, zanier version of the rom-com Can’t Lose more than any of the other body-swapping dramas, as far as story goes. There’s such great conflict in setting up a switcheroo for a married couple that begin the show rooted in very traditional gender roles — room for character growth, heartwarming moments of understanding, and so much hilarity if done right. So far, all signs point to yes.

The production is helmed by PD Lee Jung-sub of Baker King and writer Choi Soon-shik of Bad Couple. Since the current Monday-Tuesday show Haeundae Lovers aired three episodes this week to finish out the series, Oohlala Spouses premieres next Monday on KBS.

SHJ is hilarious as his wife! His body language, movements, and speech is perfect! I've seen many body swaps and I've got to say SHJ totally killed it! I was crying out of laughter when he realized the swap.  I can't wait to see more of KJH as the husband! I like that there is fate played into this and hopefully we'll see more of why he cheated and the woman ... I have to say he was a jerky husband before though!
