[News] ‘Daebak/Jackpot’ Jang Keun Suk’s efforts for 3 months

[OSEN=Ra Hyo Jin] Historical drama of 24 episodes. Drama break of 2 years. Outstanding juniors and seniors actors. There were several obstacles in front of Jang Keun Suk, the actor who played the main role at ‘Jackpot’. However, the actor who has been 20 years since debuted was different somehow. He overcame all those obstacles through his acting skills and charisma and led the drama great for 3 months.

Jang Keun Suk’s activity until the last episode of SBS ‘Jackpot’ aired on June 14 was outstanding. To his brother Youngjo (a role played by Yeo Jin-goo) who is vigilant because of complex that he was born from lowest class of people family and anxious about the throne obtained with difficulty, Baek Dae-gil tried hard to earn trust. Baek Dae-gil’s pathetic eyes were sorrowful because it was Jang Keun Suk.

Jang Keun Suk acted for variety of characters that we can say it was three characters for one person such as Young-soo who was abandoned after born because he was born in 6 months after pregnant although he was a son of King Sukjong (a role played by Choi Min-soo), a son of gambler Baek Man-geum (a role played by Lee Moon-sik), Gae-ddong and Baek Dae-gil who became an adult by alone. The development of young man who challenge with spirit by believing his ‘luck’ only in the beginning to become a leader who truly cares about public was great enough to touch the viewers.

The ways of treating two fathers, Sukjong and Baek Man-geum were totally different. He was close to Baek Man-geum as if they are friends forever. His affection to only one family, Baek Man-geum was extraordinary. However, he sent missing eyes towards Sukjong while he was in front of him. He supposed to blame Sukjong who kept silence about throwing him away although he knew that he exists, but there was no anger in his eyes while looking at his real father.
There were sparks fly up when he opposed enemy Lee In-jwa (a role played by Jun Kwang-ryul). He just thought Lee In-jwa as an enemy who killed his father, but was waiting for revenge to bring nation’s peace. Along with Baek Dae-gil’s development, the purpose of punishing Lee In-jwa has changed from revenge to great cause. One of the things that made this flow natural is Jang Keun Suk’s acting skill that was not bad compared to King of historical drama Jun Kwang-ryul. At the time when two people stared each other, it was feeling chill as if two tigers in different age facing each other.

‘Bromance’ with Youngjo who is real brother and became the King was something attracted attention from ‘Jackpot’. As friends sometimes, as brothers sometimes and as King and a retainer sometimes, although their position changed instantly, the thing made viewers not confused is two people’s harmony. In addition, among those great actors, Jang Keun Suk’s control of acting strength was the power of drama ‘Jackpot’. The reason to expect actor Jang Keun Suk’s next, Jang Keun Suk proved this again through ‘Jackpot’. /bestsurplus@osen.co.kr

[Article-2] Jang Keun Suk ‘Hard-Carry’, He Can Even Eat a Live Snake [Thumbs Up Jang Keun Suk (2)]

After being absent from the TV screen for more than two years, Jang Keun Suk returned in the SBS drama ‘Jackport/Royal Gambler’. His passionate acting in the drama exceeded imagination. How did he immerse into the role of Dae-gil? We’ll find out.

In the Mon-Tue SBS historical drama ‘Jackport/Royal Gambler’ (scriptwriter Kwon Soon Kai, PD Nam Gun), Jang Keun Suk leads the 24 episodes drama playing Dae-Gil, the son forgotten by his father the king. There are now only two episodes to go. Through his performance in this drama, Jang Keun Suk has received a lot of praises for his passion and maturity in his acting.

27673964226_d30a6aa7e6_z.jpg

Born as the son of the king but had to be given away, Dae-gil was a man with a lot of luck who survived various life-threatening incidents. When he was a baby, he was shot by an arrow and thrown off a cliff and survived. Due to Baek Man-Geum’s protection, he also escaped the trap set by King Suk-Jong.

After he grew up, Dae-gil also came across similar situations. As Dae-gil’s fate, Jang Keun Suk had to experience the most difficult hardships which were unimaginable. From when he first appeared in the drama, he had to run around and kept getting into trouble, leaving the viewers with a deep impression. Later, he was beaten cruelly by his father’s killer, Lee In-Jwa and had his arms and legs broken. Then he fell off the cliff after being stabbed.
Afterwards, he was sold as a slave to a salt farm. He had to endure beatings wrapped in a woven mat and thrown into a richard simmons hole. He was also buried in mud flats up to his neck and even ate the live crabs ‘cluck cluck cluck’ in the mud flats. Finally, he even ate a live snake due to hunger which shocked everyone. This kind of level is the ‘profession limit’, isn’t it?

These acting are not easy for anyone. For Jang Keun Suk, seems he successfully portrayed the perfect Dae-gil was because he was able to put down everything. He burst out the acting abilities he has been accumulating. During filming for these difficult scenes, Jang Keun Suk would make jokes to relieve the nervousness of the production team, creating a relaxing atmosphere at the film sites. Because of Jang Keun Suk’ hard work, the mud flat scene completed successful amidst a happy atmosphere, the snake eating scene was also completed without mishaps. As the lead actor, of course one would do his best in his acting performance, but to be able to show consideration to everyone at the film site, it has to be due to his fine character.

As to Jang Keun Suk’ passionate acting, the director of Royal Gambler, Nam Gun said: “He really is an amazing actor. Although it was very difficult both mentally and physically for him, but whenever he’s at the film site, no matter when, he’s always serious (with work) and showed sparkles in his eyes. He’s very courteous to the other actors and staff, and observed proper manners. He left a big impression on me.”
